This was my second visit to GreatGatherings - the first time was to see what they offered - today was to actually buy a few things for my bar. They carry a wide variety of entertainment stuff - bars, bar stools, bar supplies, glassware/stemware, pool tables, games, jukeboxes, patio furniture, and such. They have some really cool and nice stuff. The staff is friendly. I picked out some bar tools and accessories and went up to pay for my selections. I was the only person in line - I had 5 small items, plus a gift card to purchase. I kid you not, it took 4 people to ring me out - and it took them 10 minutes to do it. Windows kept freezing on both registers, and there seemed to be a distinct lack of knowledge on the proper procedure. They kept apologizing - after seven or eight minutes of this, I stopped smiling and saying "that's okay" to just wanting to get out of the damn store. If the the check out process had not been so screwed up - I would have awarded them 4 or 5 stars. 3 stars for a mediocre experience. I will probably come back to buy some stemware for my bar - I sure hope they get their *&^%$#@ POS problems solved and get their people better trained by then! read more

As a business owner and director of marketing and communications for many years, I know how important quality customer service is. I also recognize it when I see it and/or receive it. We ordered and received our bar set the other day and I couldn't let another pass without letting the management of Great Gatherings know what a good thing you have going on with some of your staffing. We purchased our kitchen stools a couple of months ago from salesman, Wes. He was so polite and accommodating when it came time to purchase the bar set, we knew we'd only deal with Wes when we came back for it. As with the first purchase, he went above and beyond when I made a request to see two separate pieces situated together (to give me an idea of how it would look in my home). With your strong "no return" policy, I wanted to be 100% sure before I paid thousands of dollars for something that just didn't look right once it was in my home. We came back to the store to see our requested set up, made some adjustments to our bar set line up and purchased it right on the spot. Wes assured us of your white glove installation service and delivery was set within a few days. Now, when it comes to your delivery and installation team, we were more than pleasantly surprised to find the entire team so organized, polite, and professional. It started with a simple courtesy call from Eric, your delivery team lead, letting us know when they would be arriving. They showed up within thirty minutes and were ready to go. Each one came out (with smiles and great eye contact) and personally introduced themselves, not only making me feel comfortable but also that they were capable of taking care of the job intended. We were their last stop of their day but it certainly didn't show. I was impressed already. The pieces were big and heavy and the care they took bringing everything off the truck and into my house was appreciated. Pieces had to be put together and were done extremely carefully. Again, it was the end of the day and I got the feeling that no one was rushing to get out. Only to get the job done right. When it came time to get the final bar top on, Eric struggled with it and then enlisted the help of Mike and Chas. I really didn't think it was going to get on the bar flush but somehow they made it work as a team. The icing on the cake was when Eric made a decision to make the bar top super strong by replacing the short screws that came with the bar with longer, stronger screws. We feel confident that the bar top will stay strong regardless of how many people lean on it over the years to come! Mike and Chas worked diligently and simultaneously on building and cleaning, careful not to leave one bit of trash behind. Honestly, it was the whole team that really made us feel like we made a good investment/purchase. Their demeanor with us as customers and with each other was extremely refreshing. You could tell they liked each other and how they made such a good team. Eric's years of installation experience shone through that day and we are very, very happy customers because of it. Good staff, like you all have, are hard to come by. They each, Wes, Eric, Mike and Chas are winners in our book and are wonderful representatives of your company philosophy. I would highly encourage you to do whatever it takes to retain them for the long term. It's service like that, that customers like us, will continue to come back and pay more money for over and over again. read more

This is now my third try to get my review to show up for this company. Not sure why but all the good reviews for Great Gatherings seem to be 'not recommended'. Our experience there was actually great. We did not drive our 'nice' car nor did we come dressed 'well'. Chris K. took care of us, helped us find a game table and chairs that matched our budget want and needs without any issues. The deal offered became even better and we could not pass it up. Hard pressed to find furniture of this quality with all the items for the price. Yes, the prices are higher than 'Target' but that is like comparing Pottery Barn to Walmart. You just don't do it. My experience went well enough that I will be purchasing my patio furniture / gas fire pit from them shortly. My daughter and I were out for some Christmas shopping in Gainesville and happened to enter thinking it was some type of Christmas themed store for some reason. As soon as we walked in I knew I was way outta budget being here! LOL. This store offers some amazing things. Let me tell you first about Joe. I'm sure at walk in Joe could tell I was not going to be a paying customer here but let me also tell you how much he didn't even blink twice about it! He ushered me and my daughter around the entire Great Gatherings. He was super kind, super informative and just a really nice gentleman. He spoke with us everytime we showed an Interest in anything. He knew all about everything...and in a good way. The dining room table that converts to a card table and then further converts to a craps table was genious! The table top shuffle boards were amazing. I had never seen anything like that. It was about 10 ft long and the play chips rolled like silk across the table. They also have one that is one sided instead of two sided so it's almost in the shape of a horshoe. A bit more strategic on this board but again, the chips glided over that powder so very smoothly. It was so delicate. Joe even played a game of shuffleboard with my daughter. It was so very nice of him and he had us feeling like we were guests in his house. Thanks Joe. We saw more of these glorious table games and then hit the outdoor decor. Very very nice! Sectional couches with matching tables using propane fire pits in the middle. I wish I had gotten a picture of those! Some had umbrellas that were just huge but not so huge to where they were gaudy. They were perfect size for the furniture and able to adjust settings when the sun moved positions. You could probably shade half your pool on an extra hot day. We had a fabulous time walking around with Joe. My daughter promised she'd come back after she got a job and buy one of his shuffleboards. I thought that was cute. We recently finished our basement and went to Great Gatherings to browse pool tables. As it turned out, we left after purchasing a pool table, poker table, bar chairs, several lights and a rug :-) . The staff was wonderful, they helped when we needed it and left us alone when we didn't. We have been back several times for a few extraneous pieces. Completely satisfied with our purchases, the basement turned out better than I had hoped. The guys who installed the pool table were there for 6 hours making sure everything was perfect. Order the 4 person round air hockey table for my 4 grandchildren ages 5 to 9 years old. UPS lost our table and Shannon and Jason re-order the table and it was delivered on 1/2/2018. The children love this table and play on for hours. The game is shorter that the regular 2 person air hockey table. This one allow all 4 children to play. THEY LOVE IT! First off. The second we walked in the door (my mother and I) the two men behind the registers looked us up and down and gave us a half smile. Just because we weren't dressed to the nine's (we had just came from a spa day) doesn't mean we shouldn't be treated with respect. We looked around for over 15 minutes and had to track down a sales person to inquire about a slot machine for a christmas gift. He had NO KNOWLEDGE of how the thing worked, how to re-use a ticket it prints out saying how much you won. He also told us they had NO boxes available to put it in and it was sold as is. We also asked why they didn't have any slot machines that spit out money so you could use it again and again and he became and angry and said "WELL GAMBLING IS ILLEGAL IN VIRGINIA" to which I replied, "funny because it's not, we have the lottery and bingo on Saturday nights at the Fire station"...... He just blinked at me and ran off somewhere else. You CAN have a slot machine in your house you just can't run a gambling operation out of your home.... After him again telling us there were no boxes to put the slot machine into so we could wrap it and continued to look us up and down and ask us if we knew how much it cost we decided to leave. We COULD afford it but with his lack of people skills and knowledge on products in the store we were done....... This was the second time he has behaved to my mother and this time I experienced it myself. I will never shop in that gaudy over-priced store.. Target has much better items and more bang for your buck.... read more

My wife and I bought some furniture from this store when it first opened. The sales associate was both very friendly and knowledgeable, helping us choose a patio set that we had for several years. Unfortunately, our patio table developed a crack that made it unusable. I mistakenly thought the table had a lifetime warranty, so I called the store to see what our options were. Though our table was not able to be fixed or replaced, the manager helped us find a new table we liked even more than the one we had, and at a very favorable price. He could've just as easily told us there was nothing he could do and sold us a new table at full price. The customer service we received during our visits was above and beyond what we expected. Though there was sticker shock with some of the furniture we were interested in, they worked to help us find the items we wanted and at prices we could afford. read more

We had the best experience with Shannon. We have an oversized deck and didn't know where to start to pick the right combination of dining table and seating/fire pit sets that not only fit properly but provided a good flow between the two. Shannon expertly guided us to two perfect sets that fit well together and provided enough seating and yet, enough room on our deck to navigate between the two. The customer service was the best we have had in years and we could not more highly recommend Shannon and the beautiful furnishings (and wonderful hostess gifts!) at Great Gatherings. I had a great time at Great Gatherings! I came in initially window shopping, but ended up buying several things. I decided to shop small and keep the big things in mind for later. They have everything. They have the best outdoor patio decor and in home decor. Most of the items they sell are high end and are possible "keep off" type furniture. Not that Great Gatherings wants you to keep off of them, but when you buy the item, it's nice enough to tell someone "keep off!". The employees were very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable about their products. I liked the fact that they had arcade games and popcorn. It definitely kept younger kids entertained! If you don't have a style in mind when buying a certain product, they have staged rooms throughout the store. If you are looking for unique things that make you feel luxurious or maybe just a comfy outdoor patio set to relax on, I would definitely give this place a try! read more

This store is a fantastic experience and I would l buy one of everything. I did buy 1 pool table. oh and a dart board. Our salesman, Steve was fantastic. Very professional, knowledgable and helpful. Just had the table delivered and installed this morning and had another great experience. Joey, Josh and Sonny arrived on time and again were professional, knowledgable and helpful and even offered to vacuum the work space which wasn't even dirty after their installation. They even took away all the boxes and trash brought in with the massive table. I love to deal with stores with great customer service and this is one that we will return to again and again. My husband and I completed a backyard patio three years ago so we wanted some patio furniture that was durable and complimented the investment that we made to our home. We were very pleased with the furniture that we ordered and we know we will enjoy it for a lifetime. We returned to Great Gatherings for a pool table purchase (a family Christmas gift), and again we were so pleased with the service that we received. We recently moved to the outskirts of Fredericksburg, so we were thrilled to know that they delivered to this area. The 3 delivery men arrived on the scheduled date early in the morning and began to assemble the table, only to realize that they didn't have the ordered upgraded piece needed for stability and padding underneath the table. They completed what they could, called the store and ANOTHER delivery man drove the single piece from Gainesville to our home, and the 3 delivery men RETURNED to our home around 6:00 after they had completed their other Christmas deliveries. They stayed until 8:00 that evening until they finished the job and to say the least...we were ecstatic!! In addition, a small table that we ordered had a screw that was the wrong size and it broke through the surface when the men were assembling it. They ordered another table for us and it arrived in a timely manner!!! Our whole experience was wonderful, and that is why we will return again to the store for future purchases. My wife and I were searching for a pool table as well as some bar stools. We checked all of the local places including Offenbachers, Great Gatherings, and some of the smaller billiards and spa shops. I also spent some time online but I knew I wanted an in person experience as I wanted to be sure the product was as it appeared to be. To make a long story short, the entire experience which could have been frustrating was very enjoyable and fulfilling thanks to the sales manager at Great Gatherings. We were blow away by the difference in product display, quality and staffing at Great Gatherings verus the other shops. Shannon Danforth greeted us as soon as we walked in. We were pretty clear regarding needs and budget. Shannon spent more time than could be expected reviewing product features and options as well as discussing our needs to ensure he was showing us the right tables and bar stools for our space. At the end of the day we ended up with a table, full accessory package, bar stools and several décor items in the store that caught our eye. I won't go into details regarding pricing but I will say that I left happier than I expected. Great Gatherings in Gainesville has excellent product to offer but even more impressive is the truly exceptional customer's service from their incredibly knowledgeable staff. We could not have been happier with our experience at Great Gatherings in Gainesville. We knew we wanted deck furniture and Steve Beaupre was most helpful. The table and chairs we wanted were delivered the following week and the Lloyd Flanders set were special ordered. Steve was so good helping me make a decision about fabric and color of the wicker. He brought over an umbrella that I wasn't sure would work, but it turned out to be just the color we needed to tie in the whole look. He kept us informed of delivery dates. This is an update for Great Gatherings. I am not sure why Yelp thought my first rating was not helpful or recommended. Our order arrived as promised and set up quickly and carefully. We were not satisfied with one of the chairs but understood this was a special-order item and could not be returned. Our salesperson and the company contacted the vendor and we ordered another piece at a substantial discount. It is uncommon for a business, especially a salesperson, to waive profit to keep a customer happy. We will definitely be repeat customers. read more

They had so many wonderful things to look at that I can't wait to go back. The manager asked if he could help us soon after we walked in and we told him we were looking for patio furniture. He pointed us in the right direction ( they have a lot on display) and gave us time to look. He made himself available to answer questions without being pushy. He was very knowledgeable and even moved cushions and pillows around so I could see how a set would look using colors I want. I ended up buying a set and he even threw in some free gifts! Purchased a Patio set from "agio" with a stone top in 2012 at a cost of approx$1500. Upon uncovering the table this spring we found several tiles had come loose and needed repair. Great Gatherings referred me to the manufacturer, who has denied any warranty repair stating that the "Seven Year Limited Warranty" as it applies to Stone Top Tables is "limited to just one year". Unfortunately I didn't read the fine print, however I would expect a high end sales rep might do something to extend that warranty. Apparently the manufacturer is Chineese and unwilling to do anything to warranty their product. "agio" is not what it appears to be! read more
