Came in on a busy Saturday morning, and it was an amazing experience! I came with a friend and it was our first time in the shop. Despite how busy it was, Peggy made sure to not only greet us, but also show us new yarn shipments, her projects, as well as a tour of the store. She also went out of her way to show us different types of yarn that she thought would work well with our projects. I love how they offer a complimentary wind-up service as well as knitting classes! I'd also like to refute a recent negative review: The parking situation has nothing to do with the store, and I have never had an issue finding parking. Yes it can get busy in the parking lot, but it's nothing that waiting 5-10 minutes can't fix! Please do not let this negative review deter you from visiting because it was one of the most positive customer service experiences I've had in a while. I just started to get back into knitting and wanted to find store beyond the usual big brand stores. I came across this local specialty shop and absolutely fell in love. All the staff were very kind and helpful. I was thankful that they shared some tips & tricks about knitting and what to look for when purchasing yarn. I definitely found a lot of things I was searching for, on top of several items I never even knew existed. I loved that they have several completed projects made with yarn they sell. They sell patterns but she was kind enough to show me a website that has thousands of patterns available online as well. There were no secrets about the trade here. Everyone was very knowledgeable and willing to share. First trip here and I purchased several balls of yarn, books, and my most special piece I now own, the spinning yarn buddy in walnut. I am definitely coming back here in the near future. I can't wait to finish more projects and learn more about the world of knitting. Great yarn selection and the owner was very sweet. The only issue (for me specifically) is that they overcharge the yarn. Some are $4 more than the normal price of the same yarn and when you need to buy a lot of skeins for a sweater, that can really add up. I can understand their reasoning because they need to keep the business going and the location is no doubt expensive. However, it leaves a weird taste in my mouth considering other LYS do not charge THAT much more for their yarn. If that doesn't bother you, then this is a great place to go. It's friendly all around and they have a vast selection of yarn ranging from suri alpaca to linen to acrylic. 100% would recommend if money isn't an issue. read more

I must've gone in at an off time because when I did the person working basically went out of her way to try to not sell things to me and the other customer that came in. She didn't seem very knowledgable and didn't seem to like what she was doing at all. She basically encouraged us to go elsewhere, and... I took the advice. Usually I have no issues finding things to buy in a yarn store, but... I couldn't get myself to buy a thing. While stuff was expensive, it's Newport Beach so not particularly surprising, just the lack of "gotta have it" status of anything was shocking. Go figure. Great little yarn store that's tucked away in another strip mall. It wasn't the easiest to find... It's on the west side of Westcliff in the last strip mall going southbound before it turns into residential. The store is located on the inside of the walkway and it was very cozy! Staff was pleasant to deal with. Stock was much larger than Ewe+You and the store was darker here. They have a large table for community knitting but the yarns weren't easily organized. Colorways were on the two extremes, either extremely darks or loud brights. Well decorated and welcoming store but the yarns didn't seem very well curated compared to the other stores I frequent. read more

Drove over 20 miles specifically to go to this shop. There was absolutely no parking couldn't find it. The place is a trashy parking lot never saw the shop. This trip was a total waste of time. Wonderful yarn shop with lots of choices. Peggy, the owner is very helpful and friendly. The people that work there are just a friendly as well. This is my favorite knitting store. They offer lots of fun classes and are very helpful when it comes yarn choices and needle sizes. I have made some really nice items from the classes that I have taken and have received a lot of compliments when wearing the items that I have made. My skill level has increased tremendously with taking the classes from here. This is the only store that I frequent now, as their selection is so much better than the others. Christmas Eve the owner stayed late so that I could get a beginning kit, she stayed past closing time, didn't rush me and helped me pick out the best things for a beginner. I was so looking forward to visiting this shop. Upon entering no greeting. Prices were somewhat high although it did seem like quality yarn. Whoever was working the counter was too busy to answer questions or to wind yarn for another client. There were a few women there working on projects but only one person in line to buy yarn. I think she heard me say she was rude and then asked if we had a question. Very Unaccommodating. Disappointed. Visited the needlepoint shop almost next door and it was quite the opposite and so very friendly even though they had a group there working on their projects as well. read more

It is indeed very small, and easy to miss D: The Sheared Sheep is located in a tiny little strip mall in Irvine, and there's no indication of it when driving by whatsoever, but it's a beautiful little shop. Decent yarn selection, but less than Los Alamitos Yarn Co. and Liscat. However, the owner is super nice and helpful, and I like the environment and the knitting circle here. I got a good bit of a chuckle just from what I overheard while browsing through the store. read more

I heart the Sheared Sheep!!! So, I just started knitting maybe a couple months ago, and the ladies at the Sheared Sheep are just awesome when it comes to helping you out and being enthusiastic about the projects that you're working on. It's a very friendly, open environment, and it's a great place to start knitting if you've never done it before (Anni is an awesome teacher). Even if you're an experience knitter and just need some tips on your next project, this place is great. The selection is plentiful (and if she doesn't have the right color, she can easily order it for you). You go in, and you hear a lot of "What are you working on?" "That looks great!!!" etc. etc.. and you know that they aren't saying it just to be nice, but that they really mean it. Oh.. and Shelby is awesome too! read more

I went there for the first time here. When I decided to visit the shop on a whim, it was already 3:50pm, and I knew that they close at 4pm. I got there and sheepishly asked if they were closing soon. Well, the owner, Shelby, pleasantly replied that she was staying there for a while anyway. There were several shoppers there too. I ended up getting just a skein but it was like the best 30 minutes I've spent all week. The shop was very cozy, everything looked lively, and welcoming. I'd LOVE to go back very soon. =) It's relatively small, but yarns are very neatly organized. There are some knitting books (not alot but the popular ones are there). The service here is AWESOME. Everyone greets you at the door and makes sure that they know your name before you leave. They don't ever pressure you to buy any yarn, so you can feel free to browse around as you please. They even stuff the shopping bags with tissue paper for that little extra cuteness! Lisa and Shelby are great! I recently spent TWO hours there, picking out the perfect yarn for all my Christmas knitting presents and Lisa gave me the low down on the best yarns for my specific projects. If you ever need help on a project, there is always someone there to help you out. I'd go during the weekday though because this place was very busy when I checked them out on a Saturday morning with knitters in every seat! The Sheared Sheep even has this cute sign inside that says "Knit Faster, Buy more Yarn" that just cracks me up. This small, intimate and cozy yarn shop that really make you want to grab a chair and start knitting right away. read more

The service at The Sheared Sheep is second to none. Even the people who aren't working there are happy to help you, and have helped me. The selection is good, and is primarily catered to sweater and scarf knitters but they do carry a few varieties of sock yarn. There are no hand-dyed rolls of yarn here, but they actually referred me to another store. Any establishment that is so kind with their customers to give referrals is A+ in my book. There is a very kind community of knitters always in the shop on the weekends. Once I get older, I'll probably join them :-). read more

They do have a great selection and its smaller so you can get more help. It was on my third and forth visits that I really started to appreciate the this place. Went into their new location today. Super cute!! The store has an open, light vibe. Not only did the owner make me feel welcome, but the group of social knitters sitting around the table did too. It said a lot to me because having a group that is THAT friendly tells me how much they love the store. I instantly regretted not bringing my knitting with me or I'd have pulled up a chair and joined them. The owner disengaged from the social knitters and sat behind the register as I shopped. I liked it because it let me know who I could ask questions without having her pounce on me and trail me around the store. I chose some handpainted yarn and some Cascade. The owner chatted amiably with me as she totalled my purchases. The one downside is that they didn't have a bumpin'ly big inventory, still the positive vibe will bring me back. RECOMMEND read more

A lovely little knitting shop located down a little walkway between two buildings (look for the sign on the awning and walk all the way back). Parking was a bit difficult but we managed. We walked in and loved the warm cozy feel with a large table inviting people to sit, knit and chat surrounded by a lovely array of yarns from all over the world. Several walls feature cubby holes full of amazing beautiful knits - from cashmere to cotton and plenty of samples so you can see how they knit up. Lots of notions available too - and of course plenty of the hot new trend in knitting: oversized yarns and needles. Friendly staff invited us to enjoy and offered to help several times.
