In reality, they had been sitting in a drawer for a year or two because I wasn't sure what to do after the chain broke. I understand that things can break and that policies vary, but customer service matters. Even a simple apology or a small gesture--like a repair option or a 5-10% discount--would have gone a long way toward creating a better experience.
