I had been going to Ohana for several years, starting at their original location. During that time, I had two crowns placed there. Recently, I switched to a new dentist, who discovered that both crowns had been improperly fitted. There were visible gaps around them, and one even had a hole. She was surprised that I had been seen regularly over the years and that these issues had never been identified. I was referred to a root canal specialist to determine whether the affected teeth could be saved. The specialist confirmed the poor quality of the crown work and was equally surprised that it had gone unnoticed for so long. Unfortunately, the damage had progressed to the point where the roots could no longer be salvaged. I now have to undergo the lengthy, invasive, and expensive process of getting dental implants. I understand that dental work doesn't always go as planned, but what is most disappointing is that these problems were apparently visible and should have been caught during routine visits before they reached this stage. I truly wanted to give this dentist the benefit of the doubt. I've seen him a couple of times before and had a good experience. This time, I felt like he was trying to upsell, but after my most recent visit, I can confidently say that is exactly what's happening. My crown had come off and I needed a replacement quickly, so I returned here out of convenience. From the start, it felt like he was focused on selling me the most expensive options rather than giving honest recommendations. I chose a porcelain crown, but what frustrated me was that he never mentioned that a metal crown would have been a better, longer-lasting choice for a back tooth until after my porcelain crown was permanently cemented two weeks later. Had he told me that upfront, I would have chosen the more durable option without hesitation. He also kept changing his explanation for why my original crown came off. At first he told me it was likely due to the cementing not being done correctly. Two weeks later, he changed the story and said it was probably because of grinding, not cementing. The inconsistency felt unprofessional and confusing. The first appointment was also incredibly frustrating he was overbooked and juggling too many patients, and with only one dentist working, I ended up being there for almost three hours just for a mold and a basic cleaning. I almost didn't make it in time to pick up my kids. Speaking of the cleaning, it was honestly the most aggressive cleaning I've ever experienced. I bled far more than normal not because my teeth were overly dirty, but because of how rough he was. Even when placing my permanent crown and removing excess cement, he scraped my gums so hard that I felt it immediately and tasted blood. It was completely unnecessary. The environment itself is clean, which I appreciate, but the overall experience felt more like dealing with a salesperson than a genuine dentist. Even his staff didn't seem happy to be there. The front staff lady kept asking me to reschedule my 6 month cleaning after I told her twice I was going to call and schedule it later. She even tried asking me to schedule it in January even though I just got the cleaning done 2 weeks ago. Dentist informed me there would be a $350 extra fee to have my crown delivered sooner, something my previous dentist never charged for. It felt like yet another upsell. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. Clean office or not, I want a dentist who is honest, consistent, and focused on patient care not one who prioritizes sales. read more

Writing a review almost a year later. I received a cleaning in November of 2024. 5 stars because the work was great, my dental hygienist was friendly, and the facilities were spotless. I received a call from Dr. Kang 10 months after service stating that I had a balance to pay because insurance partially denied my claim (this is not uncommon). Customer service: Not a lot of aloha from staff and doctor. Dentists are not a fun place to go to begin with, but to be as new patient there could be better welcoming and introductions to each other. It seems that they skimp out on a few things as they had single ply toilet paper. There was no dental hygienist. Poor hand hygiene: If anything the major reason for a 3/5 is poor hand hygiene. The staff use their gloves as barrier for themselves because they used the same gloves to place xray jacket on me, move equipment around, and adjust my mouth and teeth. They gave me glasses and with those same gloves used to place bites in my mouth. Nice that it has a TV and they use imaging to build a dental image of your mouth. read more

I had been going to the same office for 20+ years until i moved to LA/Pasadena. I was nervous but everything went well for my routine teeth cleaning. The dentist also advised me on how to help my TMJ and i was given botox right then and there for $10/unit. everything went well-- no complaints and it didn't hurt at all. Do not trust this place. They give you this long story about how you are family, then they treat you with little compassion and poor work. I went in after seeing positive reviews - just for a standard cleaning and a little sensitivity in one area. Soon, the doctor pointed out that a completely pain free area of my mouth was the bigger concern - that a tooth with multiple fillings had a crack in the filling and I needed a crown asap. Well, ok I guess... seems they're nice and know what they're doing right? Nope. They end up drilling into the nerve and cause MONTHS of pain. I called multiple times when both the temporary and permanent crown were highly sensitive and was basically told to wait it out. When they were installing the permanent crown, they also REFUSED to numb me, even when I said it hurt bad and they had to apply and remove the crown multiple times before the tech (not the doctor) actually got my crown shape right. Worst of all, now about a year later I'm in TERRIBLE pain because the crown is infected (something that likely started due to the nerve issues I was experiencing early on). I'm now looking at a root canal at best, extraction at worst. Do. Not. Be. Fooled. They are all talk, and just want your money. read more

Wife and I have been coming here for a couple years and in that time they've done regular cleanings that are quick, painless, and affordable, and then a crown for me that was all the same. Turns out I have some cavities now and Daisy at the front desk was kind enough to take me through the different options step by step more than once, making it easy to understand and to make choices based on that, including payment plans for things not covered by insurance. I have been coming here for years and so to find out how I have been scammed and possibly mistreated for multiple years is so infuriating. Please take note of all the negative reviews from other patients as they are accurate. First of all, their treatments are expensive and they purposely overcharge you and the insurance companies. Since when did a nightguard cost $660 (without insurance)? Now the part that infuriates me the most. Mind you, I have been getting fillings done couple of times here; it seems like they find new cavities every year during my annual cleaning. I have always been good with flossing and brushing my teeth so I find it weird that cavities were more frequent compared to when I was a teen. So the last time I went to cleaning was earlier this year and of course I had to get fillings done again. They wanted to proceed with the fillings right after my cleaning but thank god I trusted my gut feeling and declined. I ended getting a second opinion with a dentist a month later who is more experienced in years and after oral examination, he said I have NO cavities. We also took x-rays to confirm and I brought the proposed treatment plan from Ohana with me to show him which exact teeth Dr. Kang wanted to work on--the new dentist confirmed again, NO CAVITIES. After hearing that, my heart sank because I trusted Ohana Dental but realized they were scamming and making me do treatments when I don't need them. Note that a lot of my molar teeth had been filled by them and they were going to do the same fillings again on the teeth that already had work done. And the fact that they ALWAYS administer anesthesia for even surface-level fillings just show how they overcharge for unnecessary operations. For current patients, please look at your treatment plans carefully and ask for second opinion before proceeding with any procedures. What a disappointment. I want to believe that Dr. Kang actually was genuine early on and really cared for his patients. But now, not so much. It's crazy how we put so much trust into our healthcare providers to only know some lack sincerity. On a side note, there was a time that he had to do my teeth cleaning since I guess he didn't have other dentists there to do the dirty work, so he had to do mine himself. He was impatient, let out a big sigh before putting his gloves on, and had the worst attitude (not towards me but towards the fact he had to do cleaning himself). It was the quickest 5-min cleaning I ever had. That experience stuck with me but I was too lazy to change my dentist. But now I know that was a sign. Will never step foot into this establishment ever again. read more

A friend told me about Ohana Dental, so I tried it out before bringing my whole family. From making an appointment to leaving, everything went smoothly. There was a parking lot and plenty of street parking, and the office looked nice and spacious. The staff were friendly and explained payment options clearly. I have been a loyal client here for 3 years now and today I finally made the decision to take my business elsewhere. I used to think going to the dentist was a regular part of maintaining my health, but I realize now it's all just a business! I got a root canal and several crowns here. While I cannot speak to the quality of the root canal, I do know the quality of the crowns here is poor. I had issues with the fit of the one crown (had to come in to get it shaved and they charged me for that when it was their mistake) and I had extreme pain and discomfort with a different crown. I came in emergently to get that crown fixed because of the pain and caught some attitude from Dr Kang about coming in on his day off and having to leave his kids at home. In that moment, I was very empathetic and grateful to him, but looking back, that was incredibly unnecessary and unprofessional to mutter to a patient who is coming in bc your work was shoddy in the first place. The crown issues don't end there. Yesterday my crown fell off. They said I have to get more X-rays and pay for an examination fee. I have literally gotten so many x rays here. You would think that they would actually do something with those scans and warn me about the deteriorating quality of my crown or the decaying tooth under it. What am I paying for exactly? I'm appalled at the lack of accountability here. The exam and X-rays for this faulty crown should be free of charge. Lastly, the claims they submit to my insurance are insaaane (most of their claim items are rejected by Delta bc of lack of documentation and proof). It just all feels so scammy to me and I'm upset I spent so much time putting my trust in this practice. Look elsewhere if you care about the quality of your dental work. I'm really sorry to leave this review, but these are my honest thoughts and I hope the practice can learn from my experience. Edit: Lol. Your response is textbook nonchalance and negligence from a business who clearly cannot take feedback. I clearly remember saying please and thank you, and never made any rude comments. Very weird to use a terrible, personal situation to guilt me for writing an honest review.
