I had a very disappointing experience with Carla, who I later found out is the manager at the Michaels store in the Caton Shopping Center on Boston Street in Baltimore. I received 2 text messages and an email stating that my order had already been picked up, even though I never picked it up and did not authorize anyone else to do so. Naturally, I called the store because I simply wanted to verify that my items were still there. Instead of showing concern or professionalism, Carla was rude and dismissive over the phone. When I came into the store to pick up my order, I asked to speak with the manager regarding the poor customer service I received, only to find out that Carla herself was the manager. Unfortunately, her attitude in person was no better. As a customer, I expected understanding and basic courtesy considering the confusion and concern surrounding my order. A manager should know how to handle situations calmly and professionally, not make customers feel uncomfortable for asking valid questions. read more

Daytime framing staff did not care for my items properly bending corners of important documents. And not offering to help me carry the large items I had framed when picking them up Don't typically get a it's not my job attitude when dealing with professional framing staff- but that's what I got here Additionally, the Internet doesn't work in the back of the store so you cannot access your coupons to pay in the framing department When trying to check out at the front of the store, the clerk that was helping me spoke to two other customers and another employee about three separate issues while I try to just buy a pack of gum and a soda . She told me to be more patient as she talked to others and worked with her coworkers on separate issues rather than just ringing out my quick sale. I don't imagine these customer service people make much money so I feel for them there, but I will no longer will do my professional framing there as I expect better service in that separtment especially when spending hundreds of dollars on each piece I guess if you're just buying craft surprise and use self check out you'll probably be ok here read more

I think people underestimate the diversity of items available at Michaels! I certainly did before today... I'd always gone here for framing work and art supplies. See my previous review for the fantastic job they do with diplomas and artwork framing. Today I was desperately trying to find some cookie cutters and squeeze bottles for a dish I needed to make for tonight. Unfortunately, it's New Year's Eve and every grocery store is mobbed, and target was an absolute insane asylum. I couldn't find what I needed at sprouts or Harris Teeter and I took one look at the insane lines at checkout in target and just walked right back out. Something made me walk into Michaels just on a whim. Imagine my delight when I found a whole section for baking and cooking! It just made me realize again how much Michaels has to offer. And of course, everyone was at target it was empty and I was in and out in five minutes. Don't sleep on Michaels! Come here For your household/kitchen/crafting/baking needs. read more

So, this rating is mainly for the custom framing as I'm not a true crafter. BUT, I do feel this store has everything I would need if I was. AND, I'm always surprised at the 'extra' items I see (and sometimes buy) that I was surprised to find in that store! Today I ran into a little rolling drawer. I believe it was to store craft items. NOW, for my piece of art! I brought back an impressionist piece from Tanzania that was calling my name. I had never had anything framed before so I asked for recommendations. BUT, I was in Michaels buying frames and discovered they were having their 'biggest sale of the year', which included custom framing. Bet! I came back a few days later and walked through the framing process with the manager. She took her time to explain everything to me, show me options, and gave some insight on how the framing works. I was excited. Fast forward a few weeks later and I get a call that my print is framed and ready for pick-up! While I was in the store I grabbed some hanging wire for my other frames and this piece. BUT, the framing came with a wireless hanger (apparently it's the new thing). Winning again! My art piece was nicely framed. I love it! It's a gold frame that not only goes with the piece, but with my living room decor as well. So, now I can confidently bring my other piece to get framed. They do great work! read more

Michaels may be a crafter's dream, but for me, I wouldn't be interested in 85% of the stuff in there. The things I am interested in are hugely overpriced in my opinion. I visited this particular Michael's over the past weekend, in search of a black frame with matting, hoping to avoid a trip to IKEA. Even the crappy cheap frames in Michael's were at least $30 (these frames being remotely the same size as the frame at IKEA). I disappointedly walked through all the frame aisles and decided I'd have to make the trip to IKEA after all. On my way out, I saw some Christmas stockings and thought to get some to give simple goodies to my friends and found all the stockings were at least $20! I guess if they were stockings I'd use yearly, I could justify the cost, but stockings I'm giving away? Yeah, gonna see what Dollar Store has. And I think therein lies the rub about Michael's...you can always find items sold there much cheaper elsewhere. read more

I had visited the location in Towson but decided to stop by this location so I could get some shopping done at the other stores in Canton Crossing. If I don't review the craft store then I wouldn't be a true crafter. This is my go to Michaels it's near my grocery store, my wine shop, a target and a chick fil a so I basically need to go no where else! And when they open the rumored Nordstrom rack it will be more true. Anyway back to the store.. it's well organized and they usually have everything I need and a few things I didn't know I need in stock. I can always find something here to spark my creativity or something new to decorate my home with. The employees are helpful in someways not in others. They can tell you where things are in the store and one or two have some craft knowledge so that's helpful. But they don't really know their own posted coupon policy which is annoying. I'm not the type to haggle people down but if your website says one thing I shouldn't have to prove it to you. I still stick with 5 stars because once I showed them what I read they were fine with granting it. Otherwise I just keep to Pinterest for the inspiration and use the employees for aisle numbers. read more

I ordered the 18" White Bathtub Accent by Ashland. It arrived in a large box with NO packing materials to protect the contents. It was scratched and and feet on the tub are completely marred. They need customer service training BADLY. I went in because the biggest canvas they had was available and on sale but they wouldn't ship or deliver..... they pulled the canvas from the back but just left it. When I went to pick it up, nobody offered to help me take it to the car, nobody offered to help me prepare it for transport to prevent damage. It was just like "Here, bye." Something about craft stores turn me on. Not in the biblical sense of course. Mentally it returns me to my creativeness that escapes me due to the busyness of life. Unfortunately this store doesn't do that for me. Not sure why but it doesn't FEEL inviting. A bit disorganized and long checkout lines. The cashier that waited on me today wasn't very knowledgeable. I gave it three stars strictly because of sale prices. They can be pretty aggressive and you can find good deals. I would caution you to look the merchandise over very carefully as many have flaws that will make your purchase an unhappy one. read more

If you would have told me 10 years ago I'd be happily leaving a review for a Michael's I would've told you that you're crazy and to keep your crafts to yourself. Clearly all the sayings about your taste and interests changing are true because I LOVE me some Michael's. This location is always pretty well organized and I've never had too much of an issue finding what I need. I'm usually in the frames section because it seems like they are always on sale and I'm never going to complain about that. You'd also be surprised how many little things you remember you needed when here. I used to be way more artistic as a child so maybe one day I'll pick something back up. If you don't know the Michaels' chain of stores, well, you are missing out. This is a "Go-to" store for arts and crafts...and a whole lot more. If you are a professional or, even better, an amateur artist or just want to make something creative, Michaels' has just about everything you need. If you have young ones, there are lots of projects and fun things that can spark a young mind to grow ideas for the future. Prices are retail, of course, but they are not overly expensive. This location is a new store--everything is orderly and in place. There is not a thing I could find to improve upon. Check it out. read more

Dominick and his team, especially Jami and Terry can give anyone lessons on superior customer service! This store is my new happy place. I would go out of my way to shop here for my art supplies. I came in before my "Pop-up" show and Dominick and his team members could not have been more friendly and helpful. Jami showed me new framing products that are being introduced after seeing the type of art I make. Dominick literally became my personal shopper to help me find the right supplies for my show along with Terri who graciously watched my dog and my items so I could get my car during a huge downpour! This Michael's is generally well organized and well stocked. The employees at the register are friendly and helpful (particularly if you're mentioned that you've forgotten your coupon). There aren't many workers on the floor, though, so when you have a question, you really have to track somebody down! read more

I went here for tailor's chalk. The local store was out of fabric markers and pointed me here. The store looks tiny from the outside but is very big on the inside. Supplies are organized and they had a good selection of everything. I saw a bunch of thread here for only 99 cents. The fabric pencils I bought were $4.99 though for a pair and I just found out that they don't really work, great! Staff was friendly and polite. read more

It's got a pretty solid DIY household decoration crafts area (I imagine this is the area that varies most from store to store). Whenever I go into this store location, everyone is always so friendly! In fact, I much prefer this location near my office versus the one near my home. However I do have one complaint that just irks me to the core!!! Now I wish I had gotten the lady's name that answered my call and placed me on hold for more than three minutes. I'm writing this review in hopes that the managers see it in order to discuss customer service with the sales associates. The associates are the face of the company and without its customers, there would be no need for Michaels to even exist. I gave this a three rating just based on my in-store experiences with the nice staff. The lady I spoke to could have asked that I call back rather than place me on hold so long. After five minutes I hung up. Any hold time past a minute is just unacceptable! Good help is hard to find is not just a cliche these days. It's actually true. I don't usually care to write reviews, but my first purchase (will be my last) with Michaels compelled me to. I recently bought 18 frames from them, and all of them were not matted to the dimensions they claimed online or on the packaging. In fact, every one of the matts was more than half-an-inch off the mark. I called in to their customer service and all they could say was sorry. Michaels need to realize that every inch/mm counts when it comes to framing artwork or photographs. It doesn't matter the attractive discounts they offer - what good is it when you are not going to get what you paid for? I was going to give them a two-star rating, for their staff who was helpless, but at least helpful in arranging returns. But I immediately decided otherwise when they said they were not going to refund the tax that they charged me for, citing 'policy'. It's a preposterous policy. It's ridiculous that they wanted to pocket the tax when their products were off-spec. I decided to review the products I bought, on their website. Guess what? They screened and rejected all my reviews, saying that my feedback did not meet their guidelines. STAY AWAY FROM THIS STORE if you want to get what you paid for! read more
