Was in the mood for Chinese cuisine, so stopped in for the first time at Michi Sushi. I was the only person in the restaurant, which was a little weird, but a few people came in for takeout. Had the General Tso Chicken with pork fried rice. Food tasted ok. It wasn't the best or worst I had. Service was almost non-existent. I had to get the sushi chef's attention to get drink refills. Found out that for $1.00 you don't get wonton soup. My husband and daughter had beef with broccoli. It was all broccoli and carrots and very little beef. Rice came with the beef. I had chicken and mixed vegetables. Mostly broccoli and carrots. No Chinese vegetables and very little chicken. I ordered 1small won ton. They didn't include the noodles and duck sauce. Only 3 small packets of soy sauce. The bill was $52.00. If I didn't have $48. left on a gift card I received for my birthday, I wouldn't return. A 3 star is being very generous. This place was a pleasant surprise. Almost unnoticeable given it sits next to Acme. However, it is now one of my favorite local sushi restaurants. The steamed dumplings are the best I've had in some time, sushi is fresh and even the general tsao's chicken my husband ordered was better than most. Less breading than most others. Hands down my favorite sushi place in West Chester. I have been here countless times--averaging 1-2x/month in the last 2 years--and have tried every sushi roll on the Specialty menu. The buy one roll, get one half off deal is unbeatable; there aren't many other sushi places that do that. And if you're going out to eat with your whole family, you can end up saving a lot if each person gets a roll. My favorites are the Eagle roll (if you like cream cheese; this one also comes out warm!); and the Yummy Yummy roll. The shrimp pad thai is also some of the best I've had. They don't overdo it with the sauce and give you a big portion. I'm also a huge noodle person and love the Udon - both the Yaki Udon dish (sauteed) and the Udon noodle soup. For appetizers, I often order the edamame (cooked just right to a great firmness and with the right amount of salt) and/or seaweed salad. I will say the few times I've ordered dessert I have not been that impressed. It seems like the desserts come from a box of frozen desserts that they've left in the freezer for some time and let thaw for a few minutes once the order gets put in. However, the rest of the items on the menu are all great and the service is super fast. Our favorite waitress is Anna - super friendly and always greets us by name and remembers our drinks (since we're such regulars :) ) and John behind the counter is sweet, too. Craving sushi on a Monday night I went to my go-to sushi joint, Michi Sushi. Small place with decent service and delicious, visually appealing signature rolls. Started with the Chicken Satay which was tender and the dipping sauce had a mild peanut flavor which I prefer over a bold peanut flavor. I then ordered 2 Signature rolls - Rainbow roll and Sweetheart roll. I absolutely love the sweet mango in the Sweetheart roll and it never disappoints. I opted for sweet iced tea and water for beverages. I was tempted to order the Exotic Bomba for dessert but I was full! Next time for sure as it has mango gelato - I'm a sucker for mango! OK is everything super amazing? no, but the quality and quantity of the fish in each rushi roll has always been excellent. We specially love the ocean king roll. Crunch salmon with the soft crab is delicious. My mum loves the foxy lady roll and husband loves the sashimi. I'm usually not a sushi fan. I don't particularly care for rice and being a vegetarian means a selection limited to vegetable rolls at most sushi joints. Michi Sushi might be responsible for changing my mind. The service is excellent. Prompt, friendly and efficient with the staff going the extra mile for their customers. I arrived 30 minutes before my party and the host immediately brought out an ice water for me while I waited. No questions, just courtesy. I don't think I've ever been to a place where they've done that. It's a BYO, so I brought a bottle of white wine which they were more than happy to put on ice for us. The Thai Iced Tea is phenomenal - milky sweetness courtesy of condensed milk and redolent of warm spices. Starbucks never made anything so good or so refreshing. I ordered the avocado-peanut rolls and the avocado-cucumber rolls and enjoyed both tremendously. The creamy, unctuous avocado plays so well with the nostril-stinging wasabi. I'm not a big soy sauce girl and wanted a side of Sriricha to dip my rolls in, but I figured that would probably be an epic gastronomic faux pas. Anyone out there care to comment? Typically at places with prices like theirs, it can be not so fresh. I'd recommend Michi any time. It's not fancy, but the sushi is worth it. We had sashimi boxes--fish was nice and fresh (yellowtail, tuna, salmon.) Lovely. The "shumai" were kind of odd to me--but I'm used to them being steamed, not fried. The shrimp tempura that came with the box along with a broccoli was only so-so. Kind of oily but the salad was crisp-fresh and the grated carrot-sesame dressing very good. The kids had tuna rolls and chicken katsu. The katsu looked only so-so and there wasn't enough sauce in the small cup. However, fresh fish and the lunch special was an incredible value. You'd pay more for a lame hoagie and Big Gulp, so how can you go wrong? I only wish it were closer. read more
