The staff is out of this world and goes above and beyond to make sure everyone was satisfied ( The Chef came out several times and checked on things with our large party to ensure he was operating at a level that moved our taste buds in a pleasant direction ! ) The Atmosphere in Michael's is absolutely stunning !!! "I wanted it to be the event of the century." My wife was turning 65, and while we're still young at heart, I wanted her to have the experience of a lifetime. Planning from Miami wasn't easy, so I needed a venue that could handle the details with excellence. A trusted friend--part of my planning committee--highly recommended Michael's Restaurant through her party planner. The only catch? It wasn't even fully open yet. I was hesitant, so I asked her to do a "reconnaissance mission." Her report: the facility and staff were an 11 out of 10, but the menu needed some refinement. We had about six weeks to bring everything together. Fast forward--I landed at DCA with just three days to go. From our side, everything was in place, but I needed to see the venue and meet the team. That's when I met Mildred, the COO, who had been in constant communication throughout the process. She immediately put me at ease. The Grand Banquet Hall was even more breathtaking in person than in photos. Mildred walked me through the space and its impressive technology--especially the synchronized video screens that later showcased hundreds of cherished photos of my wife with family and friends. She also introduced me to Stan, the owner and visionary behind Michael's. He was personable, accommodating, and went above and beyond in ways I didn't expect. Every last-minute request we had? Mildred handled it seamlessly. By Friday, everything was set--except I still had one concern: the food. On the day of the event, I arrived at noon and was warmly welcomed by Mildred and her team. To my surprise, I met Stan's parents, who were carefully preparing additional centerpieces that perfectly complemented our design. That moment reassured me--this wasn't just a business; it was a family operation that truly cared. From that point on, I knew we were in good hands. The staff, though young, displayed a level of professionalism, warmth, and teamwork well beyond their years. They moved as one cohesive unit. Watching Mildred lead the team was like watching a world-class conductor--precise, calm, and in complete control. As guests began arriving, everything flowed flawlessly. The coordination, the transitions, the attention to detail--it was all executed at the highest level. And the food? Absolutely outstanding--10 out of 10. I found myself wondering why there are so many reviews that aren't recommended for this spot? I didn't know what I was going to encounter whenever I came, and I honestly didn't know when I was going to come through because the weekly reservation links are somewhat difficult to come by. But I stumbled upon it, I made a reservation for myself, and then I decided to visit. I was lucky enough to get a parallel meter at spot right outside of the building. Otherwise, I would have parked near the swamp area or near the courthouse. Just from the outside, you know you are in for a treat. The building looks so regal. When you step inside, they play into the ever trendy viny walls, but there are a lot of beautiful roses too! It is obvious what their intended color scheme is, and it's beautiful. I didn't get to check out the other levels, but it was stunning from ceiling to floor. I checked in with the hostess, and since I was by myself, she asked if I wanted to sit at the bar, and I was fine with that. My spot was ready within 5 minutes. I got seated and was pleased by how beautiful the bar space was. And the dining room was full and popping! I received several menus from the bartender. Mind you, the bar was full and there was only one bartender. For 15 people, I feel like he could have used some help. One menu advertised a drink of the week, which was this pear drink that looked amazing. But they were out of the ingredients for it. So I decide to stick to water and behave, haha. I was struggling a lot of options for food, but settled on the seafood omelette and grits. That omelette was hefty, and the grits were flavor deliciously. I was impressed by how wonderful everything was, and for $25 I was not disappointed. Despite how full the restaurant was, everything did not take long either. It took a while to get my check, but that was really it. I would love to return, but I'll prefer to go at a time when it's quieter, just for my own preference. Everything was lovely. The food was delicious, the decor impeccable, the server was friendly, quick, and courteous. The room was busy, but we never felt rushed. The owner/family was there making the rounds, welcoming guests, and ensuring everyone was taken care of. They spent time at each table. They were all so friendly, authentic and genuinely glad to have us there. THE ONLY ISSUE was the "large group" service charge of 20% (we were a group of 7), on top of the 18% gratuity. While our serve was excellent, a 38% additional charge to the bill was unexpected and excessive. That's the only reason for the 4 stars, otherwise, our experience was EXCELLENT! read more

I was invited to come take a sneak peek of the restaurant while they have their friends and family begin to try the dishes, being a foodie there was only one answer! YES, I'd love to come! The place was packed but it was only friends and family who were patronizing. I had to ask, if it's already packed with just friends and family how are you all going to welcome the community? They were gracious enough to show me the downstairs! Whoa! This place is NICEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I thoroughly enjoyed brunch last week at this restaurant. The atmosphere is inviting and gorgeous. The management came over to our group to welcome us and tell us more about the restaurant and what else they had to offer. They took us on a tour of the facility which has a wonderful area for private parties which includes a dance floor. I had the catfish and grits and it was so good. I finally tried this nice family owed business. I love family owed restaurants. I wish there were more in Prince George's County. These folks are so nice ! Several came to check in with us at the table one by one. I learned that "Michael" passed away 25 years ago, I met his younger brother. The waitress Lulu was so professional. She knew the menu well and she answered our questions. The food was tasty. I enjoyed the lamb chops. I had the "Tequila Mockingbird" speciality drink. I also had the chocolate mouse cake. This was just the soft opening for this new restaurant. It's very large. It looks like 2 store fronts together. They have two separate bars. My only criticism is they bought the food out before the drink. I didn't feel rushed. There was a sign up front stating there is a 90 minute limit. I am sure we were there longer. There was parking up front but it didn't seem legal so we parked across the street about a block away. It was the county court parking lot which was legal. I didn't risk being towed even though I had to walk a few steps. My second criticism is I wish they had bread. Biscuits with honey would have been a nice touch. Last minute date night (Sat., 12/27/25) with one other couple. Busy holiday season so the rest of our crew were either traveling or being homebodies with visiting family. We had perfect service (shout out to Brittany); and pretty decent food and drinks. My friend enjoyed her lavender lemon drop but I did not enjoy my Cosmo (had a jalapeño aftertaste). The lamb chops were the BEST thing ordered tonight, followed by the seafood linguine alfredo and then the steak/cheese eggroll appetizer ... definitely made up for the salmon bite deviled eggs (the eggs tasted old). The branzino was decent (needed a lil salt) and the mashed potatoes were a lil dry but not a deal breaker. The restaurant is HUGE and stunning (multiple bars, ornate chandeliers, flooring, seating, etc.) ... a bit intense (personally tired of flower and grass accent walls) but gorgeous, nonetheless. Think Franklin Saint from Snowfall or Ghost from Power ... dark, flashy opulence. MAKE SURE you ask for a tour of the banquet area! Parking may pose an issue as they gain popularity. Their dedicated lot could not accommodate tonight's crowd and I can see the lot across from 7-11 becoming stricter about metered parking in the near future butttt I declare the experience of dining here and supporting this black owned restaurant worth the effort. The waitress Tiera was our server and she was PHENOMENAL.. It was our first time and Tiera was very honest about what she liked and hadn't tried.. I am an Aries and she is too. I don't follow HORROR scopes but WE Aries tell the TRUTH.. anyway, the food was delicious we had the seafood pasta, cauliflower bites and mango habanero wings.. I have been to Michael's twice since they have opened and each time was better than the last. When you walk into the restaurant you are greeted by the professional hosts and you can't help but to notice the upscale decor. You can really tell that the owners took their time with every detail from the booths, the silverware, the plates and glasses. It's a family owned business and the staff treats you like you are a part of the family. The owner, his wife and mother stop by each of the tables, to greet the customers and ensure we are enjoying our meals. You wouldn't get that sort of attention at any other establishment. So far, I've had the seafood pasta which, in my opinion, was Slap Ya Mama good, the catfish and grits which was also excellent. The adult beverages were on point, too! I definitely plan to return in the future. We don't have many black owned restaurants in Prince George's County and I am so glad they are not far from my residence. I found out about this spot around 7am while scrolling on IG. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy I did! This place is GREAT! The employees are GREAT, friendly and knowledgeable. The drinks are PERFECT(that Between the Sheets, a PERFECT Cosmo and a BEAUTIFUL Henny Sidecar.....YAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!!!!!!!) The food is AWESOME! Since this was my 1st time, I ordered the most basic items with the mentality that if you can't get these right, everything else will be trash. My eggs were PERFECT and my bacon was DELICIOUS! What REALLY sold me on this establishment was how comfortable and kind the staff was towards each other. Horrible- they were out of vegetables on the menu. We had to ask for side salads. The side salad lettuce wasn't even cut properly. The pork chop dinner was served without the rice pilaf, the salmon was over cooked, PRICES RIDICULOUS for the value! The place doesn't know what it wants to be either a sports bar, a family dining or elegant restaurant. It's all mixed up. On top of all of this, they have the nerve to levy a mandatory 18% gratuity on your bill. Sadly, we were so disappointed we didn't even take pictures of the food, but here's a picture of the receipt.I patronize them once and once it's enough for me. I don't recommend patronizing this establishment. If there was a choice for no stars that's what I'd select. They need to seriously reevaluate what they offer customers or my best guess is that these doors will not be open very long. So sad. read more

Disappointed in my experience on the day after Valentine's Day. Apparently, they are currently booked to capacity after hosting an event. It's raining and women were standing outside on heels while a security guard comea to the door and tell us they weren't letting people in. No apologies from the Manager or special invitation to return on another day, etc. In addition, you had to walk to the back of the restaurant passing to limited parking space, just to see a bunch of empty tables. It was disappointing. Just for a future note, when turning customers away for prebooked events, consider sending someone else other than a security guard to the door and have something for them to appreciate their support of your business. read more

The atmosphere/ambiance is outstanding. Sam was great as well as our server Marilyn, who by the way was on her first night. Parking in the area now is limited. There appears to be a plan to mitigate this issue per Chef Vernon. My party ordered lobster spinach dip. It was luke warm not hot. Salmon was not fully cooked. Lamb chops were warm. Garlic mashed potatoes were hot and flavorful. Broccolini was cold. Steak was warm, lobster Mac and cheese was delicious and hot. I WOULD recommend the lobster mac. Now the warm food was sent back and returned. The salmon when returned was cooked but dry and not really blackened. The steak and lambchops when returned, flavor was different and dried. My understanding is when food leaves the kitchen it is not to be returned which can cause a cross contamination issue but our meals went back and was returned, instead of new portions prepared, except for the salmon and spinach dip. When the lobster spinach dip was hot it was delicious. The steak and lambchops had good flavor when initially served, it just wasn't hot. Now temperature is subjective, but our party all had the same complaint. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. The tables are large in the booths with sitting room. The booth seats are far from the table so if you are going to eat you will be leaning forward with no back support. This can be a good thing as a lot of restaurants forego space to cram more booths. The drinks were good and Sam's sommelier expression was quite notable. This restaurant has a small menu but has the potential to do quite well. In the area, it will be the best restaurant. As it is going through an extensive soft opening, hopefully all these items will be addressed. I understand as a former restaurant employee, that it takes time for staff to learn the timing of cooking so that meals come out at the same time. This must be addressed, hot food is a priority. My original plan was to spend this beautiful day and go to Baltimore but after checking Michael's website I was pleasantly surprised they were opened for brunch and decided to go to give it a try bc I have been eyeing this restaurant for awhile but I wasn't sure their opening was. So I drove from DC to upper Marboro and I can say everything from the service to the food to the ambience was amazing! Thank you Mrs.Neal, Mr.Stanley, Ms.Linda, Stan, Eric, Amber & Darrell! You all made me feel very welcomed as I dined alone but felt like I was family! Please keep up the great service! I would recommend to everyone I know! My entire meal was amazing. I came for especially for the French toast it was amazing because I'm a brunch & French toast girly but my grits were great my eggs and my turkey bacon! Thank you so much! My drive was worth it!
