Years ago, we used to spend lots of time in Barnes & Noble. They had chairs all around to sit and enjoy a coffee and look at books. It was so nice, and then Covid hit and all the chairs were taken out and never brought back. I miss those days. We took our granddaughter in to pick out books. Barnes & Noble in Palmdale is the ultimate spot to not only find the perfect gift for family, friends, or even yourself, but also spend a few hours enjoying the vibe of a true book lover's paradise. The spacious layout is ideal for browsing, and they have a good amount of books in each category. I appreciate the couple of chairs by the windows, right next to the magazines. It would be nice to have chairs also near other sections of the store, especially by the cookbooks, because there are so many to choose from and it's nice to relax while you browse your next book purchase. If you're the type who likes to take your laptop out and work while enjoying a cup of coffee, this is a decent place for it. It's like the perfect blend of a café, a library, and a workspace all in one. The girl, Melanie, at the front counter was friendly and helpful during both of my visits. She took my order at the Cafe during one visit, and during my last visit, she also assisted me with my book purchase. She informed me of how to get the best value and signed me up for the Barnes & Noble Rewards membership with zero hassle. I love how easy it was to sign up! Also, it's nice that the book purchase receipts usually come with a discount offer to use at the cafe. Speaking of the cafe, the barista, Xander, really knows his stuff! I asked for a custom Frappuccino, and he totally nailed it. Perfectly blended, not too sweet, and just the right amount of kick. Honestly, the treats and drinks they offer at the cafe make the whole visit that much more enjoyable! This location is a nice spot for a casual hangout and fit for people of all ages. It's a place where you can escape into a good book, find that perfect gift for someone special, or just enjoy the simple pleasure of the environment. Highly recommend and don't forget to visit the section by the door where they usually have good deals on books! I love this barnes & noble! The atmosphere is relaxing and never ran into any problems browsing the store. The starbucks in here is also nice. They have a fair amount of seating & tables to work or study. The only downside is they don't have any outlets to charge your laptop or phone which can be inconvenient. They are either hidden and blocked off or out of reach. It's decent to get work done, but if you are going to stay productive the whole visit, I'd say make sure your devices are charged beforehand and bring a portable charger with you for backup. I also enjoy my Barnes & Noble experience. I stopped by to pick up some math and writing workbooks for my children and ended up with a book for me and cookies from Starbucks. I was having trouble finding the writing workbooks for my children and a really sweet employee was able to help me immediately. I walked around for a bit and ended up coming across a book that was on my reading list. Made whole by Tiffany Aliche is a must read and I am definitely getting my ? money's worth. I love the location (near the mall and several great fast-food restaurants, including Five Guys). The parking lot can sometimes get full, but it's never too bad, not even during the holidays. The store is clean, well-stocked, and welcoming. The café is good, too. I'm a fan of literary magazines and I'm pleased to see that they are regularly stocked, from Tin Cup and Paris Review, to Asimov's Science Fiction and The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. While the rest of the store is great, I'd like to see the restrooms maintained better. It seems only minimum effort is made toward cleaning, stocking, and maintaining the facilities, and the toilet paper is too thin. I'd like to see a 20% improvement in the maintenance of the restrooms, at least. Otherwise, this is an excellent B&N with friendly staff, and I'm sure I will visit many times in the future. read more

They use to get together and read books to kids while also offering cafe coupons and kid activities. Not anymore :( Also, the cafe is garbage. Doesn't taste the same as a legit Starbucks. The only difference is it's a bit more pricier with worse taste. They'll ask you if you're a B&N member and they won't accept stars or payment from the Starbucks app. Not a great place to study people are loud and inconsiderate (Palmdale, amiright?) and there are no outlets to charge phones or laptops. Time to update...still my go to place for peace and quiet, green tea and cookies from the cafe. Usually buy a record or two but when I went to pay I was shocked that now you can't pay without choosing to TIP or not! I have been a member for many years and upgraded to premium member when it became available but now wondering whether it is worth continuing as the 10% I save with premium membership is totally wiped out with a tip! What next? Am I going to have to tip the cashier at the grocery store? Disappointed. I " tip ' with the $40 I pay for membership. And yes, I know I don't have to tip, but who wants to be that person? I still love having a brick and mortar bookstore to browse. You can get anything (practically) A to Z. Gifts, games, puzzles, music, movies and magazines galore. A coffee shop with snacks as well. New chairs. (Suggest the 2 girls working the counter take a break from socializing to sweep the floor and clean tables as it was messy and not busy at all) The prices will never be Amazon prices as their overhead is higher. I don't live around this store (35 mile one way trip) but it showed it had the item I wanted for pickup. Very disappointed. Back in 2019, they wouldn't price match their own website. So I went to the Target (located in the same parking lot) and got the book I wanted there. Not only does Target price match, they will even price match Amazon (as long as it says the item is sold/shipped by Amazon and not a 3rd party seller). But I think they match price match their own website now....? I've also been here looking for the first book in a series to only find books #2, #3, and #4. Disabled customers not welcome at this store. You aren't welcome to sit. Now if you are able bodied you can take your stack of 20 magazines, not paid for, into the cafe to read for hours. But if you're unable to stand for long and want to sit to look thru books in the stacks, you're told it's not allowed at Barnes and Noble and you must leave. So I PAID for the books and was told I still can't read them in the store and I must not be disabled because the pictured employee doesn't feel I am. The government and doctors say I am but the illiterate boob at the store knows better. She then told me it was a 'crime' to post a negative review on Yelp. This is a great bookstore for a chain. I love the small independent mom and pop shops primarily. I love to patronize their shops, talk with the owners, hear their stories and give them my business. But if I have to go to a chain, this B & N is it. Great and friendly staff, nice open layout with multiple areas to sit, lounge and read. They have a pretty decent sized collection of true crime, biographies, and spirituality books here. But if I want a more diverse selection on Eastern Philosophies, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam or Agnosticism, I know I need to go "down below" to the greater LA area. And since I've read most of the books on profilers and serial killers, I must go to LA for that rare find that I haven't seen before. The African-American Lit section is pretty sparse also, but I have Eso Won and other shops in LA for that. But this place has a great collection of political and sports biographies, lots of food related books (as if I need more), gardening books and current events. My friend and I can easily spend hours here as she peruses her astronomy and relationship books and tells me why I'm still single and she's so great and lovable. It's all in the stars you know? Yeah whateva... just get me my books and let's get outta here!! I like this Barnes and Noble for its wide selection of books. I do not like this Barnes and Noble because there is no seating besides the chairs in Starbucks. The prices are outrageous for books in my opinion. I went there and got three books with a discount member card and 25% a slightly damaged book and the price still came to $80. As a result I try to limit my shopping here and only look and not purchase, but this is difficult due to the lack of chairs. There are usually always some rowdy kids over in the childrens section often times unsupervised. The lines usually take a long time as well with there only being one to two checkers. read more

Would recommend avoiding Xander. He has stalked my social media and followed me around the store. I do not know him outside of my business here. I have mentioned him to employees/management and he was gone but seems to have returned lately. The rest of the staff have been wonderful. But he found my full name and social media when I signed up for the BN membership, and no amount of blocking gave me peace for months. At any rate, I stopped in here this past weekend to get a secret santa gift for a co-worker and this is your standard B&N. I feel sad with the downfall of bookstores nowadays with iPads and Android phones, as soon as you step in though you see them pushing the Nook which is another type of ebook hard. I can't blame them and I believe it is cheaper than a Kindle which I own and love, but anyways...they had everything I was looking for and then some. Store manager is totally out of control. When I asked her how much was a coffee refill, she became defensive and stated that there was only ONE REFILL allowed at fifty cents. I stated that I had just been charged 75 cents, plus taxes. She then remarked that MAYBE they had increased the price and she was not aware of it. "You mean to tell me that prices can be increased arbitrarily, and the store's manager, which is you, don't even know it?" I said. She took me to the coffee shop, Starbucks logo on it, and asked one of the employees there. The man said that the price had gone up since 3 months ago. I refuted that, since just 3 weeks ago I had been charged 50 cents for a refill. The manager then simply told me that I was screaming at the man, which I also refuted. She became agitated and rude and used the only recurse of the empower ignorant: "leave MY store now!" She demanded." "Of course" I said. "Do you think that customers who patronize this store come here to pay your salary for you to treat us like a tyrant? You need to think again, madam." I said as I left the place. Reviewing the ratings, I discovered that she has made many customers feel demeaned. I also called Corporate Office at (800) 843-2665 to report her unprofessionalism and lock of people skills. Case No. 2192985 was opened as a formal complaint against her. Bottom line, people, it's our money which we spent. We pay for the salaries of those selling a service or product. We, therefore, have all the right to be treated with decency. read more

Used to be my favorite bookstore, very clean and calm atmosphere but management is absolutely atrocious. After I finished checking out I waited for my sister to pay, I browsed their little stands of nicknaks and the manager (causiacasion/ middle aged/ blonde women) followed me around and began yelling at me and getting in my face that I was stealling. When I offered to empty my bags she refused to let me and began yelling and gesturing in my face, profiling me about how "people like you" and how me being young and my appearance was suspicious. How I was stealling from society, I insisted that I empy my bags but both the manager and sales clerk escalated in anger and yelling, I expressed how I was extremely offened and they were blatant that they did not give a damn. read more

I've gone to this Barnes and Noble three times now. I've only had one good experience. The rest were meh or just terrible. The last time I went, I bought "The Only Good Indians," which is a horror book. The guy behind the register verbally noted shock at the title and seemed to judge me for buying the book. Obviously, if you read the jacket, you would know that the title is being used as a literary device, especially when you consider that the author himself is Native American. But, all the same, I left feeling embarrassed. The same cashier has also tried to sell me a random book while I was checking out another time. Not interested in being sold to, just want to buy the books I came in to get. Furthermore, this particular Barnes and Noble seems to be understaffed. You can see that they're stressed all the time and, at times, it comes off as rudeness. I feel bad because I do try to support brick and mortar bookstores, even if it does cost me a little bit extra. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to find a new place to buy books. read more
