The front desk is very rude, especially the lady Norma. I initially scheduled a wisdom teeth extraction here. However I changed my mind to go to oral surgeon for this after some research. So I cancelled the surgery appointment. Since that, Norma started being very unfriendly to me. I ask for the referral from them to oral surgeon. And she was very rude and it seems I am begging her. She treated me very bad every time. I first saw Dr.Foon and then after she left I started to see Dr. Yung. They kept asking me to remove my wisdom teeth. I don't have any teeth problem before that. However after the wisdom teeth removal, I kept having pain in my teeth and I kept mentioning this to them every time and they always say that my teeth have no issue. I have pain almost everyday, how can you say that my teeth are so good? I strongly doubt their ability and the communication does not solve my problem. The only part I like here is the cleaning team. They are all very kind and professional. That's why I kept coming there for three years. Finally, I found another dentist and I finally knows what does a good dentist do. Bye bye! read more

They are very personable with you which goes a long way. I had my first appointment with Dr. Yung this morning and I had an outstanding experience. Every single staff member was kind and friendly. I was greeted upon arrival by Kristy. She had called me yesterday to confirm my appointment. Ceci the Dental Assistant took my x-rays and was also very nice. She gave me a cute welcome gift with a travel mug and toothbrush. Too cute and VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. April the dental hygienist cleaned my teeth after x-rays and was also very gentle. I would say it was my most seamless and painless dental cleaning procedure. After my cleaning, it was time to meet Dr. Yung. He's young, brilliant with excellent chair -side manners. Is that even a term?! Not sure. But he made me feel comfortable. After a routine exam and a thorough review of my x-rays it seems like he might have determined my teeth are A-Ok. Lastly, upon leaving the dental office, Norma, the office manager, escorted me out. It was nice to meet her since I had initially spoken to her when I called the office to make an appointment. She gave me her business card with her contact information to follow up with her with some information. Needless to say, I left the office with a radiant smile. I don't want to forget to mention my chair was a massage chair! How cool is that?! Parking is available in the lot directly behind the Arcade Lane building which houses Dr. Yung's dentistry practice. The lot is accessible via Green street and the more noticable business in the building is Los Portales Mexican Restaurant. I parked at 8:30am and there was no parking attendant in the vicinity. But when I left at around 10am a parking attendant was setting up her booth. I told her I was a patient of Dr. Yung's and she told me with a smile I was okay to leave. I'll be back in 6 months for my next routine cleaning with April, the best hygienist in Pasadena. My search for a local and awesome dentist is over. read more

I had to come back an update this review because I NEED to share my root canal experience. I was terrified at the thought and put it off for a while for many reasons. However, Dr. Yung and his assistant Ceci are absolute angels in disguise. At every chance they got, they asked me if I was doing okay and if I felt any discomfort or pain. After being numbed, which wasn't that bad either, Dr. Yung went in for the root canal...and he did an awesome job...I felt no pain. When the procedure was done I was so relieved and thankful to them. If anyone needs a root canal look no further! You found thee man to do it and everything else! Some Doctors have to send you away to a specialist ..not with Dr. Yung..he's a true pro!! It had been a while since I'd been to the dentist but this crew took care of me. Dr. Yung had the bedside manner that welcomed questions and checked for understanding after the exam. One of the hygienists, Mary, has been excellent! I'm such a fan when people smile and laugh throughout their jobs - it 's a great signal to me they enjoy what they're doing and the environment is welcoming. After several visits to see Mary, I'd highly recommend you see her - she's great! As for the disparaging remarks regarding costs - I don't see it. All the pricing has been above board and consistent. I've been seeing Dr. Michael Yung as my primary dentist for the last 3 years. I feel compelled to write this given the top level of dental care I received from his office. I am 31 years old and have been to a number of dentist across the country in the time frame. Michael Yung is like the Michael Jordan of eye doctors and his team is like the Chicago Bulls of the 90s. They know their stuff. They treat you well. They'll teach you things to help keep your dental hygiene at its peak. I believe he has exceptional talent in hiring great talent, as all his hygienist always go the extra mile to make me walk out feeling good. This is a five star office, hands down. I was new patient at Dr. Yung's office and visited in December '09 for a check-up after 2 years of neglect. Although I consulted with Dr. Yung initially, I saw Dr. Foon most of the time for the actual replacement of fillings and new fillings. She is awesome - very friendly (I think more than Dr. Yung), talkative, thorough and proud of her work. I saw Jason for my cleaning, and he was also outwardly friendly and thorough in explaining what was going on in my mouth and demonstrating brushing and flossing techniques. The receptionists/admin staff are professional and polite. There was no pressuring for any unnecessary stuff here either. Too bad I had to switch to Delta Dental's DHMO plan, which they don't accept, but I had a good couple of first visits. On a side note, I thought it was sweet that the office sent me a birthday card (consequently the first card I got, haha). read more

After a very bad experience with another dental office, I followed Yelp to Michael Yung. Oh, thank God! I always leave their office happy... Getting your teeth cared for at their office is a great way to start the day. :-) The office is beautiful, the staff are friendly and personable, happy, thorough, honest, efficient, knowledgeable, and wonderful in pretty much every way you want a dentist or hygienist to be. They keep thorough computerized records including highlighting potential problem areas, are conservative about the amount of x-ray exposure they put you through (both by using better technology and only taking the minimum x-rays required for keeping a proper eye on your health), and don't push (or even suggest) gimmicks or unnecessary treatments. They took good care of me while I still had braces and gave me a thorough look-over as soon as I got them off (no problems!). I really wanted to find a dental group that I felt I could trust, and I really trust these guys and am so glad that I moved to their office. read more

Dr. Yung was first recommended to me by Jason J and Siao J about 2 years ago. Sadly, back then I had an HMO, which he did not take. After a disastrous experience at a local office and reading some awful reviews about other dentists who were within the HMO network, I decided to wait a whole year until I could switch to a PPO plan. When January finally rolled around and I was able to make the switch, I was disheartened to find out that Dr. Yung was out-of-network, which means my insurance only covers roughly 50%. STILL, I decided to give it a chance and boy am I glad I did. Everyone in the office is just so incredibly nice and caring. When I had a question about my insurance, the receptionist called me back multiple times to share with me what she found out from my insurance company and made sure I knew exactly how much I was going to be paying. The hygenists were friendly and extremely thorough with the clean up. I had four cavities which carved a hole a few hundred dollars deep in my pockets. BUT, for Dr. Yung, I'm willing to part from my stingy Chinawoman ways and pay however much I need to get a quality checkup. An added perk is that Dr. Yung takes Saturday appointments, which is crucial for me since I work quite some distance away. read more

I came to see Dr. Kimberly Foon at this office when I was in search of a new dentist. She is an awesome dentist--very sweet and attentive. She talked me through procedures, and definitely did not rush anything. For the first exam, she checked everything out and was very thorough. She also had to deal with a cavity of mine, and she has gentle yet effective hands. She made the whole process of getting a filling not-so-scary, and talked me through everything, while maintaining friendly chatter, as well as keeping me as comfortable as is possible. The five star is for my experience with the Hygienist in 2008. I didn't get the opportunity to meet the Dentist since he had to go out of town that day. Which was fine, we had a great experience with Jason the RDH. He checked my pockets, gave me a look over exam (decline xrays that day), and spent ample time focusing on cleaning my teeth. The staff and the Dentist, are very friendly and warm and makes it point to make you feel welcome. I still have a main Dentist in SF that I can't seem to let go, so I want to slowly ease into Dr. Yung's office being my main dentist, versus just being my cleaning dentist. So growing up with braces, i loathed the dentists office. I'd been to about 4-5 dentist growing up and never found one that I liked. After hearing about Dr. Yung from an assistant at another dental office, I booked an apt to see him. The staff was welcoming. The office has a variety of magazines to read to comfort those pre-dental visit nerves. Dr. Yung is very knowledgeable & friendly. His support team is wonderfully pleasant as well. I really like places where there is familiarity. I am always recognized when I go in. No one likes getting a filling or teeth scraping, but at Dr. Yung's office I feel better about it. Dr Yung has been our dentist for six years now. After another dentist diagnosed my son with six cavaties, we brought him to Dr Yung's practice for a second opinion. Dr Foon was great with him and gave a more proper diagnosis. He actually looks forward to going to the dentist--they are great with kids. The whole office is very caring and has been very helpful for myself and husband and mother-in-law --the whole family with all our varied needs! I highly recommend the practice. My recent crown replacement went super smooth, and they were very careful to ensure I was comfortable throughout the entire procedure. I have been going to see Dr. Yung for a few years now. I have really enjoyed the staff and Dr. Yung himself. My hygienist always apologizes for being a perfectionist and I always tell him I can't think of a better profession for that and love that he takes the time to really clean my teeth. It never hurts. Dr. Yung always comes in and is very friendly. He listens to any concerns I may have and I'm done. His office has parking in the back although I always forget and park on the street out front. I like this office a lot. The dental hygienists here were the first to give me really helpful cleaning tips without me asking. Dr. Yung and Dr. Poon are both really nice and professional. The staff is timely, too, which you can't expect at all places. The office itself is very clean. The only reason I'm not giving a five-star review is because I've been pushed to set up an Invisalign consulting appointment a couple of times. All other dentists I've been to have asked if I had braces and were surprised to find out I hadn't. This was the first dentist office to say that I should look into Invisalign--and after reading other reviews--I know I'm not the only one with this experience. read more

Dr. Foon is the go-to resource at this office. She has a limited schedule, so be sure to ask for her. You can expect a practice that is not cutting corners, trying to offer the lowest cost by accepting what insurance pays in exchange for making up the difference by cutting corners and sacrificing your dental care. A cleaning here involves a dedicated technician who handles the fully electronic x-rays and a detailed cleaning. After the cleaning, you meet with the Dr. to review x-rays, do an oral exam and discuss your needs. Expect a good hour or hour and a half of service for your $. The office staff is great, from the front office, through the tech's and Dr's. I highly recomend "if" you pay for service and quality and value these aspects when seeing a dentist. If you just want a cheap and quick cleaning, there are plenty of other places more fit to meet your needs. read more

Called to schedule a teeth cleaning for me and another person. Questions were asked of us and the appointments made. We made clear: No X Rays! Appointment time arrived and after filling out forms, was told that this appointment was NOT for a cleaning but for an exam. Was told an exam must be scheduled first, and a cleaning later. At the beginning of the exam, it was made clear again that we didn't want x rays. The very nice dentist continued to push x rays with dire warnings of lesions and other issues if we didn't. Finally I got up and said I was leaving. I wasn't going to get my cleaning. I was being forced to spend time and money on an exam I didn't ask for. I was being aggressively sold x rays even after I made it clear I didn't want them. I told them I would pay for the beginning of the exam. They didn't charge me. They were kind and apologetic but not interested at all in making it right. There is nothing on their website today about having to go twice in order to get a teeth cleaning. It SEEMS, like some people have already said here, that this particular operation is overly concerned about getting money out of their customers every way they can. Not cool. read more

I have no idea why this guy keeps getting rated Best Dentist. To me, Best Dentist is about the whole package. Honestly, I cannot speak for his dentistry skills. But what I can tell you is about my experience. When I went to see Dr. Yung, I told him what insurance I had and was told his office accepted it. (They failed to say they accepted it but it was out of network and that mean a huge $$ on my end.) In my entire life, I have NEVER, EVER had a dentist so aggressively try to sell me services while I was a captive audience in the dental chair. SO pushy! And when I told him of my grave financial plight, he went on about payment plans. Pushing, pushing, pushing! UNREAL! He would not STOP! He did want to not take NO for an answer. Dr. Yung's "chairside manner" is absolutely inappropriate and disgraceful. As if that wasn't bad enough, he told me that I needed WAY more work than the subsequent dentist that I went to see. But it was quite obvious from the way he described all of the work, adding in dramatic scenarios of gloom, that he was pushing to do the MOST amount of work that could possibly be done. The man has dollar signs in his eyes. Greedy, greedy, greedy! I get so angry thinking about it. Since my visit, I have told my story to people in the Pasadena area, only to find that Dr. Yung is well known for his greed & frequent misrepresentations. There are plenty of GOOD dentists out there. Really good dentists. Nobody needs to see a greedy guy like this. You will never get a clear picture of what work you really need. I wish I could give him zero stars. I am sickened and appalled by the way this man does business. One last thing: the first thing he will do is check your insurance plan to find out what is allowed and then attempt to max it out! I'll attempt to make my horror story short, I had already reach my max for the year (due to all his recommendations and previous work) but his office went ahead and provided non emergency work knowing I hit my dental max for the year. Conclusion... the dental service became an out of pocket expense which they billed me a year later. Try to resolve the issue with Christy and my dental insurance with no success. Basically pay the debt or hello collection agency. Fast forward today and guess what...Collection Notice. I've been coming to this dentist for a few years now, although I live almost 30 miles away. Yes! It is worth the drive! The office is squeaky clean, staff is professional, and it runs like a well oiled machine. First dental office that doesn't make me wait past my appointment time to see me. I recently started coming to Dr. Yung after a long period of not having a regular dentist. After moving to the area from West LA, I found Dr. Yung to have some of the most favorable reviews for dentists in Pasadena. Unfortunately, his offices only take PPO insurance so I had to wait the year out and switch over to PPO at the open enrollment period. It took awhile to get started, but now I'm happy to say I've finally found a dentist. Dr. Yung is very personable and called to welcome me as a new patient before I came in for my initial appointment. During the first appointment, he sits down with you and goes over the details of the x-rays and gives your chompers a thorough initial evaluation. As a new patient, I felt he really wanted to make sure you understood and even explained some of the dental terminology in layman's terms. I did not feel rushed or hurried like I have with other dentists. My biggest hurray is with Mary, the hygienist. I'll spare you the gory details but in a nutshell, it was awhile since I had a thorough cleaning and she really took the time to show me (embarrassingly) proper flossing techniques. (Gross I know, but apparently but improper flossing is something many people are guilty of)! So far Dr. Yung's offices have been very professional and the people here go out of their way to educate you so your future visits to the dentist can be quick and easy. read more

Idk whether Dr.Yung is good or not. But I went there to remove my wisdom teeth, and I asked both assistants and doctor, how much was that. They told me they gonna check first. After taking 2 x-ray photos they told me: we don't do oral surgery (remove wisdom teeth). And they charged me $129. I was like: wtf?? I told u I wanted to remove my teeth at the beginning, that was completely trolling me! Dr and assistants look good, friendly and professional, but ur behavior was disgusting. Btw, Dr.Yung referred Dr.Niemann to do the surgery. He is so good. Just go that Huntington Oral Surgery if u want remove or do any surgery. Highly recommended. And u don't need to do any x-ray before, since u would have a much better x-ray here. read more

I always get reminder calls or emails prior to my appointments. Dr. Yung fixed a filling mishap that had been caused by another dentist and I haven't had any problems with it since. I was also impressed that he was honest with me about a procedure that I thought I might need, but turned out I did not. When I went back for my cleaning I was so pleased! Johnna is the bomb! She did an extremely thorough job and gave me great advice on how to cut down on staining. And for the icing on the cake, she's just as sweet as she can be... a real joy to be around. Dr. Yung provided the most positive dental visit I have ever had. I was having severe pain and my general dentist was out of town, but he left Dr. Yung's phone number in the event of a dental emergency. I was nervous about calling and trusting someone who I had never met, especially because I have had some horrific experiences in the past, but Dr. Yung made it easy. He picked up my call on a Saturday evening and called in a prescription for me as he was on his way to a wedding reception. Shortly thereafter, his wife called me back to let me know that the prescription had been called in and told me that they would call me later in the evening to see how I was feeling. Later on, I did get a call from Dr. Yung and he suggested that if the pain wasn't significantly better in the morning (SUNDAY!!) that I should come in to see him. The pain got worse, and he opened his office just for me on Sunday. He filled cavities, cleaned my teeth, did x rays, and most importantly numbed the pain so I could get through the day and actually eat. He called me again later on to check on me. Never in my life have I encountered anyone in the medical community that made me feel as if they actually cared about my well-being and not my wallet, I was literally astounded by the amount of time, effort, and kindness that Dr. Yung put in to treating me, especially taking the time out of his weekend with his family. This was even more extraordinary because we had never met before...he was doing all of this for somebody else's patient, because he truly cares. Dr. Yung and his staff are so kind and attentive! Since my husband and I have been patients of Dr. Yung, we have moved all over the city and changed jobs. I work in Culver City -- but I will only go to Dr. Yung! It is worth taking half a sick day to make it out to Pasadena. All of the hygienists are great -- and the whole experience is just wonderful. Dr. Yung is nice and very professional but I simply feel that they are trying too hard to sell their services instead of offering what is medically necessary. After having no cavities in my life, I was told last year that I had a pre-cavity (or a similar term) and that I should get a sealant. Although I was wary of this, I agreed, figuring it was not too expensive and better safe than sorry. This year, I was told that I now had another pre-cavity that should be filled. Given that my hygiene routine is the same or better than it always has been and I use an electric toothbrush, this seemed suspicious. I ran it by my childhood/early adulthood doctor and upon examination, he said I was fine. The staff is really nice and I'm sorry to go but after this experience and their other selling of unnecessary dental products, they do not seem truthful. Since I found Dr. Yung on Yelp, I wanted to let future patients know about my experience. read more

Dr. Yung is a true professional. However, what makes him different from others is that he has an elegance and awareness when working. That may sound silly when writing about a dentist, but it is true. You can tell he cares and catches every detail. He is aware what we are going through as we sit in the chair. He checks in and makes sure that we are not only getting the best work, but also where we are in the process and what is happening inside our mouths. I find that refreshing. I trust him with my entire family. My wife had invisalign...went great. My daughter (10) has had multiple cleanings and check-ups...no problems and no FEAR to go see Dr. Yung.
