I hadn't been to Michaels for some time, but there were some items that I needed so I visited them. They were kind enough (over the phone) to hold an item for me and I found the service and the experience absolutely first class. Two outstanding employees who made my visit a very pleasant experience were Vanella and Crystal. They went above and beyond to make my shopping really easy and enjoyable. Beware of Michael's framing department! Michaels owns Aaron Brothers Frame Store and after dealing with both stores recently, I would never deal with this store again except to buy spray paint! First off their concern is not your artwork but ringing up an exorbitant charge on your credit card before they even get the artwork to frame. It is a nightmare dealing with this company including the manager Sylvia. Their mantra starts with 'company policy states.....' so you know where that goes. NO, I don't know your company policy nor did you give me a copy or communicate it to me before you overcharged my AE. Save yourself grief. time and lots of $$$$ by avoiding Michaels' and for that matter Aaron Brothers too. read more

This review goes out not only to this Glendale store, but almost ALL of the Michaels I have been too. I am usually the type of person who will go out of my way to compliment staff to management. I never complain. Until today. I've been to this Michaels store 3 times in the last four days and have spent about $450. I'm soooooooooo tempted to take it all back but this is the only stupid store that carries the Lemax Halloween village that I know of (for decent prices. I'll pay $1,000's for a Christmas village but Halloween doesn't need to have all the special detail). I digress.... I only have moved forward with this village as I promised my child we'd add more n more for him each year like I do for my Christmas village. Ok. Point made. Other than I also spend $100's on special framing and over $500 a year on Christmas garlands, picks, lights, ribbons, etc to make my own homemade garlands. Ok ok. POINT MADE AT WHAT I SPEND THERE. THIS YEAR IS DIFFERENT. NOT A HELLO (not even once in the 5-10 times I've been to the store this season). Not one 'how are you'. When I ask about coupon specials, I was 15 mins early before I could use coupon. Ok. I understand and respect rules. I said, that's fine, can I leave my full cart up front here so it's ready when I get back in 15?' Her reply: 'a... No sir we can't do that.' Me: 'well what if I leave it in a corner and come back to it' Her reply: sir, now that we know about it and know you are going to leave your cart, it's our obligation to put everything back. ' Me: 'your guns lut everything back in 15 mins' Her: 'yes.... To give others the opportunity to but the items. But ILL BUY THE ITEM IN WHATS NOW GUNA BE 10 minutes' This may seem silly n pointless to some but it's NOT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY COULD'VE EASILY HELD ITEMS. Today around 300pm, I went to go pick up very specific sized frames that I couldn't find at a closer michaels. When I ordered it, I never once received a message about my order not being complete. I drove over 9 miles, from east los angeles, to Glendale to pick up frames I was told were ready. On my receipt you can see that my order was complete and there was absolutely no mention of my order not being complete. At Walmart they even provide substitutions and alert you when they are out of stock. Gas is very expensive and at an all time high right now. I did not appreciate being told my order was fulfilled when it was missing the very items I was driving out of my way for. I have michaels that are closer but these specific frames were the ones I needed 8.5 x 11 which isnt even an odd sized frame. Once I get to the cashier to pick up my order (after waiting 15-20 minutes in line). Then I had to wait another 15-20 minutes for my order to be brought to me. When finally one of the cashiers realized the other cashier has my order. We were standing there waiting when it was ready. Even the cashier who was initially helping us looked distressed because the amount of customers they were backed up with (there were only 3 cashiers during peak season??). Once they finally realize where the frames are, and (I'm frustrated after waiting a half hour for a Pick up order) I said, wait that's not all my frames. In which, rudely, the male cashier with the thick eyebrows tells me oh yeah we don't have them in stock anymore, and walks away from me. I then ask, is there any sort of compensation because the only reason I came to the michaels in Glendale (wasting gas I can't afford), was to pick up the very frames they said they didn't have. In which, in an exasperated voice, he tells me, well they refunded you. At this point, appalled by the atrocious customer service and lack of care, I told them I would be filing a complaint and walked out. I needed these frames today and I should have received an alert or phone call as I would have canceled the rest of the order and gladly gone to a different Michaels. Why is your system so faulty and why don't you have a seperate area for pick up? I might as well just shop there because if I have to wait in line it already defeats the purpose. I'll be speaking to corporate as well because I couldn't believe how much time and resources I spent today just trying to pick up some frames. Why didn't they at least try to find a solution for me? A substitution like Walmart? Even a coupon would have helped me not feel so burned. I'll never go back to this Michael's and honestly if there isn't a response I won't be shopping at michaels at all in the future. read more

Pretty sweet deal! I got all of the frames I needed for my husbands bday gift for the price of one of the frames alone all because of the buy one get one sale and buy one get one 50% off combined mixed with my work discount (Yeay school district) and the cashier that took the $10 off over $40 and 20% off entire purchase. What the hell? It's a little more organized than the Burbank Michael's and they have fake Christmas trees on display! I just hated the fact that the cashier didn't give my brother his 40% off receipt! She just tore it off and kept it. Uhhh...Just be sure you get everything that's printed out, I suppose. Beware! P.S. this is the best michaels i've ever been in... very warehouse style. but for so much stuff they have jam packed inside, it always seems as tho i cant get a better selection of whatever item im looking for. its hard to say they dont have enough of something when the store is so damn big! i went thru a phase when i wanted to scrapbook all day every day. so when i walked into Michaels i was like a kid in a candy store! i wanted to buy up everything.... i prolly spent over $100. ugh. minus a star for its location... i really hate going to that little shopping area it located in, no one can drive or park or be nice about anything. read more

Most Michaels stores are the same, my only complaint about this one is that the parking can be a pain sometimes since it's in a strip mall. Otherwise, a good store for all your arts and crafts needs. The employees at this store are a little more friendly at some of the other stores I've visited. read more

We use Michaels a lot for our kids' school projects and just to purchase fun stuff for them. We won't be returning to the Glendale store anytime soon. The cashiers there either don't know the difference between a $20 bill and a $5 bill or the store is collecting money for their holiday fund. Managers are no help! read more

As a chain, I absolutely LOVE Michael's. This location however, is not the most lovable. This Michael's is hardly ever up to date with the promotions they are having (the signage is never up to date). The only way I end up knowing about a sale is from having gone to another location. I received terrible customer service from the manager Kenya. I was checking out last night and showed my Joann coupon to be matched (Michaels accepts ALL competitors coupons- see their website under 'coupons'.... there are a few restrictions). I was trying to use a 40% off all regular priced merchandise coupon...however Kenya, very rudely, told me they don't accept that type of coupon...ummm what? She stated that they only match certain types of coupons which is absolutely not true. I typically shop at the Studio City or Encino location and I have used a 20% off and 40% off all regular priced merchandise coupon at both of these locations in the past month. I tried to explain this to Kenya but she was very dismissive. I asked for her last name because I plan to call corporate but she would not give it to me. This manager should not be in a customer service position, let alone be a manager of a store. So now I'm going to go return everything at the Encino location and rebuy it with the 40% off coupon I know they will honor. Highly annoying. read more

Bad parking, mediocre selection and tuned out staff make for a meh experience.

I think I've been to Michael's more times in the past month than I have in my entire life. With that said I think I'm well qualified to write this review. Well this is pretty much your one stop shop for all things crafty. Duh. Something for everyone, i swear.Sometimes they have awesome coupons or sales. However, the awesome coupons usually can't be applied when there are also awesome sales. lame. They also have dollar bins with really cute things that totally trump target's dollar spot. Great spot for all things crafty. HOWEVER... I went in there the other day and had some of the worst customer service, ever. At first I was gracious since the lady in front of me allowed me to go ahead of her. I had a few things to return. What should have been a quick return turned into almost a 10 minute ordeal. I'm sorry but if you're a manager of some sort (I forgot her title, but it was something fancier than the regular cashier) you should display the best customer service, especially with the store manager running around the check out area. No No, two items into my return you stop the transaction to give another register change. Okay, fine, but no because in the process of that you try to find someone to go on another register. This involved writing some stuff down and yelling across the registers. Then a few more of my items are returned (i had 6 small, easy 1$ things to return) and then STOP..more change being given, another employee doing a price check in the middle of my return on the same register, and more loud talking trying to figure out who is on lunch and who can ring up. Irritation setting in. She picks up the rest of my items, asks a stupid question to which i reply, yes that's what it says on the receipt. Finally all my items were returned and I got my receipt back. I was rather calm during the whole transaction but irritated because not once during the whole ordeal did i get an "oh i'm sorry to keep you waiting" or "sorry about that" or even a simple "excuse me". nothing. horrid customer service skills. i almost wished i was one of those chosen people that gets to rate my experience so i could tear them all a new asshole about that. i've worked retail i know how much of a bitch it is, but the one thing you can do to show some sort of respect for the customer who is standing there wasting time at YOUR expense is some sort of apology. shame on you michaels. shame. after all that money i've dropped there in the past month. I requested to speak with a manger and she was just as oblivious to the concept of friendly, helpful customer service. I would rather go to the expensive art store or to Joannes Fabrics. read more

Horrible service! I called for an item and I was placed on hold for 27 min. I called with another phone to tell them I am still on the other line. as one previous review said, michael's 'is what it is', i.e. a massive store with a huge range of craft supplies, faux fleurs, art supplies, jewery making supplies, wedding/party supplies, baskets, holiday themed stuff, frames and framing services, you name it. as such, it is always slightly chaotic at the store, but surprisingly orderly in certain areas, i've found. i think it depends on if re-stocking is imminent, or just completed. do print out the 40% off coupon off the web site, as this can save you a lot of money on one item, but not if it's already on sale. it appears their mounted canvases have suddenly gone up in price, so definitely get one if you are buying same. medium rate employees, their knowledge varies, not surprisingly. but in this day & age, michael's is a rarity for its exhaustive stock. yes there is a markup, but nowhere near that of other stores. shopping there can be like home depot before it changed hands a few years ago and actually hired employees who know stuff. but michael's is still remarkable for stocking such a range of weird & awesome stuff. re: the labyrinthine parking lot of this mall: enter the lot through the small side entrance on california just east of isabel, thereby avoiding the idiot drivers like the woman who was texting, head down, as her bmw suv rolled fatly along, running lot stop signs, etc. read more

I shop at Michaels a lot because I like arts and crafts, and they also have the 40% of an item coupon you can get in the Sunday paper or even print off online. However, the store itself is generally quite messy, with long lines at the checkout. This problem is even more apparent during the holiday season. Although that's to be expected, I think the problem wouldn't be quite so severe if there were either more workers, or more efficient workers. Regardless of those issues, its something you need to accept if you're going to come here, or any Michaels. The selection of merchandise IS extensive, and you can find so many great things. Although some items seem a bit expensive for what they are, the coupons totally make it worthwhile (although they're not valid on some of the electronic items or cartridges, which really sucks). read more

I am a huge fan of Michaels. This store isn't the best, but it's a Michaels and they've always got what I'm looking for! I have only encountered one rude sales clerk. Possibly the snottiest girl I've ever encountered, but the rest of the staff has always been friendly. The biggest problem with this store is the size. They have so much crammed in here that its difficult to find what you're looking for. It's even more difficult to maneuver a shopping cart through here. Parking is also a nightmare. read more

Come here once in a while to grab some random art supplies, such as decorative stickers and paper for a project or more yarn and new needles for basic knitting. I haven't experienced any problems with finding items so haven't asked for help from the employees. Jeesh, this is the closest craft store to hollywood where I could get glue on gems, crochet needles, baking sheets and thread - all in the same place. The parking lot is a nightmare and the store is in utter disarray. Half of the items on the shelf are missing, and there's no way you could gather enough of one item to actually finish a project. Makes me actually miss my Joann's in Torrance even though that wasn't that fantastic either. But you can't argue with the shallow comprehensiveness of this store and the fact that it's relatively close to hollywood. read more

I bought some generic poster frames here on a Monday night after 8p and had no complaints with parking or service. They have a large selection of frames (but they are quite overpriced). I caught a frame sale and got half off retail price on Michael's brand poster frames. I highly agree with other reviewers that you should look up and print coupons from their web site before you go. read more

My husband and I were in the area and went in to pick up a simple sewing kit and left with 3 items: a needle, thread, and safety pins totaling to be $10.80. The cashier handed us our receipt and not our bag. Thinking one of us got the bag, we left the store without our items. As we parked right in front of the store and had other items to load, we were in front of the store for at least 5 minutes. We went home and realized we both didn't have the shopping bag from Michaels. Distressed, we called the store hoping they would help us out because we do live a 10 mile drive away. We spoke to LIZANNE on the phone and she said there was nothing they can do for us. Personally having a background in customer service, I knew that there are always ways that can always be of service. LIZANNE put me on hold for the manager and I waited for 20 minutes on the phone, meanwhile calling on my husbands phone as well on the other line with the result of the line being hung up every time we called. This happened 10 times and we gave up and decided to get a refund the next day. They had the most horrible customer service when we went in and the manager LOLA was of NO help and assistance. There are so many people wondering around the store without any help. They didn't apologize once and didn't take care of the matter right away and put us in back of the line. They could've apologized to cause inconvenience and get our problem solves right away.. (That's normal good customer service). They refused to be of ANY help. They have horrible customer service and was of no help or assistance. I have never seen such bad service. Will never go again, nor go to any other Michaels. read more

I came here for one reason and one reason only...to buy ribbon to make a diaper cake. Low and behold the employees are "working" on the only aisle I came to the store for. I tried to shop around them and the girl tells me I can't be in the aisle because "I might fall" I'm thinking "bitch then get out of my way!" Doesn't apologize or give me an estimate of when she'll be done. I walked to Ross and come back and the idiot is still there I don't know what the hell she did because they only had about 30% of the inventory filled. Anyway I picked my ribbon and went to pay spent about 10 minutes in line...seriously on a weekday afternoon. Whatever. I really like Michaels. They always have really great sales and almost always have 40% off one regular item. I'm a teacher so I always get 15% off so it is my favorite place to shop for art supplies and etc. read more
