3 years ago on our 2nd anniversary we came to Long Beach and spent the weekend hanging out around the harbor and going to the Aquarium. So for our 5th anniversary we decided to come back to Long Beach but this time my fiancée had several groupon deals to choose from. So out of the 5 options I chose the Queen Mary tour and the painting class with wine. That's how we stumbled across Creative Canvas LA. Laniqua (the owner) was awesome from the moment we called her to see if she would accept our groupon the next day. She saved a spot for us and asked to send her an email once we purchased the groupon so she could make it official. Very cool! Trying to find the place wasn't too hard but we did have to ask a restaurant near by where we could find the painting class. Fortunately for us, they knew exactly what we were talking about and point us along the way. Upon arriving, we had the opportunity to meet Laniqua in person and she remembered it was our anniversary while pointing us to our seats and blank canvases. She had an assistant who was awesome and very helpful while Laniqua walked us through the steps. The only negative was that the groupon said the class comes with a free glass of wine but there wasn't any available and if we did want drinks we had to purchase them from the bar next door. Other than that, the class was fun and very interesting the way you learn how to paint w picture. I took this class for the first time with my girlfriend a few weeks ago and LOVED it. We both had so much fun. Myia was our teacher and she was really cool. She had funny jokes and I really appreciated her coming around to help us individually when we were stuck or to save our paintings from our own destruction. I am not an artist naturally. Whenever I have to draw something I usually warn people that it won't be pretty. At the end of the session, and with the help of a glass of wine, I couldn't believe how well my painting turned out. Even for someone who really isn't drawn to painting, it was much easier than I thought when Myia broke it down step by step. I love it so much, and have it proudly displayed in my room right now. I took a few of my girlfriends as part of a cute little Sunday funday to a wine and paint here. Let me start by saying that I can mess up a stick figure but my instructor was AMAZING, LaNiqua works with you and your group on every single step. She is such a patient and kind instructor. I went from messing up stick figures to painting my first "Oh hey, I actually want to hang this somewhere" painting. She had me feeling like Picasso that day as well as the other girls. My husband just threw me a private paint party at our house for my birthday. It was such a fun experience. We had 13 of my closest friends together. We were drinking and eating and dancing and painting. Everyone loved the experience of painting their own artwork and being able to relax and be silly at our own private event. The instructor was nice and taught us good techniques. They set up and cleaned up! It was such a great experience for myself and all my friends. We highly recommend creative Canvas LA!! read more

This is the place to be for a paint & sip. This business offers many accommodations- private party, restaurant setting or the cute studio they have in Long Beach. All of the instructors are extremely talented and helpful. They walk you through it step by step, my paintings came out fantastic they are actually wall worthy and I'm no painter, but yes a lil wine and a lil time will bring out anyone's inner Picasso here. The only reason I'm giving any stars at all is because the painting experience was great, and we had fun with Dri, who was a great artist and very patient. However, this review is for customer service. This establishment is extremely lacking in customer service. First of all, if you're planning on attending a session at the Crab Pot, be advised that they DO NOT provide any wine and you CANNOT bring your own. If you don't read the rest of my review, at least read this part. It states this on the website but not in their confirmation email sent the week of, so don't forget. Second, the phone number listed is useless. I called multiple times during their hours and apparently it's disconnected or some other excuse. Regardless, the number doesn't work. Third, they don't answer their emails. I had sent 3 emails over the course of 2 weeks and was told that they "were going to spam." Could have been believable, except once I sent the last email stating that I was unhappy with their services, they replied in less than 15 minutes. I don't really see how all of a sudden my emails weren't spam anymore, especially when I expressed my dissatisfaction. Finally, I reserved 3 spots and emailed (once they began replying to me) that I would like it changed to just 2 spots. I tried to do it myself on their website, but apparently it isn't mobile compatible because the "cancel" button didn't work. I received a reply that my reservation would be changed. I consistently checked to see if it would change, but that wasn't the case. I even showed up to the session and was still signed up for 3. Luckily, I wasn't charged for the third one, and usually this wouldn't have bothered me, but after all their other strikes it only added to my list of concerns. I thoroughly enjoyed the painting session and Dri was great, however it's a shame that I will probably not use Creative Canvas again because of their lack of customer service. read more

I can't express how much fun me and the ladies had when we went to Have Paint Night here at Creative Canvas. The Host was super nice. The place was Clean and neat. I Most definitely will have another day here. So whoever in the L.A. area make sure you check out the place. As soon as I knew about the day I wanted I purchased the tickets. Than about and hour later I wanted to add more people to the sitting and it was all sold out. I guess that's goes to show you how good the place is. Let me first say that I have not painted anything in over 30 years. This experience was amazing. Not only did I tap in to my creative side, I met some cool people, won a bottle of wine, sipped some wine, and met an amazing instructor. If you have never picked up a brush before, believe me when I say, you will have a master piece by the end of the session. Well, maybe not everyone. I picked the specific date and picture because the website said that on that day you could BYOB - just a few days before the class we got an email to confirm our spot that also said NO BYOB. I bought this deal on Groupon. I called multiple times to see when they were posting August dates and paintings. They don't answer their phone most of the time or respond to messages. I was told that August dates would be posted beginning of July. It's now almost August and the paintings have not been posted and the Groupon expires mid-September. I would not recommend this place, there are plenty of other wine and paint places that are way more professional and organized. read more
