Visited this restaurant for the first time today. I ordered empanadas and the Mi Tierrita Special. The food was tasty and filling. The only issue I have is with the wait staff and the food is a little too expensive for the type of restaurant. I asked two different employees for my drink to be refilled three times before it finally was. That was super disappointing since it's something that is simple to not to miss. Went there for the first time with a friend of mine. It is a casual restaurant that doesn't really offer anything aesthetically. With that being said, the food and the service was excellent. We had sweet plantains as an appetizer. I've never had them before. I enjoyed them. I got a grilled flank steak with interesting fried potatoes and rice and beans which was to die for. The portion is meant to be shared. I ordered Tongue en Salsa. It tastes so goood. The sauce is like a light tomato salsa. The skirt steak is a bit dry. The rotisserie chicken is ok. So I placed an order to go. As I waited I sat at the bar and asked for a pina colada. The lady at the bar rinsed the blender in hot water. Well, it wasn't clean. So I changed my mind and asked for a rum and coke and she looked at me like I had 3 heads. So I then asked for it in Spanish, she still didn't understand and called someone else. The person cutting the lime was wearing gloves but she wasn't. She Made these drinks with no gloves and was touching every thing plus the garnish. I made sure I had no garnish. Found hair on my food the manager was disgusting , he said and I quote "it happens in every restaurant" , the floor was filthy table was dirty even the can of soda was dirty , don't recommend going there ! Best Colombian food I've had! I had the typical platter which has the corn cake, steak, chicharron, egg, avocado, plaintain, beans and rice. The beans are DELICIOUS! It made the whole platter lick-a-licious. The chicharron was so perfectly crispy yet chewy. And the fact that the one platter will last for a few servings makes it even more awesome! . After waiting nearly 35 minutes for the food, we realized we weren't the only ones waiting. A bold "cucaracha" was waiting as well and crawled onto our table. We smashed it and called the manager over who apologized but TOO LATE we were sickened and had to leave. The food is here is amazing and the portions are good. BUT some staff are really rude and roll their eyes a lot which is horrendous service. We have been here several times now. First off the Picada is a must have. How can you go wrong with a mound of steak, pork, sausage, fried yuca and plantains for 23 bucks. I have had their steak dinners and they are always cooked just right, juicy and delicious. If I were to say anything negative it would be the decor or lack there of. Definitely needs to be updated. Terrible place. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The waitress could barely understand my order and had a bad attitude. When we received our order they forgot my mother's food so she ended up eating some of our food. The staff, depending on who you get, speaks the most minimal english. average wait time for a table of 5 is 25-35 minutes.i'm not that crazy about the service. they don't come back to check on you enough and when you want something it seems like they're never around. if you ask for apple juice for the kids clarify it 2 or 3 times because they have some apple soda garbage which seems to be very popular in that hemisphere. read more

This is for the one in patchogue. They used to be great. Now its dingy and dark, no music, service was horrendous! I almost got up to leave and the waitress noticed and asked someone else to get our order which took forever. A 3rd person brought our food out and not 1 of them came by to ask if we were ok or needed anything else. The worst part was probably the kid working there with the adidas who didn't know how to walk properly and kept making squeeky/screeching noises from dragging his feet. All I wanted was a nice dinner with my husband and this left me more stressed than if we had stayed home with the kids. For the 2nd time in a row I order from Mi Tierrita and ask to please not burn the chicken and I get chicken burned to the crisp. When I called them to let them know of this, they did not want to do anything to help. They also filled all of our rice and bean trays half way. The food is fantastic and The portions are huge.the rotisserie chicken is my favorite although I love to venture off and try new things. The service is great and they offer spicy sauce to go if you get take out. I love the Mora juice with milk and the specialty platters that have a little bit of everything. This is the worse restaurant I have been in many years. First there were at least 5 families waiting to be seated and no body came to greet the customers, when they finally came the waiter took our names and have to wait to be seated even though the place was completely empty. The place was thirty, tables and floors were disgusting. The food looked ok until my husband found. Hair in his food. When we called the waited her answer was " oh do you one to order something else?" She never apologized. When I asked for the check they never return to our table to collect payment, I had to get up and go pay at the register. The food good when it's serve properly. I've been going to mi Tierrita in Brentwood for over 25 years but over there the service has also changed for the worse. In both places the waiters are rude and have no manners. Best Latin food in the area! Nothing fancy, but good food at great prices. You are sure to have leftovers for the next day. Comfortable setting, friendly staff and quick order to table time. The Sangria is the best I've had. I have only one complaint, the hot sauce they put on the table gets re-used. I saw them take a half finished container from a table and fill up that same container and put it back out onto a different table. Now not everyone uses the spoon, some people like to dip and double dip pieces of their food into this hot sauce, this is where the problem is, this can spread germs. read more

We have been going to this restaurant for years and food was always excellent. However, our waitress yesterday was absolutely horrible. She didn't speak English and even though I spoke to her in English she kept on speaking to us in Spanish. She didn't understand and screwed up the entire order. We kept on telling her that she was bringing us wrong food and instead of getting someone that speaks English she kept on bring wrong orders. The only reason we didn't walk out is because their food is good and my husband kept on telling me not to get upset. On the top of everything when she brought our check it was screwed up too and almost $30 more than our usual check there. Just to make it clear, we have been going there for years at least once a month but at this point we are going to wait for a while. Staff needs to be trained and owners need to understand that there are customers that would like to enjoy this restaurant food but won't be able to get their orders right if they don't speak Spanish,there is an issue of communication between customers and staff read more
