My friends and I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant on Juneteenth, and it exceeded my expectations from start to finish. The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and perfectly balanced between upscale and comfortable. The food was outstanding. Every dish was beautifully presented, fresh, and full of flavor. The combination of excellent food, professional service, and a relaxing ambiance made for a memorable meal. We received a tour of the event space/ lounge on the bottom level and all I can say is well done! I really wanted to love this place. Parking is limited. After calling ahead to make sure we wouldn't get towed we parked across the street. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. We made reservations and were seated right away. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, just a few sips into my cocktail, I noticed a gnat floating in the drink. Another waitress immediately noticed and took it to the manager. What was most disappointing was that when the manager came over, he never acknowledged the incident or apologized. We stayed, but the experience was already ruined. We barely nibbled at our food and left disappointed. Customer service is everything, especially when paying fine-dining prices. Met a couple girlfriends here for dinner tonight. I believe one of my girlfriends made the resy and we were seated promptly when we arrived. I was really hoping this place had worked out the kinks before visiting... It wasn't busy when we arrived. Our server was welcoming and attentive. He reviewed the cocktail list with us and we placed an order for a few appetizers. For starters we ordered the spinach and crab dip, deviled eggs with salmon and chargrilled oysters. My oysters were missing something...and the temperature of them was a little cooler than what I was expecting... I only ate 1...& i think my girlfriend might have also tried one. The salmon in the deviled eggs were well seasoned, however the filling to the egg itself I felt was missing something...from one who makes these, they were definitely missing something...lol Shortly after ordering our meals, my girlfriend found a gnat in her drink. At that point, I honestly wanted to cancel my entree order. One of the waitresses who also witnessed this quickly apologized and asked if we wanted the drink remade- but that was it. When the manager on duty made his way to our table he literally just welcomed us and walked off...no apology for the bug, no offering of a comped drink...not even a smile...nothing. When my entree came out, I did take a couple bites and now I find myself running back and forth to the bathroom because the salad upset my stomach. :-/ I don't know Michael's....this place really missed the mark with this visit. I was anticipating the grand opening of this place for quite sometime. I waited a few months to give them a chance to work out the kinks before visiting. I made reservations on a Friday Night at 7. We arrived and the inside was jumping. I originally thought this was just an upscale pg county restaurant but it's a mix. The have a bar area with multiple TVs, booths with multiple TVs and somewhat of a large party area with a separate bar in the back with more TVs. On a Friday night the bar was packed. They mention on their website they have a strict dress code but that is far from the truth. Plenty people came inside with shorts, sneakers, slides, t shirts, polo shirts, cargo shorts, you name it. The business casual dress code would have been nice had it been adhered too. We were seated about 15 minutes after our reservation. We skipped appetizers and went right to the meals. My wife ordered a lavender lemon drop and salmon with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. I ordered the Cajun Pasta and lobster Mac & cheese. $175 including the tip. No this place is not cheap. The Cajun pasta was delicious. Great portion size with seafood. It was worth the price tag. Flavorful, seasoned well, different seafood inside, you name it. I enjoyed it. Piping hot like it's suppose to be. My wife enjoyed her salmon even though she wished it were bigger. The mashed potatoes she said were ok. The lobster Mac & cheese came about 20 minutes after our entree. Our waitress had to beat up the kitchen staff for the long wait time. This is a large fried lobster. Not tiny at all. Good southern mac and cheese as well. The combo went very well together. Another top notch dish. The lavender lemon drop had my wife feeling nice afterwards which was a plus. This was our second visit to Michael's and it did not disappoint. This time just drinks with two of my ride or die friends celebrating my birthday. We had just finished a heavy brunch and walked down arriving around 12pm as the crowd was just starting to come in. From a previous visit the food was equally impressive. Egg rolls, branzino, and pasta dishes served in large sharable portions were prepared well, served at the ideal temp, and seasoned to perfection. Chef's kiss! The plating and use of signature china is worth noticing. While we were not a fan of the wine selection from our past experience in May you can see it did not keep us away. We sat at the first bar and to my pleasant surprise there was another bar in the back. The large TVs sitting over the bar gave an upscale environment that had us already thinking about coming back for game day. One of the owners heard us ask about the event space and personally took us downstairs. What we walked into stopped us in our tracks. The decor of the restaurant flows right into the event space. Lighted dance floor, abundance of TVs, section couches and bars from end to end. The owner turned on the dance floor and music and we had to experience it. A few others came down and were equally wowed. With R&B nights and events they have planned Michael's is bringing the city experience to PG and Charles County without ever having to venture into DC. One honest note on timing. We arrived a little turned up from birthday celebrations while others nearby were enjoying an intimate brunch. My friend and I had been looking forward to trying Michael's ever since it was announced last fall. We considered going during the soft opening, but reservations seemed nearly impossible to get, so we decided to wait until after the grand opening in May. We finally made it in for dinner on a Saturday around 6 p.m., and it was well worth the wait. The first thing that stood out was the ambiance. The restaurant is beautifully designed with an elegant, upscale feel. Everything from the chairs and tables to the flooring and lighting worked together to create a polished atmosphere. 5 stars! The space itself is longer than it is wide, with two bars; one near the entrance and another toward the back of the restaurant. For drinks, I ordered the Lavender Lemon Drop while my friend had "The Experience", which was good and came with a cherry and lychee garnish - it was good, just not good enough for a second. He landed on their Old Fashioned and ordered two of those. In all, the cocktails were good nothing overly extravagant, but well made and enjoyable. We started with the charbroiled oysters, thanks to our server's recommendation. I had only tried oysters once before, and it was my friend's first time having cooked oysters. I was originally leaning toward the fried cauliflower or the crab and spinach dip, but our server insisted we'd regret passing on the oysters. She was absolutely right. The half dozen disappeared quickly because they were flavorful and easily one of the highlights of the entire evening. For our entrées, my friend ordered the beef short ribs with a side of broccolini and I chose the seafood pasta. I'm not usually a big pasta person, but the mussels caught my attention, and I'm glad they did. The seafood was fresh, the shrimp nice and plump, and pasta was rich without being overwhelming. Also, the portions were huge. I ended up taking most of it home. My friend's short ribs were served over mashed potatoes with gravy. He's normally not a gravy fan (or any sauce/drizzle for that matter lol) but he said the dish was flavorful and thoroughly enjoyed it. We stayed for about two hours without feeling rushed. Although there's a sign stating that tables are limited to 90 minutes, I imagine that's mainly enforced during their busiest brunch or dinner services. Before we left, my friend ordered the key lime pie to take home. He ate it the next day and said it held up well and was just as delicious. The prices are definitely on the higher end, but the quality of the food, attentive service, and overall dining experience made it feel justified. Great experience! We went here for my husband's birthday. The food was good and the service was solid. We ordered ribeyes, cauliflower bites, and really enjoyed the sides -- brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, and broccolini. The salmon deviled eggs were decent, but wished the fish wasn't fried. I would describe myself as traditional with a "splash" of flash. That said, Michael's interior is the polar opposite of traditional!! Let's just say, Gianni Versace would be proud..LOL! Black, Gold, Red color scheme with crystal lighting every where. It's definitely a sight for sore eyes. She started off at the bar because she was SUPER early and beat me for a change..SMH! She ordered a Dirty Martini but it was a little too dirty once she found a small hair in her drink. The staff was super professional and replaced it immediately. Would have been nice to get a comped drink... jus sayin :) We quickly moved from the bar to booth seating and began our dining experience. If charbroiled oysters are on the menu, I can assure you we're getting them. They were absolutely delicious! She chose the branzino for her entree and I had a hard choice between the bone-in ribeye and the lamb chops. I decided on the Ribeye and I must say, it was great. I had it cut and blackened and the flavor popped right off the plate! Her branzino was just as good although it seemed a little bony. Not sure what they can do about that? I have to give the owners kudos for properly pricing their menu. It isn't nearly as expensive as the same food if dining in DC, and yes its noticeable and appreciated. We celebrated a friend's birthday this past weekend. We did dinner for a party of 6. I would recommend a reservation! Parking isn't the easiest - we parked in a nearby lot. I was excited to try out this place. It's been the buzz for the last several months. I've seen the social media footage and reviews. Overall, the experience was just ok for me. My friend enjoyed her celebration and I'm happy for that, but there were some things that made it not worthy of a higher rating and made me not wanting to return. The place was packed. I didn't see an empty table. We got seated in a booth that was very hard to get into. The table was very high and awkward. We ended up waiting about 15 minutes before our server come over to us. They seem to be short staffed. She took our orders, including drinks, appetizers and our meals. The drinks took some time to come out. I had the lavender lemon drop and didn't love it - didn't seem well balanced and just tasted strong and needed to be mixed better. My friend asked for a wine list and there isn't one so the server just rambled off names of some wines. The menus were tattered and worn looking and hard to read the items. Perhaps laminated menus would be better or QR codes. I found the menu somewhat limited as far as options. The entrees don't really come with sides and you will have to order them separately. They have their name logo on their wine glasses and dishes. I thought that was a nice touch. The food took awhile and it didn't all come out at the same time. I got the beef short ribs which were a generous portion, but were a tad on the salty side. The mashed potatoes were not well flavored. A few others in our party got the same dish and also commented about the saltiness. The birthday girl ordered the ribeye medium well and it came out well done. There is a sign at the hostess desk and other places throughout stating a 90 minute limit per seating. Weird, but ok. We weren't forced out within that time because that would have been unfair when things didn't come out in a timely fashion. Still felt off putting to me. The decor is nice, but it didn't quite feel "upscale" to me. The design and layout felt very cramped with some many booths and tables side by side. There's not much space to even walk around comfortably. The attire is whatever you want. I saw some dressed up and some very very casual. There's automatic gratuity! Be mindful of that. I inquired about seeing their banquet hall downstairs and I was told by more than one staff member that they'll take me down for a peek, although an event was going on. We started to walk down and then the sheriff (yes, they had a sheriff there) yelled at me and told me I'm not allowed to go down there. I was not going on my own, but yeah. I can't give any info on that space. Oh well! I'm in no hurry to return anytime soon. I hope they work on fixing some issues, but overall, it wasn't a "fine dining" experience for me. read more

After reading several good reviews and getting a recommendation from my neighbor, we decided to try Michael's on Main Street in Upper Marlboro. I am so glad we did. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you've been transported somewhere far outside of Prince George's County. The decor is beautiful. Gold accents, flowers everywhere, elegant lighting, and a great atmosphere. It feels upscale without feeling stuffy. One thing I really appreciated was the menu. It wasn't pages and pages long. There were enough options to make choosing difficult, but not so many that it felt overwhelming. It gave me the impression that they focus on doing a smaller number of dishes really well, and based on our experience, that's exactly what they do. We started with the crab dip, steak egg rolls, and salmon deviled eggs. Every single appetizer was delicious. The crab dip was especially memorable. The cheese was perfectly melted, the crab was plentiful, and everything was cooked just right. I also loved that it was served with fresh tortilla chips instead of bread chips. That was a pleasant surprise and, in my opinion, the perfect choice because they paired so well with the dip. The steak egg rolls and salmon deviled eggs were equally delicious. For our entrees, we ordered the seafood pasta and the lamb chops. The lamb chops were cooked a perfect medium just as requested. The sauce was incredible. We knew it would be brushed on, but whoever brushed it on did so with love because there wasn't a single bite that didn't have that amazing flavor. The seafood pasta was equally impressive. You could actually see the seafood. This wasn't a plate of noodles with a few pieces of seafood hidden throughout. There were shrimp, mussels, crab, and plenty of it. Every bite had seafood in it. We kept it simple with water and appreciated having the option of tap, still, or sparkling. They also offer Coca-Cola products and a full bar. What really stood out to me, though, was the service. Our server, Josiah, was amazing. Thank you, thank you, thank you. He was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and made us feel welcome from start to finish. What impressed me even more was how the entire staff worked together. We never had to sit and wait because our server was helping another table. Multiple staff members checked on us throughout the evening. If someone walked by and noticed a need, they stepped in to help. That level of teamwork is rare and made the whole experience feel seamless. Michael's is definitely a place you go when you want to impress someone, celebrate something special, or simply enjoy a fantastic meal. We need more restaurants like this in Prince George's County. We decided to drive to this spot to see if they were officially open. We were seated immediately. The decor isn't my taste, but someone put a great deal of work into the decor. It's pretty gaudy and reminds me of an old school 80s vibe. Service was friendly and fast. The food was served extremely fast- freaked me out. When we asked the server if they had different pours for wine (6oz, 9oz, etc) he was very confused. He was also confused when we asked for the fish blackened not realizing that blackened is just a seasoning preference. My husband ordered the whole branzino w/o lemon butter- blackened instead. The fish had way too much blackening seasoning. The menu was very limited for the type of food I like. I decided to simply try to salmon deviled eggs. They were different, but okay. We ordered still water -- a 12 fluid oz bottle was $6. CRAZY! The automatic gratuity being included without notice or awareness was crazy. I almost crossed it out just because of principle, but decided to let it go. The menus were beaten up and hard to see due to lack of lighting. There is a very small parking lot and we lucked up as someone was coming out as we were pulling in. When we were about to leave we both decided that we were okay not returning. Nothing really stood out. But then....we were stopped on the way out by the owner (woman-- forgot her name unfortunately). She was soooo friendly! She told us the story behind the restaurant's name (her late son's name is Michael). She told us about employing his friends. She told us about how she gives back and works within the community. This conversation was the best part of the entire meal because you can tell she really cares - to come out of retirement and build something to honor her son's legacy. Admirable! Everything was lovely. The food was delicious, the decor impeccable, the server was friendly, quick, and courteous. The room was busy, but we never felt rushed. The owner/family was there making the rounds, welcoming guests, and ensuring everyone was taken care of. They spent time at each table. They were all so friendly, authentic and genuinely glad to have us there. THE ONLY ISSUE was the "large group" service charge of 20% (we were a group of 7), on top of the 18% gratuity. They were gracious enough to show me the downstairs! Whoa! This place is NICEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! My friend and I decided to try this place out based on some posts from Instagram. We decided to go mid week when there wouldn't be a crowd. While it wasn't packed, it was pretty lively for a Wednesday. The decor was nice for photos. The drinks were great! The food was good, I just wished that there was more for the price. I got the lamb chops and broccolini and my friend got the branzino and crab fries. The sides are al a carte, which is fine. I just wished that they were equally proportionate. My side was just enough for me, but my friend's side was enough for two. We met one for the owners and she gave us a tour. The banquet hall would be a great place for private events. We recently visited Michael's in Upper Marlboro, and overall, it was a positive experience. The restaurant has a beautiful décor with a warm, inviting ambiance that makes it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. The staff and the manager on duty were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The biggest challenge during our visit was the service. It was extremely slow, and there was quite a wait for our food. However, the manager was very attentive and apologized for the delay, even offering us a complimentary drink, which was a thoughtful gesture and much appreciated. One thing that stood out was hearing the manager actively coaching the staff throughout the evening. We overheard reminders to perform quality checks on every dish before it left the kitchen and to keep customers informed when the kitchen was backed up. That level of leadership and attention to customer service was encouraging to see. Since the restaurant only opened in May, it's understandable that they're still working through a few growing pains. They seem committed to providing a great dining experience, and I believe they'll continue to improve as they settle into their rhythm. I visited Michaels with high hopes, but the experience didn't quite come together the way it should for the price point. The décor is flashy -- some may love it, but for me it felt a bit too gaudy. The branded plates were actually a standout detail and added a nice touch of personality to the table. Service was where things really fell short. Our server forgot about us multiple times, from the non‑alcoholic drinks that arrived super late. To the long wait just to get the check. The food came out in staggered intervals, with at least a 15 minute gap between plates. When the dishes finally did arrive, they were hot, but the seasoning was extremely underwhelming. My salad was extremely bland, and the chicken entree came with nothing but a flower garnish no sides, no balance, just the entree sitting alone on the bowl. The gratuity being added automatically wasn't the issue; the problem was not knowing about it until after paying. Had I known, I wouldn't have added an additional tip. The total bill was surprisingly high for what we received. I don't mind paying for quality, but the value simply wasn't there. I genuinely want Black-owned establishments to thrive, but part of that is giving honest feedback. Michaels has potential, but the service, seasoning, and overall execution need improvement to match the prices they're charging. I found myself wondering why there are so many reviews that aren't recommended for this spot? I didn't know what I was going to encounter whenever I came, and I honestly didn't know when I was going to come through because the weekly reservation links are somewhat difficult to come by. But I stumbled upon it, I made a reservation for myself, and then I decided to visit. I was lucky enough to get a parallel meter at spot right outside of the building. Otherwise, I would have parked near the swamp area or near the courthouse. Just from the outside, you know you are in for a treat. The building looks so regal. When you step inside, they play into the ever trendy viny walls, but there are a lot of beautiful roses too! It is obvious what their intended color scheme is, and it's beautiful. I didn't get to check out the other levels, but it was stunning from ceiling to floor. I checked in with the hostess, and since I was by myself, she asked if I wanted to sit at the bar, and I was fine with that. My spot was ready within 5 minutes. I got seated and was pleased by how beautiful the bar space was. And the dining room was full and popping! I received several menus from the bartender. Mind you, the bar was full and there was only one bartender. For 15 people, I feel like he could have used some help. One menu advertised a drink of the week, which was this pear drink that looked amazing. But they were out of the ingredients for it. So I decide to stick to water and behave, haha. I was struggling a lot of options for food, but settled on the seafood omelette and grits. That omelette was hefty, and the grits were flavor deliciously. I was impressed by how wonderful everything was, and for $25 I was not disappointed. Despite how full the restaurant was, everything did not take long either. It took a while to get my check, but that was really it. I would love to return, but I'll prefer to go at a time when it's quieter, just for my own preference. Went to Michael's with a group of about 11 friends. To start, the food was good; however, it felt overpriced for what you receive. Most items are à la carte. For example, a steak is around $50, which is reasonable for a quality cut, but the one served initially was very thin. After my friend sent it back, they corrected it with what appeared to be the proper ribeye. Side dishes range from $12-$15, and the portions are quite small. The lobster mac and cheese was $30 and consisted of a small serving of macaroni topped with a piece of fried lobster. In my experience, lobster mac is usually prepared together rather than served this way. Regarding service, it was quite slow. It took about 20 minutes to receive drinks and another 15 minutes just to get water. I'm not trying to be negative--just sharing an honest account of the experience. The restaurant also could not fully accommodate our party since the downstairs was closed. As a result, our group was split, and the four of us seated separately were still charged a 22% service fee, which didn't feel appropriate. The downstairs area looks very nice, especially with the bar, and it would have been great to enjoy the full experience with the entire group. I understand the restaurant is new, and this feedback is meant to help set expectations. I wish the family success--it's great to have another dining option in Upper Marlboro. read more

Last minute date night (Sat., 12/27/25) with one other couple. Busy holiday season so the rest of our crew were either traveling or being homebodies with visiting family. We had perfect service (shout out to Brittany); and pretty decent food and drinks. My friend enjoyed her lavender lemon drop but I did not enjoy my Cosmo (had a jalapeño aftertaste). The lamb chops were the BEST thing ordered tonight, followed by the seafood linguine alfredo and then the steak/cheese eggroll appetizer ... definitely made up for the salmon bite deviled eggs (the eggs tasted old). The branzino was decent (needed a lil salt) and the mashed potatoes were a lil dry but not a deal breaker. The restaurant is HUGE and stunning (multiple bars, ornate chandeliers, flooring, seating, etc.) ... a bit intense (personally tired of flower and grass accent walls) but gorgeous, nonetheless. Think Franklin Saint from Snowfall or Ghost from Power ... dark, flashy opulence. MAKE SURE you ask for a tour of the banquet area! Parking may pose an issue as they gain popularity. Their dedicated lot could not accommodate tonight's crowd and I can see the lot across from 7-11 becoming stricter about metered parking in the near future butttt I declare the experience of dining here and supporting this black owned restaurant worth the effort. "I wanted it to be the event of the century." My wife was turning 65, and while we're still young at heart, I wanted her to have the experience of a lifetime. Planning from Miami wasn't easy, so I needed a venue that could handle the details with excellence. A trusted friend--part of my planning committee--highly recommended Michael's Restaurant through her party planner. The only catch? It wasn't even fully open yet. She also introduced me to Stan, the owner and visionary behind Michael's. He was personable, accommodating, and went above and beyond in ways I didn't expect. Every last-minute request we had? Mildred handled it seamlessly. By Friday, everything was set--except I still had one concern: the food. On the day of the event, I arrived at noon and was warmly welcomed by Mildred and her team. To my surprise, I met Stan's parents, who were carefully preparing additional centerpieces that perfectly complemented our design. That moment reassured me--this wasn't just a business; it was a family operation that truly cared. From that point on, I knew we were in good hands. The staff, though young, displayed a level of professionalism, warmth, and teamwork well beyond their years. They moved as one cohesive unit. Watching Mildred lead the team was like watching a world-class conductor--precise, calm, and in complete control. As guests began arriving, everything flowed flawlessly. Came in for a bridal party. The decor is nice. The staff was super friendly. Or server Brit was great! Everything came out correct. While slower than I like the food was good. We were able to see the down stairs and it's a great vibe! Parking is tricky is why I took a star of you can luck up on street parking that's great but it is limited. This was my 2nd experience. I went for my birthday in January for brunch and yesterday for dinner for my neice and daughter's high school graduation. Both times were great experiencs. I really appreciate how they accommodated my large parties both times. The French Toast at brunch was simply amazing. Dinner was great, also. Everyone was raving about the seafood pasta. I enjoyed the crab cake, cauliflower, and crab and spinach dip. My guest enjoyed the lamp chops and steak and cheese egg rolls, too. The Graduates loved the decor. Our waitress was very attentive. The management came over to our group to welcome us and tell us more about the restaurant and what else they had to offer. They took us on a tour of the facility which has a wonderful area for private parties which includes a dance floor. I had the catfish and grits and it was so good. I finally tried this nice family owed business. I love family owed restaurants. I wish there were more in Prince George's County. These folks are so nice ! Several came to check in with us at the table one by one. I learned that "Michael" passed away 25 years ago, I met his younger brother. The waitress Lulu was so professional. She knew the menu well and she answered our questions. The food was tasty. I enjoyed the lamb chops. I had the "Tequila Mockingbird" speciality drink. I also had the chocolate mouse cake. This was just the soft opening for this new restaurant. It's very large. It looks like 2 store fronts together. They have two separate bars. My only criticism is they bought the food out before the drink. I didn't feel rushed. There was a sign up front stating there is a 90 minute limit. I am sure we were there longer. There was parking up front but it didn't seem legal so we parked across the street about a block away. It was the county court parking lot which was legal. I didn't risk being towed even though I had to walk a few steps. My second criticism is I wish they had bread. Biscuits with honey would have been a nice touch. The deco was nice it reminded me of a dining car on the train. Loved the roses. read more

The waitress Tiera was our server and she was PHENOMENAL.. It was our first time and Tiera was very honest about what she liked and hadn't tried.. I am an Aries and she is too. I don't follow HORROR scopes but WE Aries tell the TRUTH.. anyway, the food was delicious we had the seafood pasta, cauliflower bites and mango habanero wings.. There was a party going on which I was happy to hear that they could still serve food at the same time. We have already told a few people and we will be back to try the lobster and branzino.
