My fiancé began his ring search knowing almost nothing about diamonds but was willing to explore…read moreand learn. He visited several jewelers across OC, from large retailers to family owned stores and even some that were recommended by other friends/family but none compared to the genuine care and honest customer service he received from Kathy and Jenny here! I came with my fiancé on his first visit here to get sized and choose some shapes that I preferred. Kathy patiently walked us through sizing and explored different shapes with zero pressure and so much patience. We loved how relatable she was and how natural and genuine our convos went! When he returned on his own, Jenny took her time to educate him fully and showcased her expertise (being in the business for 30+ years) and made sure he truly understood every detail, not just the 4 C's, but things other stores never even mentioned so he could feel confident making such an important decision. They actually encouraged him to even take his time and check out other places to make sure he was confident in his decision. This kind of customer care made all the difference! I didn't see the ring until the proposal, and it was absolutely perfect! But what makes it even more meaningful is knowing how much thought, care, and intention went into choosing it and how much of that came from the guidance he received there. I really can't thank both Jenny and Kathy enough for making his experience so smooth and seamless! If you're starting your ring journey and feel overwhelmed, go to South Coast Jewelers. They don't just sell you a ring, they make you feel confident, excited, and taken care of which makes this kind of experience so much more priceless.

He felt judged right away, as if they didn't really want him as a customer. He was genuinely interested in finding a ring and doing business with a local jeweler, but it felt like he was underestimated from the start, which was disappointing. What made it more upsetting was that this is an Asian-owned establishment, yet the environment felt very judgmental and uninviting. During that first visit, they offered to email him the paperwork with ring details and sizing information--but we never received anything. At that point, we were still actively shopping around. When I later went back with him, the staff seemed slightly friendlier once I was there (I'm Asian), but the overall vibe was still the same--very cold and not particularly interested in helping us or earning our business. Again, we asked for follow-up emails, including the GIA paperwork and details we discussed in person, and once again, nothing was ever sent. In the end, we decided to skip this jeweler altogether and take our business elsewhere. Honestly, I'm glad we did. A big purchase like an engagement ring should feel exciting and welcoming, and unfortunately, that just wasn't the experience here

However, reaching out to Manny eased all those nerves. He explained the process patiently and reassured me that everything would be fine. He was incredibly understanding and took the time to work with me gently. I was unsure about which type of diamond to upgrade to, but Manny showed me multiple options. Since I couldn't see them in person, I had to trust his judgment, and he truly understood what I was looking for. I just received the rings today, and they are absolutely stunning--much better than I had hoped. If you're considering making a change, I highly recommend reaching out to Manny. When someone walks in to buy an engagement ring, they are trusting you with an important moment in…read moretheir life, and that trust was completely mishandled here. I came in just before Christmas because I planned to propose to my girlfriend on an upcoming vacation. When I first walked in, I told the sales associate that I was looking for a quality engagement ring and wanted to see their better options, since this was an important purchase for me. I also made it very clear that this was my first time buying jewelry, that I had a firm $10,000 budget for the entire ring, and that I only wanted a natural diamond, not lab grown. During our discussion comparing natural versus lab grown, she mentioned that natural diamonds are generally viewed more favorably, which reinforced my decision to stick with a natural stone. There was absolutely no confusion about my budget or what I was looking for. We went over it several times, a $10,000 budget for the complete ring and natural diamonds only. Despite that, I was sold a band for about $7,000 that did not include the center diamond, with very clear guidance that a natural two carat diamond would fit this exact setting and could be added as soon as I returned from my vacation, all within the remainder of my budget. I was told this would be no problem at all and that this was a normal process. I trusted that advice and planned accordingly. I also explained that proposing on my trip was the priority, and I was comfortable upgrading the center diamond immediately afterward, as I was advised. The ring itself was beautiful and the temporary stone looked great in the setting, so I felt confident proposing with it and completing the ring upon my return. I was genuinely excited to propose with this ring. My girlfriend loved it immediately, and it already carries emotional and sentimental value for both of us. That is what makes this situation so upsetting. I came back to the store expecting to complete the ring exactly as promised, only to find out that what I had been assured was possible simply was not. Now I am faced with the possibility of having to start over entirely with a different band, despite the fact that this ring is already tied to our engagement and the memory of that moment. What made this even more frustrating is what I learned afterward. Multiple other jewelers explained to me that in an engagement ring, the majority of the budget should go toward the center diamond, not the band. I was essentially guided to spend roughly 70 percent of my total budget on the setting alone, which left me in an impossible position from the start. While the band itself is truly beautiful, with very high quality and bright diamonds, I later learned that pairing it with a natural two carat diamond anywhere near my remaining budget was never realistic. When I returned to the store, and saw the same sales lady's buy the entire story changed. I was immediately shown a $15,000 center diamond on top of the $7,000 ring. When I reminded her of my budget, the sales associate became irritated and dismissive. Only after pushing back did she return with a noticeably yellow, low quality diamond and tried to sell it to me for $8,000, which made no sense given the quality of the ring I had already purchased. It felt like I was being pushed to accept whatever they could sell me instead of what had been promised. After that, I was told she would search and contact me within a week. It has now been over two weeks with no call, no email, and no follow up of any kind. Once they had my money, communication stopped completely. Since then, I have visited multiple other jewelers, and more than one of them immediately recognized the situation and told me they have heard similar stories from customers coming from this same store. They also explained that getting a nice two carat natural diamond within the remaining budget was never realistic with the quality of the setting I was sold. At those stores, I was educated, treated with care, and given realistic options. The difference in professionalism and integrity was night and day. What I learned through all of this is that buying jewelry should be an educational experience, where all the facts are laid out clearly so you can make an informed decision. At those other stores, I felt guided and respected. Here, I felt bait and switched, not advised kindly through a once in a lifetime purchase. Now I am left with an expensive, incomplete engagement ring and a situation that should never have happened. What should have been an exciting and meaningful experience turned into stress, disappointment, and feeling misled. If you are shopping for an engagement ring and do not already know exactly what you are doing, I strongly recommend going somewhere else. Clear communication, realistic expectations, and basic follow through should be the minimum standard for a purchase of this size, and unfortunately that was not my experience here at all.

One of my favorite pieces has always been the Opalite necklace. Over the years I've probably purchased at least five of them. At the time they were around $25, and now they're listed at $48 on the website. Unfortunately, the most recent one I purchased broke within a week or two. I stopped by the shop today to ask if there was anything they could do--whether that meant repairing it or offering a small discount toward a replacement. Nothing was offered, and the interaction I had (I believe with May Martin's mother) felt dismissive and uncomfortable. I was told the necklaces looked tarnished and was lectured about how to care for them. In reality, they had been sitting in a drawer for a year or two because I wasn't sure what to do after the chain broke. I understand that things can break and that policies vary, but customer service matters. Even a simple apology or a small gesture--like a repair option or a 5-10% discount--would have gone a long way toward creating a better experience. Unfortunately, the interaction left me with a bad impression, and I don't plan to return. I'd recommend looking for higher-quality pieces elsewhere.

Cristina had already been in touch with my fiancé beforehand, so when we arrived she had curated a selection of diamonds, ring styles, and settings she knew I might love. She walked us through everything with so much care, from explaining GIA certification and clarity to showing us real diamonds under the light so we could truly see their brilliance. Unlike other places we visited, Liberty Diamonds actually let us compare real and lab diamonds side by side, which made such a difference. Cristina also guided us through the custom design process, explaining setting heights, diamond shapes, and every detail that would make the ring uniquely mine. They even sent my fiancé a 3D rendering of the design so he could visualize exactly what the final piece would look like. I left our appointment feeling completely confident that we were in the best hands! Fast-forward to the proposal and I was speechless. My ring is everything I dreamed of and more. The sparkle, the cut, the craftsmanship... it's truly stunning! Cristina and Troy did an exceptional job bringing my dream ring to life. I couldn't recommend Liberty Diamonds more for anyone looking for a thoughtful, transparent, and genuinely magical ring-buying experience.
