The second order none of the items that needed cuts were cut so I had to drive back again to have them cut. I was in a rush and figured, "they would remember to cut the parts" well I was freaking wrong about that. My truck gets 12 miles to the gallon and they are 18 miles from my house. This time I called because I was so ANGRY. They had a Dolly driver come pick up the parts and deliver them. Guess what... THE PARTS WERE NEVER CUT!!! WTF is wrong with this place? Last, they expect me to tip the Dolly driver when I wasn't the one who made a million mistakes and still can't get it right! Find another location cause this one has massive problems!!!

The new Barnes & Nobles Booksellers bookstore finally opened this morning in Gainesville, VA. It's a large B&N - much larger than the new one in Manassas that opened last year. And it has a B&N Cafe - which the new Manassas location does not have. After wandering the store, I picked up a hardcover of "The Silmarillion," one that I had not seen before. It's essentially re-packaging the outside of the book - but I wanted another copy. The checkout line was a bit long - there are 4 cashier stations. Paid with Apple Pay. Then headed over to the cafe to caffeinate. They continue to feature Starbucks coffee. I ordered a Venti cold brew with Half n' Half - and a blueberry scone heated up - to enjoy in the Cafe. Also paid with Apple Pay. The store has free WiFi available. I've been driving by this place almost every day for the past year and wondered what the heck is…read moregoing on in there. So this morning - I stopped in after breakfast to poke around. As soon as I entered - I was immediately greeted by Shadow - - the shop dog - a black Cocker Spaniel with long, fluffy hair on his legs and paws - so long that it looked like the legs of a Clydesdale! Very cute and friendly little dog! I met "Bev," the lady who owns and runs the place - she immediately came over to ask if she could help me - I told her I just wanted to look around. So there are shelves and shelves of ceramic stuff. Ornaments, figurines, statues, plates, mugs - anything that can be made of ceramic is here - but in an unfinished state. You have the option of buying something, picking out your own paints and glazes, coloring it the way you want it - then you have them fire the objects to "cook" the finish onto the ceramic. You can paint your stuff on the premises - or you can take it with you - paint it, and bring it back when you are ready. Could be a fun idea for an outing - take in a group - everyone picks out a ceramic item - everyone paints their item and then gets it fired in the Kiln. They also sell paints, glazes, clay supplies and such.

Last week was Spring Break for Loudoun County schools and my daycare provider follows their…read moreschedule so I had a week at home with my two-and-a-half year old daughter much to the chagrin of my graduate school advisor. Looking for things to do for the week this place popped into my head as I drive past it everyday on my way to work. We head out from home and get there around 10:30 to be greeted by Bev and Shadow as we walked in. Bev told us how it worked, there is one shelf with bisque items that are $20 inclusive and other shelves filled with lots of items with their base prices indicated. By inclusive I mean $20 buys you the piece, whatever glazes you want to sit and use and the final firing of the piece. Other pieces are priced by just the cost of the actual piece, you multiply that by 5 if you want glaze and firing. Most mugs, cups and plates I looked at would be somewhere in the $20-35 range, inclusive. There are tables with workspace, brushes and glazes and Bev helps set you up with a mat of butcher paper to work on, a tray of glaze colors and a bowl of water for washing your brushes. My daughter took a little while to warm up to it but she was having a grand time by the end painting her masterpieces (cupcake mug and heart-shaped plate). I painted the world's largest coffee mug for myself. We spent about an hour and a half or so and the total cost was $87, we picked up the pieces 2 days later. My daughter wants to eat dinner off them every night.

First of all, its located in a house - so you might miss the place at first glance as you are driving by. The first floor is almost all women's handbag's, jewelry, and such - which surprised me as I was expecting home decor stuff. Most of the home decor stuff is on the second floor, strewn throughout several different rooms. It's a collection of styles that are more ornate than my more modern taste - an eclectic mix of country and other styles. The fact that places like this still exist as a foil to the chains is a good and cool thing.
