We had the best night at Michael's! I knew Michaels was an iconic restaurant deep in Brooklyn. I've seen their sauce sold in stores before, and we finally made the trip out for dinner. We went around Christmas and it was decorated inside. The restaurant was packed. Every single table was full. Everyone was having the best time. Even the bar was totally full of people ordering drinks before they were seated. The food is classic, New York Italian. Everything is a very well done version. The veal Parm was one of the best I've ever had. The caramel cake at the end was truly beyond. I can't recommend this experience enough. We ate for three hours had amazing cocktails, great bottles of wine and a really delicious meal. Looking around, you could tell the diners were locals enjoying a beloved neighborhood restaurant. It's such a special restaurant that serves real New Yorkers.
You can tell this is a staple Italian restaurant in Marine Park, Brooklyn. Lots of regulars and families. I always pass by and finally decided to try it out. The interior looks like a classic Italian restaurant and service is very formal. It was quite busy for a weekday night. There's valet parking so you don't have to stress about finding street parking nearby. We ordered fried calamari, baked clams, baked vodka penne, and the Fisherman's Platter. We were served bread and some antipasto to start. The calamari was a classic and I loved the sauce -- it had a good spicy kick to it. The baked clams were okay. The Fisherman's Platter is a must and good value with its generous portion of seafood. It can definitely be shared amongst two people. The baked vodka penne was also good but portion was on the smaller side. I would say Michael's is a must try at least once.
Michael's is one of those Brooklyn spots you really need to experience at least once, and it truly lives up to its reputation. It has a slightly more upscale atmosphere and definitely leans toward business casual. I do not think they strictly enforce it, but most guests are dressed nicely, so definitely make the effort and skip the tee shirt and sweats. The service here is excellent. They are attentive without being overbearing, constantly refilling water and clearing plates. The only slightly awkward thing was how many busboys were standing around in such a small dining room. For food, we started with the mini rice balls, then ordered chicken parm, the fisherman's dish, and baked rigatoni with vodka sauce. The rice balls were perfectly fried and tasted amazing with their red sauce. The baked rigatoni stole the show. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the vodka sauce was rich and flavorful, and the charred cheese on top just pushed it to another level. I honestly wish we ordered a second one. Even though we were stuffed, we had to try dessert. We went with the chocolate caramel cake with sea salt with caramel ice cream. It is huge and easily sharable, incredibly rich, and impossible to stop eating. Overall, Michael's absolutely deserves the hype. The food is excellent, the service is great, and it really feels like one of Brooklyn's standout Italian restaurants. I cannot wait to go back.
It's really a joy to dine in this restaurant; the place is packed with noisy, happy people. The servers-dozens of them-scurry around making sure everyone STAYS happy. My glass of water never falls below the 50% full marker. And the food is delicious. The cocktails are perfectly crafted. Plus they give you so much food before you even order your meal, that it is quite impossible to leave hungry. What made tonight's visit really great was our server, George. Friendly, professional, funny and engaging. As I said, it is really a joy to dine here.
I can't remember if it's the 2nd or 3rd time this year I've been here but I'm telling you old school straight forward Italian food. This is your place I've had a few different pastas here & on point even dessert omg. Excellent I mean you can't go wrong here Brooklyn best kept secret for years
One of my favorite Brooklyn restaurants everyone is very nice and the food is delicious. They have very good desserts. Their chicken Parm is one of the best chicken Parm I have ever had.
Excellent service and ambiance. The food was amazing in taste and quality and quantity. This is a gem! It's like having your Italian Grandmother's home cooking. Purchase the Michael's Marinara! Great place!
Had food delivered and Michael's always come through. The delivery was fast and food still came out hot after 30 minutes of wait. It was worth it. The veal parking was crispy on the outside and moist inside and the cheese oozed out decandently. Had the mesclun beets and onion salad for something refreshing but it was a bit bland. It needed some crunch like pine nuts and a sweeter dressing. The Parpadelle was made al dente and the sauce was terrific. I would order this again. I've ordered from them before and their food have always been very good and tasty. The only downside is the price can be on the expensive side. So far we haven't been disappointed. Maybe next time, don't have the salad.
Came here on a Tuesday a few weeks ago after the blizzard. Thank god I had a reservation because it was packed. The ambiance was amazing including the pianist playing some beautiful background music. Service was fast and attentive. Plenty of staff available for you. Everyone is friendly and inviting. My top dishes were the veal parm and the fried calamari. Honorable mentions were the stuffed mushrooms and eggplant meatballs. Will definitely be back.
Was traveling through Brooklyn on the way back from a beach day heading back to NJ. Having grown up in Brooklyn I remember the original Michael's and this meal was just as great as I remember. Huge restaurant with valet parking, solid bar and live piano music during the meal. Wait staff was prompt and professional. The food was amazing, solid Brooklyn Italian fare that was delicious. Waiter brought out different fresh bread and focaccia with olives, cheese and meat while we perused the menu. We ordered Negroni's which were expertly prepared and presented. We started with rice balls which brought me back to my childhood. The waiter recommended their baked and burnt baked ziti and it was the star of the meal. The veal parmigiana was amazing. We got a box of cookies to go for the road and left full and happy. A must if you are in this part of Brooklyn.
We came here for an anniversary dinner and made reservations a week beforehand, but the restaurant wasn't too busy on a Saturday night. Upon entering, the ambiance brings a classy, old school vibe of an upscale, Italian restaurant. Once we were seated, the service was quick to bring us menu, water, and bread to start. First of all, their complimentary bread comes in 3 types of bread and 2 crackers along with olives, salami, cheese, and butter! I don't know about you, but I've never had such a magnificent display of starter, which is free too. Of course, try not to overindulge on this as the food here is just as excellent and comes in huge portions. We started off with the Slab of Bacon ($16), which was fatty and crispy. For the main entree, I had the Lamb Shank ($39) while he had the Braised Rabbit ($39) and we shared the Baked Truffle Vodka Rigatoni ($23). The lamb was amazingly tender and flavorful perfectly paired with the creamy and chunky mashed potatoes. For the rigatoni, I probably would pass on the truffle as the flavor was too strong for us and the baked crispiness made it a bit too dry, so stick to a classic vodka pasta next time. Pasta was a bit basic overall even though they make their pasta sauces here and even have them jarred for sale. Definitely need to try the infamous Veal Chop Parmigiana a.k.a "The Smash Job" next time though, which even comes bone-in. Throughout our meal, we paired the food with a couple cocktails as well. I had the Elderflower Old Fashioned ($18) and Lychee Spritz ($16). The elderflower was a nice touch to the old fashioned that I've never seen before. The lychee cocktail was refreshing and quite alcohol-forward. The boyfriend also had the Avenue R ($18) and Biscotti Martini ($18). The first essentially being a strong whiskey drink, but the biscotti martini was delicious coming from someone who doesn't even like espresso. Definitely a must if you like an espresso martini with a touch of sweetness. By the end of the meal, I wish I had room for dessert. Overall, Michael's was a delicious meal perfect for any big or small occasion. I look forward to returning and trying more items on the menu as I don't think you can go wrong with anything they serve here.
Michael's of Brooklyn never disappoints!!! It's one of my favorite Italian-American spots in the city, consistently offering incredible food and service. We started with the classics - fried calamari, baked clams, grilled octopus - and I went with the pork chop with hot peppers from the specials menu for my entre. Everything was spot-on....the food, the service, the energy, and the atmosphere. It's one of my favorite restaurants for a reason, and I'm always excited when I have a reservation. Perfect spot for a group dinner.

Tried the spaghetti carbonara and it was super creamy and delicious. The bacon added a nice salty bite and the pasta had just the right texture. I liked that it wasn't drowning in sauce--it was balanced and flavorful. Our server was polite and gave great suggestions. The restaurant had a cozy, inviting feel. Everything came out hot and fresh. I left feeling full and happy. read more

My recent experience at Michael's was no different from the rest... terrific. The wait staff is attentive and even though there is a time limit you don't feel rushed. The restaurant has an old school Italian charm, and the food is always fresh and delicious... the portions are generous. Those are the reasons that we keep returning. read more

Dinner last night was outstanding. Just walking into Michael's, you feel at home with that old school Brooklyn vibe. The food was cooked to perfection. The grilled octopus and stuffed shells were a good choice for appetizers. The shrimp parm was delicious. That sauce though, un paralleled. The perfect end to dinner was the cappuccino and biscotti. Robert our server, was great. We walked in hoping to sit at the bar, yet were treated incredibly. This is why people keep going back and it's always packed in there. read more
Not to be dramatic, but this was a life-changing meal for me. As an out of towner who was brought here by a local, I can only imagine how special it would be to grow up going to a place like this. I feel truly lucky my friends wanted to share this special spot with us. So worth the trip! From the abundant bread service to the rainbow cookies to finish, every single bite I had was better than the next. Too many good options on the menu... it would actually take a lifetime to try every one :) The energy is lively yet sophisticated, with lots of married couples and groups alike. Service was unsurprisingly superb in every way. Michael really has it figured out. read more
Mid century Michaels is popular & pricey. It's a first as a native Brooklynite who lives in Manhattan. The branding here is bananas and walking in you're hit with jars of sauce & products which is very off putting. Ate: Stuffed artichoke Portobello & fava bean dip Salmon & mustard sauce Escarole Braciole & gnocchi Chiant Total: $142 before tip The bread basket plus parmigiano and soppressata is excellent! They also give you good Michael's super Tuscan olive oil on request I liked the portobellos a lot and it's not a typical classic Italian dish. I thought the stuffed artichoke though well cooked & nicely finish with olives was bland. Parkside is still the gold standard My salmon wasn't grilled as requested but broiled, but was tasty. Escarole excellent. Chianti wine at $17 for the glasss- mediocre. Service was ok given the high number of servers all in black jackets. You feel like you're in someone else's party on a Sunday. Nice biscotti gratis to finish. read more

We had the burnt spicy vodka rigatoni to start, then fisherman platter and chicken parm with side of green beans and spinach. Finished off with espresso and a lobster tail, the French cream was light and amazing. Excellent service and food as always. Been here two years in a row for my birthday and it's well worth the 1hr trip. read more

A Brooklyn classic family owned since 1964, if you want a true Brooklyn experience come here. The food is phenomenal. Not one bad thing to say. Everything tastes delectable. Chef is consistent with every dish. I came here with my family on a big group table. The waiter was very attentive and helpful. The food comes out fast and the quality is high. Highly recommend getting polenta with mushrooms and truffle as well as shrimp francese. I also love how they bring the table vegetables and potato croquets once entrees are served. Free biscotti at the end. Piano man playing live music. Their 60th anniversary is next year and I can see why this place has stayed in business so long. read more
Another amazing dinner at Michael's! The food is always amazing, fresh, served hot and delicious. Our waiter was very attentive, the busboys move fast and always made sure we had water! The ambiance is elegant and clean but crowded. When we sat, the host asked us to be mindful of the walkway behind some of us. I totally understand leaving space for waiters, but you have to anticipate people sitting with their chairs further out. If you're worried about a pathway for wait staff and others coming in, don't squeeze as many tables in the room! I'd go back as the food and service was great! read more

We found our new favorite restaurant in Brooklyn! We were there celebrating a very special occasion--daughter graduated from medical school! I wanted a great restaurant to celebrate the occasion. I even asked the manager and our waiter if they could recommend something special for my family and I to help us celebrate, even before our meal began. Our dinner was great, very delicious. Everyone in our party was very pleased with their dinner. I had Chilean sea bass, cousin had the pork chops. We were a party of 6. The dessert Michael's prepared was outrageous! The restaurant was crowded on a rainy Wednesday evening--a great sign. Piano was playing, everyone seemed to be having a great time. We all had a beautiful evening! Waiters served us perfectly, room was great, prices were reasonable for the excellent evening we had! read more

We were seated earlier, despite our reservation being later which I was happy about. I really loved the ambience walking by the bar to our seats . Seemed to have been a full house tonight but that didn't delay our server, who was excellent by the way ! We started with appetizers , the eggplant rolotinas were very good and they're really on to something with that sauce ! Main course we had the grilled salmon and the lamb . Everything was delightfully tasty. We also indulged with a bottle of Pinot Grigio to make it complete. Overall , excellent evening and would highly recommend! read more

Lunch here today. 5 people. Very nice platter of cheese pepperoni and olives brought to table along with a variety of incredible bread, breadsticks and flats. We had 3 appetizers. Mini meatballs , eggplant rollitini, and bucatini. The bucatini was out of this world. Main dishes - shrimp parm, shrimp fra diavolo, chicken parm , veal sorentino and veal Marsala. All very good. Complimentary biscotti was brought over for desert. It was so good that I'd go back to their bakery across the street and buy them. Cappuccino was delicious as well as the profiteroles with Nutella and icecream. I'd come back here any time. Service was impeccable. The restaurant is old world Valet parking although you might be able to get a spot on the street. Very varied menu with daily specials. read more

I was expecting a lot more from Michael's. Nice ambiance but food was ok and extremely overpriced. Serving sizes were super small. Just salmon alone was $35 and the piece was so tiny that I couldn't enjoy it. Com'n Michael's, give us better serving sizes. I've tried another Italian restaurant in Bay Ridge and food was so much better and a lot more of it. Not the best experience unfortunately. read more
Restaurants like this just don't exist anymore. Fresh authentic Italian at it's finest. Get their veal Milanese Parmesan style. Looks like a tomahawk steak when it comes out. Tender veal hammered thin and fried in a Milanese breading is unbelievable! Parm style included their pomodora sauce and fresh mozzarella cheese melted on top that is made in-house. Pastas like their butternut squash ravioli is so tender and satisfying. The Carmel cake was amazing and their appetizers were phenomenal. Lastly, the experience of a true Italian fine dining by the wait staff was true to Brooklyn's vibe of years ago, still intact in this gem of a find! Go now and experience it yourself! read more

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! I've been here multiple times and each time it just gets better. They're consistent with their flavors and the chefs really know what they're doing. Lobster bisque is the best I've ever had. One bowl is enough for a meal. The broth is rich and creamy and has a good amount of lobster. Oysters were amazing and fresh! Tasted amazing and really liked the presentation. Braised short ribs with fried gnocchi are a classic. They are fork tender with an amazing sauce. Not pictured but you have to get the warm chocolate chip cookie. Best dessert on the menu. The service is amazing and they are so nice each time. Enzo has been our waiter a few times and he really is the best. They clear our tables from any crumbs which I have only seen in very few restaurants. The ambiance is lovely with a live piano. Gives very old school Italian vibes. Overall, would highly highly recommend. Even heard someone talk about this place at another Michelin restaurant. It is a must try!!!! read more

We made a reservation for my mom's 70th birthday on a Friday night at 5pm. I was able to make the reservation over the phone for two children and four adults. We arrived at 5pm and sat down at our table. The table was set with white linen table cloth, silverware wrapped in a cloth napkin, water glasses, and a small table lamp. Our waiter came over took our drink order. We order some appetizers consisting of zucchini flowers, lobster crepe, and spicy sautéed calamari. The lobster crepe had real lobster pieces inside served with this amazing sauce. The zucchini flowers were lightly fried. The calamari was fresh and a little spicy. I ordered the veal de Michael's which was two perfectly cooked veal with shrimp in a seafood sauce. It was served with mashed sweet potatoes, asparagus, and a potato croquette. We also had two orders of chicken fingers and French Fries for the children. A chicken francaise and a shrimp francaise. Finally a linguine in white clam sauce. The food was amazing. The service was amazing. We ordered coffee and dessert including a lobster tail, cafe Michael, and vanilla ice cream. Everything was perfect and they did not rush us out. I opted to park in their parking lot which was fine. We will definitely be back. read more

Out of the way for all my friends, but they came for a little reunion and it was next to perfect. Great party spot. Taste: I had the white clam sauce pasta. Wowie. So good. Also nice stuff martinis. Was very tipsy by the end. Experience: so so so much fun. One of our friends' birthdays and lots of great conversation. The circle table was perfect for a big group of small groups. The staff was awesome and we even got some little history tidbits. Mood Before/After: excited to see my friends before and so heart warmed after to have a great dinner. Fullness: There was maybe too much food left over after I felt bad. Oh well! What else did I eat/do today affecting my experience: I went to the Brooklyn botanic garden before this and got soaked in a thunderstorm. But this was a nice end after getting wet read more

It was a great experience at Michaels. My significant other had tried Michaels for delivery mid Covid and told me I had to go check this gem out. Made a last minute reservation on OpenTable and was seated at their wonderful outdoor dining area. Their area is set up nicely at their parking lot. It was a lively night, felt like we arrived at a good time. The service from the entire team was impeccable. A gentleman seated us upon arrival. We felt welcomed right away. Our server was amazing. He was attentive, genuine, and knowledgeable. I truly enjoy service that adds a little personality and connection. I apologize if I forgot his name but I think it was Gerardo. A little bread variety basket was given upon arrival with some delicious olives, roasted red peppers and whipped butter. We started dinner with a 2015 bottle of Valpolicella. For appetizers, I'd recommend the appetizers I tried. The mussels were light, fresh and flavorful. The Grilled Octopus is a must get, might leave you wanting more too! We honestly did not love the Veal Marsala, the flavors were not delicate and comforting enough. The dish was way too complex for what it was supposed to be for. The rack of lamb over fava bean purée was good, but nothing special or outstanding. The highlight entree was the truffle pasta dish that my significant other and I agreed on and the server recommended it himself. It was rich and creamy without overwhelming the palate. Airy and burst of flavorful in each bite. We did too much damage and didn't get a chance to try dessert but I'm aware of their pastry shop across the street, there will be a next time for sweets. read more
My first time here. It is a fave of my cousins. The menu is extensive with specials. It was hard to choose what to eat as we don't have anything like this in Hawaii. We sat at the bar. The bartender was fun to talk to and was able to offer suggestions for food. We received a bread and mini charcuterie sampler of salami, chunks of cheese and olive. The butter was the best I have ever tasted. They make it themselves. I started with the trio salad with artichoke, Avocado and fennel. The best was a whole bronzing grilled with lemon. It came with Brussel sprouts an a potato "torpedo". I had a gin and tonic. I suggested to the bartender they should offer Hawaiian spirits. My cousin had the lentil soup. She is vegan and she won't stop talking about it. read more

The food was very tasty and there was a big selection which I appreciated. The portion sizes were a little bit big, but I have a small stomach so that's expected. Everyone in my family really enjoyed the ambience of the place but for me personally it was just a little too loud all the time. I could barely hear myself think since the place was packed. But everyone enjoyed it and enjoyed the food and we had a great time so I recommend coming here at least once. read more
