Yesterday around 8:36 pm I walked in to purchase some items. I walked towards register 5 where a cashier named Alicia was at. She stated she would help me at register 4 and when I walked over to that register she literally walked away without saying anything else. She literally left me there standing waiting for her. I just left this Michaels location and I was not impressed. I was looking for a Bedazzler or like a hot fix rhinestone setter. I had no idea where to begin looking as this is a big store. I asked the girl at the register and she just told me to look between aisles 70-80. That's a wide range. So I looked and it wasn't there. I had to hunt down another employee and she told me to look in a totally different place. It wasn't there, either. The store wasn't busy at all. I saw maybe two other people walking around in the store and nobody could be bothered to just help me find it. The cashier was looking at her personal phone. Finally I had to ASK if somebody could literally walk me to where it should be and help me find it. A third lady came along and discovered they ran out. I came here to try to find resin supplies. I wasn't sure where to look so after 2 trips around the store I tried to find an employee to ask. I spent 30 minutes trying to find help, circling the store multiple times and not one time was I able to find an employee other then the 2 cashiers who were busy ringing people out. I had a few other items that I ended up leaving there because I was so upset with the lack of customer service. The prices are very high, I came here only for convince but ended up ordering what I needed from Amazon while I was in the Micheals parking lot. This particular Michael's is great. Its huge, well-stocked, and well kept. They have a great selection of pretty much everything that the other locations have. Ive been to plenty of Michael's because, well, let's face it, I'm basically Martha Stewart's protoge. I'm not a scrapbooker, but for all you scrapbookers, they have an extensive selection of scrapping materials. I was surprised that a store in Lancaster was this well kept, no offense to those living in Lancaster, but most places here are a got damn mess! I come to Michael's every so often. Their prices won't reel you in. Let alone the staff. I went in today to see what types of yarn they had. They had a 20% off your entire order between 12-4 and I was going to try and take advantage of that. The yarn section was decent, but they rarely stock the same colors which is difficult when you're making something and people ask for one too,but they no longer have it and the staff are not knowledgeable if you ask. I had 4 large rolls in my cart to use my 25% off, but my Internet NEVER works at Michael's as it was trying to load, I showed the employee the email of the coupon before you open it and the employee eventually stated, "I can give you the coupon this one time." I said thank you, unfortunately, I was unaware that I couldn't use the discount because my items were on clearance and because I couldn't open it I was not able to see that. She wasn't patient, wasn't educated on the store or items nor were they friendly. Save your time and headache and go to Joann. I can't wait for Hobby Lobby. read more

Actually, it's more like 2 1/2 stars. Only because the manager made everything almost ok. I booked a children's birthday party in February about two weeks before the party on the 26th. I paid a party deposit, filled out paperwork, picked an activity. I figured it would be drama free and only $7 per kid additional. I was not real impressed with the planning on their part. They admit it was only their second party at this store. This made me a little nervous. I asked when I needed to have the head count to them because I assumed they had to so SOME preparation. They said I could call about five days out. We sent out invites with RSVP by the 21st. I called on the Tuesday (22nd) before the party, first thing in the morning. The associate had no idea what to do with me. She told me I'd have to come in to pay for the supplies or something(?) and give them my head count. I showed up that evening. After they hunted around for the party book, the manager found the book, and tried to do whatever the nitwit from the morning had told me I needed to do. Nothing. Everything she scanned off the little piece of paper in the book came up as $0.00. (@.@). I drove 25 miles into town to do this on a work night. I was not happy. She said we'd just take care of it on Saturday. She said she was working that day and we'd take care of it then. My husband and I show up on Saturday at 11:30 to hang a few decorations and make sure everything was kosher. Not! 1) Everyone thought the party was on Sunday the 27th. 2) They couldn't find the book. 3) The associate who was doing the party was on break. Husband and I do our minor decorating. The party associate (with a ridiculous, non-adult name on her name tag) shows up and says something about the party being on Sunday. I said I have 9 kids showing up at 2 p.m. and I can't change it. I ask if they've done the prep -- gotten the shirts ready or whatever. She thought we were doing some other craft where you make a shirt into a purse. (The two little boys would've loved that!). No, we're doing the ice cream and rocket shirts here on your poster. I asked, is it an iron-on or what. She didn't know. Did they have an iron to transfer the iron on onto the shirts? No. We walked over to the iron on department and there is nothing remotely close to the project. By that time, hubby was in WalMart looking at irons and texting my sister about finding our iron and ironing board in MOJAVE(!) Not wanting to completely wreck the day for my kid, I grabbed the t-shirts, a bunch of iron on stuff, a party pack of tubes of fabric paint, sparkly stuff. I had to pay for everything in advance - fine, but get your act together. 4) I ask about cardboard or something to keep the paint from bleeding through to the back side of the shirts. She shows me a $3.99 piece of cardboard shaped like a t-shirt. The shirts were on sale for $2.50. You've got to be kidding. Then I realize I have a box in their back room I can cut up. Give me a shopping list! I was ready to growl at the party associate. I asked her to get the manager. She said she had to go on her LUNCH BREAK. GRRRR. Wait, wait, wait. I just go pay for the stuff. The manager from Tuesday arrives, doesn't question me about the $55 worth of iron on crap I'm buying. 5) The "iron-on" is actually a photocopied sheet of paper. 6) She does give me a 20% off coupon. We sort of get things straightened out. Go back to the room. I cut up the cardboard. 7) Manager sends "Wiffle" or whatever her name was to get me another cardboard box to cut up. 8) Another employee helps set up the room and table for the cake. They give us balloons and some party favors free. 9) The manager offered up several bottles of fabric paint that I didn't have to pay for because the store would keep them. Hubby shows up with cake and ice cream. They nicely offer to stow the ice cream in their freezer. 10) Wiffle expects four-year-olds to outline something in black fabric paint by themselves. Nine kids -- three tubes of black fabric paint. 11) One kid spills her drink. They give me a free t-shirt. Kids load on the colored paint. They need brushes. 12) Wiffle suggests foam brushes that I have to buy. I go out to get them and run into the manager. She says they have brushes in the art room, goes in and pulls them out. (This is great because I would've had to wait in line for 10 minutes at the register, easily.) 13) When the kids are done, I, the MOM, find space for them to put their shirts to dry while they have cake. I offer Wiffle cake and ice cream. 14) They provided crayons and Hello Kitty coloring pages for the end of the party. I don't know if Wiffle helped clean up because I was back at register 2 returning $55 worth of iron on junk. And because of the 20% off coupon, it took forever. I'm not sure I'd do it again. read more

They blame corporate for not being able to check out more than 1 customer at a time when there are 15 people in line and 4 cash registers. Clearly there is a misfire in the synapse. I have shopped at this location for a while now and today had to have been the best experience. I needed a picture frames yesterday for my grandmothers funeral but it would have taken 2 weeks to get her painting back. Then the associate let me know about express framing, basically you get a frame from the store floor and they put it together. She assisted me with picking out a great matting for the painting and it was ready next day. It came out beautiful with wire and sealing to keep dust out. I would refer anyone here for framing needs! Also instead of spending 400$ I only spent 70 huge price difference doing the express framing. read more

My parents wanted custom picture frames for my moms large diamond art pictures. they needed three custom picture frames one was over $400. When my parents asked questions and needed help with finding the perfect frame the associate seemed put off. My parents felt very uncomfortable. For The amount of money my parents would have spent on these stupid custom frames you would think that the associate would've acted nicer more helpful. After finding out the type of treatment my parents received at Michael's I told them to try hobby lobby the next day they went to Hobby lobby not only was the associates extremely helpful the management stopped by a few times to ask if everything was going OK if they needed additional help . guess what, hobby lobby was cheaper than Michael's !!! my parents purchased more custom frames but spent the same amount. Lesson learned Michael. Don't judge a book by its cover my mother really into diamond art and she is making them for Christmas presents. all of them will have custom frames you just missed out. read more

I have been in this store several times and usually they have everything I need, but the last 2 times I've been in the store nothing. I do plastic canvas work and they didn't have the round canvas I needed the first time so I had to drive to another store. Today I went back in and again I needed plastic canvas this time rectangles and they didn't have them either, or the yarn I needed. This store seems to be out of a lot of items and claim they have nothing in the back that everything is put out on the shelves. I would rather save the headache and drive the 20 extra minutes to Palmdale where I know I can get what I'm looking for plus a lot more!!! read more

You should see how employees are treated. Minimum wage and minimum hours. Which both local stores claim is so all employees are treated fairly or some gobbledegook. Yet there's never anyone to help customers on the floor, never enough cashiers. They even used to have a negative only point system ( in other words you could not GAIN points for doing well, only lose--recently abolished) that included sick days even WITH doctor excuse! Managers typically have no management training, and their "open door policy" in theory is great as long as you deal with corporate in Texas, but once it's kicked back to the unfortunate employee's DM, forget it. The employees only suck because they are not trained. Most mean well, but don't dare cross their manager. I've complained so often, I've been told I'm not welcome (through the employee I know, mind you) any more. Shame, too. I know a lot of craft- y people. Oh, and most of their products are junk. Except custom framing, and some classes, if employee actually is experienced with what they're trying to teach. and IF the store bothers to tell customers they even HAVE classes. it's that "big book" someone else mentioned. Michael's Lancaster and Palmdale stores. This is my opinion and should not reflect on any of the poor young people just trying to keep a job in today's job climate. added a couple of days later: this was posted in the "michaels (arts and craft store) in lancaster, CA. i only speak from my knowledge of the lancaster and palmdale stores, approximately 10 miles apart. am curious who checked it "funny", lol, not what i was going for, but, hey, you read it, thank you!! also, since original post, i've been told hours have been cut further (if you opt in for company offered insurance, X amount comes out of every check, no matter HOW many hours worked. i kid you not, the person i know was given NINE hours (3 hours over 3 days) and had they opted in for health insurance, they would have OWED money. there's something really hinky about michaels. if you want to know any more about it, , i'm sure there's a way you can PM me. hell, i'm still trying to get my NAME right!! lol!! read more

Don't go to this Michael's for your framing needs. The lady here (Naomi) can't measure and gave me a mat that didn't fit my frame. This was one of their frames with the measurements on the front - no reason she should have got this wrong. So when I took it home and noticed it waa wrong, I went back the next day to return it. Naomi was so rude. She told me she wasn't going to return it because it was already cut. Yeah wrong by you. Then she said "well I know my measurements." My daughter went to Michaels yesterday. Typically, when checking out, you're greeted with some sort of pleasantry "hi...did you find everything okay". No big deal if you're not. My daughter said hello to the sales associate. She received no response. Still really not a big deal - after all, we all have our good/bad days. Her purchases are rang up. The sales associate POINTED at the total, not saying a word. It's slightly becoming a big deal. My daughter pays with cash. Hands it to the sales associate who puts the change ON THE COUNTER instead of in my daughters out stretched hand. Now, it's a BIG DEAL. My daughter picks up her change and comments "really! Is this what Michaels is doing now"? The associate looks at her still not saying one single word. As my daughter turns to walk out of the store, she hears the same sales associate greet the next customer "hi, hope you found everything ok". My daughter stops and makes eye contact with the sales associate who just smirks. read more

We stayed in same place looking as when we asked you. Then when we saw you helping someone across the store we came over to ask you if you were able to find more of the items we were after. Low and behold you literally walked through the entrance door to then go through the exit door to miss contact with us after making eye contact. Then you stood there talking to another associate at the cash register. Do we walked back around to catch you while you were talking to the associate and we had to ask you if you found more of the items. This review is for the framing shop at Michael's which is outstanding. I've had many pictures framed there and they always do a super job. One item I brought to them was especially difficult b/c it required the framer to sew pieces of it to the backboard on which it was laid out. They did an absolutely fantastic job. I've always had fast friendly and very competent service at the framer's shop. I would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

Went into Michaels for art supplies. All art supplies were buy one get one free. I bought several different items. When they rang up my items some rang up as clearance, so no discount. They took the highest priced items and matched them up with the lowest price items. $16.00 dollar item with $5 item. I had a $16 and $15 dollar item. Then to top it off instead of being free everything was just discounted 50 percent. Instead of saying buy one get one free why not just call it a 50% sale. The lines are obnoxious. Always. Always. Always. And I always struggle to find what I'm looking for - its never where I think it is going to be... I somehow manage to find it, usually after a few laps around the store... but it isn't without some effort. Maybe I'm just looking for obscure items? What I DO enjoy is the constant sales. Everything I want is always 40 - 60% off. I'll shut my mouth about not being able to find things, because once I do - they're cheap! Hooray... so I load up my basket of arts and crafting goodies (the selection IS quite vast)... and then go stand in line for 20 minutes. Meh, whatever - a cart full o' crafts for under $25? I am giving the store 3 stars. I do shop here a lot because it is a lot closer to me than the Joannes or the Michaels in Palmdale. Although I wish it were a Joannes instead of a Michaels, that is a different story. This store would get 5 stars, if not for one BIG thing. Why, whenever I go, is there only one cashier and 50 people in line? And what is more irritating, is I walk past 3 associates on my way to the register. I have worked retail for many years, and had there been a line, we would have jumped on register immediately. It was like they were the bosses and would rather do go backs than take care of the customers. Not to mention, how stressful for the cashier! It is really annoying. I also wish their cake boxes were put in the correct places and werent ripped and folded when I pulled them out. This would be a lot better!
