I was in the store this morning with my one-year-old son doing Christmas shopping. Most employees were friendly and helpful. An employee stationed at the balloon machine near the front repeatedly inflated Christmas balloons even though no customers were purchasing balloons at that time. The noise was extremely loud and frightened my son -- he cried every time the machine was used. I said out loud several times that the noise was loud and upsetting him, but they continued anyway. It felt unnecessary in that moment and showed a lack of awareness or consideration for a distressed toddler nearby. I understand stores are busy during the holidays, but this situation could have been handled more thoughtfully. read more

I absolutely love Michaels as a store. In fact, when I first got apps on my phone, the very first store I downloaded the app for was Michaels. I would find reasons to stop by the Village Crossroads location over the years quite often, and when I became an educator, I started receiving the educator/teacher discount. I used to find all of the associates were so friendly and even more helpful. Unfortunately, the products are not as refilled as often nowadays, there isn't as large an assortment of items, and the customer service can use some work. The last several times I have gone in to find a specific item, that item has been out of stock whether it was a regular item or a seasonal item. Today, when I stopped by to look for an item that was listed as being carried by the store, I couldn't find an associate in the store except by the checkout counters. When I went up to an associate who was available, she said she didn't know about the item and directed me to a general area and told me if I didn't see it, they probably didn't have it. She didn't check in the system or offer to walk me over to the area to check even though the store wasn't busy. She did ask a nearby associate, who just shrugged her shoulders to indicate she didn't know either. I didn't know if this was a training or motivation issue, but I gave up and decided to go online when I got home after purchasing a few other items. I found the item I was looking for on the Michaels website. It appeared to be in stock at this very store. I placed a pick-up order, and surprisingly, I received an e-mail saying that the order was ready for pick-up. I left home and headed back to the store. Right when I arrived to the parking lot, I received a cancellation notice from the store saying it was not in stock. I am disappointed in how disorganized the store was to say it was in stock and ready for pickup and then canceling the order due to the item not being in stock. I doubt I will try asking for customer service help or ordering online again in the near future. On the other hand, this is a large store with a lot of items that may or may not be in stock. If items are in stock, I can use the coupons I see readily available and save quite a bit. As someone who likes crafts and baking, Michaels is great!! I just wish this store was as good as it once was. The Village Crossroads location of Michaels is open weekdays from 9 AM to 10 PM, Saturday from 8 AM to 10 PM, and Sunday from 9 AM to 9 PM. I purchased a shadowbox that was wrapped and placed into my car by one of the employees a few days ago. When I got home and unwrapped it, I saw there was a crack in the glass. I thought I disliked shopping at Joann's but Michael's at PV Mall has them beat! Simple, I wanted some 100% cotton yarn. Their selection is VERY poor; an extremely small selection, maybe 8-10 to choose from. So I went to ask a question from a salesperson, I wandered the entire store and didn't see a single employee. Ok, I'll just ask the cashier. NO ONE at the cashier, only self service registers. If I was a dishonest person, I could have walked out with an armload of merchandise. This location is a standard one for the chain and has plenty of options for arts, crafts, home decor that is already prepped, and fun kid activities. It was clean and relatively well organized considering the recent holiday season and the changing of the merchandise from holiday to Valentine's Day / Spring. My only real complaint with the chain is the lack of staff availble to answer question or give advice while shopping. Normally the only workers you will see are at the frame counter in the back or the cashier at the front. Both of these employees are almost always handling a line of some kind and are unable to answer anything unless you wait in line to ask it. This location is no exception to this rule - there were two workers that we saw in the store - both happened to be cashiers this go around and both had a line. Overall: B I love the variety of options - I feel that they are less expensive than other crafts stores locally, but if you don't know where something is, or you need advice on a project - you're on your own. read more

I'm not going to lie, I'm a little annoyed that they cancelled my pickup order even though they claimed to have many in stock of my item. I then thought maybe their system was messed up and they didn't have said item and we proceeded to pick up another order from this location that my fiance had placed. When we arrive, first thing I see is multiples of the items I ordered? I'm not sure what enticed them to cancel my order but I lost out on my 40% coupon and I refuse to pay full price for the item that they claimed they didn't have. Was it laziness? I sure hope not because it's not that busy of a Michaels. There were plenty of other pickup orders ready as well so again, not sure why they cancelled mine. The only reason I could think of is my name. I honestly don't usually care about 'Karen' jokes because I don't identify with the stereotype but I've noticed more and more people cancelling my pickup orders and I'm very sad to say, I was hoping Michaels would never be one of them. I still love Michaels and will continue to frequent them but this location left a bad taste in my mouth. The staff is always helpful, especially Belinda. She's amazing... though I didn't see her today. Michael's has made some pretty aggressive anti-shoplifting changes that are kind of scary. Cameras everywhere. . I was concerned with returning items to the correct spot for fear they might think I still have it. Ugh!!! They've also increased staffing. I didn't mind the staffing increase... I had stuff to find. For me, it was overkill, but they have their reasons. Aside from that, I like this location. I was really unsure about how I wanted to ask my best friends to be my bridesmaids, therefore, kept putting it off. I zipped into Michael's on a Sunday afternoon to get some event supplies and what did I find? The most PERFECT photo boxes that matched the theme of my wedding! At that moment my brain went into creative mode! The boxes are literally everything that I wanted and more. The best part? The photo boxes were under $2 each, the flowers were 60% off, the chalkboard letters were 50% off, frames were $1.50 and the black and white striped ribbon was also 50% off! Seriously? Friendly staff. But so incompetent. I only wanted a matt with no cutouts and a piece of non-glare glass. I was told the matt I wanted would be a special order and take 1-2 weeks to get. I was presented with another one that was in stock and was told my whole order could be done by the next day. I said alright. It took me about 2 minutes to find what I wanted. It took the young lady 38 minutes to write up my order. When she gave me my pre-paid receipt, nothing on it was right but she said not to worry as she had made notes. She would call the next day when ready. As you can guess, no call. 2 days later I stopped by. No one could find my work order...and no one seemed to care. I called 2 days later and the same young lady said she would have it done later that day. She did and called me it was ready for pickup. I stopped by the next morning. They couldn't find my stuff for 18 minutes. Then they found the glass...then the matt. When I got home, I realized the matt was dirty and the glass was just regular glass and not the non-glare I had ordered and paid for. I gave up and will never returned there or any other Michaels for any custom work. read more

I came in after work to pick up a few candles. I headed towards the check out line and noticed 3 ladies behind their registers. Only one of them was checking out a customer. I was waiting for one of them to say they could ring me up but they didn't and only continued to engage in conversation with one another. The employee with the only customer finally finished up so I proceeded to her register and the lady said she wasn't open although she had just finished ringing someone up she pointed to her coworker across from her and said she would have to take me so I walked over to her and she also said she wasn't open and directed me to the third employee behind the register. I was agitated at this point and asked who was really open as they were all standing behind cash registers. The 3rd lady ended up saying she wasn't ready either and that the second lady would have to "just take me real quick". Not sure if it was a race thing but you work for the company. You can't pick and choose who your customer will be or what they will be purchasing. But you can chose your place of employment. I worked at the Glendale location many years ago and I loved it there I know we weren't rude to our customers. The only reason. I continue coming to Michaels is because I met an amazing friend working at Michaels and he recently passed away. Shopping at Michaels reminds me of the shifts we worked together and all the fun we had working there. It's sad that workers ended up making it a bad experience. Lotsa reasons: silk flowers (so, I give up on real blooms - they just die - I plant these baby's instead - and they last - and you know what? They don't need water, they don't wilt, no bugs, no weeds.) Wrapping paper. Photo Albums. Wedding favors. Party Give-aways. Pots. Baskets. Kids Crafts. Spray Paint. Frames. And of course, this is a crafters heaven.... Maybe I need a real hobby - and when I do, this would be the place. (until then, it works for the odds and ends around the house projects). Oh, don't expect anything fancy here, or finding easy help - assistance is pretty rare, so you are pretty much on your own in your hunt for your art project. Michael's is my favorite place to have things framed. The selection of frames is huge. They have a good selection of acid free papers and lots of choices for cuts and bevels as well. Their prices are reasonable, even more reasonable if you wait for their half off framing coupons that appear in the newspaper at least twice a month. I have had no less than 50 lithos, photos, paintings and such framed by Michael's and they have never damaged anything or caused me worry over any of them. They are not the quickest, but they have work done when they say it will be done. read more

The cashier reluctantly rang it up for $10.99, but refused to honor the 40% off coupon. The manager said that their system could not do that, since they had to override/correct the price. This particular location is a bit older so the flooring & fixtures are worn, but they generally have well-stocked shelves & variety of prices. The reason I am SUPER IMPRESSED with them today is the absolute efficiency of the check-out process in the middle of Sunday afternoon less than 2 weeks before Christmas! The store was full of customers & I still saw numerous employees out on the floor assisting. When we got ready to check out I saw a crazy-long line & expected to be there a while. Much to my surprise they had every single register open & the newly revamped register area flowed perfectly. They now have a "que" system so you all form 1 line & the front customer goes to first available cashier. No more guessing which lane will move faster or getting stuck behind a tedious customer. The leadership team gets a big gold star for the foresight to have plenty of staff on hand these days & hats off to the cashiers who did everything possible to help check customers quickly & with a smile! read more

I have shopped at this Michael's many times over the years and never had any issues but the last few times I shopped there the employees have not been very friendly but today was the worst. I stood in line for approximately 10 minutes because they were having a special coupon sale of 20% off your entire purchase. I had two packets of paint brushes along with the rest of my purchase. One pack of paint brushes was on a sale rack but the price was not marked so when I got to the clerk, Marina, I asked her to check the price of the paintbrushes from the sale rack and she told me she was too busy to do a price check. She said that is why the store has two self check price scanners on the aisles so clerks don't have to do price checks and hold up the line. I told her it will literally take a second to check one price and she said she will do it this time. Then she of course was slow as molasses at checking out and bagging because she was talking to the other clerks and worried about something one of the other clerks needed. She then handed me scissors and I asked what they were for and she told me to cut out my coupon to save time and when I said okay she rudely stated, "you know, the coupon for 20% off and the reason everyone is here". My 13 year old daughter was with me and she could not even believe our experience. No more shopping at Michael's for us !! We will shop JoAnn's where they are friendly and helpful! read more

They offer a great selection of products for all your arts and craft needs. Additionally, the location had some great decorations for the upcoming fall holidays. The restroom was fairly clean and the Arts and Crafts classroom was clean and well maintained. It was a bit difficult to find someone to help us when we had a few questions, but they were friendly when we eventually bumped into one of the staff members. In the establishments defense, we did not go out of our way to get help and just wandered until we found someone. It is easy to lose track of time in the story as there is so much cool stuff to look at. We are preparing for a wedding and they had a few aisles dedicated to those types of events which made it easy to find what we needed. The facility is clean and well lit. We will return to this location in the future when we have the need for arts and crafts supplies. read more
