I'm new to Warhammer and still learning the lore and gameplay, so I came in with beginner questions. Unfortunately, the employee helping me (gentleman with a beard) made me feel like my questions were stupid instead of welcoming someone who's trying to learn. I understand my questions may have been basic -- that's exactly why I was asking. As a newcomer, I was hoping for guidance, not to feel embarrassed for not already knowing everything. I've visited other Games Workshop / Warhammer locations where staff were incredibly kind, encouraging, and made me feel excited to join the hobby. This experience was the opposite. I really think this store could benefit from being more welcoming to new players. The Warhammer community should feel inclusive, especially to people trying to get into it for the first time. read more

This is the first review I've ever written. I wanted to support this business in some way other than purchases, so here we are. This was my first experience in a Warhammer store considering I'm new to the fandom. I looked it up while on vacation, and I went in search of novels since I'm currently into the lore and not sure if I want to dive into The Hobby. I was happy to see they had an extensive Black Library section. Kyle greeted my wife and I shortly after we walked in, and I cannot sing his praises enough. Not only is he friendly, courteous, helpful, and patient he is also extremely knowledgeable. It was an absolute pleasure discussing the lore with him. Also, there were several games being played and if there were any rules questions the players went to him and he was like an encyclopedia. My wife isn't a 40k fan but she is fascinated by the miniature painting, so Kyle gave us a free demo and was absolutely wonderful throughout. He even recommended nearby stores and stores near my home so that I can finish out the Siege of Terra series of books. Incredible experience overall. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Hi-ya! The location is next to a Starbucks--so best of both worlds! When we first entered the associate was very friendly and was helping a new player paint his models. We've never been to this location and were very impressed with the selection, presentation and cleanliness. The associate asked if we would like to take a photo with the prop space marine chain sword and fantasy war hammer--of course I did! So that was neat to see and hold a well made piece of art. It was a pretty awesome experience overall as the kids all got to paint a miniature with the associate's help. As such, they all came back super excited to want to paint more. I can only hope they really get into warhammer...I see this as an amazing hobby investment haha. Unfortunately, the new sisters of battle were sold out. I've been a long time hobby enthusiast and have just recently gotten back into Warhammer ( a games workshop game). This store has been a godsend to revitalizing my passion for the game. The old store was in the nearby mall/ galleria and this one is very different from that. While still maintaining the cleanliness and atmosphere of a "Games Workshop". The biggest difference is the staff. **EDIT: the manager whom I was referring to has moved on or been replaced. The store has undergone some major and not so hot changes. The former manager was the guiding spirit behind the store. This guy knew my name after my first visit and each time afterwards I walked in he would greet me " Hey Zach!!". This attitude has lead to a great atmosphere. He would even organize local events, games, groups and stay open later for clubs. Sadly, he is gone. To address some of Elizabeth's concerns: Their selection is great, and the prices are noticeable. However, the store does not set the price, Games Workshop does. Any GW store in america will charge the same. Sure you can get them for JUST a bit cheaper online, but I'd rather support my local gaming store. Even online, prices are still close to the same. Closed on Mon/ Tues is a bummer, that's a no brainer. However, the sole staff member runs the place iron man. I think he needs a weekend too. No, it's not near a trendy 'intelligencia' or anything so hipster-tastic, but any gamer will be more than happy for coffee under 30 feet away. I don't think that any shop should be graded for what sort of clientele visit the shop 3 doors down. (barring major exceptions) I've downgraded my rating with their current changes. Rating this the same as the 'old shop' is a bit harsh, seeing it's a new location and new management. The new management seems less involved and more adhering to corporate rules and regulations which are very restricting. They went from THREE to TWO tables. A huge hit in the gaming available. Seeing as there's more often than not, hordes of kids, most adult gamers don't seem to get any gaming in. Sadly, the store is not nearly as good as it once was. I would recommend it to anyone getting into the hobby and game, as you'll meet some good people eventually. However, much of the more mature gamers (ie: not 15 year old) have moved on to greener pastures. There is not a lot of gaming to be had at this "games workshop". I recently started playing miniature games (DnD, Pathfinder, Etc). Being new to miniature gaming, I've been looking around town for game places. I was in the neighborhood a few weeks prior to my visit and saw the Games Workshop. I stopped by to check out the store and noticed lots of Warhammer games, and some Lord of the Rings miniatures. Obviously not the games I've been playing, but I am interested in learning how to paint mini figures. The guy at the store was very helpful as far as showing me which paint kits are good, and also showed me their top selling book for painting figures. I asked if the shop provided any classes on painting and unfortunately there are not. He did say to call in from time to time and see if there are any recommendations. Over all the shop was clean and well maintained. The gentleman I spoke with was helpful and waited to finish helping me out before helping out another customer. Although pretty small (and a bit crowded), it did look pretty cool enough to come back. ...Not sure when I'll be back to stop by again though. read more

A great places for newbies and pros. Shad is super gracious with his time and advice. We hung out here for hours one day while we learned to paint models. Every time he got a break, Shad would come over and give us tips and guidance. The shopping plaza layout is a little weird. I'm updating this review after several months of gaming & hobbying here. To start, this is an amazing place to begin your journey into the hobby. The community at this location is phenomenal - probably the best I've ever experienced in all my years of nerding (for reference: several years of Magic the Gathering, over a decade of PC & console gaming, conventions, social media, etc). The people here are genuinely stoked about the hobby, eager to share tips & ideas, funny, easygoing, smart, etc. - literally the polar opposite of the stereotype of the person who plays Warhammer. Shad - the manager - is probably the best thing that has happened to Warhammer on the West Coast. He has cultivated a top tier community of hobbyists & continues to do so through an incredibly positive attitude and outright eagerness to help & teach. He offers free painting lessons, provides walk-through tutorials of the game, and will provide you the best damn customer service I have ever experienced from anyone, anywhere, ever. Games Workshop, if you read these reviews, promote this man. Give him a raise. Do something, because this guy deserves it. I HATED the old Games Workshop in the Glendale Galleria. Sure it had more tables and space, but being in a mall it often served as more of a daycare center than a hobby center. This one-man shop, IRON MANNED by Mark is so much better. The lack of gaming and hobby space is REALLY shitty, but Mark himself is so pleasant that I find myself coming back month after month for the new white dwarf, and I inevitably end up buying a model or two while I'm there. The guy works six days a week like a machine, and always has a smile and warm greeting when you walk in the door. I wish every Games Workshop store had a Mark. read more

I recently got back into the hobby, and while I was hesitant to enter due to my old experiences with GW employees being very pushy and always asking questions, I entered. I was greeted by a very friendly manager, Mark! He is a very laid back guy who answers any questions you have and doesn't invade your space while browsing the store. I really respected him and every time I've swung by to pick up models he's remembered my name. This is the best place for warhammer in all of los angeles. The community is great and I've made plenty of friends just coming in here for a month or so . Shad, the manager, is the highlight of the store. He welcomes you when you first walk into the door and is always quick to help with whatever you might, despite being a one man operation. Shad welcomes players and hobbyists of all kinds, offering painting/hobbling lessons (for free) as well as army building advice, for new players he has demo games setup that he narrates with astounding enthusiasm. I have been waiting now we'll over the 20 day mark and can't even get an Email or call about my order, it has not shipped. I will NEVER use this "company" again and will instead drive over 2 hours to the only game store near me because at least a full tank of gas is worth actually getting what I need. I have also told my discord of 513 active table top gamers to go elsewhere and many of them agreed saying they have had similar issues not getting orders for sometimes 2-3 months. read more

I came to the shop today to start a new army - last time I painted Warhammer miniatures was more than 8 years ago. A lot of things have changed, such as the different kinds of paintings, some armies, etc.. Eric helped me pick up a few Space Wolves and the necessary colors for them, and gave me great advices about how to use and combine them. He was definitely friendly and knows what he is talking about ! Mark is the Guy who runs this place and as soon as we walked in he greeted us and introduced himself, he is super nice and answered all of our questions. He took the time to explain how the game worked and even invited us back to learn more about how to paint and play and to mingle with there experienced players. There was several people there painting when we went to the store and they where also very friendly and helpful offering advice and game knowledge as well. We've been Back several times and have always had the same great inviting experience and Mark even remembered our names which was a nice surprise which to me shows that not only does he enjoy what he does he's good at it as well. I can honestly say that this store has great customer service with helpful staff. I would totally recommended this store to new and old players simply on environment alone. Parking can be tough due to the Starbucks but if you get there before or after the coffee rush it doesn't matter and this is hardly the stores fault. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday which I'm okay with since Weekends are when most people have free time. As for prices, we've priced Warhammer items all over and generally there is not much of a difference from buying on line from actual Game workshop stores. All games workshops will have the same prices since prices are set by corporate and maybe you can find something on line from a third party for a few bucks cheaper but I'd rather support a local store and the local gamer community, besides after shipping you're not saving much. read more

Why do you suck at making me happy, Games-Workshop? 1) Prices seem to be based more on how good they are in gameplay rather than complexity, cost of materials/labor, or quality. This is very shoddy business tactic and adds additional pain when also considering the already-exorbitant prices. It's OK -- two can play this game! If you are going to charge outrageous prices, I am going to avoid those ridiculous prices by shopping on the secondary market (even though you have shamelessly tried to squash any and all secondary markets, which, of course, is a tactic that will never work -- as anyone with an education learns in Economics 101)! eBay: here I come! 2) There is literally only one person working at this store! I asked for help choosing an army and the prick of a manager told me that he didn't have time to explain the armies/gameplay to me. How can you run a store without enough staff to explain what the products in the store are all about? 3) I got the strong feeling that I was not welcome in the store and less I was going to buy something. I thought it was just me, but I asked to other people in the store if they felt the same way and they both gave me a, "You too? I thought it was just me!" kind of answer. The manager should really post a "no window-shopping" sign somewhere, instead of just being a jerk to potential customers. To further prove this point: I came back to the store a few days later and told the manager that I had a hundred dollar budget in the entire experience changed. 4) The manager openly discourages veteran players from discussing in-depth tactics, since such discussions are likely to make the game seem too elitist and over-complicated to new players. Sacrificing the conversations of your most valued customers in order to encourage new players to see the game as being simpler than it is seems like another very awkward and obviously dysfunctional business strategy that is clearly coming from upper management. In summary: I am really not sure how this store is still in business. I am pretty sure that they are still riding on the coat-tails of very good game developers and designers that are now long gone and clearly took their amazing sci-fi/fantasy spirit with them. Worst. No customer support. No warranty/quality assurance. Their site claims they will replace defective/missing pieces. However this is only true if you have proof of purchase. Which constitutes a return policy and nothing more. They even had the audacity to suggest I get the receipt from the person who gave me the gift. I can't say enough great things about this location. The manager Shad not only helped me find my way back into the EPIC hobby that is Warhammer 40k, but he also provided excellent customer service in the process. I was even invited back to the store where Shad personally taught me how to paint my models and provided me with everything i needed to start my hobbying experience. This Games Workshop is not only a great provider of Games Workshop products but a brilliant atmosphere for hobbyists. Every time I take a trip to the shop, I encounter multiple hobbyists gaming and painting. There are always contests, tournaments, campaigns, and other awesome events that the shop holds. I actually have a GW 30 minutes closer to where I live, and i find it more than worth it to travel to this one specifically. I love it there and I highly recommend it. The atmosphere here has taken a bit of a downturn. The staff change wasn't a big deal at first, but it got to the point where my friends and I pulled out and found a much more enjoyable locale to have Warhammer games. The number of store rules for playing a simple game have made it almost impossible to enjoy. Tons of youths still frequent the store, but the abundance of rules to curb their behavior has really put a damper on having a good time at the store. read more
