I've visited a few times, this is a great place to come for apparel fabrics or any upholstery needs. I am usually a quilter but learning to branch out. I've used multiple apparel fabrics from here for purses and tote bags. They have many different color and pattern options. The 2 employees I see every time are very nice and offer to move and carry the heavy rolls for you to the cutting counter. They are also available to consult with you on the fabrics best fit to the project you're looking to do. Apparel fabrics $5/yard and upholstery $10/yard. Those are unbeatable prices for both small and large projects. It's definitely worth a stop if you're nearby, even if you're not the target sewing demographic! read more

Today I found several colors and types of silk. SILK!! $4.99 / a yd! Always a nice selection of upholstery fabrics. As others have said, buy it when you see it because it most likely won't be there later. And buy enough when you do because it can't be reordered. Wow! I was pleasantly surprised by this place! From the outside it has a very low-budget DIY feel, and I guess my expectations were low regarding the type of fabric they'd have. I expected a lot of budget stretch knits. Yes, they have those -- but they have so much more! There were high quality cottons, chiffons, sequins, leather, patterned upholstery fabric, and more! It was all on large rolls to dig through, which is totally my jam. If you're going there looking for a particular shade to match something you already have, maybe not the best spot to do that. But if you need a pillow covered, or some curtains, or you're making a quick clothing project (like me) and you're open to ideas, for sure check them out! There were some stacks of vintage plaid for men's western shirts that I really had to hold back from buying. But oh, I will be back. I also want to shout out the staff. They were super friendly, and not in a putting-on-airs kinda way, but in a way like they genuinely enjoy where they work kinda way. Now and then I get ambitious, relearning the basics for a Christmas project or an ill-fated costume we shall not speak of ever again. Thus, I appreciate locations that sell craft or upholstery-worthy fabric that doesn't cost $14.99/meter (... Fine, yard, you and your confusing imperial system). I do not need supple suedes or lovely, delicate crepes that will end up a ball of knotted thread at the bottom of my sewing machine as I try in vain to disentangle the bobbin and the needle. Truly it's not always that bad, but deal with an expensive material as a neophyte sewer, and it swiftly becomes disenchanting. That's where Discount Fabric Outlet is a masterstroke of brilliance. For the advanced crafter, here you can supply your closet with all manner of fabrics from broadcloth to fake cur in reasonable amounts for an unbeatable price. Under four bucks a yard, no coupons needed? Done. For the newbie, like me, you can buy yards of cloth for that curtain or project at a completely reasonable price, and know you aren't ending up with a mediocre product. The caveat of course: you don't know what you're going to get. The stock changes regularly and can be entirely out of season. Come in the dead of winter for that draping linen or a soft turquoise roll patterned in butterflies! Mid-June, there's Santa. If you can live with the unpredictability, you can stock up for a season and score some amazing deals. I do mean amazing. My very much sewing savvy sister-in-law snagged gorgeous slick material we were pricing at $20-40/yard at fancy stores and it's every bit as luxe and lovely. Expect a hodgepodge, and better yet, expect that you will need to do a bit of digging to find your treasures. The tables are well laid out to make it possible for you to search by colour and type. Staff knows their work. You tell them what you want and you're off to the races. "Red stuff," I can say, and they nod and find me the right red stuff. My sister in law says something fancy about a light denim-blue cotton-blend with a stretch and they nod knowingly and find the one bolt that matches. I've thought coming in here before you decide on a project is often more fun than having a specific idea in mind. You can find your inspiration among the sartorial promise, if you can be patient and do some prospecting. The current location near the old House of Optical building has plenty of parking, good light, and easy access. Ironically House of Optical moved into the old Discount Fabric freestanding shop just up 14 Mile, so how is that for fun? Come on in. I don't want to share this secret because it's my happy fabric haunt, but now you can get in on the lovely deals. read more

Went there today with my friend, I personally didn't find anything I needed but the color I needed isn't the most normal color it's not their fault my friend got fabric and the guy who cut it was awesome, he joked around with us and was very friendly! All fabric is literally 2.99 a yard and you have to purchase min of one yard, which makes sense it's 3 dollars for a yard! They have some nice colored silk right now and fabric that Jerseys are made of which I have never seen inside a fabric store before! A lot of drape options, so if I ever needed to buy drapes I would more than likely go there especially since it would only cost 2.99, it's a good deal! read more

Went in here the other day, and have to say the staff is so friendly and welcoming. You can tell it's a nice family owned business. They have a large variety of fabrics and get new deliveries periodically so even if you've been before check them out again. My new obsession! I love this place!! So many beautiful fabrics and all at 2.99!! I stopped in quickly on my lunch break and picked up 9 yards of different unique fabrics! I'm making a dress now!! The wonderful couple were so very helpful and friendly!! Even though I loaded up the cutting table with 9 rolls they quickly cut the fabric beautifully! I just went to the discount fabric store because I am a sewing beginner and I didnt want to spend a lot of money on fabric. Everything in the store is 2.99 no matter what. I was expecting something more like the fabric stores of my childhood with bolts and bolts of fabric amongst notions, but this place is completely unique. It is a large room with tables of fabric rolls piled on top, and two tables for fabric cutting. That's it! What this place lacks in ambiance, the owners? staff? make up for in service. I went with my daughter who is making clothes for a school fashion show, and neither one of us know anything about sewing. They made suggestions about which fabrics would be a good choice for her, told us what not to do, and helped us find the colors she wanted. They charge $2.99 per yard, and if there isn't a full yard on the roll its even less. She has a lot of practice fabric in case of mistakes, and it cost 1/4 of what we spent at Joann's.
