We wanted to order a new Master Closet Elfa system and decided to take advantage of the 30% off Elfa sale. I called the Reston store and made an appointment. We arrived and Nicole was our super helpful closet designer She listed to our requests and designed our closet for us. Overall, the experience was really great. Let me tell you! I spent over $6500 at this place for new Elfa Closets for my home. The first order was missing pieces and none of the items were cut so I had to drive back to have them cut. The second order none of the items that needed cuts were cut so I had to drive back again to have them cut. I was in a rush and figured, "they would remember to cut the parts" well I was freaking wrong about that. My truck gets 12 miles to the gallon and they are 18 miles from my house. This time I called because I was so ANGRY. They had a Dolly driver come pick up the parts and deliver them. Guess what... THE PARTS WERE NEVER CUT!!! WTF is wrong with this place? Last, they expect me to tip the Dolly driver when I wasn't the one who made a million mistakes and still can't get it right! Find another location cause this one has massive problems!!! read more

The manager, Liz, is the rudest woman we've ever met. She was unreasonable, unhelpful, and condescending. We left the store without our online purchase because Liz canceled the order a few hours before our arrival without notice. She had the products in stock on the shelf but refused to honor our previously purchased sale price. She was unwilling to work with us and refused to honor the price we paid in our order. First day open today!! This weekend they are celebrating the grand opening of the store in the Spectrum Shopping Center. The location is where Barnes and Noble used to be. We got to the store at 9:05 on the first day. They opened at 9am. The parking lot was already almost full and the store was already hopping with shoppers. The staff were warmly greeting customers at the door and were also helping customers by carrying out their bags to their cars. We previously ordered things on line and it was really simple to park in the pick up spot (there are two reserved parking spots to pick up with max time of 15 minutes) call the store to let them know we arrived, and have a store employee bring out our order. After the delivery I ventured in to check out the store. The store has a nice layout. A welcome addition to Reston. No longer do folks have to drive to Tyson's Corner! read more

What can I say? They have EVERYTHING here! Why not 5 stars? Their prices. Who needs a small bottle of bleach alternative for $20?! I fell in love with a 5-drawer filing unit. It was the perfect size to put on my desktop, and each drawer fits 8.5" x 11" paper. Saw the $99 price tag, and had to walk away. I'll keep my less expensive IKEA version, thank you. They have an adorable shoe stand for kids shoes, designed to look like a frog. At $20, I found this to be a pretty good deal. Office supplies in every color of the rainbow? Yes! Hooks in the shape of Moose? Check! One of the employees was walking around handing out store flyers. Come to find out, she's from CT, and her brother sharpened our knives at the Coventry Farmers Mkt. Small World!! All of the employees were very friendly and helpful. "Liz" completely ignored me until I asked her to show me some displays. She seemed very annoyed and told me she was working on a project and to call the store another time for an appointment. Worst customer service ever, from the MANAGER of the store. We had checked online before driving an hour to the store to make sure items were in stock. We didnt see them on the shelves so we asked an employee, who happened to be the manager, for help. She told us to order it online and then back back in a few days to pick it up. Went in for a consultation for a custom closet. The design consultant was ineffective in the ability to communicate. She didn't listen to what my husband and I wanted and she never followed up after emails and phone calls. Terrible service! Baskets, boxes, and bins! Oh my! LOVE the Container Store! They have a little bit of everything to organize any room in your house. They sell the Elfa organization system which I am a big fan of. I did a closet in my old house using it...I always said I was going to pull it out before I sold that house, but I was super nice and left it behind. We have also used the Elfa system in our pantry (spice rack for the door), garage and now a basement game closet in our current home. I will say that Home Depot sells a knock off version of Elfa. When there is an Elfa sale (there is always at least one a year) the prices are about the same as the Home Depot brand. Employees are helpful when designing your space in the store. They will add your space to the computer and you can always go back and add more to your space. Although we have gotten home and found that shelves weren't cut to the right length and in an different batch incorrect hardware was given. That being said they were wonderful about switching it out so it was correct. This location has a Starbucks attached so grab a coffee and browse until your organizational heart is content. read more

The people who work at this store are awesome. I purchased some things online. Unfortunately, a few of the items got damaged during shipping. Even though I took the stickers off, they accepted the items back with the order number from my online confirmation. This company has a very good return policy, allowing for returns up to 150 days after purchase. I wanted to purchase new items to replace what I was returning, and the sales associates were so helpful and patient in suggesting items and placing an order for for anything that was out of stock. The experience in store made me very excited about organizing and updating my home. This is such a great store with exceptional customer service. read more

I am that rich white woman, though I don't wear yoga pants out of the house. I would rather give the place two and a half stars because of their slightly bizarre and random customer service. They don't seem to want you to work with one person, so you end up with multiple answers to the same question. As for the birch shelves that I ordered? It turns out they are only birch on the bottom side. This is in case someone is spending time under your desk. He or she may become bored and look up. In order not to offend the eyes, the person will gaze upon a lovely birch grain. What I'm stuck looking at on top is an ugly butterscotch color. This is no fault of the employees, of course. I was sent over to the Reston store in the torrential rain on a Saturday to pick up an item I paid for at the Vienna store. The parking lot was half empty. At the front desk, I was not greeted, so I finally addressed an employee who was standing there (not helping customers) building something at the counter. I will call him "R". Unfortunately "R" is one of those sales consultants who act like they are doing you a favor by letting you shop at the store where they work. Sadly, Container Store seems to have a disproportionately high number of those people (not everyone)-maybe because they know the people shopping at Container Store are at heart disorganized and no amount of additional stuff will help them. Anyhow, "R" radioed another sales person who brought out a bag. Fortunately, I checked the item as I was leaving. I had been given the wrong item --not the l item I had paid for at the Vienna store. Me bringing this to "R"'s attention was followed not by a friendly apology or even a "glad you caught this" but a lot of bad attitude, "you will have to pay more for the larger one" (no, actually I had paid the correct price-they put the wrong one in the bag). He called another person to handle it who had no idea what was going on. And, I had to beg for a bag for this item that I was about to leave with and take out of the store in the pouring rain. By the end, I wanted to return all the overpriced things I had purchased from the Container Store--even the ones I bought in Vienna. Two stars, if you are not getting value, at least you should get service. read more

We were walk-ins looking for design assistance during the Elfa sale. Our designer was patient and knowledgeable. Due to current supply issues, we interacted with numerous staff members during exchanges and pickups. Each team member was professional and helpful. They had a recent system outage, supply issues and like many retailers are a bit understaffed but they all seem to be working hard to make up for any inconvenience. read more

Well, I try and stay out of this place as it could be dangerous in giving me ideas of how to organize especially now that I don't have to trek over to Tysons. So I came because I need to return some cleaning spray that I bought a while ago and then tried to use and the spray nozzle didn't work. I got 1-2 spray and nothing. I didn't have the receipt but the cashier said she could give me store credit while was fine, I figured I could find something. This store seems smaller than the Tysons location and the aisles seem narrower, but still a great selection of organizational items. I ended up buying a box to store my Christmas ornaments since we actually bought a legitimate fake tree and I bought a thing to keep the Christmas lights from getting tangled. When all was over I used up my credit and had to pay a few bucks out of pocket. They did enroll me in some rewards program but the cashier also told me the other perk was that if I was returning something and didn't have the receipt I could still get my money back. So I was like great! Overall, I'm happy I don't have to truck over to Tysons but word of warning, the parking lot tends to get kind of packed, I was there mid-day on a Friday and the lot was pretty full so I cannot imagine what its like on the weekend at this shopping center, that might be the one big downfall for me at least. read more

It was formerly a Barnes & Noble, and I had signed the petition a long time ago to keep the bookstore alive rather than turn it into a giant storage cabinet. That said, going to the Container Store near Tyson's was always something I looked forward to and got excited about. But for the longest time, I refused to go to the Reston location because I loved the bookstore more. Finally I realized I was being silly and checked out the store. I really only looked in the kitchen section, but it seemed smaller than the Tyson's location. I use to love this store...items were well stocked and the people who worked here were always kind and helpful. But I recently had two situations that are turning the tables on this place. Two months ago, I had to place an in-store order. They were out of stock on one item so I ordered the item through the in person sales clerk who told me that it would be available for pick up in 2 weeks. So when two weeks rolled around, I walked back in. The first clerk greeted me and asked if I had a pick up order. "Yes" I said. She asked to see my email confirmation . I didn't have one and didn't know that I should be looking for one. She got upset and said again that I needed one. I reminded her that I didn't have one, explaining why. She said she couldn't do anything if I didn't have an email confirmation. So I asked to see the supervisor(I know...not my favorite thing to say). I told the supervisor the back story and said the clerk from two weeks ago told me a larger shipment would be arriving. The supervisor confirmed that it had but no one set one aside for my order. I would need to wait another 3 weeks for this order. I asked if there was another way to get the item. She said there wasn't. I had to wait. So I left and decided to call customer service. They were able to send me one directly to my home. It arrived within 2 days. I chalked this overall encounter up to a general bad day. It was busy. There was a miscommunication. Things happen. The other day I walk in and discover they have renovated. The item I need is no longer where I'm use to finding it. So I go to search for a sales associate. I find one around the Elsa area and describe what I'm looking for. She immediately dismisses me and says "that item is discontinued". I tell her the website said there were several in the store. She was quick to answer, saying if there were any they would be in the clearance section. As I walked back to that section (without the associate), my kid commented that she seemed kind of mean. Though I told him that maybe she was having a bad day, I was grateful he observed the same behavior I saw too. Regarding that item, it wasn't in the clearance section. I ended up calling the Tysons store that not only had 12 in stock but said the item was not being discontinued but rather they are updating the line. I'm not sure if the store has gone under new stricter management or if I am having terrible luck here. Either way, be sure to come here prepared . read more

We wanted to come in and see the new Container Store and we loved it! I've never been in one before and it was really awesome. Around every corner my husband would exclaim, this is what we need! There are plenty of staff and we were happily greeted. Lilly was really enthusiastic about the new items in the store and offered to get us a cart. We ended up buying a baseball case, a football case and new sponges. And we had a fast and easy check out. We'll definitely be back! read more

This is a decent container store but pretty smell compared to others I have visited. That being said, they had everything I needed. And an added bonus was the man who checked me out. My previous experiences with this location were fine. For this reason, I visited at 6:30 PM this evening. What was to follow was by far the most weird customer service display that I have ever seen. Let me continue ... The store had virtually no customers visible at that time. The sales people were around the front of the store and were engaging and asked how they could help. My objective this evening was to purchase some basic Elfa shelving for a pantry closet. Everyone has heard of the Soup Nazi, well that person was replaced with the Elfa Nazi. I started to discuss my simple needs with the sales associate when she then had to gain approval from the "EN" to be allowed to work with me. I thought that odd but I went with the flow. I worked with the associate for less then 10 minutes and approved the price to get this project complete so that my contractors could install the shelving over the next few days. The "EN" was brought back to approve the order and had to gingerly tell the "EN" that he is aware that "we are very busy". I said that it does not look like you are very busy. I was then corrected that there are Elfa orders before mine. The "EN" was clearly controlling the associates and said that "I might be able to have the order ready tomorrow (Thursday) after 4:00 PM". I replied by saying that I could then pick it up on Friday morning. I was then TOLD by the "EN" that NO you cannot pick it up on Friday morning. This entire experience was becoming really weird. The staff members were brainwashed by this assistant Manager and now thinking that this is actually the way to do business. My reply to the "EN" was that this is getting really weird and that the correct response would have been to say, sure, we can have it ready for you when you come in on Friday. Once again, I reiterated that this entire experience was really weird. She, the "EN" could barely take her eyes away from her computer but uttered that there was noting weird about this. I knew that this individual in this store has very serious control issues and has no ability to provide any level of customer service beyond her running her Elfa World and convincing her co-workers that this is how it is done. I told her and the surrounding associated that this was beyond believe and that I had no interest in placing an order under these circumstances. I will certainly not judge the entire company for such a poor hire. I expect that I will either obtain my shelving tomorrow from one of the big box stores or perhaps shop at the Tyson's Corner store. There is no way that there could be a "EN" in another store. I hope that the store manager will read this review and really evaluate what occurred. At the end of the day, I have no reason to convey anything other than what really took place. I sincerely hope that this store will eventually remove the bad apple from the bushel. I have had positive experiences with other associates during daytime hours in this location. Good Luck! read more

I've been a fan of the Container Store since I first discovered them in Dallas in the 1990s. I was THRILLED when I saw that they had expanded to Reston (since the Tysons store is such a nightmare to get to with the METRO construction). I'm starting to fix up my 1970s condo for resale later in the year, so I took advantage of the annual Elfa sale to purchase closet organizers. I walked into the store on an icy January evening and was immediately greeted by an employee who walked me over to the Elfa area and introduced me to Sandy, one of their Elfa experts. Sandy was fabulous -- equipped with my measurements and some photos I'd brought with me, and after asking some excellent questions about my budget, habits, preferences and long-term needs, she helped me design a fabulous layout for my four closets. She provided me with a quote and emailed my plans to me so I could review the drawings in my home (and double-check the measurements). Two days later, I returned to the store to place my order. This time I worked with TJ, who helped me make some alterations to Sandy's plan before updating the quote. Satisfied, I place my order, which included delivery and installation. While the Reston store only handled the design and sale portion of the transaction,I have to also recommend the Container Store staff members who delivered my items, and the Container Store subcontractor who did the installation. In both cases, people showed up on schedule, were extremely professional and helpful. I am so thrilled to have this fabulous store in my own community, and am happy to sing the praises of the Reston Container Store. read more

I use there Alfa system in my garage that I originally felt was overpriced but now can't imagine being without it. The staff is always helpful.I took a star away only because of an online order that was not ready on arrival. They usually have what I am looking for. Unfortunately, what they *never* have is someone who is able to actually help you. Every time I walk into this store, I see employees talking to one another, or if they are helping a customer it is in the Elfa section. So basically, as near as I can tell, if you're not there to drop $500 on a closet system, they don't bother talking to you. I have consistently found the Tysons store to be more friendly and helpful, and they generally have a better selection as well read more

There's also plenty of parking just in case my purchase is to large r heavy to carry home. I love that you can order online and drive up and they will load it in your car. I was very excited when the Container Store opened a store in Reston. Unfortunately, the new store lacks one key feature - customer service. I tried to return some merchandise that had a sticker with the purchase price on it, but the shift manager (Dec 1, 2013. 3pm) refused to honor the price I purchased the item for, instead he refunded the current discounted price. The price difference wan't worth me arguing with him over. What bothered me is that I usually get such great costumer service at the Container Store, but this manager's attitude really made me rethink if the Reston store will be as great a convenience as I originally thought. read more
