I've been going to Blue Door Dental since I moved to Pasadena and have had a positive experience each time. The location has parking in the back, and is always clean. My appointments have always been timely, and the receiptionist, dental hygenists and Dr. Pacheco have been friendly and professional to me. I'm always asked if I'm comfortable, if I have any concerns etc. I was evening looking into getting a possible mouth guard, which the receptionist was able to look up my insurance to see if I would be covered right away -- it's not :( boo, but very helpful to get that info before doing any ordering. My teeth are usually pretty good so I've only gone in for the bi-annual cleanings, but I recently had to get a filling and it was very smooth. I was in and out within 30 minutes which was super appreciated on a work day morning! read more

I've been looking for a new dentist in the Pasadena area and I'm glad I made time to schedule an appointment. Their team has been amazing throughout the entire process from the moment I scheduled to the actual appointment itself. The team has been very warm and welcoming. I was called 15 minutes prior to my appointment, as I was parking outside their building and was told by the rude women at the front desk that they didn't take my dental insurance. I had made the appointment months in advance. Shouldn't they have checked prior to 15 minutes before my appointment? The 2 nasty women at the front desk did not even apologize. I was willing to pay cash since I wanted to be seen by the dentist, but their attitude was so rude and nasty that I simply left, I was very disgusted with their attitude. They wouldn't even tell me which dental insurance they accepted. Plus I did call my dental insurance and was told that what these women told me was incorrect. I can't imagine how many clients have been turned away because these women are too lazy to check with the dental insurance companies as they are paid to do. read more

Dr. Pacheco and his team are the best! I came here for the first time since before Covid and was a little nervous for my appointment after going without a visit for years. The staff was so kind and patient, Dr. Pacheco asked thoughtful questions regarding my teeth sensitivity, and created an easy action plan to help tackle my pain. The space itself is gorgeous, classic Pasadena charm, with natural light and a garden view while you get your cleaning. Ask for a pre-estimate from your insurance and then call your insurance to find out what your portion will be or they are going to stiff you for remaining balance that you will be unaware of beforehand. Do not rely on the estimate they provide you as it was constantly too low and they made it appear that that document was the official pre-estimate amounts of what I would owe. Later on I received another bill above what I had already paid in the office on the day of the procedure. I asked the Dr. if he would be willing to adjust a future amount for the amount I was stuck paying and wasn't prepared for since I was not told the right pre-estimate amount since they never submitted one to my insurance I found out later on. It's sad because I liked the doctor I thought he would be willing to work with me and keep me as a patient but I guess not. Linda and Eleanor his front staff can be very rude, they cut you off when speaking do not actively listen to what you are saying so then ask the same questions you just gave the answers to and are argumentative. I'm not even sure they discussed any of this thoroughly with the doctor. When I emailed what I thought was him directly about this behavior I never received an answer which makes me believe it was intercepted by the front staff and he never was aware. If he is aware of the behavior and continues to employ it then shame on him and he just lost a patient because of it, because that's what I was told that he knew and wasn't going to work with me. If the doctor is unaware if he can get other people for him at the front desk, kinder people, then he would be great. Currently, do not recommend this place or if you go here just do what I suggested above to protect yourself. There is parking available for free in the back of the building it's an older building bathrooms are super tiny and could use a Reno. The instrument they use to scan teeth is too big I've had smaller and this one sort of gags you. You need at least 2 hours initially one for consultation and X-rays with doctor and second hour is with cleaning. I will be paying my bill but I won't be returning, good luck to anyone who reads this you have been warned. read more

Dr Pacheco seems to be very knowledgeable. He's young, and I like that, because he's closer to modern techniques, and advanced dentistry. I went in for a cleaning and x-rays, just the other day. His hygienist was so nice. My father was a very good dentist in L.A. for 40+ years. So I'm pretty spoiled. Of course, I never had to pay. I think Dr Pacheco is on the expensive side, but I don't really know that. I went to him because he took over the practice of Dr Angelus. And I went to Dr Angelus because he was recommended by my periodontist. And I didn't have to listen to any jive about whitening my teeth or giving me veneers, which could fall off, after a while. My previous dentist was a super salesman. But, I felt that I could see through that. I just wanted somebody who was honest and legitimate. And I think I've found that in Dr Pacheco. I tried the HMOs, through my company's Blue Cross Insurance, many years ago. Don't even go there. The HMOs AND some good, experienced dentists really want to sell veneers, which can fall off, and a teeth whitening procedure which on some people works great, and some people, like me, not at all. My girlfriend has to find a new dentist because her dentist totally changed their staff. So she's going to call around and ask about pricing first, and I told her to put Dr Pacheco on the list. I wrote a review about Dr Pacheco's office several months ago, giving it just three stars. It really wasn't negative. I was simply saying that he was expensive compared to what the internet says is the average in price. But, when you take all the dentists together, I'm not so sure the average dentist is a very good dentist, at all. So that might have been an unfair comparison that I made at the time. Anyway, I'm going to continue to go back to him. And I'm glad I found somebody that can I feel I can rely on. By the way, he has the nicest front office staff. read more

Compelled to submit a second review to comment on response to our concerns with the changes in the practice. My wife has shared in person to Dr. Pacheco several times the difficulties with rude front desk interactions. She also requested a call back recently to discuss further. Nothing has happened with either attempt to discuss concerns. Instead, a cheeky reply on Yelp taking a swipe at me hiding behind a computer screen. I have to post on a computer screen because Dr. Pacheco is not interested in speaking with unhappy patients. No courage. If people want a fully automated practice that has substituted text confirmations for human beings who can answer questions and help with information, this is the practice for you. So bummed about how this practice has changed. We went to Dr. Angeles for nearly 20 years with my wife and four kids. Dr. Pacheco bought the practice and replaced the receptionists and scheduling staff with truly horrible humans. They are awful and are ruining his business into the ground. Dr. Pacheco took over this business several years ago and I really appreciate all of the upgrades he's made in both the facility and the implementation of modern technology for treatments. I was particularly appreciative recently when I needed to have a front tooth veneer replaced. I was warned that this is a very difficult thing to do, as you have to match both color and shape of the neighboring front tooth. Dr. Pacheco did a thorough job documenting my original smile with digital imagery and a physical cast, and he worked with the offsite lab through multiple iterations until he got the perfect color match. Then upon seeing the shape wasn't perfect, he helped me make alignment adjustments to my retainer and then did manual shaping of the tooth until it was right. And he did all of this extra service with no additional charge - a total of 6 visits and I was only ever charged the original service fee (and only paid once I was satisfied with the result). I was a patient years ago, and left only because my company acquired dental insurance and he was not on the "approved" list. What a mistake I made. I went through two dental factories, where people tried to up-sell me to additional treatment. I returned to Dr. Angelos knowing that my insurance would not pay much of it. Best decision I ever made. He cares. He is conservative. I just had a partial crown, my first, and was terrified. He and his staff were so caring and wonderful, it wasn't bad at all. My father was the first to go and has been sending all his 11 kids there since. He and the whole staff are the most professional, knowledgable, honest, and kind hearted people you'll ever find in a medical practice. Every time I've been there to get a cleaning or any work done they talk to me about how much I've grown, how all my different siblings are, and how my Dad is. They remember all the little things about our lives and treat us as friends as well as patients. It's an amazing feeling to know that your dentist genuinely cares about you, especially with so many doctors out there who hardly seem to treat their patients as people. Dr. Angelos and all his staff are the kind of people that make visiting a dentist something enjoyable.
