I've been to this Michaels multiple times. Always have what I need. Usually my last store to go to if any other craft store around don't have it. Worst cashier customer service ever! I've been going to this Michaels for years only because it's convenient. Their customer service has never been a priority, that said there are people who work there who genuinely try to help. Framing department always very helpful. So this is my first review after 10 years of shopping there and typically getting so so service. I was checking out tonight at 7:10 ( yes I looked at my watch because I knew I would be writing a review). My cashier, young black girl, jeans, gray hoodie with writing said hello in response to me saying it first. (I'll give her that) I was looking on my app for the 40% off coupon and was having a hard time finding it because I didn't have my glasses. Finally I said can you help find the coupon I don't have my glasses. Totally annoyed that I even asked for help, she said click on the 20% coupon and the rest will come up. I clicked on it and the rest didn't come up. So I'm squinting and looking at the app trying to find it, no help from her then after 3 mins she pulls a coupon from under the desk and scans it to give me the discount. ARE YOU KIDDING?! Naturally, she didn't say anything when I was leaving, I guess she figured she did me a favor so I owe her a thank you. First of all why all the attitude, I just came in to make a purchase which keeps your company in business so you have a job. Second, this type of service is a reflection on management and higher. The girl ringing me should be stocking shelves...in the back and not be greeting people. I mean it's the holidays, is this as good as you can get?? Thank God for our new Hobby Lobby. It's a bit further down the street but if shopping at this Michaels is this painful it's worth the extra time and gas. This is the store I go to primarily for non "art" crafts; knitting, beading, scrapbooking, ect. They have quality cheap yarn, and as a knitter, that's always nice. Whenever I'm pursuing a new craft, I come here for cheap supplies first before diving full on. Their paint selection isn't bad at all either, and I do come here for paint when can't get to Pearl or Sam Flax. I've never had any problems with the staff or manager; this is not a store I come to for help on anything, so my only interaction with store clerks has been at the register. From the previous review and my own experience, I wouldn't suggest coming here with questions about specific crafts; just come for the good prices and the basics of what you need. read more

I love this place. I get great coupons through mail, text, and can even pull up coupons last min while standing in line for discounts.

This is not my store of preference. The employees are marginal. But I have a friend that refuses to shop hobby lobby and she asked for a gift card from Michaels. But get this... cash only for a gift card? The most ignorant thing I have ever heard. Despite her wishes, she's getting a different gift. I don't carry large amounts of cash for safety reasons and will not run to an atm because Michaels won't take a card for a purchase of a gift card... which is a purchase... just like the stuff I left at the register would have been. It's not bad. But it's kind of crowded and cluttered, and a little chaotic. Like others have said - this isn't the highest quality stuff, but it's GREAT if you're just learning or doing some generic crafting. But I buy low cost yarn, needles, and such for my brand new attempts at knitting and crocheting. If you buy boutique stuff for practicing, you'll blow through some serious money. read more

I've gone to this Michael's my whole life, and have always found it to be a fairly decent go-to. They have decent prices on a variety of things, but seem to focus mainly on the framing department. I have a small jewelry business and when I run out of something in the middle of a project, I'm a little wary of attempting to get replacements since the stock rotates extremely often and I have trouble finding the same items more than once. The staff is friendly, but not always knowledgeable, so my usual tactic is just to wander the aisles and learn a little bit about each item either from labels or Googling. read more

This place has been the answer to many a science project for kids in the Northlake area. While I have not had to seek assistance from the staff, they do seem a little "less than friendly" for the most part. They probably have what you need to complete that craft of project but their prices are gonna leave a bruise on your wallet. read more

Laquinta certainly knows how to scar the good name of Michaels. I went to pick up an online order today. One girl took my name and disappeared into the back for 15 mins. Then I gave my name to Laquinta. I told her that I had an appointment and I couldn't stay, that I could come back tomorrow. Her response was "you can't wait 5 mins?" Really? Absolutely the WORST customer service at this store, consistently. Well, at least they are consistent! Every single time I have come here, I have encountered rude employees, or no help. Last time I went there, there was no help. I finally had to get in line and ask a cashier. When I checked out, the same cashier asked,"did you find everything OK?" I told her "no, I didn't. I didn't get half the things I wanted because I had no one to guide me as to where they were." No apology, nothing, just crickets. She checked my one purchase out silently, and told me to have a good day. What's even more incredulous is that you have to pay for gift cards with cash! If I could give this place minus stars I would. These days customer service is everything. Michaels has always been lacking, but I believe in supporting local businesses which is why I went here. Has anybody run into this problem before? Because Michael's has a lock box on their restroom doors, I had a problem today because I had to search for a sales associate who in turn told me the security code to use restroom. Too late! I question is it legal to lock restroom doors? They took down Pay Toilets a while ago, so why the lock box. I was so disappointed and embarrassed, I left my cart with $50.00 of items in the store. Normally I always enjoy going to Michaels... but today I'm really pissed!... so I got the email with coupons for several items they have on sale in store & on line. So I go to the store and spend damm near an hour trying to make sure I have the correct items with the correct brand names that are on sale. I get to the register & there is this one angry bitter as hell female employee who always ack as if you are taking her money out of her damm pockets. I have to go back & forth with her and show her what was sent out from Michaels... I didn't make up the damm coupons! It is not my fault that the stuff in the system is not matching up with what the coupons says. I'm out here in the rain to get the sale it's the last day & you want to have an attitude like this is coming out your pockets! Michaels is a happy place with crafts and a safe place for creativity... why is this Un-happy individual working in this happy space mean mugging people? Stay home or work someplace else & leave the happy place! PLEASE!!! When ever she is at the register I will let the entire world go ahead of me so I don't have to deal with her Un-happy negative Ora! I have shopped at Michaels for years and years, but I'm just not sure I can do it any longer. Lines to pay are absurd. They now have an employee go through the line, ring customers, and give the customer a total card which can be presented to the cashier who takes payment and bags items. The customer still has to WAIT in line to get to that cashier and still has to endure the sale pitch on their "membership" or some such B.S. Pros 1. The very limited staff seems friendlier and more willing to please than ever. 2. Unlike, for instance, Walmart, the photo frames are orderly rather being dumped together in a broken heap that cries out "Trash - Do Not Buy!" 3. Micheals' sells pre-fab mats so a customer may frame her own art without indulging in custom framing. 4. Micheals has a number of scroll cut letters and words useful for personalizing various items. 5. Micheals has a variety of arts and craft supplies. Cons 1. Michaels is too cheap to hire sufficient employees. 2. The lines are ridiculous due to lack of cashiers. 3. The frame and matting section seems to offer less and less in the way of choice coupled with higher and higher prices. 4. I purchased a pre-fab "designer" 16 x 20 mat and under no circumstances will it fit a 16x 20 frame. I've already mutilated some materials attempting to cut a mat and purchased this one because I wanted a PRE-FAB mat. 5. Micheals has rearranged and some of the scroll cut letters and words are located in three different sections of the store making shopping time-consuming and frustrating. But don't think that means more variety. No, the scroll cut words, wherever found in the store, are limited to the same things over and over again. There was not a "Thank you" to be found anywhere in the store. Other items are similarly, and illogically, dispersed. 6. Everything in the store appears to be made in China - sweatshop capital of the world, but consumers see none of that savings. Michaels charges "Proudly Made in America" prices for Chinese goods in a store operated by a skeleton crew while customers wait in Stalin-era Soviet type lines. Do I keep shopping there? Or do I give up on Michaels? At this point, I just do not know. read more

I was content with their service for a few years until I purchased 2 frames. The top of the packaging showed a framed piece of art with a mat around it. Well if you place a mat in it, it is too thick for the frame to "close" (fit). I brought it back and was told that since it had been opened they would not take it back. I showed them the illustration and that nothing on the packaging stated that only a literally paper-thin piece of art would fit to no avail. The manager (?) was quite rude. I definately agree with James W. I do not know if we are talking about the same manager or not but when i use to go, there was a lady in there with red hair that was the store manager. She is very rude and short-tempered. She has a terrible attitude, I've worked in corporate customer service for 6 years and I do not know how she has managed to become store manager, when she is highly insensitive to customers.(She must know somebody very well within the company) LIKE THE STORE BUT HATE THE MANAGER. read more
