I'm sad that Scrapbook Nook is no longer in my area but Michaels has been making me a happy customer ever since it opened up. I'm a big craftie so I can spend FOREVER inside this store. This location is WAY BETTER than any Michael's I've been to in the bay area. It's pretty huge and clean! Their space is more open - everything is SO ORGANIZED, making it easier to quickly find what you are looking for. If you're a craftie, like me, this place is craft heaven! I placed an online order for in store pick up which was canceled. I chatted with an agent who advised to contact the store directly. I call the store at 8:50am and an employee by the name of Francine answers and asked if it was possible the item I ordered was out of stock. She replied "Well if it was canceled, I would assume it's out of stock. but we don't have anyone to check for you until we open at 9." I'm a little caught off guard because it's literally 10 minutes until they open. Anyway, I call back at 9:15am and Francine answers again. She says "Honey, you're gonna have to call back after 10am. The store manager that handles the online orders doesn't come in until 10." I said, "I originally was told to call back at 9am when you open." Francine says "Give her about 10-15 minutes after 10am." At this point, it's not even about my canceled order, I just wanted to know if the item was still in stock. I frequent Michael's often and this is the first time I've ever had an issue. I was excited to use the new in-store pick up option and feel like I'm getting the runaround. It would have taken Francine less than 2 minutes to simply check if the item I wanted was still in stock. I normally visit the San Mateo store (their customer service is amazing by the way!). However, since I've moved, Daly City is a lot closer. I'll need to make the trip out to the San Mateo store to have a pleasant experience and the customer service Francine lacks. read more

I came into this store today just cruising the clearence rack for sales and came across some Caron Cakes yarn in the clearence section marked $8.49. I'm thought to myself $8.49 that's not a clearence price and it has to be mismarked. I check with staff who confirmed that price was correct. The problem I'm having is the yarn is labeled as was $8.49 and now $8.49. How is that a deal? Spoke with store manager (no name tag on shirt) that's tells me. Oh...this isn't an item we normally carry we didn't kbow where to put it. So i asked...so someone just marked it with an orange sticker and placed it in the Clarence section? Seems kinds misleading to me so I just handed the skein of yarn it was goimg to purchase to the store associate and left woth purchasiing anything. I really love michaels but no matter what time and what day of the week I go, there is a long line. I tried the buy online and skip the line and pick up in store. Another fail. You have to pick up at the frame center and there's a line there too and people are making all of these custom wire hanging frames. Everyone that works here is nice also but they're just always incredibly understaffed. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE doing crafts! I wish I could only work part time so that I had more time do try and do all the different crafts I want to do. Michael's is the place to go for all your needed materials. I have loved going to Michael's stores since I was a young girl, my mom always and still is always sewing, knitting and doing crafts. i wish I could be more like her, she used to let us get American Girl doll clothes if we had been behaving, and she always let's me get scrap booking stuff when I go with her these days, which only happens once in awhile. This Michael's has always had the glitter I needed, specific glue, photo albums, paper, stick letters etc. The staff is very friendly, and I got 50% off an item just asking for help. I bought a frame and when I got home and unwrapped it, what I thought was a wrinkle in the plastic shrinkwrap was actually a big scratch. So when I went to exchange it, I was told their policy was that they couldn't take back opened frames, even though I just wanted to exchange it for the same frame. I didn't see the policy on the receipt, I wasn't told their policy as I was checking out, and I didn't see a sign stating their policy. I asked another employee and they said the same thing. At that point, the frame just broke in my hands! So I just tossed it in bin of clearance items in frustration. read more

I was walking around in black pants, a black t-shirt and listening to music on my headphones when FOUR different people stopped to ask me where things were! Someone actually chased me down and was rude when it took me a couple minutes to respond, because I didn't realize she was talking to me, as I am not a store employee! ;) Pretty sure this is a good indication of poor customer service, and too few employees on the schedule! I think you guys may need to look into hiring more people, or adjusting your budget hours. Let me preface this by saying I am not a crafty person. I grew up with an artist mom who could make/draw anything. Sadly, I didn't get those genes. I am putting together gift baskets for my team, as we are unable to celebrate together in person this year. I tried to order baskets online from Michaels but had trouble with the online system. I decided to head down to Michaels in-person to complete this project. It was a bit of a madhouse as you can imagine this close to Christmas. Thankfully, an excellent employee, Shai, helped me to gather all the baskets I needed, I still don't know how she rounded up the 15 I needed! She was then super helpful with advice about glue guns and other craft supplies. She then helped me get my two baskets up for checkout. Thanks for all the help, Shai! read more

Up until now, I only thought to only take the time to give a positive write-up. Well, up until now, I did not encounter a store manager that could careless about helping a customer. This morning I called the store up because I needed some photo corner for our business. I am calling ahead to make sure that they have the item before taking the 20 minute drive to the store. I provided the item number and was told by the associate on the other end that they would hold some the product for me. When I get to the store, they did not hold that product for me, but instead saved a more expensive version of the item. I wanted the 500 for one price, but instead was given 210 for the same price. I asked the floor manager about ordering the correct item and was told that I needed to order $500 worth of the item for them to bother with the order. I needed the item, so purchase the more expensive item. Subsequently, on the way out of the store it dawns on me, that eventually, they would have to purchase the item for their store, so why was it incumbent upon me to order the item for them. I don't think it was worth the nickel and diming of customers because the margin on this item really isn't worth this rating. Well, there you have it. Good riddance to Michaels. read more

Placed order online including this GLASS picture frame...paid extra for large item shipping. Arrived packaged wrapped in a flimsy sheet of bubble wrap with a heavy ceramic item which obviously floated around in the box, smashing the glass of the frame to smithereens...horribly insufficient packaging for a glass item! Box not even marked "fragile"! Called customer service twice and only option was to get a call back in the order of call received..that was an hour ago..must be a lot of folks on line ahead of me! Poor packaging, so far NO customer service...can't recommend online shopping from Michael's at this time.. read more

I love this store and I am always suckered into buying things, but here are my two problems with this place: 1) It seem's there are never any employees on the floor to help, you need to walk around several times until you can find somebody, and when you do they are already helping someone else. 2) Lines! I'd give 0 or 1/2 star if either were an option. Ordered one Lego set online for in-store pick up because it was several dollars cheaper than Amazon. The Michael's website indicates any in-store pick up order placed before 3 pm will be available for same day pick up. My order was placed at 4:15, so I assumed it would be ready the next day. I received notification that my order was received, but no email or text indicating it was ready for pick up. Two days later, I try and check status. It's listed as "Pending." I try to find out status via both chat and phone customer service (if you'll pardon the expression). No one seemed to know what was up with my order. One CSR told me that it actually was marked "Ready For Pickup" on her system. A different one told me it was canceled. (Glad I didn't take first person's word that it was ready) Another one kept telling me about "Same Day Delivery" and "Free Shipping" policies even though the very first thing I said was that this was an "In Store Pick Up" order. Even after I repeated that this was an "In Store Pick Up" order, they continued to tell me about "Same Day Delivery" and "Free Shipping" policies. Turns out, the store canceled the order, but didn't notify me that they did so. And for some reason, the "Track My Order" system didn't know it was canceled. Spoke with a CSR manager who did some checking and got to the bottom of it. She kindly extended a e-gift card which I used to order the set from a different Michael's location. So, I now have my set and everything seems good. At this point, I'd give them 4 stars. Then I start getting texts from Michael's about the original order which was canceled by the store. The texts say that my order has been received and that they'll let me know when it has been shipped or is ready for pick up. The text included an opt out option (Reply STOPALL to unsubscribe), so I replied "STOPALL" and received a text saying I was successfully removed. Texts did not stop. When I once again reached out via chat, I was told that I didn't do it right. That I needed to reply "STOP" instead. I explained that that is not what the text stated. They said they didn't know why that was happening and that I should reply "STOP" So I did. And I got a text confirming that I wouldn't receive any more texts. Until I started getting texts about the cancelled order again. Again I tried "STOPALL" and "STOP" and got confirmation texts. And when I get more texts, I reached out again. The CSR I spoke with said all they could do is cancel my account. So the did. And then I got more texts. Reached out again. Supposedly, it's been escalated to Marketing and IT. We'll see if it stops. Should've spent the few extra dollars at Amazon. read more

I used to LOVE Michael's but I noticed they are offerering less of what crafters need for certain things....Another thing, referring to another lady saying the elderly lady in the frame dept. told the mother to not have her kid bounce the ball in the store. I AGREE with the worker. Parents, you do not have control over your kids if they keep on bouncing a ball. You only need to bounce it a few times and if it bounces buy it. It is rude for kids to come into a store and ride bikes, bounce balls for more than a few minutes, etc.....parents are too lax today..As far as Michael's goes, I am upset they don't teach cake decorating classes either. I do still like the store but I find I have to also go to Party City to find things that Michael's used to have... read more

The layout and look of this new Michael's (it opened last Sunday in the old Drug Barn space) is different from older locations. The new look is brighter and more playful, just like their new logo. Michael's has a wide selection of crafts including: * Scrapbooking supplies * Paint * Large jewelry making area * Rubber stamps and ink pads * Cardstock, paper by the sheet * Craft books and magazines * Wedding and holiday items * Cake and baking supplies (quite a few things for cupcakes) * Photo albums * Yarn (mostly acrylic) including yarn from Vanna White, needles * Baskets, floral supplies * Candles Most importantly, they carry Martha Stewart Crafts! Her line was 30% off. However, this location doesn't have as much of Martha's items as some of the other Michael's locations. The Martha merchandise includes photo albums, ribbons, markers, paints, and wedding items. Another fun area is the $5 and under section. Great idea, Michael's! read more

Jason (the very important manger designee) and Jessica (the cashier of the moment) advised that it was Michael's new policy not to let a customer use a Michael's coupon and a competitor's coupon (Joann's) on the same day. This is a change from the former practice where a customer could use both a Michael's coupon and a competitor's coupon to purchase items. Even though I had waited 15 minutes in the long line, I decided against purchasing my twelve skeins of yarn from Michael's and drove over to Joann's to spend $80 on yarn. Let it be known that it was well worth the drive (of about 1/4 mile) because 1) the same exact yarn is priced less at Joann's, 2) the very friendly cashier (Rona) applied both the Joann's coupon and Michael's coupon to the purchase and 3) a lovely Paton's canvas tote bag was included with the purchase for no additional cost (as in free gift with purchase). All future Michael's coupons will be redeemed at Joann's or Beverly's in Westlake! In my head I'm thinking, "Is that ok? Is that OK?? Well let's see, I can either keep this crap I don't want or need, or I can take a store credit minus 10%. Not much of a choice, is it?" Final thoughts: I've never heard of such a return policy! Most stores will credit back the card you used to make the purchase. I'm ok with the store credit, but WTF is this MINUS 10%?? Michaels took over the building Drug Barn used to occupy. I only have one question. Michael, where am I going to get my drugs from now? I was on a hunt for a very particular item that Beverly's at Westlake didn't have. I'm totally out of my element in these crafty stores, but I found a sales associate and they took me over to what I needed, and I grabbed a few other things along the way. Beware, along the checkout line there's a $1 bin section with everything from thank you cards, to wine and cupcake stationary sets, pens, magnets and other cheap trinkets. It's always a hard decision for me to decide which Target to go to. They're literally across the street from each other (separated by a freeway)...one is attached to a mall, the other closer to Best Buy, Old Navy and Nordstrom Rack, so it just depends what mood I'm in. The last time I went I decided to go to the less crazy of the two (the one not attached to Serramonte), and I saw the Michaels sign on the pileon....uh how did I miss them putting this in, and how long have I been driving down to San Mateo to get my crafting supplies when I didn't need to?? This Michaels is new, of course, laid out very nicely, has the largest jewelry/beading section I've ever seen in a Michaels, and nice, friendly employees (such a treat after returning something at Ross right beforehand). When I have time to be crafty, Michael's is my one-stop shop. I used to make cake pops and I tell you, they have everything you would need to make that happen. They also have a load of ribbon selections to choose from - this comes in handy when I'm making one of my diaper cakes! Next is their scrapbook selection. They have not only the stickers and sets for making scrapbooks, their background paper selection is enormous! Whatever you're making a scrapbook or craft for, Michael's has all the needs for it. Stickers, cut outs, paper, etc. The prices are reasonable and there are ALWAYS coupons available on their website, or even in their newspaper. If you go on your phone and google Michael's and choose your specific Michaels' location, you'll find that there will be a 40% off any regularly priced item - which is a STEAL. This Michael's is far superior in all ways to the Michael's in San Mateo, hands down. The inventory is better, the store is more ordered physically and managerially, and the staff is so much more helpful. The facility is bright, new, and attractive. It's also open late. Even if I lived in San Mateo, I would drive all the way up to Colma to go to this Michael's location. Need crafts? Come here--highly recommended. read more

I bought- A Smash Book (usually $14 anywhere else. Here it's $10. On the shelf it said $12, but when they range it up, $10.), pieces of scrap booking paper with unique designs (I found some for 25 cents), Smash pads, a few other small things for my Smash Book, craft scissors, and two huge pages of craft stickers (49 cents). Their selection is enormous and I can not get over how helpful their staff is. Their coupons and sales are pretty amazing too! Yesterday, I needed a couple of larger frames. The posters I needed to frame have uncommon measurements and my budget did not allow for any sort of custom/fancy framing. Joseph greeted me in the frame department, then he awed me with his frame expertise. He is so knowledgeable that even the Asst. Manager kept interrupting us, asking Joseph questions galore (without one "Excuse me") to help her help her customers. I was a little annoyed but Joseph's awesomeness trumped that bit. Love this Michaels. Never had a bad experience with customer service here and this place is huge! Love the selections and it's usually very tidy. Since Michaels always offers coupons I always make sure to ring up a couple of items first (to test if the coupons work with those items) before I go pick up more items to purchase. Yikes! I don't know what happened but it's a nightmare now. Unless you want to wait in a line that STRETCHES ALL THE WAY TO THE BACK OF THE STORE, I'd recommend you stay away until at least the holidays are over. Since last month, no matter what day or what time of day I come in, the line is INSANE. It's like perma-Black Friday in here. This used to be one of my favorite shops for craft and art supplies, being well-stocked and close to home. I'm so happy about the opening of this Michaels store in Colma. It doesn't have the fabric selection like Beverlys and Joanns but it's stocked full of goodies if you're crafting for : 1. JEWELRY - entire section devoted to beads and you can even purchase by the bead instead of an entire strand (And it looks like they maybe offering courses here) 2. SCRAPBOOKING - huge section in the center of the store with tables to layout all your goodies and supplies, loads of paper, storage, stickers, rows of ribbons, embellishments and it looks like they're still stocking up on more supplies 3. FRAMES - large selection 3-4 rows of various frames including shadow boxes and custom framing 4. HOME DECOR- flowers, glasses, vases, baskets, decorations 5. ART SUPPLIES - rows of canvas, pens, paint, brushes, 6. CAKE/ BAKING AREA- they have a few rows of the cake pans, decorating supplies and items by the front behind the bridal area. I'm very pleased that they offer the WILTON cake decorating courses here 7. WEDDING - wedding invitation and flavor kits 8. KIDS CRAFTING - this is neat they have a few sections for creative kids and they're offering birthday parties at this location.
