Came in on Friday night 12/1 around 5:30 PM and the staff was INCREDIBLY RUDE. The store was a mess, and I had a simple question. 3 women were standing in a circle talking while I stood there waiting. I made eye contact with two of them and they didn't acknowledge me until they were done with their conversation. When they finally, begrudgingly, helped me they gave me the incorrect Isle, and when I came back immediately to ask again, 2 were still standing there talking. This time I didn't wait and just asked the question. One said "oh I don't know then" and the other looked at her and said "what did she want, I can't remember." So rude. I just left the store and won't be coming back. I worked in retail for a long time and it makes me so mad when employees can't even do the bare minimum of their jobs, or at the very least be polite to customers! read more

As much money as I spend at Michael's every single year, purchase total today was almost $60., this has been my rudest experience with the chain store. While this Michaels is smaller than the one in Irvine, I enjoy coming here when I have a vague idea of what I'd like to craft, but don't exactly know what materials I'm going to use yet. The staff here are pretty darned knowledgable about the different kinds of materials, and what's available. I even asked one of the clerks if any of the other stores had this acrylic gem sheet in a different color, and she immediately let me know that the sheet I was looking for was discontinued and can only be found on eBay now. The Michael's location in Costa Mesa is a little smaller than some of the other stores but they have a great selection of painting supplies and canvases. I've purchased a ton of art supplies here and while I'm certainly no Picasso, the acrylic paints they carry more than meet my needs. They also carry a decent selection of other crafting items that are fun to browse through from time to time. The staff there is usually friendly and helpful when needed. Ordering items online and having them shipped here can be a bit hit and miss but for the most part is okay. I keep returning to this Michael's location because it always has what I need and is on my way home. Convenience and selection will keep me coming back! read more

I'm torn between my obsession for crafts and your high prices. Sure you have great stuff but half the time you are out of what I need or only have it in a limited color i.e. you only had red or purple large feathers yesterday. Big ups for the adhesive stick on jewels they are hard to find. A week and half before the holiday and you are already out of 85% of your Halloween stock. Having just recently reconnected with my artsy side, I've found myself shopping at Michael's more and more. Though I'm not able to satisfy all of my artistic needs (I make tin Dia de los Muertos nichos), they certainly are accessible for when I run out of or need paint and do have killer sales and specials. True, with most things available on the cheap via the interwebs, it's no surprise that Michael's charges "convenience fees" (how I like to refer to their slight mark-ups) but again - just down the street and really the only large craft supply store in the area. My only complaint is that sometimes stock is low and service slow but whatev's... the goods their hawking are not necessarily intended for a fast pace o' life. I create art, after all, because it's relaxing and fun and allows me to recapture the person I am (at heart, always), but am not (woe) in the daily scheme of the everyday (damn office job). I was in Michaels over the weekend. I went to get some photo's in frames and tee shirt put in a frame box. When I showed up The associates was helping another customer little did I know I would wait over 50 minutes just to be helped. She did tell me she would be right with me once she finished with her customer. My question for Michaels why do you have only one associate on weekend working in framing on holiday season? Finally I was helped by Mary Lou she told me the teeshirt box you install and purchase. I decided to go different route. Wow 50 min to find out I needed to go different direction. Mary Lou was not very helpful in answer our questions. She didn't know things to simply questions. Lastly I asked for manager left my number but she never called. Yup! I can get crafty and creative. Not that I will start making tons of stuff and join the arts and crafts fairs. But, I will make my own Halloween costume. I mean who needs to spend a crap load when you can DIY! That is what I did.. I made a mockery out of the Tapatio man by being the MODERN Tapatio Man! I even made my own Tapatio earrings.. Prices .. Dirt cheap!! Now, if you are looking to decorate for Christmas (as I) Then come here now! They have ton's of holiday DIY decorations and all ready made ones as well. I'm not really a hard-ass customer when it comes to craft stores, I wonder around, spend wayyyyyyyy too much money and buy a bunch of stuff I really don't need LOL. Seriously though, I don't know why I even bother coming to this store, young female workers are so rude and act like it's a chore to ring your purchases, their flipping coupon and apps hardly work with cell service inside the store (screen shot your coupons before you go in to solve this problem). I finally got the website to work and the cashier gave a deep sigh like it was such a bother to scan the coupons - seriously? Some of their employees need a LESSON IN CUSTOMER SERVICE, and putting on a smile even when you feel like crap because it's OUR money that pays your salaries, and it's really quite time you started acting like customer service matters. Love this place!!! Amazing for any crafty thing you may need to kids fun projects. Let's not forget the backing sections to =). Its so much fun to go into Michaels during the holidays. They decorate the place so amazing, that I wish I could have them come over a do my house for each of the holidays. =) They are a one stop shop. I can always find everything that I need. I just wish I could make some of things that they make. Oh did I forget to say that you can take classes at Michaels to. Do I need anything today? The cashier was absolutely ridiculous. I was with my mother who was returning, after waiting in line. While she was getting helped I grabbed two things that were at the counter to purchase and said I'll be right behind you, indicating I would check out then since I had already waited in line with her and proceeded to wait while she was being helped. The cashier said "actually no, there's a line that starts over there." Really? I'm pretty sure I waited like everyone else, and it was my turn, just because I walked up with her doesn't void my spot to check out if needed. This is the smallest Michaels I have ever been too. I had a mild moment of claustrophobia in one of the aisles, it barely fits two carts! When I visited the store it was a tad messy but I forgave them because it was near the end of the day. What is difficult to forgive is the cashier. At checkout she took her sweet time with her customer and when it came time to ring me up she rushed and said I needed to have my coupon ready because she doesn't have time to wait. On Jan 24 I took a document to Michael's in Costa Mesa and was helped by David. When I paid and was given my receipt I noticed the "ready" date was Feb 7th. I questioned David who assured me it would be ready in just a few days - the receipt just showed that date but it was not correct. I called back the following week and was told the dry mat machine was down and they were sending it to another store, but it would be just a few days longer. I called yesterday, Sat 2/7, spoke with David again and this time he told me his manager had just taken it to another store, the previous day, to process. When I asked how they could do business this way, David stated they "had over a hundred orders in the store". He was completely unconcerned about my order or the misinformation I was given and he did not give me a "firm" date when it would be ready. I needed the document for a small presentation today and have had to reschedule due to Michael's lack of customer service...in the framing department. Same ole, same ole. Looks like every other Michaels, but the staff is horrible. All I went there to buy was one tiny bottle of acrylic paint. The sign said "All Folk Art Acrylic Paints $0.89." So naturally I thought it was going to be $0.89 like every normal person who could read a frickin' sign. My paint was both Folk Art brand AND acrylic. I go up to pay and the cashier doesn't even know about the sale! I ask her, "Shouldn't this be $0.89? There was a sign that said so..." There was a line behind me and she had the audacity to ask ME to go check the sign again! Who does that? Just give it to me for $0.89 or ask someone real quick! It's NOT rocket science lady... I was so annoyed, but I really needed this paint so I went back to check (I almost ripped the sign off and brought it to her). Sure enough, I was right. I came back and she had taken a new customer, which was fine until I realized this customer had two returns and 3 exchanges... I was NOT about to wait for this transaction. Luckily the uninformed cashier noticed I was there and took me right away. I was thisclose to putting my paint down and leaving OR asking for a supervisor. How ridiculous for a bottle of paint! This place has lots of wonderful things to offer!!! We have a monthly "craft night" with friends and I always stop here first. My complaint is that there's never anyone to help me. When I do find someone they usually have no clue. One time they told me they didn't carry something and I saw it on the way out. The lines are always long. One of the better Michaels in the area. It is slightly smaller than the one in Irvine. I'd say it's about the same size as the one in Santa Ana. They've got all your craft and framing needs as well as other little goodies. I like to come here for yarn and jewelry making projects. They're cheaper than regular yarn shops and they usually have pretty good deals. There's a petsmart and trader joes so it's a really nice one stop shopping experience. The staff is friendly and helpful. Parking kind of sucks when it does get busy like today. It's a tiny lot. Otherwise it's a nice little michaels. read more

Worst framing experience I have ever had! I had 3 items custom framed. I called ahead to make sure they were done. I was told to come in one hour. I showed up two hours later and the order was still not done. I was shown two completed pieces and both were scratched and needed repairing. The plaque I had ordered and paid for was not done and would not be in before Christmas. It has now been two hours and I am still in Michaels waiting for my frames!!!! Terrible.... This Michaels location isn't very clean and it's not very big either. I feel like it was very disorganized in there and there was a super long line but only 1 cashier. She didn't call for help until AFTER the line died down. I bought a pipping set which was supposed to include 3 tips, and a couple of pipping bags to decorate a cake for my roommate's 21st birthday... when I got home and opened the box up, there was only 1 tip. It was partially my fault for not checking the contents of the box, but I expected all the components to be there. Learn from my mistake, DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING before you leave. Think of a chain that won't care for you as a person. You are just a number, the size of your wallet, and your values don't mean anything. I had my professional registration as an (Arizona arquitetura license) certificate frame broken and brought it back to Michael's to have them fix it. They took 45 minutes to place the order in the system. That is because if you have an order that doesn't fit into the prompts that their computer shows, the poor person who is helping you doesn't have a say in the decision making process. Right there is a sign of the kind of a "robot job" you can get by working at Michaels. Weeks later they called me to let me know that they had damaged my certificate. I had another brand new certificate (California License) I had brought along with this one to be framed as well. I returned to the store to see how we could work things out. I asked for some sort of compensation for having to come back to the store and not having my certificate on time for my house warming. Specifically I asked them to not charge me for the second frame since I had the inconvenience to have to come back to the store to solve a problem that was not mine. After the lady that was helping me called two people to see what she could done for me, she told me she had to call the district manager to decide what to do. After weeks of not having my certificate, of going through the trouble of calling the Board of Registration, to devote a time that usually is reserved to my rest since I work 14 hours a day, I got a call from the store again confirming that they wouldn't give me the second frame as a form of compensation, which for a chain like that is NOTHING. There you go. You are nothing. No consideration for your time or loyalty. Do yourself a favor. Next time, support your local framing store. At least the taxes you pay will stay local! read more
