I've been to Michael's many times for arts and crafts supplies, but this time I came in looking for a frame for a project I'm doing at home. I got a little distracted because they had a great deal on fall and Halloween decorations 50% off which I couldn't pass up. I did have a hard time finding fabric. With Joann's closed, there aren't really many fabric options anymore. I eventually found it in the back corner, but the selection was pretty limited. One of the employees helped me get a basket down, and she was very friendly and helpful. The only small frustration was seeing later that the frame I bought was on sale online only. Still, I was able to finish my project and it turned out great, so overall it was a good trip. read more

I always enjoy a visit to a Michaels store whenever I get a chance. This place is a long distance from where I live, but Joe and I happened to be in the neighborhood. We were specifically looking for a couple of inexpensive frames for some colorful "Nightmare Before Christmas" posters that we purchased for Joe's daughter as a Christmas gift. Not surprisingly, they had a large selection to choose from. And luckily for us, the frames we wanted happened to be on sale as "buy one and get the second one half off". (Or so we thought). Then, we found out at the register, the sale had ended the day before, but the sale signs had not been removed. We almost had to pay full price, until we questioned a staff member, and she graciously honored the sale due to the store's mistake. I found this Michaels to be pretty well organized and fully stocked with everything one could possibly imagine to help the craft oriented person. You'll find candle making, soap making, painting supplies, wood working, artificial flower arrangements, jewelry creations, candy & cake decorating, wedding stuff, crocheting & knitting, and lots of household & seasonal decorations. Michael's Arts and Crafts is the only place I go for framing. The framing department is definitely 5 star. I've had a number of framing projects completed by them.... Some small and some major. I've had prints, paintings, and even my husband's uniform jacket framed. Each project was definitely a winner. KARIE is the manager and has helped me several times. Her recommendations have always been spot on. Can't say enough good about her service and expertise. In my opinion, each person I have dealt with has had a good eye for the artistic aspects of the project. Service is friendly, timely, and prices are more than competitive.  One project was to frame a fairly large print of a historically significant house .........relating to my family. She helped me make the right choices for everything right down to the brass plates. I can honestly recommend Michael's framing for expert advice, competitive pricing, and friendly service. They said they can't control the website apparently they're not letting the company know that there is a problem. They also said that other people had complained of the same thing. I came in to get balloons inflated and I immediately received such attitude from who I am guessing is the manager, she needs to learn that this is her job and that is what she is here to do. I don't need attitude from who I again assume is the manager when I come to get balloons inflated at your job that offers balloon inflation. Also had no balloons in stock so it forced me to pay a stupid amount of money for a few balloon from behind the counter. Also who I would guess to be the manager really needs to get off her high horse, speaking to her employee who is a grown woman like she's a stupid child. Please remember that your employees are humans and not pawns that you can belittle. This has always been my favorite location but recently they have taken out almost all the registers and replaced them with self checkouts. There are only two employee operating registers. I went in today to do an online order pickup, when I grabbed my order there was only one item out of the four that I ordered, the note says other items couldn't be found. I went to look for a substitute for the items I online ordered and found the exact items so I'm unsure how that happened. I had to wait in line to return the online order item and rebuy it with my other three items so I could get the buy one get one 50 percent off, manager said there was no other way. Since I had a return I couldn't use self checkout and the 6 people ahead of me all refused to use self checkout for various reasons as well. Not a great experience. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. Myself, my friend and her mother came here to shop. We get to check out and we bought 2 items that were BUY 1, GET 1 50 percent off. The sign said "ALL" so we waited about 15 mins for help at self-check out and then let the workers know it's not ringing up half off on the 2nd item...meanwhile they said "this is not included" WELL, YOUR SIGN SAYS "ALL" for the BUY 1, GET 1 50 PERCENT OFF. I've been to this Michael's multiple times in hopes it'll get better. Next time I'll just save myself the trouble and go to Joann's instead. Both times their sales floor workers were hard to find. When I did find them this time they were in the fake flower section talking. When I asked to confirm they worked here they stared at me, so I just continued to ask for some directions. I was looking for a secret Santa gift for Someone at work. I came across an exquisite item which happened to be at a 70% off door buster sale price. My local Michael's here in Citrus Heights did not have any in stock however this location did. I was able to place an order online and have them reserve one for me so that I could pick it up at my convenience. When I got to the store I was in and out in five minutes, and I even bought a pack of Christmas cards which were near the register, and they were 50% off. All in all a very good trip. When I was checking out today using the self checkout kiosk, I had 2 matte boards in my cart and I started to check out one of them using the kiosk and the gentleman working the cash register immediately came over and asked me if I had two of them and if I was going to ring the second one up. He accused me in an indirect way of shoplifting so to speak. I told him I did not need his help and that it did work for the first board and I told him I was about to scan on the second board. but he like immediately jumped on me and asked me if I was going to scan the second board before I even had a chance to finish scanning the first board and so in a way it was like he was indirectly assuming that I was going to shoplift. that is completely not acceptable and the employees do not need to be so quick to jump on you when you are using self check out. I hate the way they just automatically assumed that I wasn't going to scan her the next one in my cart! Not cool at all! read more

Went into Michael's Crafts for new paint brushes, turns out first day open since closed for Covid SUPER IMPRESSED. They were sanitizing carts and high traffic areas as went in and at checkup they sanitized the keypad after every use. Thank you Michael's! This review will focus on the framing department, but on a general note: the store is incredibly cluttered - especially the aisles, leaving almost no walkway while employees or customers stop or leave carts blocking the aisles with seemingly no self-awareness for others trying to make their way through the store. Step to the side and leave room for people to walk in your aisles! It has to be approaching a fire hazard with all the craft supplies lying around. Onto the framing department: I placed an order for four custom frames followed by an order for 8 custom frames the next weekend (before the first batch came in). For the initial order, they were very busy but the employees did their best to help everyone quickly while addressing those waiting in line. They were attentive, friendly, and professional. When my turn came to order, they helped me explore the available options to find what would meet my goals. Things started to go awry when I picked up the first order. Once I got home I realized one of the frames had been warped from someone attaching the mounting hardware incorrectly, so the frame had to be re-ordered. 1 week of wait time estimate. A bit of a nuisance because it was to be a part of a gallery wall with the other pieces, but the offered to put on the correct hardware so I could at least get the positioning right while I waited for the new frame. It's worth noting that it is the district manager who incorrectly installed the hardware, damaging the frame and then either failing to notice or hoping that I wouldn't notice while passing off the damaged frame to me. (According to one of the employees in the framing department) Fast forward to today: The 8 pieces from the second order and the redone frame from the first order are ready for pickup. First, the redone frame was not done to the same size as the original, so the original matting did not fit anymore. They were also out of that matting so they could not replace it with the same one without more waiting. The employee helping me took the liberty of installing a different second matting to cover the difference. I debated on it for a while, and while I don't like it as well as the original, I just wanted to move on. The second issue: 7 of the 8 pieces are a set and when I ordered their frames had carefully specified where I wanted the fillet (decorative element inside the frame) to approach on the art to clearly show the artistic edges and the writing at the base. The filet completely obscured the writing and some of the art's edges. The employee was very understanding, friendly, and helpful, ultimately we landed on removing the fillet. Once I saw the finished work, the frame still obstructed some of the writing, (this is after I left for several hours and came back) and I did not like the look of the frames nearly as much as I had with the fillet, but there were no other stand-alone frame options that would work without getting too busy across the 7 frames. Some of the spacers on the frames were, however, showing into the art, so I had to wait while that was readjusted with new glass cut. Finally, with all of the art framed, I headed home. Slightly disappointed, but at least it's behind me. Turns out I have to redo the hanging I had already done because of the redone frame which is no longer the size it was. I'm not sure how I will balance the wall because it was originally the same size as another piece on the wall, and now it's just an oddball size. While the employees in the framing department seem very friendly and helpful, I question the broader framing service's quality as I had frequent recurring issues and after spending nearly $3,000 on frames with Michaels, I left without complete satisfaction and with a good amount of time wasted from extra trips back to the store. You'd think that they would offer a discount or a store credit or something for all the inconveniences and mistakes on their end, but they did not. If you want to order custom frames, I unfortunately have to recommend that you head somewhere else. read more

I made an online order for pickup today at 1:12 because I am sick and also have a 3 year old to take care of and didn't want to get stuck in the store looking for things. As of now at 4:43 my order is not ready yet. I called the store and the employee who answered the phone said there were 4 people head of me and she would ask how long that should take. Then she hung up on me. I called back and she said it would be ready today but did not narrow that down. In the meantime I made an order at JoAnn''s at 2:30 and less than a half hour later it was ready. I should have ordered everything I needed at Joann's. Unfortunately, the Michael's in Roseville has steadily declined in quality over the years. I would highly recommend using JoAnn's instead of Michael's. Still waiting for my order! read more

I went to Michaels on 1-6-20 for some yarn and I couldn't find exactly what I wanted so I looked around for a worker. I looked all over the store!! I saw 2 workers at the check out and I didn't want to bother them with what I wanted bc they can't exactly leave customers waiting forever in line to help me. So I looked some more and I went to the back to where the picture frames are and there were 3 other women there waiting to find a worker because they too could NOT FIND ONE! I was getting impatient so I yelled "HELLO!" Kinda loud which isn't the nicest but there should be workers on hand and not all in the back and this women comes out. I was trying to explain to her that I couldn't find a worker anywhere and neither could the other ladies around me but she rudely interrupts and spits out "what do you need? What's your problem!" So I said it was yarn and she barks that she'll page someone to be there. IF THERE IS SOMEONE TO PAGE THEN HAVE THEM ON THE FLOOR LITERALLY ANYWHERE ON THE FLOOR! They ended up not having what I wanted even though on their website it said they did. After this I went to Hobby Lobby and found exactly what I was looking for with help from their abundance of staff. read more

Never imagined I would write a review on a craft store...yet here I sit, car laden with the supplies for what will become gift baskets in a matter of days. I would be lost, doomed to wander the aisle aimlessly, if the lovely ladies at Michaels hadn't been available to help -particularly Jean. Because of Jean, I was able to procure 15 wicker baskets from the top row of the basket aisle. Jean stopped working the zone she was assigned to, and came to help me (with ladder in tow) locate 15 baskets of similar size and finish. She found me a U-boat cart and helped me bring them to the front when it was clear 3 shopping carts wouldn't suffice. She organized them for her colleague at the register to be able to scan them in efficient little groups. Only when I told her the size of the car these wares would be fitting into did she pale at the daunting task...but we pressed on. Here I sit, 15 wicker baskets richer in my mini Mario Kart of a vehicle...and I owe it to Jean. She is wonderful. Truly. read more

Now that we are down to the wire, I was on the desperate search for wedding supplies for the ceremony. Whoever made up the rule that you need a special pen to sign the guest book should be hunted down. BUT, as tradition calls for it, I was looking for one. The wedding section at the Roseville location is a couple isles and located near the fake flowers section. I was hoping they would have a whole section of Martha Stewart wedding supplies, but they didn't. They did have things like fake petals, printable invitation paper, and cake cutting knives (not to be confused with regular knives, of course). The candle selection was really low too, which was frustrating when all I needed was white candles in different sizes. Not sure why the shelves we so barren. So for $40 I left with the aforementioned special book signing pen, a unity candle holder and 3 white candles. I think you can get better deals online, but then you can see the product in person, so Michael's is a good alternative. read more
