Checkout was a nightmare! I had a coupon which entitled me to $5 off a $25 purchase. My purchase came to $28 before tax and my cashier Isabel wasn't sure how the coupon worked as one of my purchases was clearance. I suggested to Isabel she take the clearance item off and I would pay for it separately. She informed me that it wasn't possible as I was not allowed to make 2 transactions in the same day!!! I was rapidly losing patience as my husband was waiting outside in the car. Thankfully at that moment an assistant Tiffany and sorted the problem out! Thank you Tiffany! Unimpressed. My experience w/ the customer service here was questionable. I simply called to check the availability of an item. While I was greeted politely, I was placed on hold for a total of 17 minutes only to be hung up on. I called back. Was placed on hold again and once attended to, I was then challenged by the employee as to the specifics of what I was looking for. The Fletcher Parkway location is a bit cramped in terms of layout, but then again, most of them are. The plus side includes friendly staff who're eager to assist you in your craft needs. Be aware, the place is usually crowded, especially during the holiday season. But I do like that the location is in a strip mall with a few restaurants... shop, refuel, shop more. read more

Be prepared to stay here a while even if you go in and grab what you need. Their lines are crazy. They do have some people walking around the store to assist you. I waited almost 20 minutes for someone to bring me a cart. I finally had to go outside and search the parking lot to find my own. I did not have coupons so I asked how to load the app using that code thingy on the counter. The manager just grabbed a different coupon instead of showing me how to do that. They have some really cool items there and the store was clean for the most part. read more

I'll be polite. The store is fine with well stocked shelf's and a clean safe store to shop. Having said that....the sales people are unbelievably slow, talk too much and when there are more than 6 people in line while 2 other employee's stand around talking it sure makes me want to leave and I have. I stepped out of line and spend my money elsewhere. I think it is a manager issue that needs to be addressed. I've seen it too may times to be a "once and awhile" event. Wife and kids go here all the time. I have no problems finding what we need and then some. Staff is always helpful and coupons always accepted. Prices I feel are fair and if you want more off, coupons are always in our e-mail, receipt or snail mail. Big parking lot and convenient. Returns always accepted and fast. They ALWAYS have the store STACKED with decorations for the season. Easter - packed with Easter stuff, Halloween, packed with Halloween stuff, Christmas, packed with Christmas decorations, 4th of July, packed with independence day stuff, you get it. I know it's the holidays. I expect it to be crowded. I expect it to be annoying. I expect the constant spew of crappy christmas songs to be pumped into the place on a maddening loop that slowly but surely wears away at my soul. That being said, this place is unorganized, cramped, and downright messy! Whole aisles blocked off by boxes of things yet to be stocked, ladders just left out in narrow pathways, and employees who don't even look at you as they obstruct the one butt wide lanes. I always come here for small jewelry supply purchase, jump rings, clasps etc. Their 40% off coupon comes in the paper on sundays which is one of the only reasons i come here. Anything crafty you need, they have it [cake decorating, sprinkles, kids crafts, glues, fake flowers, frames, glitter, martha stewart stuff, paper, canvas etc.] Use their coupon to get pricier items like hardcover sketchbooks, paint brushes, martha stewart stuff etc. They always have sales too so you can get a deal most anyday of the week! read more

Today was my second visit to this store. I honestly don't know why there's such bad reviews. It's always less busy than the Mission Valley store and its 100 times better than the Joann's down the street. Today I went because I'd been driving all over town - two Joanns, a home depot and the mission valley michaels - looking for some unfinished wood crates for a pinterest project. This store was the ONLY one that answered the phone when I called, and they had a TON of the crates in stock. A sweet young lady was super nice about getting the tall ladder and lugging down the 9 crates for me too, even though they were super heavy. They also happened to be on sale. This will definitely be my go-to craft store from now on! read more

I go to Micheals weekly for work items and this is the only one that I have been to where if I ask a question they can answer it or at leas attempt to try to :) The assistant manager helped me yesterday look for a product and didn't just say its out of stock but checked other stores. I have also been offered helped carrying the large amount of card stock i purchased all at once, very helpful to a mom with two little ones. There selection isn't the greatest..the mission valley and santee store are much larger with a bigger variety but this one by far as better customer service. read more

I have come here several times (it is the closest store to me) & have never really been impressed. The store is very cluttered, kind of messy & the staff is not very helpful. On one occasion when I went in, one of their signs hanging in the isles fell on my head. It was very heavy & made out of metal. I let the cashier know, simply to say "Hey, your signs need to be attached better." & didn't even get a sorry. Recently we ordered 2 frames. We were told they would be ready in 2 weeks & to expect a call. Well 3 weeks later & still no call. I decided I should just call to check in & guess what..they were ready! I told the lady that helped us that we didn't receive a call & she just said "Oh, well you must have called before the framer got the chance." Sooo it takes a week to make a phone call? Once again, no sorry, no oops our mistake..They just don't really seem to care about making their customers feel appreciated. read more

Went here to look for paint options and boy was it a rather irritating experience. They organize the store by project rather than by product type so if you are newbie looking for options expect to have to go to 3-6 different aisles for one product type. The aisles are also horribly marked and I barely saw staff walking around to see if they help customers find stuff. I also noticed that all their stuff was severely overpriced (even for retail) if you were getting precut items (like wood or styrofoam pieces). ON the plus side there was plenty of parking, a huge selection (if you can find it of course, you should see their sticker/scrapbook selection - wowee) and the staff was pretty decent in service - quick, although I think commenting on people's the quantity of someone's purchase is a bit pointless - don't act like someone buying too many stickers is a bad thing! Overall it was a 3 star experience, pretty average. More customer friendly organization of the store would make this a quicker trip and add another star for me. read more

Came here to get a cork board for my roommate since she needed something for her class project. The place is a little bit run down, unlike the other Michaels I have gone to. Other Michaels are cleaner and much more organized. It took us a while to find the cork boards, as well as the push pins. I wish they didn't have to hide such things in small places where we couldn't easily see it, we both were vertically challenged. They could use some help rearranging the store so some items would be easier to locate. As for the organization of the store, there could have been things that would be changed so it would make it convenient for customers to shop around. And all the cashiers seemed a little pushy and/or quiet, seems like all of them had a rough day or something. Other than that, if I really wanted a pleasant time to shop, I'd head over to another arts and crafts store. But otherwise if I needed something urgently, this is just down the street. Though the lines could be somewhat long, some cashiers take their sweet time ringing items up. Wish they had grocery store cashiers so I wouldn't have to rot away by waiting so long there. read more

DONT GET A PICTURE FRAMED HERE!!!! We dropped off a print to get framed, spent a lot of money and it came back with a line down the print that was not there when we dropped it off. Michaels is trying to say it is a defect in the print. Regardless, it wasnt there when we dropped it off. They are trying to act like we should just take it how it is. I am still fighting with them on this issue, so if they actually do what is right and reframe the new print we ordered and refund the cost of reorder I will change my review. I wish you could give zero stars because I would. read more

My mom was so excited that they got in a shipment of Lampwork beads in. Very intricate glass beads for bracelets or necklaces. Mom loves to make bracelets and she used to go to The Black Bead to get her fancy beads. But one drawback to going all the way down to Ocean Beach for beads is not only the high cost of gasoline, but they are twice as expensive as Michael's. We both had a ball just looking at all the different beads Michael's has to offer. Look out for the coupons also that give 40% off. What a deal! read more

So you sign up for their rewards program and then you get the emails which require sign in to the website before you can use the coupon; when you are shopping there is no time to go through the whole process to get the coupons and the dumb check out ladies have no will to help you get a coupon that works; don't like the way Michaels now doesn't give you the coupons unless you have the log in to their website; going to switch to Joann's. read more

Your usual Michael's, nothing out of the ordinary here. There are always solicitors in the parking lot, though. I wish the commercial landlord would do something about it. Other than that and noting that it is a little messier in the cheap bins/clearance sections, I haven't had any issues here. I will say that I have found better prices on items over at Joann's just around the corner, but I love this Michael's anyhow. read more

Some of these reviews are so harsh! I live down the street from the La Mesa Michael's and I absolutely love it! The employees are always ready to help and give great advice. I enjoy being able to use my coupons via iPhone. I try not to go on a Saturday because it's usually a more crowded day (for any store). I've only been to this Michael's twice because it's closer to home. I usually shop at the one near Fashion Valley Mall, since it's closer to work. But man-oh-man, my 2nd experience at this location I had a very rude and condescending cashier check me out. She tried telling me that I need to tell her first before I use a competitor's coupon before I have her scan my items to make her job easier (never had that happen the dozen times I go to other Michael's) and then she tells me that it's a Michael's corporate policy that you can only use 1 coupon per transaction. Um, no ma'am! I've used a JoAnn's coupon and a Michael's coupon for different items in the same transaction. I'll take my business elsewhere. I will be sending a complaint to corporate! read more

If my ONLY review was one phone call, I called Joann's and the phone rang 7 times, only to be picked up by a clearly annoyed employee who didn't know the answer to my question. I went to the Michaels in Mission Valley and they didn't have what I needed. I came to this one 5 mins before they closed and they didn't have what I needed on the shelves. So they got into the bins and found it (I needed Tull for a tutu dress for Halloween). The fact that they went out of their way was amazing to me! The following day I had to go back for something else. I was greeted by the same person and he helped me search for the other thing. Everyone in this store is super friendly and helpful! I was planning a retirement for a co-worker and as a parting gift, I ordered a specialty frame and mat from the Aaron Brothers section of Michaels. I received excellent help and patience as I selected the frame and double mat. Maria was especially helpful in providing the mat in advance so that co-workers could write a personalized message on the mat. Maria was also very helpful in arranging the photograph and the sentimental picture all in the frame. She even suggested using clear spacers so that the messages written would not be blocked by the frame. It was about a 2 week process for the special order but well worth the time and wait. Maria did an outstanding job!!! read more
