Terrible service after receiving very poor framing job. When I asked the young lady about the poor framing job she said " that's the best we do" and " sorry you don't like the work, it doesn't look too good to me either". She was rude, not well trained and had no business being in contact with customers. Michael's should stay in the fake flower business and leave the framing to to custom framing shops or Hobby Lobby. I'd like to leave a rating of no stars but I can't. I will take my framed item over to Hobby Lobby and have them clean it up. This is where I should have gone in the beginning. Ordered online for in store pickup and received multiple confirmations it was ready. When I got there, they couldn't find it. I stood around for 30 minutes while they "looked for it." No one attempted to update me for the last 20 minutes of that. Finally I just told them to cancel it so I could leave because they didn't have any left in stock at the store. I understand being short staffed. I don't understand staff being rude. I called to see if there was someone in the framing department and the guy answering the phone said "yes" and as I was asking a second question he hung up on me. I called because when I went the other day there was a sign the framing department was closed, come back later. When later? Twenty minutes, two days, next week? If you bother to make a sign please give useful information to your customers. What a shock going into Michaels on Saturday, Oct 29. The store was filled with boxes of merchandise stacked up, but not open. No sales people I could see anywhere on the floor, for assistance. The checkout is now only self serve with no assistance or instructions. Not the Michaels I love and spent soooo much $$$ at. Not going back for a very long time if ever.. Troy store is all automated self check out, 1 lane open for human contact, no direction for a customer, lady tells the guy that cut in line ahead of me its all self check out, do we get a discount for doing their jobs? Look, I want to like this store. From the exterior, everything about Michaels in Troy (Royal Troy? Troyal Oak?) looks promising. You have a handsome façade separated by a pretty large parking lot with ample space in case you need to careen around the ruthless, monolithic wall of cars that shows up during the holiday season. I feel like someone infiltrating the craft world slipping in here, since I am by no means a master of Etsy or Pinterest projects. Sometimes I just want a sticker to smack on a pumpkin or a bit of ribbon to hot glue to a stocking. Hot glue or duct tape can make just about any craft project happen if you're willing to be stuck to that project and spend a little sweat, skin and tears on it. (Blood is a bad sign.) But even my mother, a consummate crafter, finds this store out of her tolerance zone. Let me explain the reason why. You'll need to wait a few minutes. Like... Thirty. You can probably read that one Russian novel or classic you said you'd finish by the year's end, and keep putting aside, in the time it takes for the one cashier to process the transaction of the person three ahead of you. Did you think you'd get out of here before dawn? Ha ha, what did you think, this was a Party City. Oh no. Bow down before the craft gods and suffer, mortal. The one person who gives you hope in the desert of your exile from home as he approaches the register isn't there to open it, he's there to collect a box. He grabs a flyer or a price gun and wanders off like he hasn't noticed half the population of Ferndale is on the brink of expiration from hunger. Why do they surround the line in slime and candy? Because they know the power of suggestive purchasing. You'll be desperate to hold on to eat halfway through your stay. Please make sure to eat that heavy five course meal you've been putting off on any regular day. Holiday season? Go have that dinner at Zehnder's, really. You'll be glad you have the carbs and protein to digest, because you'll leave about the time it's done. The stock may be nice, the prices are too high without coupons unless on sale (and like Joann, Michaels /always/ has sales), and the assortment reasonably fair. It doesn't make a lick of good if you can't process five people with two items in less than 38 minutes 22 seconds. No, I didn't have the stopwatch on my phone going at all. Except I absolutely did. One cashier. One Saturday early evening. There is no just cause for this. At this point I could probably price scan my own items and why they don't have self-scan is beyond me. Spare me the agony of this. Even pick up isn't a good idea because I have to go through the one bored wage slave processing us. Thanks no, I'll order off Amazon. If you can put up with this, know that they're frequently picked over and especially badly in the yarn area. I go in, and find mismatched balls all over the place. Skip Target and come here for after Christmas deals! The only bad thing here is that they don't have a price check system. Christmas items were all discounted at different percentages. It ranged from 50-80%. I bought an $8.00 box of Christmas cards for $2.40. I also got, among other things a Wilton Linzer cookie cutter set for $2.49. It was a better deal than the cookie cutter set I bought at 50% from Crate and Barrel. The store can be a bit chaotic most of the time. there is so much stuff to look at, that I sometimes forget why I went into the store in the first place. Oh yeah, tissue paper. Also one of your staff members was stubborn with me and wouldn't look for another item that I wanted to see, and I know these items vary in sizes, I buy loads of them. Wandered in here this weekend with an art piece I had purchased and a goal: find a frame for it and perhaps get some help with it. I went to the custom framing department and said I didn't want custom framing, just some help. The lady was friendly but basically was like "the 8x10 frames are over there, just let me know when you have one and I'll help you put the picture in it." Another employee however, took about 10-15 minutes to help me look for frames and tell me which colors would work with the frame, which was super helpful. I didn't do "regular" checkout (I checked out at Custom Framing) so I can't attest to the line policy. But the customer service was great. read more

This store looks like an arts and crafts wonderland upon entering, but it has some pretty awful customer service. Employees have glared at me, RUN AWAY from me, and acted really bored/rude in general. Also, they will refuse to honor competitor's prices, despite the clearly posted sign saying that they do. I pointed this out to the cashier once but didn't get any response. If you go, make sure you look on the Michael's website for a coupon beforehand because the full-priced items are just not worth it. But then, the employees never have the prices listed correctly on items, so l will often find out at the register that a supposedly full-priced item is actually on sale and therefore my coupon cannot be used. Along with your receipt, you will often receive a coupon at the register for a future purchase. read more

Yikes!! Worst customer service. Starting at 8:40 and every five minutes, the huffy manager got on the PA to announce they were closing and to bring items to the check out. She said it so fast, it was hard to make out the spiel, but it basically was rude. Only one lane open, very long lines. Aren't retailers trying to get people to $pend money??? Why the rush? Poor management, certainly. I can understand one general announcement 10 or 15 minutes before closing, but every 5 minutes?? Nervewracking. Store is MESSY, product quality is below average, and selection is limited for most items. It's like they're trying to cover every possible base of crafting, and it's just a hodgepodge of a mess. Try not to get ripped off on coupons. They'll have a 25% yarn coupon that says even good for sale items. Then they put all their yarn on clearance, even though they're not actually getting rid of it. I will start with, I love shopping at Michael's. When they are stocked, it's always a good selection. Unfortunately this location is kind of the worst. I have never been here when there isn't at least a 5 minute wait in line. The lines are always disorganized so there are people cutting in line, and the employees (sometimes managers) don't help that situation by yelling at the customers to form lines. There have been plenty of times where I have needed certain colors of embroidery floss and it takes about 3 weeks for a restock. I work retail and know that the customer service is very poor at this location. No one ever says hello, asks if I need help, or acknowledges you when you have been waiting a long time. read more

Slam dunk if you're a pro crafter or just trying to put something together like you saw on Pinterest (like me)! The store seems to be laid out well, occasionally stock is low but it never seems for long. Reasonably priced & there's almost always a coupon available which is nice. They also have a good return policy which I appreciate, because I'm the person who will buy 10 of something when I only needed 5. Hey, there's nothing worse than running out of something mid-project! The reason I went with 3 stars, other than they don't offer 3.5, is the staff & lines you always face. Seems it doesn't matter what time it what day there's never enough registers open. read more

Oh the love/hate relationship I have with this store. Like a bad relationship I just can't quit. There are numerous issues that many others have spoken to. But for me, the fact you can never find an employee to help you on the floor is infuriating. Though I remember the one time I did- it was like a unicorn sighting. However, the poor girl did not know much as it was her first day and she looked as if she had been thrown to the wolves. She called a manger over to clarify where to look for the item I was seeking (it was not where website said it would be.) I tell you, the manager was so rude to her that it made me feel terrible that my search for a resin mold brought that upon her. She was embarrassed, I felt awful, it was really uncomfortable to watch. I told the manager that there was no need to be so salty with her and reminded him it was her first day. That man rolled his so hard I swear it had to hurt. He said nothing and promptly marched away like a Clydesdale. So yeah, I guess no help is better than that help? At first I was feeling discouraged about finding some supplies that seemed to be out is stock until I ran into an employee named Mary. She was absolutely wonderful! She pulled apart numerous boxes in search for me only to find out she was actually off the clock and heading home for the weekend! Do not get artwork framed here. It is about the same price as going to a dedicated framing place. I had two items framed and the artwork does not lay flat in the frame. The coupons are meaningless - they just increase the base price so that the cost with coupon is at least in the ballpark of what it should be. read more

Got yelled at for testing markers by an extremely rude employee that threatened to throw me out of the store if I didn't go up and buy them before using them, AFTER asking me if I was testing them. Why do you think I'm testing the markers in the first place?! I was appalled. I left to go buy them somewhere else. Don't give them your money. Go to BLIK on Woodward or Joann instead, they should have what you're looking for in terms of art supplies and crafting. It's not worth putting up with employees like that, and judging by other reviews, it's a real problem that needs to be taken care of. I will not be going back. read more

I am appalled at the behavior I witnessed today at Michaels. An employee by the name of Eric got so verbally violent with a customer I became fearful and left. The customer was questioning her coupon with her cashier (both customer and cashier were pleasant and joking around) when Eric who was ringing up another shopper interrupted their conversation telling the cashier she was doing everything wrong and telling the customer to "shut up, I'm dealing with the cashier right now" both cashier and customer became silent and tried to hurry thru the transaction. Eric again stopped them telling her she was wrong and when the customer asked another question, was again told to "shut up"There was no reason for him to jump into the conversation. The customer was very shaken and asked for the cashier to quickly finish her transaction as she was now embarrassed and uncomfortable being treated so poorly by Eric. At that time I put my purchase down and followed her out. I will be following up with corporate and will not shop here again. read more
