Reviews With Photos - Mark's Hallmark Shop

Stopped in as I saw that they are reopened again as Mark's Hallmark. Great news. Reopened 2 weeks ago. Still stocking some of the merchandise. As I walked in, a young blonde girl turned & in a stern voice, asked what I was looking for. The dour expression remained on her face the short time that I was in the shop. She seemed annoyed that I popped in & was anxious for me to leave if I was not making a purchase. She was busy! It is my fervent hope that service gets better with this reopening. Previous reviews of this location were not good. Hopefully the owner is reading this & nips the crappy customer service in the bud. I'll be back soon to check in once again. Three stars for the reopening! Minus two for the unwelcoming employees.

It's in a fantastic location in Old Town Auburn -- close to parking and other cute shops and good restaurants. It's within 5 minutes of 80. The owners are very knowledgeable, friendly and customer focused. You always get a greeting, an offer of help and great advice on painting projects or gift items fresh from a buying trip. And it's also a Fusion mineral paint distributor with a great selection in-store, plus the option to purchase online. To help you learn how to get the most from your furniture paint purchase, they offer classes in the back of their beautiful store. I took a Painting 101 class with Mary, the owner, and she was a terrific teacher. Here's what I loved: FAIR PRICING: I had been looking for a class and saw them offered at $65 to $95, so her fee of $75 was very competitive. The difference was that I could use the class to paint my own item, if I liked, rather than just try techniques on wood boards, as some do. All supplies were included in the 3-hour class. APPROACHABLE STYLE: Answered questions patiently and thoroughly, demonstrated techniques and tricks, and offered advice while STILL asking your personal project preferences on color, wax use, distress level, etc. She was generous with her time and expertise -- which just makes me want to give her more business. This is exactly the kind of local, small business that you want to see thrive. It's a go-to stop for me -- whether shopping for a gift or doing a painting project.

The number of Sanrio characters represented wasn't extensive, but I saw various Hello Kitty, Kuromi, My Melody, Cinnamaroll, Keroppi, Tuxedo Sam, Pom Pom Purin, Badtz Maru, & Pochacco items. There were also some random Disney, Mario Bros, Pokemon, Care Bears, & other characters I'm not familiar with. I found the price point reasonable for the items we purchased & saw marked down items as well. We walked out with a great selection of stocking stuffers. The man who was working at the time was very welcoming & friendly. He invited us to take a closer look at items & pointed things out for us to consider. He gave us a small basket to use to hold our purchases as we shopped. This was a fun & pleasant shopping experience.

TuTugether - Staff member leading the rug tufting instruction session

TuTugether

We originally had a disappointing experience at the Roseville TuTogether rug tufting session,…read moreespecially because it did not feel as beginner-friendly as we expected. However, after sharing our concerns, management reached out and genuinely listened. They showed that they care about customer feedback and made a sincere effort to make things right and improve the overall customer experience. I really appreciate their professionalism, responsiveness, and willingness to address the situation. That kind of customer service means a lot and shows they value their guests. Because of their thoughtful gesture and effort to resolve our concerns, I'm updating my review to 4 stars.

I'm finally getting around to writing a review for TuTugether Sacramento, and I have mixed feelings…read moreafter visiting twice. My first visit was with my boyfriend, and we had a genuinely great experience. I made a reservation the day before for two small rugs, and there were plenty of time slots available. When we arrived, the session went smoothly. The space itself is a mix of rug tufting and deco-den, with around a dozen tufting stations and a large table in the center for other crafts. It is a bit tight, especially with merchandise displayed near the front, but it still felt fun and creative. The activity took longer than expected, but we had a great time trying something new. My only critique from that first visit was that instruction was pretty minimal. The staff gave us the basics but didn't go into much detail or offer many tips--we mostly figured things out ourselves as we went. Because of that positive first experience, I brought my sisters for a second visit, expecting something similar. Unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing and really highlighted major issues with customer service. We arrived around 1:45 PM on a Saturday as a party of three. The store was busier than my first visit, but not full--there were still about 8-9 open tufting stations, and online reservations were still available. When we walked in, we went straight to the register and waited about 5-10 minutes without any acknowledgment, despite making eye contact with two employees working up front. Eventually, one employee asked if we had been helped. When I asked about availability for three people, she responded bluntly, "Absolutely not... it's really busy," and told us to come back later or book online--then immediately turned away from us. This was confusing, given the visible open stations and available booking slots online. To test this, I stepped outside and booked a reservation for 2:30 PM--just 20 minutes later. While we were waiting outside, we could clearly see that same employee sitting at a tufting station working on what appeared to be her own personal project. At that point, it felt less like they were "too busy" and more like she simply didn't want to help us or clear her station. When we returned, a different employee (who was much more helpful) checked us in with no issue. Ironically, she had to ask that same employee to clean up her station so we could be seated--confirming that space had been available the entire time. I also overheard her mention that she "wasn't sure what to do," so she told us to come back later, which honestly just reinforced how dismissive the earlier interaction was. On top of that, we were seated in a very hot area with direct sunlight, even though there were other open spots. It made the experience uncomfortable, and while the staff did acknowledge the heat, it didn't seem like much effort was made to relocate us. To end on a positive note, our rugs turned out really cute--but that was mostly due to our own effort. The pricing is also something to consider: small rugs are $88+tax, and there's a $20 deposit per rug online. It also felt like tax was applied twice (once on the deposit and again on the final payment), which was frustrating. Overall, I think this is a fun experience to try at least once, especially if you're looking for something creative and different. However, the inconsistency in service--especially during my second visit--really left a bad impression. The staff came across as inexperienced and disengaged, and it didn't feel like customer experience was a priority. I probably wouldn't return and would look into other tufting studios in the Sacramento area instead.
