Do not trust this store with your precious art. I had a large piece custom framed - the project was around $2k. When I picked it up, the art was completely detached from the frame. When they "fixed" the issue (without telling me what this would entail), the back of my $2k custom frame was covered in glue very hastily. I feel completely ripped off that I paid that price for a frame that is now broken apart / glued together. Because of the negative space around the print, the glue is visible from the front. It looks awful. Ava (who framed this) was so rude and only wanted to gossip with her teammates in the back rather than lift a finger. I couldn't get anyone to answer the phone and was always brushed off when I asked for additional help. This was a terrible experience, take your framing business to people who will care. read more

I love michaels. My mom used to take me here. It's nostalgic down to the common pine cone scent. But what has it become? There is apparently one lady working here, no greeting as I walk in with two little kids, then it's time to check out, $80 for a few crafts. and I have to check out all the items while white haired lady presides over the registers in silence, no help of course, and not even a word until I'm almost done and she says, do you want to buy a bag for fifty cents? That's her choice job now, I guess. So then my 4 year old son is helping put the items in the one bag and the box of crayons bottom falls out. "oh, looks like one of them broke" is all white haired lady says. Not a "let me get you a new box," or any help picking them up, or even a light hearted joke. Why is this lady here except to create an environment for suffering and be the arbiter of it? It would have been a much better experience if she were gone. Michael's does not pay me to do self check out but if I have to do it, I'd prefer there not to be a cold, silent matron making you feel like you're doing something wrong and having you pay for a bag you didn't ask for. Had to get some random things. We wanted to see if they sold black out curtains. And they do not. We did find the other item we were looking for though. We found the black cardboard we wanted for a project. Found exactly what we were needing! Later that day, my boyfriend used a box cutter and cut it down to size. It worked perfectly for the project. Wooohooooo We are happy with how it came out! They only had one cashier working. The rest of the checkout section was setup as self-checkout. Is this the future? Where we all just use self-checkout instead of having a living, breathing human to assist us? Maybe. In any case, it was pretty quick and easy to get in and out. They didn't have a quality selection, but I was so eager to get rid of the mat I had that I was happy to select a so-so mat. Ten dollars [cheap enough]. Told they needed two days to cut it. [Meant ANOTHER trip to the store.} Picked it up three days later. Doesn't fit the frame [too big - obviously not measured precisely, plus the inner cut for the photo is not straight, but slanted. I can trim the outer edges just fine, though nothing I can do for the inner cuts. Tried calling them at the main number. About 20 rings later they answered. Asked for the framing department.....after another 20 rings I gave up. I've wasted too much time. read more

No one works in the custom frame department anymore. I went to the Costs Mesa location yesterday to have 3 custom frames made. I was told someone would be there in 20 minutes. I could not wait. Today, I drove to Hi ringtone Beach location. Again, no one was on duty. Both location s, I asked if I should call first to confirm someone would be there. Both time I was told that there is no need to call ahead. Someone is always there. Well both times I drove out of my way, there was no one there. Unfortunately, this Michael's is severely understaffed. Whenever I go in, I only see 2 people working. It is impossible to have a store run at this size with two people. The lines are always long. The trash is never taken out. This is not the employees fault, it is the managers. The staff cannot work how they are meant to with only two people. It is cruel to them. I asked my husband to bring me over here so I could hopefully purchase certain yarn on clearance. That's always a hit-or-miss proposition, so I walked in with fingers crossed. Unlike my local Michaels, this store has three clearly designated Curbside Pickup parking spaces right outside the entrance. Park, call the phone number, give your space number and order info. Very efficient setup. Once inside, you see carts and handbaskets, many of each, alongside a DIY station with wipes and gel sanitizer. I am loving this place already! It's smaller than my local store but still merchandised in such a way that you don't feel crowded or pressured to buy things. I didn't see a clearance section for yarn, though the items I came to find were clearly tagged on a fixture in the main aisle. Admittedly, I did purchase 75% of what they had BUT I *also* left one cake of each colorway so somebody else could find a little joy, too. It's bad karma to clean the place out. ;) My husband found a wacky throw pillow depicting a cow wearing a crown of flowers. Normally $30 (ouch) on sale for $17.99. We're a coffee mug and chill w/pillows kind of family, so we couldn't pass this up. Consider it bovine intervention. A super-nice sales assistant helped him work the price check machine, so we had good luck there as well. We noticed three assistants working on the floor, one person back in framing, and one at the till up front. So, good coverage for a Sunday night. We weren't able to find any funky/clever coffee mugs, which was a disappointment. The St. Patrick's Day display was on the scant side, though I did like the selection of t-shirts. More family friendly and less to do with the drunken aspect of the day. Think Lucky vs. Gettin' Lucky. Our checkout assistant was very kind and friendly. Efficient, too, though my one caveat was needing but not receiving another bag to contain the rest of our purchases that didn't fit into my own bag from home. Bit cumbersome walking with both hands full of items out to the parking. Still, we really enjoyed our time here and plan to make more trips in the future. This place would get five stars if two things improved; the employees attitudes and the stores joy. 50/50 with employees. The two women were decently helpful. The man this week, not so much. He was pretty annoyed with being there. He had a scowl on his face and made me feel bad about imposing on him to check me out. Perhaps it's management, or pay or both, but I go there for fun crafts not to 'bother' someone. That's how it feels. The store needs an update. Cleaner new floors, improved lightening, could go along way. Also, playing sad love songs makes customers want to leave, f.y.i. I a want happy, upbeat environment. I still come back time and again, but I'd love the store to improve. As far the crafts, I love to come here for inspiration, paint, party supplies, paper for scrapbooking, and seasonal items. They've been moving the store around and adding in some new things. You'll see in my pictures the farm house style decor, which is really cute. Martha Stewart party supplies are adorable! 12/19/2019 - this place frustrates me because I did an online order with in store pick up. the staff did not bother to acknowledge that i picked up the order on 12/1/2019 and then last week, I get an email saying that I am being refunded the amount that i spent on the items. I had to ask to speak with Manager Mike Berry in order to get him to call the corporate office and ask corporate to reverse what was done, but they aren't able to do it. I had to personally go back into the store to give him the $16.16 that should have been charged to my credit card since I already picked up the bows, but Mike's team messed up and caused me to waste time coming into the store again just to pay them the $$ in cash. PLEASE GET IT TOGETHER, SO THAT CUSTOMERS ARE NOT WASTING TIME RECTIFYING PROBLEMS THAT YOU GUYS CREATED. Would rate 0 stars if I could. Came here looking for something specific and I tried looking for it on my own. After searching for awhile with no luck, I searched for an employee that could help me. I could not find anybody except for the cashiers and there was a huge, long line. I searched every isle until I found a woman opening boxes near the fake flowers. I kindly asked her if she could help me find something and she SIGHED, rolled her eyes at me and slammed the box cutter down on the boxes.... like I was so rudely interrupting her by asking for help???????? She legitimately said to me "idk, you could try that isle" as she pointed vaguely over to her right. WHAT?!?!?!!??!! You're the only employee on the floor and you won't help me at all? And get mad at me for asking in the first place??? What the hell?????? I work in retail myself so I know how to treat people inside and out of my job. I am always kind to others at any business I go to, because I too deal with the worst kind of rude people and want to be an easy-going and kind customer to others. Awesome place to find Christmas Decor. Daisy is the bestDaisy was so patient with me while digging through my purse to find coupons. Daisy helped me find coupons on my phone from emails. Daisy also explained to me each and every discount that would apply and be more helpful for me at the time of my purchase. Daisy was also extra careful when bagging my merchandise. While being a passenger in the car, I happen to see this Michaels while coming back from checking out Newport Beach. Because I needed a few things for Mother's Day, we decided to stop here and check it out. Pulling in, we noticed how small the parking was. Michaels and Pet Smart are the only stores here that share this tiny lot. At the time we visited, it wasn't very busy so it was easy to find a parking spot. Walking inside, we figured out why the parking lot was small. Compared to other Michaels I have visited, this Michaels isn't relatively small. It seems a like a lot of stuff is crammed in here. There was a whole section of store I didn't see at first because all the stuff crammed in the middle of the store had made it a maze. Unless you went exploring, one would probably have missed it like I almost did. I don't know if it's normally like that or not. I found most of the items I was looking for, which was pipe cleaners and some individual card stock and was pleased with the amount I spent, which was only $1.50. The place was clean. Packed with stuff, but relatively clean. The employee that I encountered was nice and helpful. But I think, overall, that if I lived in the area, I would probably try to find either another Michaels or maybe another craft store before coming to this one. read more

Kelly in the framing dept is great! She is so nice and knows what she is doing from years of experience at Aaron Brothers. I worked at AB 6 years ago so I know about framing. I had a little certificate to frame but thought I would shop around for best pricing. Went to a local custom framing place on 17th. The owner didn't know the benefits of Museum glass and said its not worth it. So not true! UV protection, clarity, and anti reflection is worth while when custom framing. The quote came out to $150. Michaels is doing the exact same quality and specs for $90. I will stick with Michaels framing from now on. No need to go elsewhere! read more
