Michaels has always been my go to for most of my arts and crafts needs (Yes, I enjoy arts and crafts). This Michaels is fairly new and located in a good shopping center at the Shops of Stonewall right off of Route 29. There is always plenty of parking and the store is very easy to access. They usually put sale and clearance items outside so make sure you take a peek before heading in because you might be able to catch a good deal. One of my favorite things about Michaels is that they have a large selection of picture frames. They even have a custom framing, which I have yet to use, but looks nifty. When I need a picture frame this is one of the first places I visit. For the most part this store is clean and well organized. I've never had any trouble finding what I need and pricing is always clear. They do a pretty good job during the holiday season, which is when I find myself here the most. My only beef with this store is the employees. I've never been impressed with their customer service skills. Many of them are young and either don't appreciate having a job or don't care about their customers. They never offer to help or greet me when I come in. On many occasions I have witnessed them chatting about whatever and not working. I try not to let this ruin my visits and lucky for me I know how to find what I need and where to find it. Being black and placing your LV tote a shopping cart while you shop because your computers are in it and you are a heart patient survivor physically incapable of carrying the tote around the store is the definition of a theft. I have been a loyal customer at this Michael's for over 15 years and have never felt so uncomfortable, targeted and disappointed. It's ashame that being black is grounds for harassment. Another new store in a brand new shopping center in Gainesville - in the same shopping center as the BB&B in the previous review. This is the nicest Michaels I've ever been in. The layout is quite a bit different - the center of the store feels and is more open - with shelf units that are much shorter than other stores - so you can see around. Only the outer perimeter of the store has shelves of a higher height. The store was very well organized, clean, and well-lit. A large portion of the center of the store is dedicated to scrapbooking supplies and tools. I never knew there was so much stuff available for this hobby. It was also sort of strange to see that they had their Halloween stuff out in force. There were several aisles full of Halloween and Fall decorations. read more

Nice store chill employees the only thing that irked me was I went with my family to buy some flowers for my fathers grave. I wanted to leave as soon as possible to avoid traffic since an accident happened. A random customer came up and interrupted as I was trying to pay and was being very rude. It was already a hard day as it is. I was hoping the employee would tell the customer to wait as I was there first and he was asking way to many questions. So it added time. I was shopping for my yearly yarn haul when suddenly some children came up and started tormenting me! They started screaming "no yarn for you loser." They started taking my yarn and tying me up with it. SUDDENLY, a small boy descended from the ceilings, swinging from the strongest yarn they sell. He swung in and screamed "don't mess with a lady and her yarn." Before I could blink, he had tied up the bullies into a perfect crotched blanket. He untied me, said "it's ok Avery, you and your yarn are safe now" and kissed my forehead! I didn't even tell him my name! I like this "drug" den (i.e. anything craft related). I always start with the clearance items. The store is spacious and clean. The employees are nice. If you upload the Michael's app, coupons can be scanned from your phone (more than once). Bed Bath & Beyond, Dick's Sporting Goods & Weggman's are in the same strip mall. read more

How can you not love Michaels. The store. Staff is always 50/50 anywhere you go but the store itself is great. Seasonal selections. I love it. Very organized. It's the craft world of Home Depot! One walk in the door and your hampster wheel starts turning and you walk out the door with a handful of projects. Prices aren't bad. I guess it depends on what your buying.. The staff is nice, but they're very sparse so you end up helping yourself to get items off top shelves....eek! I just called to check on the status of a custom frame job that was supposed to be done at the beginning of March. The Gentleman I spoke with, said they called me on March 4th. That was right around the time of the wind storms and somehow I didn't get that message. I have not received another phone call since then to let me know the order was completed. For the amount of money that I paid to have my things framed. I expect a little bit better follow-up than that. read more

Wife and I are big Michael's fans and really like the store in Gainesville. However, I cannot recommend the custom framing service. Even with a 60% discount, the price was not cheap. When we got the piece home, we were astonished to see that someone had vandalized the piece by scratching a design into the painting, essentially ruining it. Needless to say, we will not be using the custom framing service again, ever. read more

I'm gonna get to the point quick. The ladies restrooms were disgustingly dirty. They have a little checklist in there that was checked off for that day-LIE. They looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Atrocious for a big chain like that. Don't they have cleaning crews that come in every night? This Michael's is perfect for artists and non-artists alike. It's just the right size with a good product flow to fully stimulate my inner artist, even though my attempts to actually be artistic could best be described as Level K (as in Kindergarten). The store has a nice array of unique and reasonably priced gifts during the holiday season, and many other cool items to keep even the most non-artistic person interested. There's also a ton of items to support aspiring and advanced level artists. Only one issue keeps me from giving 5 Stars, and that is their gift card policy. As the shopping days start to cave in during the holidays, gift cards become a necessity for last-minute shoppers. Unfortunately, this store only allows the purchase of three gift cards per transaction. I had to get a total of seven cards (4 of which were for Michael's), and had to do three separate transactions (for $25 GC's). Not a deal breaker, but I do wish they would ease this policy during the holidays (especially when it's for their own stores). read more

My kids just walked 1 mile to the store to get the 1 gallon glue and wanted to use the 40% off in any regular price item yhat you offer in the webside but they were not allowed. In the coupon doest say anything about the glue not been In the items that don't get the discount so I called the store and the manager didn't have any good explanation of what .y kids where not allow to use the coupon he just told me well the glue is not included! The Gainesville, VA Michael's Store has a nice selection, is clean, and relatively organized, but I was so disappointed by the customer service. It probably added an extra 30 minutes to my shopping experience due to the poor performance of any representatives. I'd feel okay going there if I knew I didn't need any help with absolutely anything. Extra Minutes: - 5 minutes: I find items behind a locked cabinet. I have to find someone who can help me. I don't find anyone. 2 representatives are at the cash registers. - 5-7 minutes: I can't find anyone so I go to the framing area where 2 representatives are working on the same problem. Neither of them acknowledge me, ask if I can wait, or try to find someone else who can help me. - 3 minutes: Finally, I give up and try to find another representative, wandering around the store. I tag one down and they say I can go to the aisle and wait while someone with a key comes to me. - 7-10 minutes: I'm waiting in my aisle and then around my aisle, hoping to see someone come my way. No one comes. - 5 minutes: I leave my aisle to go look around. The representative who told me to wait in my aisle is now at another cash register. I have to find another representative. I find one that is helping someone, so I wait nearby. I follow them at a polite distance. The representative helps the other person and leaves, not noticing me at all. I have to chase them down. Finally, I call out and they take me to the locked cabinet and let me get my items. I go to the cash register where there is only one person. I don't have to wait long for the register to open up. - 2 minutes: One of my items has no price tag. The cash register person calls another representative, who has to come and get my item, take it back to the aisle, and then come back with a number. The cash register representative punches in the number and the price comes out to $13.99. I know it's $10.99, I say so, and the cash register representative says that the item must have been sitting in the wrong spot. - 2-3 minutes: I'm tempted to just pay the $3 extra because I want to just get out of the store. But I leave my items at the register (since there's no one behind me), walk back to the aisle, check the price again, take a picture of the item and price, and bring it back to the register. They correct the price and I'm finally able to leave. I don't really like driving, but with the extra 30ish minutes I lost in this store today, I probably could have driven to another art store and had a much happier and stress-free experience. Either this store is understaffed and needs more representatives on the floor or the current representatives need to learn how to look out for customers that need help and do it in a more time-efficient manner. Most of them are going about their own business without an extra eye for customers that are trying to ask them for help or waiting around for them. read more

Their custom picture frames are EXTREMELY OVERPRICED! I found a much much less expensive place in Fair Oaks Mall, upstairs next to Lord & Taylor. Like everyone, I go to Michaels if I need craft supplies or some standard-sized frames. I've always been happy with their stock and can usually find what I need. HOWEVER, I find their custom picture framing services to fall woefully short of professional. I've taken a few pieces there over the years (though only one to this particular store since it's opened near me), and every time my experience has been mediocre at best. Without exception, every person who has every helped me with my framing has seemed uninterested or even bored. Once, I had a piece that I wanted to mount some coins next to, and the framing associate seemed irritated to have to go to the extra effort. I always wished that the associates would suggest some nice designs, but they never really did. They just asked me what I wanted. Did I save a little money on my framing? Probably. But am I satisfied overall with my pieces and my experiences? No. Two of the pieces I ended up getting re-framed elsewhere, and the others I'm still not thrilled with. It just stinks to have no other option than spending more than I did the first time just to get them done right. read more
