Michaels is usually a fun place to shop, and I always leave with more items than I planned to or came for, but this store was very different. The store looked well organized for the most part and they did not seem to be understaffed in any way. There were many employees around, but not one of them greeted us or even looked at us as we passed them. I even went into the picture frame area because I had a photo print that I was thinking about having matted and framed, but the gentleman behind the counter was laser focused on his computer screen, he did not even bother to look up. I looked around at the merchandise in this area for a bit longer and then proceeded to browse other areas, where we also encountered more employees who were too busy (not helping others) to look in our direction or acknowledge us. The planner that I came for was no where to be found even though the online information told me that it was in stock at this location(it even told us which aisle). I did not bother to approach any of the employees to ask for anything because they all seemed pretty unapproachable, and the opposite of friendly or ready to assist. I found a different planner that I felt would suffice. My daughter found a bunch of yarn skeins that she liked for a crochet project, and then we made our way to check out. The woman who was checking us out sarcastically and abruptly stated "Ya got a planner, now your life's gonna be perfectly organized" as she scanned it and placed it in a bag. She was bitter about something, and that was obvious, but why would she bring that to work? I awkwardly attempted to laugh, my daughter pinched me, and then I just thanked her and we left. We should have spent at least double what we spent, but nobody wanted to help us spend our money. It's too bad. I don't know why, but it seems that this Michaels has a dark cloud over it or something, because the folks who work here absolutely hate their jobs and it really shows. read more

Watch for sales, use coupons etc. They occasionally have e online deals that drive up pickup cou t for... My fave find: Ashland jar candles. This place is awfully incorrectly priced and despite letting the cashier know what you see and showing pictures. Cashier Haley? Or whatever her rude non customer self is, does not understand the sales! She talks down to you like you are bothered to her and in her eyes she is right about everything. As if nobody has ever shopped at Michael's before or worked in retail. I picked up floral from this area and they came original price. I said I bought these at other michaels and they were on sale! She said oh they must have honored you the price, are you a teacher or some kind of discount they gave you. I said no I'm not a teacher but I did enter my phone number as a Michaels member and got 40% on my other floral. WHY AM I EVEN ARGUING WITH AN EMPLOYEE??! Sad to say I spent a lot here but I sure won't be coming back. Her customer service ticked me off and people like that need customer service training. I did not catch names of the two people that "helped" me, unfortunately for me - fortunately for them. Did not seem like they wanted to do their job and got annoyed at me for even calling in the first place. I get that your job might suck but I didn't call you on your personal phone to talk about my Michael's order. I was in the store yesterday to return a few items, with receipts, they could not find items in my receipt, and eventually supervisor came and said that I didn't pay for them, I was so embarrassed and frustrated , came home and checked everything I bought and I noticed their incompetent cashier scanned few items twice and left some out And this all comes from poor customer service and zero training , before you put these people behind the register that accused the customer of stealing Make sure they know how to scan the items one by one and pay more attention to their duties instead of standing there miserable and waiting for their time to clock out and go home. read more

So I have always been a fan of Micheal's but I took my kids to a art class in which they made friendship bracelets and the lady running it was super rude to me. Not sure what her problem was. So she kept offering to the other parents to make multiple bracelets. After making one I asked for another string to make a 2nd one and she she gave me this disgusted look and said" you already made a few!" When I had only made 1. then she kept announcing next weekend craft to certain parents making eye contact with them and showing them them the flyer. She never directed the announcement to me or my kids. It was very apparent she had an issue with me. After That awkward encounter I don't wanna go back Micheal's. I have spent hundreds of dollars on acrylic paints, brushes, and canvases, not mention all the other art supplies I buy along with decor. From now on I will be ONLY going to hobby lobby where they include EVERY ONE. Micheal's find someone with better customer service skills to run your craft events because the gal with glasses that had the friends ship bracelets came off unapproachable. Rude and unhelpful employees!!! There was literally no one in the store except a bunch of employees. Not a single employee greeted me nor asked if I needed any help. The prices were not marked on most of the merchandise. There were signs all over that said "Ashland" silk flower products were 50% off, and I picked up about 10 silk flower items marked "Ashland" and went to the checkout. One cashier (and No customers) was standing there and asked me if I was paying with a card. When I said yes, she told me to use the self checkout!!! How lazy can you be??! So when she started ringing up my items, absolutely none were 50% off. I told her that there were signs all over stating the 50% off these items and she said, "Oh, not THESE items." The total was nearly $70. I said, "Forget it, I'll go elsewhere"! What a waste of time shopping at this store. I went to the dollar store and bought 2 dozen silk flower stems that are actually nicer than what Michael's was selling. My bill was $26. No wonder the store was empty. Boo! read more

Cake decorating, scrapbooking and crafting, oh my! Michaels carries products for all of these hobbies and more. I often shop at Michaels for cake decorating supplies. The prices are reasonable and they ALWAYS have coupons (usually 40% off an item). Occasionally you will find the valuable 50% off coupon which I like to use on big ticket items. The last time I had such a coupon, I used it on the Ultimate Decorating Kit from Wilton. Pre-discount, this item would have cost $199.00 plus tax. Savings of $100.00? Yes please! I wish I was more of a crafty person. I would totally buy materials to craft something, like a jewelry box per say. But seriously, Michaels is legit. Great deals and products. Needed to return a couple things at Micheal's but was drawn in at how much stuff they had in stock. They have a lot of items in stock that aren't in stock at my local Micheal's so I had to browse around. The staff are very friendly and the line didn't take long at all to check out. I highly recommend downloading the Michael's app before you shop here. The app tells you what's on sale and gives you coupons. ALWAYS use a coupon at Michael's!! Such a great place for crafts and hobbies. I'm always able to find some cool home decor ideas. Anytime my kids have a school project that requires some art supplies this is a great place to go. They can be a bit pricey but they are always having huge sales like 40% off a lot of items. The store is not too big and always smells like cinnamon. My last visit I had three paintings custom framed. They had a huge selection of frames to choose from and the price was a lot better than other stores. NEVER trust Michael's with your money! In Dec. a family member purchased a Cricut cutting machine for my Christmas/birthday gift. She thought it was a die cutter with push button controls but she purchased the wrong item. When I opened her gift I pointed out that it wasn't a die cutter but a Cricut, which I had no need for. So, she promptly returned it, well within the return period. She was given a gift card for the almost $200 item (the Cricut) and she brought it to me. I tucked the almost $200 gift card away excited that I would have it to spend at a future date. Fast forward a couple of months... I went on the Michael's website to look at Easter items. Before I placed my online order I checked my balance. THE GIFT CARD BALANCE WAS $12, NOT THE ALMOST $200 MICHAEL'S WAS SUPPOSED TO REFUND ME!!! I spent, literally MONTHs trying to get their error corrected and get the full amount they owed me refunded back to me. I went up thru the corporate office with all the documentation necessary to prove Michaels had cheated me. Long story short, MICHAEL'S REFUSED TO GIVE ME BACK MY FULL REFUND AND CHEATED ME OUT OF CLOSE TO $200! I told the store manager that I wanted to see security tape from the return because he claimed the huge Cricut hadn't been returned. He refused to show me the security tape, which would have concretely proved the Cricut was returned and we were cheated out of our full refund. TO THIS DAY THEY WILL NOT RIGHT THEIR WRONG. I WAS CHEATED OUT OF ALMOST $200 ON MY RETURN. I WILL NEVER SHOP MICHAEL'S AGAIN AND CAUTION OTHERS ABOUT CHECKING GIFT CARD REFUNDS ISSUED BY MICHAELS. This difficult time is stressful for everyone, and if I had written this review yesterday it would have been about a rude and lazy employee with a bad attitude. Thankfully, today was better. I was having a difficult time finding what I needed online for curbside pickup. After once again ordering something that looked right but (when I received it) wasn't, I was disappointed and asked to speak to Ryan on the phone. I explained to him what my issue was and what I was truly looking for. After a couple of minutes on hold, he told me he thought he had the right thing. He then brought it out to my car, along with other types of the same item, so that I could choose correctly. What a sweet thing to do! It was a marked contrast to my experience yesterday while picking up an order from one of his employees who had a bad attitude. I was able to re-order through the website while Ryan stood patiently by my car, and he assured me he would have it ready for curbside pickup as soon as his system allowed. I asked 4 people to help me. I was there around 9 am and there were very few people in the store. I needed supplies to make a shirt for my daughters 100 day of class. All I got from them was go to Aile 14 and 15, try aisle 42 in kids. I asked mutiple people how to affix the gems to the shirt. They said aisle 14 you should find all the stuff -so I found fabric glue. Now I've made a shirt and as I pull it away from the backing the gems are popping off because they adhered to the backing. I used the wrong stuff is all I can think. So unhelpful Michaels. I even said what I was doing, that I needed help and an understanding of how to do it. 2-4 didn't know where the items I was looking for even were located. Is this typical of Michaels? Maybe Hobby Lobby is where I should try next time. read more

This is one of the nicer Michael's. It is large and filled with gotta love/hate items. So much variety in this store that it literally will suck the dough right out of my wallet. They always have a large selection of craft items to fill up my time. If i am in the mood for flower arranging, scrapbooking, painting, collaging, this is the place I go to. :) Add a little art in your life and drop by a Michael's today. I love this store! This is just a giant place full of baubles and trinkets for the crafters out there. I wanted to make a bracelet for my sister's birthday and was able to get quick, friendly help and some great beads for cheap. There was actually a girl transferred there from another store for the day and she didn't know where she was going but offered to help me out. I asked her for an opinion on my project, she was honest and helpful, which I really appreciated. I love the staff here, they seem genuinely nice and willing to help... and unfortunately that is sometimes rare in Modesto! read more

I stopped to going to Michael's as soon as Hobby Lobby opened. I personally feel that they are extremely overpriced. I would pretty much avoid this store at all costs, I would save so much more online. Every once in awhile I would have to make an unfortunate trip into the store though. I would only ever go in to buy 1 thing and on two occasions I was in line for 27 minutes!! Oh my gosh, I thought I would explode. This craft store has me at some what of a lose because of the poor customer service. It isn't that they are not covered staff wise, they are just INCREDIBLY slow. I came in only wanting a small bouquet of silk flowers and I went into the line, mind you this is only at 10am-not a very busy time. There were 4 girls on cash registers and still there was a line that was flooding the rows of flowers to the point that I couldn't even get to them all without asking someone to move because of the slow pace. The quality of products are wonderful but the lack of customer service and speed is unfortunate hence my inability to give them anything higher than three stars. read more

I really do love Michaels but they are really overpriced. Now that Hobby Lobby is in town, it only makes sense to take a longer drive over to McHenry to get all the stuff I need at a bigger discount. They do however always have coupons and have the Martha Stewart product line which is cute and trendy. Staff are generally helpful... just not in the budget to be spending a fortune on DIY. I love michaels I'm there around 2-4 times a week but recently i have had SEVERAL experiences with the cashier Hether she is always tremendously rude and in a bad mood. She will make you feel like you are not welcome in that store. If you want to experience horrible customer service ask for heather. She has a terrible attitude and will make you feel uncomfortable your whole transaction. Rude! Wish they weren't about the only craft game in town. The workers at this location are rude, particularly the men. Nobody gives one you- know- what about helping you unless you are buying custom framing. The man behind the framing counter was particularly rude. He was helping another customer with a huge blueprint on one side of the counter, and had a giant picture sitting on the other side. No place at all to set anything to see if my picture would fit in the frame I was going to buy. When I asked for a small workspace, he responded that the restrooms were for customers. WTF? Also, they don't carry mounting tape (for pictures to mats), they use it in back, but they don't sell it. How dumb is that? And last trip, got there at 8:45 to buy one (self serve) frame, and they must have told me 5 times they were closing in 12 minutes, 11 minutes, 9 minutes....I could not relax and ended up buying not what I really wanted. Michaels and I have begun sort of a craft love affair. I'm working on tons of wedding stuff, and have been in here pretty often. The stock is usually pretty good. The coupons, are great! Seriously 50% off, you can't beat that. My complaint is the staff. As Miss E said they are generally un-willing to help. They're often clueless, and not the friendliest bunch. Usually I drag the fiance around aisle by aisle trying to find what we need. Ugh, I guess that's the price I have to pay half priced items! FYI plan on spending a bit of time in line. Amazing customer service! I just moved to the area from the east Bay Area and the difference in service is a wow factor. I was greeted multiple times, when I needed to ask a question about navigating my new local Michael's I found an employee in less than a minute, who told me the isle to go to and that an employee would be waiting for me when I get there. Sure enough there was an employee there in the next isle finishing up another customer and looking for me. She helped me find the kids crafts I was looking for and talked about the products, they were plastic beads for kids- AND she still made me feel important. Even chatted for a sec about my kids and then was on to the next. I'm so shocked at how considerate people are here. I've never had this service at any box style retailer.
