STAFF IS NOT EASILY HELPFUL. Nor are they remorseful they misplaced my online order and held me on the phone for 30 minutes. This is my second call - first one also resorted to not finding my order. They were easy to give up when they couldn't find it in the back, and said that UPS sometimes signs deliveries with the store manager's name but do not actually deliver items. Mind you, the OnTrac (yes, diff courier) tracking info said it was delivered on 10/7, and Michael's store app finally marked it delivered on 10/8. A pack of 6 30 x 40 canvases isn't easy to misplace, nor hard to find. The store associate could only say "I don't know" when I asked her how she knew it wasn't delivered, and how her manager knows it will be delivered in the next days if the tracking information itself says it was already delivered. Finally I asked her to find out. Next voice I heard was the manager. He also did not apologize I've been put on hold multiple times. Finally after a number of attempts, he found my order - it was in a different stack in the back. I asked if he can bring it out - I was parked at curbside pick-up. He said it might take a while as they have a long line, then hung up. Again, no apologies. Nothing. He came out with another associate - a young male. He was the only pleasant person I interacted with at this store. The manager irritatingly explained that my order came in 2 boxes when I told the young man I only ordered one package. Again, no apologies. Not a goodbye as he took another call. Although he could've spent 20 seconds and said "I'm sorry we thought we didn't have your order. I hope the items are okay. Please let me know if there's anything we can help you with in the future." Nothing - he placed the box in my car and walked away. The young man at least greeted and said to have a nice evening. If the manager is upset, he should be upset at his own level of customer service, and of his associates. Picking up the phone and responding is not customer service. Providing meaningful answers and support is customer service. The gross lack of customer service tells me associates don't get proper training, mentorship, nor example from the very top. read more

This store has turned to complete self checkout! What a pain. There was nobody on the floor to help me find my items. When I finally went to checkout, the young girl told me they've transitioned to complete self checkout. I asked her if I, the customer would receive a discount with all the savings Michael's is getting by not having to pay for employees at the register. She said 'no, that the employees previously at the registers would now be free to help the people on the floor'. I said "oh yeah? There was not a single employee on the floor to help me find an item." I said "when you guys start losing customers you will know why. It's older people who shop at Michael's and they're not gonna want to self scan." Never going back read more

Basic stuff, sales are so so. However I went to the self check out with tons of stuff, had an issue with and experienced technical difficulties. However rather than be helpful the person up front started to hover and become suspicious of me. She just kept staring at me, no one else mind you. I should also mention I'm heavily tattooed, pierced, ALT type of person. Which surprise lots of us are artists! However she made me feel like I was a criminal because I asked to remove something that was mistagged on the sales floor and decided I didn't want to spend that much money for it mind you I was already spending $100+. That's ok we have the worlds largest Joann's nearby and I'll just shop online which I would prefer to shop in a store that benefits my community but in my case my community store doesn't apparently want my support. Alissa helped me over the counter, and Josh is the one that did the actual stretching and framing, everything from when I dropped off my paintings to when they were ready was excellent. Have you ever tried to find a sales associate here? Let me tell you, it's harder than finding water in a desert. The last few times I have been here I have not been able to find anyone. I came here looking for a pocket calendar and it was a bit difficult to find, so I just gave up and got some baking supplies instead. But then lo-and-behold, while I was in the checkout line, I saw exactly what I was looking for! Unfortunately, they didn't have much selection, so I ended up getting a dopey design of crazy barn animals. My mother asked me why later why I didn't go to Office Depot to look for calendars, duh. Do not trust their stock quantity count! Online it said they had a certain item at their Torrance location, ready for pick up within 2 hours. I drove from Culver City to Torrance just to find out they don't have it, that their site 'estimates' their count, something that is not disclosed online, especially given it stated that the item was ready for pick up in two hours (other stores noted out of stock, hence why I drove to Torrance). They had the same item in a smaller quantity, but refused to make an exception to combine the smaller quantities and sell for the price of the larger quantity that they were out of after I drove over 15 miles. Waste of my time and gas. Seems to perhaps be some sort of switch and bate going on, as well. I'm not happy and won't be patronizing Michael's again. I still there for a bit looking lost... Still was not asked if I needed help with something... Decided to try my luck on my own but gave up after a minute. Went out empty-handed. [Review #57] I needed a styrofoam cone to create a snowball tower for my daughter's upcoming birthday party, & some pretty ribbon (to be used as a necklace) for the snowflake pendants. Apparently they were having their Memorial Day weekend sale... I was overwhelmed by the amount of tchotchkes, especially in the arts & crafts sections. I rarely put out review. And only when I'm either super impressed or annoyed. I had to fall in line twice! I fell in line first to pay for an item and pick up one hopefully. Told me I should go to this particular kiosk because there's another line for pick up. I told them I I'm buying an item- Ignored me and directed me still. So I go to the online pick up and they ended up telling me you have to fall in line AGAIN. Ridiculous. I only wanted one item- won't even take a minute. Always check your receipt when you purchase something at this store. In two occasions I had to go back because the items I bought were on sale and they charged me regular price. I like this store but because of the long lines and not many employees around to help customers with questions, I try to avoid it. Plus, they prices don't ring up right. It's a cool place though it is hard to find things and the only good customer service is at the register. Locating a rep on the floor is quite difficult and the ones you do find can't answer your questions or are too irritated to. They have pretty good coupons though. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GET ANY CUSTOM FRAMING DONE AT THIS STORE. We had one of the 70% Loyalty discount coupon for custom framing. We had my daughters college softball jersey that needed to be mounted. After about a 20 min discussion of choosing matte colors and frames and got excited the man "punched" in the numbers, rotated the computer screen, and what I saw was utterly shocking. Our total price was $972! To which I said "but we have the coupon", he said, "that price is with the discount". When I looked at the computer he punched in a price of $3,285.00 as his starting price. I literally came unglued and said, "with out a coupon you would gave charged me $3,285.00 to mount a medium size girls softball Jersey?!?!? He calmly said, "yes, it's a lot of labor". Walked in to Michaels last minute to purchase some yarn for my sons school project. Asked for some help was told my an older lady by the name of Cynthia that she could not help me because they were short staffed. I informed her that I was okay with waiting... really needed help ...she walks away and tells me you'll be waiting for a while and I don't know if I'll get to you ...as she rolls her eyes. I had to keep myself calm as I was with my 5 and 13 year old. A nice older lady ( Custumer) gladly helped me. They rearranged the store! This is my favorite Michael's because it's closest to my home, but I don't really care for how they have rearranged the store. I usually visit and purchase items to make jewelry pieces, but they've moved it from the right side to the left, right in front of the checkout line! The entire store seems so incredibly crowded, which annoys me because one person can and will block an entire aisle so you can not pass and have to go all the way around to another aisle. They say to find a good restaurant in a foreign place, go where all the locals go. Michaels is where all the Crafty locals go, so I had to check it out. This stuff makes me feel guilty that I don't have an artistic hobby. I went in for crayons, CRAYONS for the love of Pete. I felt a little embarrassed, as if I was buying bladder control products. Thankfully no one in line at the register asked me, "So do you crochet, knit, scrapbook.... water color... anything productive?!" No, I scratch my belly and watch TV with my mouth hanging open. Are you happy now? Truly, Michaels is like a place that sells atoms--you can build anything you want with them. From a ship in a bottle to a sweatshirt with sparkly... thingies, it's all here. Until about 10 years ago, I made my living as a fine artist/art photographer/art dealer/gallery owner. Then......long story short....I quit. Anyone who says career artists can't quit, just come talk to me, haha. Or, on second thought, maybe they all were right.....because suddenly I find myself jumping back into the biz. I got a killer idea, that's why. It's too good to resist. If I told you what it is I would have to kill you. Anyways, I dug through some of my stored inventory for a potentially big gig I got coming up this week. And, as I expected, some of my lacquer frames were nicked from being manhandled at my last show in Chi. Michael's to the rescue! Haha it's my fave junky craft store. Or crafty junk shop. Whatev, I found the perfect little bitty jar of enamel to touch up those frames. For $1.39. And dammit, Michael's lures me to buy more stuff by bombarding me with ideas for paintings as I wander the store. I ended up with spools of ribbon and other crap like stick-on letters, with which to make a collage. Then of course I had to buy 4 stretched canvases. At least they were on sale, haha. Michael's assortment of junque is downright inspirational, moreso than a classy art supply store, and I am not the first artist to say so. I had an artist friend who taught art to grade-schoolers, and she came up with ideas for projects within 10 minutes of roaming her local Michael's back East. I've not had good experiences with Michael's frame shops, though. They know less than I do about every aspect of framing, every time. That makes me nervous. Four stars for trashy inspiration. I went to this store and found the item I needed right away and got in line to pay. There was only one cashier that was tied up dealing with a lengthy return. There was a guy directing customers in line to pay by credit card only while using the self checkout. He asked each customer how they planned on paying, cash or card. I wanted to pay cash which is a much quicker transaction than watching many confused customers trying to figure out how to use the self checkout. As he lead 6 other customers behind me to the machines he had to show then how to use the self checkout, I'm continuing to wait with cash in hand. Terrible customer service so I set my item on their counter and left the store. Hope that guy realizes he's being replaced by a machine to cut corporate costs. I thought that self checkout meant you do it yourself without help or you go get in the line to see the cashier. I will never be back to Michael's Stores. read more

This is the first craft store I frequented when I first discovered my crafty side which means it will always be near and dear to my heart. I have, however, expanded my craft resources so this no longer is my go to when I choose to be creative with crafts. The size of this location is pretty large compared to others Michaels I've visited. It carries specialty paper I use for scrapbooking and bookmarks on clearance and sale. They offer a bit of a different variety than Joann at Del Amo Mall, though their ribbon selection is limited. Michaels used to send me all kinds of coupons all the time but they haven't been for years which I find odd because I'm a member of their loyalty program. Maybe I haven't visited them enough to "earn" coupons. But I take offense to that because Joann sends me all kinds of coupons no matter how (in)frequently I visit them. Visiting the Michaels website will normally yield at least one coupon without having to provide your email address. I will still visit here when necessary. I've always loved crafts and grew up going to Michaels - in Orange County. When moved to LA I went to the location on Rosecrans. This is the cleanest, neatest Michaels I have ever been to! It's so nicely organized. It is so different from any other location I have been to. I thought they were all just messy but this one is a gem! Clean, organized and friendly staff. Michaels is a guilty pleasure with me. I have an obsession and addiction to crafty projects. I welcome the Mission projects and Pinewood Derbys, the dioramas and pinterest projects and have a closet filled with supplies from Michaels (which I can pull out at random but perfect times - want Austrian crystal on your soccer jersey number - Hold on, I have them right here!). This Michaels felt a bit smaller than the ones I'm used to but it could just be the slightly different layout. The thing that impressed me is that while they didn't have the item I wanted in stock, they educated me and provided great customer service to help me find what I needed at another location (Caltrans Orange T-shirt - youth small). The store was well-stocked, clean, and while a little light on employees on the floor, I still found the help I needed. I would definitely float through this store or any other Michael's any time. Our Three-thumb review is 2 1/2 thumbs up! My 10 yo daughter loves craft projects almost as much as I do, plus they had some great "Science Channel" gifts she could get into. My teen-age son does not enjoy being dragged through this store but still gave it 1/2 a thumb when he was distracted from the torture by the "As Seen on TV" end cap and the selection of candy bars available when I bribed him to not whine while we visited the 2nd location rather than returning home for dinner. I bought some items from this Michaels, a chalkboard, a basket with a chalkboard label and a chalkboard marker to use on these items. I wrote on the chalkboard and the basket label using the chalkboard marker. The marker said that it was easy to remove from all chalkboard surfaces. When I tried to remove the writing from the chalkboard area, it came off but you could still see what I had just written, it would not come off. The marker damaged the chalkboard surfaces. So I could not reuse the chalkboard and basket because it was permanently stained. So I returned these items, when I explained what happened the girl called over the manager Andres. He wouldn't refund my money, he said that he could only give me store credit!?!?! What!?! Why!?! I'm like confused, your product damaged my other two items and I can not reuse them. Why wouldn't you give me back my money?!? He said that I used the items and could not get my money back. Uh!?!? Of course I tried to use them, how else would I know that this chalkboard marker is no good. I couldn't use them again because of that. It's not my fault that this happened, why am I being punished? His customer service and the way he handled things could have been differently. I now know not to ever shop at this Michaels, they do not stand by their products and or care about their customers at all. What a waste of time and money! I spend a lot of money there and they couldn't have cared less. I'm so disappointed and let down. I will never step foot in there again and will tell all of my friends that shop there what happened. 9 yr old birthday party at Michaels was a success. Mary who was hosting our party was a professional. All the kids were following her direction and had fun with arts and crafts. She also spent timr to helped me to supplies I needed weeks before the party and stored the supplies safe. The cost for the party without supplies was 25 dollars! Luckily, I was able to get discounts for the party and supplies. The reserved party was for 2 hours but ended up staying longer without extra charges. I truly recommend their birthday party. The customer service at this location is HORRIBLE. I went in to purchase a few items for sewing and jewelry making. There was no one to help me and those "available" didn't really want to help. After I found some of the items I needed, I got in line. The ultra-feminine, overly emotional male that was serving the line, helped everyone in front of me and EVERYONE behind me, skipping me INTENTIONALLY. When he offered to assist the woman behind me with her items I went straight at him with "why are you helping her when I'm standing in line as well and you didn't offer to help me?" He stated some BS about because my items weren't in my hand, he skipped me. Ha, what a farce! I took my complaint to the manager, but she wasn't much help either.
