I got all my questions asked and more :) Being a knitting store, the price of items are a bit spendy, but that's also because the quality is great. The store sources beautiful yarns which comes at a cost, but you know what you're getting is great. They are also able to purchase print your patterns if they are on Ravelry (maybe other sites as well). I found Michigan Fine Yarns when looking for a place to supplement the soon to be closed Joann's. Someone recommended this on an online knitting forum and I took a risk. They have a very easy to navigate website with a ton of offerings in any color, thickness, weight, and material you could image. The only downside to being an online customer is that we cannot feel the yarn. However, I received a call once when purchasing the pink yarn where they inquired as to what I was making because there were two lots with different dyes used so there was a slight color difference. I was taken aback by how thorough their customer service was and how thoughtful that interaction was! I've attached photos of some projects that I have completed (I'm new to knitting so any mistakes are truly my own and not due to the yarn). I will continue to purchase from Michigan Fine Yarns as they have a range of yarns that can fit any budget. I like to work with the 100% Peruvian wool from Cascade yarns the most and my local yarn stores don't have them in the quantity that I need. I cannot wait until life brings me to Ann Arbor and I can visit this store in person! I might feel like I've died and gone to Heaven.

For the prices they charge and low-quality / discontinued fabric, this is far from an upscale fabric / upholstery atelier. The customer service is worse than the product and presentation. Upon walking in, no one greeted me, despite the fact that two employees were chatting at the central desk near the door. I found my way to the back area with the upholstery fabric. I wandered around a bit looking at the myriad sample decks. Because there was no information or pricing on anything, I returned and waited for the woman at the central desk to finish her chit-chat before acknowledging me. She apologized for being short-staffed (so probably not a good time to stand around and chat.) Upon arriving back in the upholstery fabric area, I began explaining my project and said I was seeking fabric in the $30-40/yard range. She abruptly cut me off and said sharply, "Don't have it." I explained I was able to find quite a few options online and know they exist in this range elsewhere and she snapped, "Then go online." I continued the conversation forward by describing the overall dimensions of the cushion seating bench and she again cut me off with a sharp-toned "How many yards?" as if I didn't know how to plan a cushion (or add and multiply). I bluntly replied, "Don't be short with me. I've been sewing for 30 years." I never understand why so-called "experts" (sales clerks) feel the need to be defensive and condescending rather than patient and helpful. There are a million questions she SHOULD have asked before this last one: desired quality, use, color, pattern, touch, durability, etc. Once we discussed details a bit more, she said, "All we have in the $30 range is cotton." If you had something in that range, why didn't you say so in the first place . . . other than trying to steer me into a higher price? When she showed me the swatches, I asked for the specific pricing as nothing was labeled. She replied with, "Can you imagine if we had to price everything individually?" At the end of my rope with her, I simply stated, "Yeah, you would actually have to work." I then turned and walked out. Too bad she couldn't have been attentive, pleasant, and helpful. Had she treated me with respect and courtesy, she would have made nice sale and new customer. Instead, she earned the store yet another 1-star rating on Yelp.

It ranged from 50-80%. I bought an $8.00 box of Christmas cards for $2.40. I also got, among other things a Wilton Linzer cookie cutter set for $2.49. It was a better deal than the cookie cutter set I bought at 50% from Crate and Barrel. The store can be a bit chaotic most of the time. there is so much stuff to look at, that I sometimes forget why I went into the store in the first place. Oh yeah, tissue paper. They have it, and I bet you can get red and green on sale right now.
