Due to the pandemic, he did not attend preschool. And while he is very smart, he had problems adjusting to being in kindergarten, surrounded by strangers. We felt the school wasn't doing enough to help him with his separation anxiety so we took matters into our own hands. I reached out to 3 tutoring companies and Eggheads Learning Academy stood out. I approached each with the same concerns: 1. We need help pencil control and phonics 2. We need help helping him The other companies just wanted to focus on the academics. But Alenni was interested in my nephew as a person. Her 'mom' personality immediately leapt forward and we conversed that day about helping his whole being. Through multiple calls, texts and emails, she said she found the best match for him. And she was so right! In just 3 weeks, Lauren has helped him find his voice. He's interacting with his teacher and classmates in ways he never did before Miss Lauren came into his life. Lauren has also helped my niece to see her son is normal for his age and to celebrate the progress he has made in this short time of tutoring. Each small step has brought us to this point, 3 weeks later, where he actually told Miss Lauren, "Goodbye. I'll see you Tuesday." Alenni was referred to us and we immediately felt she was the best fit. Our son was engaged during sessions and gaining skills. Alenni is kind and calm and has a way of explaining things that make sense. It's a personalized experience too - not a "one size fits all" program like some of the bigger corporate programs. We are so pleased we decided to continue with Alenni through the school year and beyond. She wanted to be a police officer. Mike spent so much time with such kindness and caring to help this young woman prep for the math test. He seemed to have this unique ability to understand why this young woman was having difficulty and he tried several different approaches which ultimately one of them worked. Prior to the lessons, I was only able to speak several words and phrases, but now I'm able to have a basic conversation. After taking several sessions with Laura I have gained confidence with basic conversational skills in Spanish. The weekly Skype classes worked perfect with my schedule. I've been taking remote lessons with Laura for 1 year and in that time I've been able to…read moresignificantly advance Spanish language skills. I can now converse fluently in everyday scenarios, and I have an intermediate business vocabulary with an 80% comprehension of my Spanish-speaking professional colleagues (enough to ask the right questions!). I run an international tech start-up that requires frequent travel to Mexico City. I wanted to build on the four years of Spanish I took high school so that I could get around the city while traveling, as well as communicate more effectively with the staff and vendors that were not fluent in English. My work hours tended to be long and unpredictable, so the Skype sessions with Laura were actually a huge selling point for me - I don't think I could have improved my Spanish any other way as physical classroom lessons were out of the question for me. Because I wasn't practicing Spanish regularly, I was VERY rusty. Prior to my first lesson, Laura gave me a placement test so she could assess where I should begin. Every session is 100% Spanish, so I wasn't sure how we were going to pull this off. I am not going to lie - my Spanish was stilted, jarring and filled with "umm" and "hmm" during the first lesson, almost like I never learned a thing in school! Rest assured, Laura was an intuitive instructor and adapted the topics to help me feel more comfortable in the first couple of sessions. During lessons, we used the Skype chat function to help translate or conjugate words I needed to learn, so that was very useful - and I was able to go back and review her feedback afterward. While Skype has been a great communication tool, it only works because there's a seasoned educator behind it. One of Laura's strengths is her ability to adapt and contextualize the lessons to my specific needs. The first couple of months I had homework prior to each lesson, which refreshed me on the basics. Later, the lessons became more conversational and we ran through some business related topics so I could learn vocabulary I was most likely to use. After 3 weeks, I stopped stumbling over my words; after 3 months, I was able to travel solo in Mexico without a lick of English; after 6 months, I was able to understand about 50% of professional Spanish speakers; and after 1 year, I read, write, and speak Spanish daily - informally and professionally. My Spanish is not always perfect, but it's very good and I feel confident speaking to others. I'm still taking lessons to keep improving. I've recommended Laura to other friends and peers because she's helped me so much. If you are serious about learning, give a few lessons a try. Saved the best summer camp for last this summer. My son is going into first grade so this was our…read morefirst summer of summer camps and we tested out 6 different ones. This was leaps and bounds above all the others. I had walked by it last summer on a walk and immediately set a reminder in my phone to sign my son up for this summer. It isn't just how well organized it is and the fact that the kids are outside in the water learning new things and challenging themselves every day, it's the way the director/owner (and all the counselors) speak to the children. It's exactly how you'd want someone leading your child while they are away from home - they teach respect, are firm in holding the kids accountable for behavior, but all in the name of having a positive experience. We will absolutely be signing him up here next year for at least half of the summer. They offer full day and half day, we did full day (8-4), but I ended up picking him up around 2 a couple of the days just because it was so hot out. I have heard the counselors consistently encourage and actively ensure the kids drink water and reapply sunscreen and you can tell they genuinely care about each and every kid. This is only my son's third day and he's already bonded with the staff and talks about Matty (the owner) multiple times a day. He's never been on any board other than a boogie board and within 1 hour on his first day he was paddling out on his own on a paddle board. I can just see his confidence beaming from this camp.
