I used to like Michael's but their selection has gone down and experienced rude customer service at checkout.

I used to adore Michael's but more and more I seem to find it less appealing due to their lack of service, personality and decent prices. We cane in to look at some of their holiday decor but didn't find anything to stand out for us. Not one employee said hello nor asked if we may need help finding anything. Store was clean, but not much else I can say. read more

The two women working at 16:03 on 2/10/26 were really kind and helpful, the voucher wasn't working so the woman at the check out was really sweet. She was making the best of the job. I'm AuDHD and went in to get a vase but the voucher wasn't working so I gave up then tried my email from outside since I had zero reception with att. I found the email that matched the voucher in my "wallet" on my phone. I went back in and tried again. The voucher wasn't working and I couldn't download the app to show my history since I didn't have service. I was overwhelmed and just started crying. The manager was empathetic and worked out the voucher issue. Grateful for both women being compassionate and not getting mad at me for being overstimulated. read more

We bought our Christmas tree here and it is the nicest Christmas tree I have ever had. This Michael's location had a great variety of Christmas decor including the most beautiful trees! Everything was marked down at least 50% for their Black Friday sale...although I'm pretty sure the prices of some things are inflated just to be marked down. Anyway, our tree was originally priced to be over $300 and we paid $139.99 plus tax. It is pre-lit, 7.5' tall, and the LEDs change from white to multi colored if you want it to. There's a control box attached to the lights that allow you to select the color options you'd like. I thought it was a great value and couldn't be happier. I'm happy Michael's sold his because we were having trouble finding a nice tree for under $200. Similar trees of this caliber were going for over $300 at stores like Lowe's, Home Depot, Costco, etc. read more

We were in need of some balloons to be filled for my uncles 70th birthday, and I wasn't aware that we had to schedule a time slot to get balloons filled. I was very kind and apologetic as I know the holiday season is super rough for retail etc. our interaction with the team member was extremely condescending, and they made it seem as though we were inconsiderate for not knowing to schedule a time. We were very patient while they figured out if they could fit us in before their next order 2 hours later. They couldn't which is totally okay!! But the conversations leading up to that were belittling. The store was not busy, and there was one person in line waiting so we weren't holding up a line or anything. I'll make sure to schedule ahead of time next time I need balloons, but when I worked in retail our motto was always "find a way to say yes" and kindness during the holidays ! read more

The checkout person today, however, needed an attitude adjustment and badly (note to Michael's - see who was on the register at 12:30 on 12/22 and please give her some customer service training). Visited Michael's at Gilbert Gateway in search of a few specific items. After looking through the areas I thought they would be but were not, I saw an employee, Derek, and asked if he could help. He said yes without even looking up from what he was doing. All he said was, "They would be at the front of the store." Zero eye contact. No offer to help me look, ask someone else to help, or even direct me to a specific location. Thanks for no help, Derek. Check your people skills next time. read more

I went in for some yarn but maybe my timing is wrong since the store is so messy with the after Christmas sales items. Not a big yarn selection either. I feel like it is not well organized. Horrible customer service! Spoke to 'Gale' the store manager by phone inquiring about items in stock because I could not place my order online for store pickup. She told me that they have nothing to do with anything online orders and could not honor any coupons. BS!! I will never shop your store Gale, you really need some coaching from your district manager or corporate office. read more

Unfortunately they did not but Thomas, the manager, was quite helpful. Unlike the employee at Jo-Ann's he took time to answer me and offer suggestions for what I needed. Came here on the Saturday after Black Friday. Walking into the store was confusing. There was a strange metal detector type looking thing around the door and it was just confusing since the exit door was in the same place. The store itself seemed dirty and unclean and the shelves hadn't been tidied up since the big rush on Black Friday. Then when you went to pay, you couldn't figure out how to get into the line. Store very dirty, just seemed like "stuff" everywhere in wrong spots, carts with stuff in it sitting around. Women's restrooms had no paper towels & no toilet paper in one stall & second stall was filthy. When mentioned it at checkout ( because literally saw one worker on the floor helping a customer). I love the Gilbert Gateway shopping center because it's never busy when I shop there. I feel like it's either not known about or simply overlooked. Either way, it makes for a stress-free shopping experience - easy to park, no long lines to wait in, and whatever I'm looking for is bound to be in stock. The Michaels in this shopping center was no disappointment. I came in looking for a simple picture frame, and found many to choose from. Added bonus: they were 40% off! Score! I also noticed a big selection of scrapbooking materials and seasonal decor. The store is huge. Michaels has great prices, frequent sales, and if you can get a coupon from a mailer, you can get amazing deals. Check this place out! read more

I come here every once in a while for sewing materials, yarn and frames. They have very good sales. Went there today to get some custom frames. The lady behind the counter was very nice and patient. She showed us multiple options. Worked with us for about an hour to make sure that we were happy. This has been my experience every time I have come here. read more

I'm giving Michael's 5 stars because of Allie S. I had ordered a shadow box online and never received an email that it was ready for pickup. The only notice I received was an email saying I had been issued a refund and that my order was being returned. I went the very next day and spoke with the manager who told me there was nothing she could do since it was an online order. Allie was also there and suggested we go take a look to see if it was still in the store and in the frame department. Allie has the most amazing, helpful, and hopeful nature. She's like a ray of sunshine. I was not having one of my best days and I was so disappointed that I might not get the shadow box. Allie's kindness was not only healing to me, it changed my whole day. I had a horrible experience with the custom framing department. First off, the price to get anything framed here is outrageous.. but unfortunately, I decided for time sake this place would be my best bet. First mistake. I went back and forth to the store 3 times and called multiple times only to have the completion dates promised to me pushed back several times. It took them 3 times to get the frame done right (frame corners not lined up right, then a tear in the frame, then they ordered the wrong size).. and by the final time I came in, our beautiful extra-large print had 2 noticeable creases on it. No discount or refund was ever offered to me, despite EVERY mistake being their fault. I gave up, desperate to finally have something to hang on the wall and not have to go back in there. BEWARE! Maybe you will have better luck here than I did, but in my opinion.. 3 strikes you're out, Michaels! read more

We had a birthday party here for our 6 year old. It was so much fun! The manager did face painting and was awesome! The girl that ran the party was so sweet and did an awesome job! Everyone had fun, it was organized chaos but the crafts were fun! The kids all had a blast! I would highly recommend having a party here! read more

Walked around the store for 45 minutes looking for the item I needed that I called ahead to see if they had in stock. All three employees were on the register the entire time even when no one was in line, the girls were just talking, and management was nowhere to be seen. I like to come to here and often have to come pick up something or another for a school project for the kiddos. I always have the problem of coming up with too many projects to do while I walk around the store and see all of the cute things I could make. I love to crochet and am a sucker for yarn. I went to the Michaels on Power Rd to get acrylic sealer. I picked up a few cheaper items on the way to the cashier. When I got to the cashier, I presented her a printed hobby lobby coupon for 40 percent off which I intended to use on the sealer (being the most expensive item in my cart). I was told that I could no longer use a competitor's coupon when Michaels has a 40 percent off coupon online. Okay, I typically have an issue in Michaels stores when I am trying to access their app.. The connection tends not to work and it is slightly irritating, thus I print out the coupons. Next, I bring up the app - and it wants me to select a store - ew - I try to click on it - nothing. The cashier tries to click on it - nothing. Then she condescends to use the Hobby Lobby coupon, but only this time. I get home and to my surprise, she discounted the $1.59 item in my cart and not the $9.99 acrylic sealer. (True, I didn't say - USE THIS ON THE ACRYLIC SEALER - really - you have to?). By the time we got to this point I just wanted to get out of the store. I didn't notice what the cashier had done until well after I got home - which is miles from this particular Michaels store. Needless to say, I was very irritated with the whole experience. I consider this BAD AND UNACCOMMODATING customer service. In all fairness, the Michaels on Stapley and Baseline is quite the opposite. Their cashiers are helpful and pleasant. I will never return to the Power and Ray store - nor recommend it to anyone else. read more

These stores are always pretty clean & well organized. Gotta tell ya tho, not like you don't already know, you wanna only shop here when you get that 40-60% off coupon. Your wallet & heart might as well celebrate its victory while your kids eyes are bulging out of their heads coming up with ideas on how to put all these items together in a single taj mahal display. Worst store in the chain - I agree with one poster that it's not crowded but it also is out of items more than any other store. It also is so understaffed it's impossible to get help if you need it and if you ask someone that works here that you finally locate, my experience is that they wont know what your asking for anyway. I recently was in the store asking about a certain item by Susan Lenart Kazmer, the person looked right at me and said oh we don't carry that artist you might try hobby lobby they get a little credit for trying to help but Susan's line is a Michaels only item. I gave the woman the line name and said no we don't carry that I'm sure. I pointed at the huge display in front of me of Susan items and her answer, Oh that must be brand new. I said nope it came out three years ago now can you see if you have this specific item she said oh we can't do that and she walked off talking to her friend the only other employee in the store that i had seen. Ok bad but any store can have a bad employee right. so I go up to pay, a pleasant young girl asks me if I have a Michael's card? I say sure do and hand it to her. Oh that's not a Michaels card ours are red. I explain that it's a gold card for people who spend more money and that as a professional artist I'm there quite a bit. She says I've never heard of that before. Well it's a Michaels card just read the front it says Michaels right there. she stands looking at me so I said try scanning it I promise it will work. She scans it and then says oh it says you have a $5 off coupon loaded on this card. My response; good you get a five dollar coupon for every 100 you spend. Now she looks scared and says the dreaded words I'm not sure, let me call the manager. So 20 minutes go by and who shows up the lady that argued about the Susan Lenart items. They finally agree to try it and I'm finally out the door just 40 minutes later. And that's not even the bad part! I went into this store to have something framed that was three weeks ago they tell me every day it will be the next day all to no avail they use every excuse imaginable custom frames take time, or custom mat colors are hard to get. Each time I explain it's a off the shelf frame there only cutting a black mat. they say oh that should be fast will have it tomorrow. I wouldn't shop here again if it was all free this store is a joke just keep driving and go to the large store at Power and McKellip's it's a much larger store with competent staff and about twice the selection. It's well worth the drive and the cost of gas I live less than two miles from the gateway store and can still drive make my purchases and drive home much faster than trying to shop at the local gateway store. They have even framed two other items while I'm still waiting for the Gateway store to cut a simple mat. read more

I received a set of pens as a gift that I normally don't use and took the item to another Michael's asking if I could do exchange. They said yes, that would be fine, but unfortunately were sold out of the set I needed. This store had the item in stock, so I drove over and asked about doing an exchange. I was told that without a receipt, I could not do an exchange. I mentioned I was just at another store where the manager said it was no problem. The employee then takes my item and looks it over to make sure it is unused, asks me when I received it which had been just a few days prior, then again tells me there's nothing they can do even though michaels.com clearly states that in store returns without a receipt, "Refunds will be in the form of a Store Return Card and/or merchandise exchange." Crappy experience, left pissed off after having to argue over stupid bottles of paint that their sign said was on sale but staff says doesn't apply, even though the sign is hanging in front of the whole display of paint. If it wasn't for my daughter wanting to paint, we would have just left. We'll go to the one on power and 60 next time, or maybe Joanns. We never have issues at that store. read more

Yesterday I called two of my local Michaels stores asking for a product. Both of the stores told me they were out of this product. I took it upon myself to drive to both stores to look for this product and both stores still had this product. Not only did your employees lie but they didn't go looking to see if they still had the product. When I arrived at the second store to purchase the product that they told me they were out of the manager promptly told me I had to leave the store and was not allowed to go back into the store to look for more of this product. She followed me all the way out of the store to make sure I left. These products were on clearance and were ringing up for .01 cents. The manager then replied in saying my co workers had not taken the product off the shelves like they were supposed to. This is unacceptable. I will be taking my business else where for now on and I will make sure everyone I know knows about this experience I've had. read more
