We came here since we liked their sauce and thought why not try it. The place is very nice and elegant but the food was not great. Our waiter was as very dismissive and kind of rushing us to put our orders in when we waited at the table for someone to come by for at least 30 min. It was not busy at all. Food: - Calamari 2/5 and was not blown away. Flavor was bland, some if not most pieces were just breading. Rice balls - 2/5 nothing special. Bland. Grilled Salmon with a Mustard Dill Sauce - 4/5 sauce was great but salmon itself was plain. Linguine with white clam sauce - 2/5 not good flavor at all. Very gritty. Would not get again. Chicken parm - 3/5 flavor was bland. Not anything special. Sirloin steak - 3/5 have had better steak elsewhere. Overall food was mediocre. Most likely would not come back. read more

I came to Michael's with a friend from out of town. My friend wanted macaroni and I said I knew just the place! We were seated immediately. The restaurant wasn't packed yet so we were lucky that it was some what quiet. The menu is extensive and every dishes looks interesting and delicious. We settled on butternut squash bisque, it was smooth and delicious. It was flavorful. Also it was a large portion. For dinner we order ravioli with Michael's sauce which was a traditional and flavorful. We had short ribs with crispy gnocchi and veggies. The short rib was super tender and falling off the bone. the sauce was thick and rich. Lastly clams and linguine. It was garlicky and had big pieces of clams. Very delicious. Great old school red sauce restaurant with excellent food and service never a bad meal

I'm not usually in this part of town but I've been hearing from friends about this spot I had to try it. The complimentary bread basket is generous with mess and cheese accompaniments. I enjoyed the veal parmigiana and my friends got the penne alla vodka. We also shared the mozzarella, tomatoes and roasted peppers to start. Food is delicious and portions are filling. Needed a walk after the meal. Made it across the street and picked up cannolis at their pastry shop. Loved everything! read more

I would rate Michael's four and a half stars. I came here with family for our annual post Five Boro Bike Tour dinner. We made a reservation earlier in the week. Once we arrived, we were seated immediately; no games about the whole part being there. Prompt seating with hospitality. We had a bottle of Barolo which they kindly decanted for us. Wine list has a nice selection but is not overwhelming. We shared a bunch of appetizers including Michael's special hot antipasto seafood platter, baked clams, calamari & octopus salad, and hot mussels in red sauce. All the apps were good. They also had complimentary bread with olives, cheese, and soppressata. The complimentary items went over very well too. For the main course, I shared the veal chop parmigiana and the rigatoni allá vodka with my wife. Both were delicious and of highly recommend both. For dessert, I had a slice of tiramisu with a decaf cappuccino. Dessert portion is pretty large and is best shared between two. Service was stellar. Very attentive. Super patient. Your classic old school family Italian restaurant. They basically stick to the classics and they do it very well. Starter bread was great and a nice appetite opener. Ordered the short ribs with gnocchi which was fall-off-the-bone, don't even need a knife tender. We also ordered the steak tips which came in this really yummy sauce. Good Lord I'm trying to think what pastry haven't I tried. They have mini & large pastries. When they ask me what do I want I say YES. I haven't yet been here to dine in person (I could have sworn there was a time when they didn't take reservations, but that appears not to be the case now). In any case, my family has been ordering takeout here on and off since the 1960s. I recently gave it a try via Uber Eats, and, when the food arrived, at first I thought I had been given someone else's (a family's) order. But, it turns out that everything I received (see photo) comes standard when one orders the chicken parmigiana entree with a side of pasta: half of a loaf of fresh Italian bread, olives, two types of fresh parmesan, tomato (pizza-like) focaccia, a side of vegetables (on that day asparagus and potato croquette), and then the main event--what I thought was going to be all that was included--a massive portion of chicken cutlet smothered in fresh mozzarella and addictive sauce (must try some of the other varieties available bottled) and an ample side of fresh fettuccine with matching sauce. It yielded three + meals. All of this for $3 less than the same entree at Graziella's (a very different type of restaurant, I know, but my previous favorite chicken parm). I will have to get a group together next time to try more dishes and finally dine in person. read more

Every detail was exquisite. I wish I could live here. Flawless perfection is what I got at Michael's after work. Never had butternut squash ravioli in my life and sure enough, it was to die for. I am a born and bred New Yorker, and unfortunately never heard of this place until tonight. You have seen their sauces probably, but never thought the physical place existed. They are glass jars, simple in design and very easy to blend in with the shelves. However, now that I have eaten here, I will try to purchase their sauces for my own homemade Italian night. It was a large group of us and the waiter kept a pleasant, but distant conversation. We ordered the baked clams, frutta di mare, and tomato mozzarella for appetizers. Then we ordered veal parmigiana and baked rigatoni al a vodka. The baked rigatoni was to die for. I highly recommend it! They also accommodate for special requests. So if you have any allergies, you can get specialized orders. For dessert, we ordered the warm chocolate chip cookie and 1/4 pound of cookies. The cookies were pignoli and rainbow cookies, which were outrageous in taste. I seriously can't recommend this place enough for the wonderful food and atmosphere. 10/10!!!! read more

I came here last Sunday for lunch and I'm SO glad I did! I'm from Brooklyn but strangely last Sunday was my first visit to Michaels. I know for sure it won't be my last! If you don't drive, getting her can be quite a pain in the butt. It's in Marine Park so there aren't any subways near by. The B44 and another bus do stop in front of the restaurant, though. EVERYTHING about this place just oozes old school charm. From the facade to the inside to the employees and patrons. I absolutely loved it. It really made me feel like I was transported back to my Calabrian grandmothers dining room for Sunday dinner. At 2 on a Sunday, it wasn't too crowded. We had reservations but were early. They still seated us. Even though our whole party wasn't there yet. Such a homey, classic dining space. With the doo-wop playing and waiters in suits. So classy. Service was outstanding and attentive. Gerrardo was our waiter. He was a bit hard to understand but was so nice and patient while we browsed the ENORMOUS menu! They have a great selection of items that are reasonably priced and others that are up there in price. The spread that they bring out to every table is my favorite! A basket of assorted breads with pizza focaccia, semolina bread, crackers, etc. Along with butter, pieces of Parmigiano-Reggiano (that was fresh and delicious!), salami and assorted olives. So satisfying. For the appetizer we ordered the meatballs with ricotta. Came with 6 meatballs that were the perfect size in the most perfect marinara sauce. Again, the way the meatballs were made reminded me so much of how my grandmother made them. The ricotta was fresh. You can tell they make it themselves. It wasn't watery. It was creamy and fluffy, if you can even use that as an adjective to describe ricotta! We downed them fast! Also had fun dipping the bread in the sauce. Had a glass of Cabernet for $17. It was very good. We were always asked if we needed anything. Table was always cleaned and old dishes/utensils cleared away. It was really hard to choose what I wanted for the main. I wound up having Rigatoni a la Michael's. It was in a light tomato sauce with clams and shrimp. Lots of clams and shrimp. Big, delicious clams. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. I was so full that I unfortunately had no room for dessert. Just coffee. Which was also yummy. The bill for 3 people with appetizers, drinks and entrees was only $139. To me that's quite reasonable. We're already planning our next visit. The only reason this establishment doesn't get 5 stars from me is because of their department of health rating of a B. Normally I would see that rating and go somewhere else, but after reading on the DOH website what their violations were, I cut them a bit of slack. That won't stop me from coming back! Massively overpriced for mediocre food. Baked vodka sounds great and eggplant parm should be good but were just ok. Garlic bread tasted off.

Came on a friday early evening with my husband and two young kids. The waiter and staff were so attentive and sweet the whole meal. It is beautiful inside and my son said wow we haven't been to a fancy restaurant in a while. Lol we have but it's just not as beautiful as Michael's. The place was empty when we arrived but by 6:30, it was all filled. They also had a piano player by then. Now the food, so good! The antipasto was yummy and the bread/butter was a hit with the kids. We got calamari, rigatoni burnt with vodka sauce which was delicious, the veal parmesan and the fishermans platter (a good deal!). We were so full that we had no room for dessert. I know it's good because their biscotti to end the meal was great. Next time! Parking can be difficult so get there early. read more

Bread was awesome, so we probably should have went to the bakery instead. The string beans were a standout, but across the board all our entrees were underwhelming. Lamb shank, Sunday sauce, chicken parmigiana, stuffed sole, none of them were particularly well done, though the short ribs were exceptional. Dessert was very good, though a bit over the top sweet. Reminds me of Pine Tavern, which isn't bad, but isn't great. Disappointing overall as we had such high expectations. Such is life, to each his own. read more

Finally made it to Michael's after all these years! My cousins took me out for my birthday. I was fascinated when I walked in. Takes you back to the class and dignity of yesteryear. It's not old and decrepit , it's absolutely perfect. I was also impressed with the valet. They were quick which I like. Our waiter Enzo was such a nice guy and excelled at his position. He really made the meal enjoyable as well. The menu is probably one of, if not the best I have ever seen. A whole laundry list of specials that's available every single night. Starters we had mini rice balls which I enjoyed. Eggplant rollatini which was perfect. Not breaded and perfectly layered. And we shared two pastas which were both the stars the of the night. The bucatini cacio pepe. This was absolutely perfect. Wasn't too cheesy or too peppery which some establishment easily make that mistake. When I saw it I thought it might be too silky and cheesy but it was absolutely perfect. I loved it. And the spicy vodka burnt rigatoni. Again perfection on a dish. The amount of heat was perfect and on the way home I told my wife I don't know how they do it, I didn't taste any hot pepper or anything to make it hot in the vodka sauce. For mains I had the veal chop parm (smash job) which was phenomenal. Cooked beautifully and the fresh mozz really makes this dish come together. I got fettuccine on the side and their sauce with the side pasta way too chunky for me but it was delicious once I got passed all of it. My wife had the veal sorrentino and she loved it as well. Dessert the tiramisu was wonderful as well and my wife and cousins shared the coconut custard cake which was great too. My cousin John had the sorbet sampler which was very nicely presented. I used to say the best part about going to Brooklyn is leaving Brooklyn (which I said on the way there) but I can't say it no more. Came last night for a family dinner to celebrate my birthday. It was my first time there but is my dads favorite restaurant! The inside is so gorgeous like an old school Italian restaurant from the movies. Beautiful bar and music playing and a large dining room with many tables. We started out with a few apps and pasta. The burnt vodka sauce pasta was absolutely delicious and I'd order that for myself next time soooo good. We also got the polenta with wild mushrooms, stuffed artichoke, and the arugula salad. Then we had some pasta fagiole before our main courses arrived. We ordered a whole branzino (wanted to order 2 but that was their last one), sea bass filet, and the braised short ribs with fried gnocchi. The seabass was my favorite so thick and juicy with a delicious citrusy sauce. My dad said the branzino was the best he's ever had. The short rib gnocchi wasn't what I'd have imagined but was still really delicious. I thought the gnocchi would be pan fried instead it was actually fried, not my taste but the meat was superb. Lastly we finished off with some coffee and and for dessert we ordered the tartino and hot chocolate chip cookie. Thankfully they forgot to serve us the tartino because we were so full and the cookie was soooo good and barely baked. I would come again just for that. read more

I have wanted to go to this restaurant for a very long time and this weekend I finally had the chance to check it out. I can say I was not disappointed. This place is welcoming, fancy, high class and also has amazing customer service and the food was delicious. They live up to their 60 year family-run-business reputation. The waiters were super attentive without being overbearing. The small things that was done was not overlooked. I very much appreciated their services and felt very much welcomed and accepted there. All the waiters were dress the part of a high end establishment and although we weren't dress the part, on purpose - because I wanted to wear my birthday theme of cow theme - we were not seen as out of place there. Which was a great feeling. As for my husband, he wasn't even hungry when we got there but once he saw the menu, he wanted to order everything so I let him choose all the foods towards his heart's content. I ordered the bone marrow, and hubby ordered the crab salad, raw oysters, and mozzarella, tomato, prosciutto platter. Everything was so delicious. I would give the food we had 5 stars! The customer service was also 5 stars! And what our waiter replied is also 5 stars - when we asked him if there was a surcharge for using a credit card verse cash - he said it should be a crime to charge surcharge and that he didn't agree with what other establishments were doing. Hearing that meant a lot to me about this establishment business ethics which makes this place all the more appealing. My daughter was gifted a mini teddy bear. The man, whom looks like the chef, dressed in chef shirt came and said to me, can I gift this bear to your child - I was so surprised. Of course I accepted. My daughter was so exited and happy for getting it. It's these little gestures that make a place great. If I was to guess, I would assume he was one of the owners or part of management. Very nice of him. Secondly even thou this place was a fancy establishment and my daughter was being rowdy and misbehaving at times, the staff never once made us feel like we didn't belong there. And our waiter was even so attentive as to bring my daughter extra utensils after she was playing and dropped her fork. I can't say enough good things about this place. The only reason they received 4 stars instead of 5 is because the prices of the food is pricy and over priced but it is to be expected thou. I would come back here again without question even with the over pricing as they have met all my other requirements. If you want to try an Italian place, this is the place to go!
