We decided to add an activity for my friend's birthday and we picked here since it was close to the restaurant we wanted to try. Clay is a cute studio located in Downtown Long Beach. There are a couple of street meter parking. Watch for time limit cause I believe it's only 2 hours. We decided to do the intro wheel class for $65 per person. It was a two hour class. It was one hour of guided teaching and one hour of mostly free play and clean up. We got to make two items but only one item was included in the fees. You can pay extra to keep the second item. I thought it was a fun class. The instructor was very helpful and nice. They also help glaze our pieces and we just have to come back to pick them up. You have a choice of what glaze you would like also. I ended up picking white and it was so pretty. I really like how my piece came out. Overall, a fun activity to do if you're in the area.

Went for a private pottery class to make matcha bowl and whisk. It was $65 each and the class was two hours and you can make as many pieces as you can within that timeframe . The instructor was helpful and nice! Overall would recommend the experience.

I have been here twice! Once for the Halloween event and another for the Christmas event. Both times I had a blast!! Natalie S. was the instructor both times I went and she is absolutely the best! She gives great and detailed instructions and was very personable. I can't wait to come here again!

A cute little studio spot in downtown long beach! Attended a throwing class here and the instructor was very knowledgeable and friendly. $80 gets you a 2 hour class with 2 attempts and 1 piece to take home. The instruction time is well used and we definitely gained an appreciation for the difficulty of working with clay!

First time here and took intro to clay making. Kenzie (sorry if misspelled) was our instructor was highly positive and engaging learning environment. Kenzie was knowledgeable, approachable and made the experience so fun! Definitely going back!

So much fun! This is a review for both Jingle All the Clay and Clay of the Dead. Both activities were unique and really well done. The tasty treats were a huge bonus for me too. I had Natalie as an instructor for both, and she's honestly why I returned for the holiday activity! She was super personable, extremely helpful, and made the class really enjoyable. I'll definitely be back for another themed class!

They gave us a charcuterie board for couples!!

Class was great! The instructor seems to really know what he's doing. He explained everything and helped us with our pottery pieces. We got a couple's class and it included drinks and a charcuterie board. I gave them only four stars because at the end of the class the instructor was left alone. He ended up doing the work of two since the other person left. I would also suggest to have someone go around the room to take pictures of the couples since everyone's hands are dirty from the clay.

I took a class here randomly. It's something I've always want to do. I forgot the instructors name but she was super nice and helpful. If you told her what you wanted to accomplish she gave advice. She was super helpful. For the price it was pretty good. You get an excellent teacher and can make two pieces. Though you can only get one for free. I think it was great. Will be back.

Great Birthday surprise! My daughter signed us up for a pottery class, hosted by Kenzie. Kenzie was very kind, great with instructions and super helpful & encouraging! Small class of 8 people, very comfortable. Recommend wearing clothes you can wash, even with their aprons messy fun!

*Responding to the most common complaint about contacting the studio - You can text the phone line! It is not like someone is next to the phone the whole time - there are literally only two workers (often not there at the same time) that have multiple tasks like unloading/loading the kiln, preparing classes, assisting in production etc. The best thing to do is to come in during the open hours to ask about ceramic ware pick up. Also Eloise (co-owner of Clay) is super on top of the email so feel free to reach out that way. Remember this is a small community studio and be nice :) As a first responder, I felt burnt out especially after Los Angeles county was hit so hard in the winter of 2020/2021. When Clay opened back up around May, I was excited to join for classes. I took the basic series (9 classes) with Jojo and Cole. I loved it so much that I decided to become a member where you get a shelf, a key to the studio, and free firing and glazing. Almost everyday after work, I would go to wheel throw. I have since moved across the country and joined another ceramic studio. I can now more accurately describe how special Clay is after having another studio to compare. This studio is EXTRAORDINARY. Incredibly affordable, I will argue the most affordable pottery studio on either coast for the membership. The studio offers several options for clay bodies as well at a discount compared to big companies due to the whole sale discount. It is a very big deal that they do not charge members and students kiln fees. The two technicians - Collin and Olivia are literal gems and quickly became my good friends. They are very very hardworking and I always see them hustling. After going to another studio, I realized that other studios are not as inviting and community oriented. The studio is relatively diverse with a young crowd as well. Overall, I miss this studio so much. For those interested in a membership and more regular ceramics, this is the place. I hope to return soon! So jelly that they have a handbuilding class now :O

I have been a member for two years and would never have left if not for the fact I am leaving Long Beach. I have been a member of other studios and this one is particularly well staffed, organized, and is full of very skilled potters. The skilled members make it a particularly great studio. Olivia, a staff member, was always so kind and knowledge and offered great advice whenever I was trying to solve a pottery challenge. She goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is taken care of. I will always remember my times at Clay and will miss it dearly. Five stars!

Such a fun place to bring the kids for clay classes. The lady that runs the classes is kind and patient. Every time we have attend their classes my kids come out wanting to book another class. Such an awesome learning experience.

    Ask the Community - Clay

Hello! Im searching for a clay artist who can teach a one-day class to kids after school at the elementary school that my kids go to. Would be sponsored by the PTA. Do you guys offer that service?

Unfortunately that’s not a service we provide at this time but if you email us at info@clayonfirst.com we can give you information for some people who may be able to help you!

Do you still require Covid vaccinations to take classes?

As of right now, June of 2022, we are still requiring vaccines. That said we are constantly reviewing our policies to adjust to a continually evolving situation. These requirements may change at any time.

Is this do able with a couple of friends? None of us have ever worked with clay. Would a 2 hr class be enough time to learn and create something?

The Open Session classes are geared towards beginners and everyone is able to create something. Usually small bowls, cups, vases etc. There are 8 spots available in these two hour classes so depending on availability there should be plenty of room… Read more

Is there free parking for members and people taking classes?

There is free street parking within 2 city blocks and there is metered parking right out front!!

Do you offer hand building classes or only wheel?

We actually just started offering handbuilding as an option in our workshop classes. To sign up you would purchase a class pack 6, 9 or 12 and specifically book hand building classes, you could also book some trimming classes to finish and alter… Read more

Has anyone bought/experienced the multiple sessions package? Curious about whether you thought it was worth the money. thanks!

I'm already a pretty artsy person so this was right up my alley. My only feedback would be that I wish there were more beads and charms to decorate. I feel like the selection was a little slim and that could have very well been because we came a week after Halloween and perhaps it was a busy time? Regardless, the place was decorated so cute and the two hour time slot that I booked was exclusively for us, which I thought was really nice. There aren't many places like this in the area, so it's a fun and creative spot to check out. I found them on Instagram and decided to go with some friends. I've been to two craft studios that are similar, so my review is based on experiences from other places. The booking process was super easy--you reserve online with a $10 nonrefundable deposit, which goes toward the final cost of your craft. When we went at 3 PM on a Friday, we were the only group there, so we had the whole space to ourselves. Free street parking was available right in front of the store, which was a plus! Just a heads-up, it's located in an older part of Long Beach, so keep that in mind. The studio itself is absolutely adorable - very girly and charming. It's a smaller space but seems like it could accommodate a few larger groups at a time, so if you're planning to go with a big party, I'd recommend inquiring ahead of time. One thing I really appreciated is that there's no per-person studio fee. The craft prices ranged from around $15-$45, which is similar to other craft studios I've been to. You can decorate a variety of items like jewelry boxes, mirrors, photo frames, claw clips, phone cases, and glass cups. There was a nice selection of beads, charms, glitter, and other craft supplies. Their website and Instagram list monthly specials, and this month's Hello Kitty and Sonny Angel-inspired phone buddies were adorable. The owner was incredibly sweet, and you can tell she puts a lot of love into her business. She originally started Dainty Disco as a gift shop, so there's still a small retail section with cute merchandise available for purchase. A couple of minor things could be improved. The lighting inside the studio wasn't the best--it was a cloudy day, which didn't help, but some additional overhead lighting would have been useful for crafting. Also, a few craft options were sold out; for example, they were out of the larger heart jewelry boxes and only had one smaller one left. I think a section on the website that lists the options for crafts with pictures would have been helpful in guiding customers ahead of time for their choices. Overall, we had a great time, and it was nice to support a small business! They also host monthly craft meet-ups, which I'd love to check out in the future. If you're looking for a fun and creative activity in Long Beach, I definitely recommend giving Dainty Disco a visit and I'm down to come back!

It was my husband's birthday and as we were pressed on availability, I wanted to do something different, yet affordable and local and to my surprise, she checked all of the boxes. I was referred by an associate and it was absolutely perfect, my husband was blown away! What I loved most of all, is that she is so excellent at what she does, that all you need to do is answer a few questions about your likes and dislikes ie. Personality traits and from that alone, she can come up with the most unique ideas that will suit you to a "T". If you're anything like me, it's like you know what you want, but can't quite yourself put it into words, well she take your likes and what's important to you and capture it in such a one of a kind way, like putting words to music, for my husband and myself, it was like an adult play date, a fantasy of sorts. She managed to capture all of the playfulness and freedom that we once experienced as youths, we dropped all of our strict, semi uptight ways that comes so gradually over the years from being responsible adults and we were once again, two carefree youngsters without a care in the world, just enjoying each other's company, in an ambiance so fitting for the occasion. Her attention to detail to capture the most important moments as described to her was so meticulously orchestrated, that I knew right then, if I didn't know before, that this is not only her passion but her life's work. It's RARE these days to find someone so passionate about what they do, that it comes off in there work, in every single detail. My mind was completely at ease. Although it was only a getaway for just a few short hours, we had an epic time, living our very own fairytale, love story @Toni's Crafts and I hope that whoever read this, looking for an adventure of your own and you find yourself short on time, ideas and dare I say funds, Toni's Crafts is definitely the solution to your problems, she will plan an escape modeled just for you and or your party, on a budget that you can afford and yet still give it the same, if not more dedication, as a big, overpriced, party planning company would. She will do her best to work with you just to bring whatever YOUR vision is to life, whatever it is, that YOU want. Unlike those big party places that have preset boring, one size fits all, over priced packages @Toni's Crafts you have the opportunity to be creative just by allowing her to create a celebration dinner, party or whatever you desire, all based off of your imagination. I can not wait to plan my next function with her just to see what she can come up with. Maybe something with the girls, we will see
