HORRIBLE FOOD AND MANAGEMENT AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! Got 2 caldo de res' for my girlfriend and I, as we were under the weather. Once I got home with the food, we realized just how greasy the caldo's were. Half of it just a greasy mess, with barely any veggies and a few weird chunks of meat. I went back to confirm we even got the right thing at first, but was answered with "this a good caldo, good caldo, what are you talking about" by one of the owners. To which after I explained what a caldo was, the "wife" got mad and asked what I wanted. I asked for a refund and vowed to never return. fyi I am Hispanic born and raised and know what a caldo is. My Dad and I have been going to this place for the past 10-15 years and it has been my favorite restaurant of all time since Day 1. The staff recognizes us every time and are so friendly to us and to everyone they encounter. The food has stayed inexpensive throughout the years, but the quality and authenticity of the food says otherwise. Mi Ranchito has never disappointed us and has always served quality, delicious food. Chicken tamales 10/10 loved Pork 9/10 Sweet potato tamales 10/10 Vegetarian 6/10 (just corn and black beans) not anything amazing but they are vegan. Avocado salsa 8/10 not great but pretty good. I picked these up for Christmas and had an easy order experience and everything was great and ready to pick up easily. Don't feel heavy after eating these! We ordered takeout today and had a good experience. We're all used to online ordering, but you have to order over the phone here. No problem, though. The person who answered was knowledgeable and the ordering process was very smooth. I was ordering for me and my 3 kids and the order was taken in a way that inspired confidence that I'd get what I ordered. We were quoted 15 minutes. I sent my son to pick up the order and it was ready when he got there. The order was exactly what we ordered including a couple of special requests (beans in a separate container on the flauta plate and no tomatoes on the crispy tacos). I the Super C combo. The enchilada was a little scrambled, but was tasty. The fajita taco, flautas, rice and beans were all well prepared, hot, and had good flavor. I also had a chile relleno which I enjoyed. Their rellenos are the style with egg on the outside (think thin omelet). Everything was correct in flavor, texture and temperature. My only complaint is the styrofoam containers allow for some leakage in the bags and make it messy when you get the order home. Wasn't the worst I've seen, but meant some extra cleanup at home. I rate it a 4.5. Would have been a 5 with better togo containers. read more

Although this restaurant is a bit of a drive I gave it a try based on other yelp reviews. The food here is good and clearly homemade. I ordered the gordita plate (filled with picadillo) rice and beans on the side. The gordita had a great taste but was in two pieces so it was difficult to pick up and eat. The picadillo was good but I would've liked a little more flavor/spice. Rice was a little mushy. I ordered pork tamales also. The tamales are the standout here but are a little pricey at $17 per dozen. This is a good restaurant with friendly people and good looking menu. I'm not sure I'll make the drive again since there are other options closer to home. read more

Big fan of this hole in the wall. Tamales are amazing, especially the chicken. Highly recommend the mole enchiladas (reminds me of the mole enchiladas they used to have at Matt's El Rancho). I came here during COVID, so there was no dine-in (which I appreciated). Their food comes out fast and hot, their service is super friendly. It seems like they have a bit of outdoor seating (when covid is over) which I will take advantage of. Also appears to be a couple items that are not on their online menu, I recommend just looking at some of the photos people have posted. read more

Mi Ranchito is one of my favorite places in Austin. The staff is a super sweet family who is always kind and helpful. The food is delicious! I'd recommend the polzole soup, the quesadillas, the alambre plate, and of course the flan and tres leches. It has the feel of a place that, pre-Covid was an awesome location for families to meet up with grandma, eat tamales, some chips and queso and some flan (of course) while reminiscing and telling stories. It will be that again one day and I'll be ready. The ratio in masa to meat in a tamale is a science and it gets harder to land it the bigger the tamale is but they've never failed me. Amazing handmade tamales! You can tell they're homemade - the maza is so flavorful. Top two are the chicken tamales and jalapeño/cheese tamales. They're also a really great size!! Also picked up a horchata and Jamaica tea drink. So good! read more

I was on a hunt for tamales, so I cheated on my regular taco place with Mi Ranchito. I liked it! Nice paved parking, not hard to find, very cute interior with plenty of tables to match the small-sized parking lot. I can tell the parking fills up and the early bird gets the taco. I was the early bird today so not my problem! The bacon is crumbles, not strips. I prefer strips but I was fine with it, both my tacos were delicious. The chorizo was pleasantly spicy and not greasy at all. The tacos come on cute little 6 inch tortillas which is perfect for just having one if you're not super hungry. The mild salsa was flavorful and lovely. I tried the hot avocado one and felt that it exists to add heat but not really flavor. I'll probably stick with mild or try the roasted tomato one next time. My husband thought his sausage and egg taco was bland but in my opinion all sausage and egg tacos in the history of time have been bland so I'm not taking points off for that. read more

Another amazing visit to Mi Ranchito!!...We pick up our Granddaughter at least once a month, and this will likely turn out to be our new spot before she gets out of school. Service again was spot on...Place was busy, they do a lot of take out orders, so most people were waiting for there orders. The menu is vast and the wife stuck to her Guns with the Beef Chiladas...I went a different direction... well almost...stuck to my Chicken Childadas, Green Sauce, Charros and Rice...along with that, it also came with a Tostada with Beef fajita meat...and on the side I ordered a Barbacoa Taco...a new adventure for me...Flavors were popping in everything I ate...Plates were Hot when they hit the table, and along with the Salsa bar.. its a must...We know we enjoy our meal when we are still taking about it a couple days later and planning our next visit....Cant be here soon enough! read more

Yummmmmm. I was recently living in the South Austin/Manchaca area for a few months, and was quickly introduced to this place when I asked a friend where I could get good breakfast tacos in the area. I ended up ordering breakfast tacos from there at least several times a week while I was living in the area! The tamales are also homemade, and delicious. I've tried both pork, and chicken, and greatly enjoyed both of them. They sell them by the dozen as well, so you can take them home for later. I also enjoy the queso, agua Fresca, and horchata. I've heard that all of their menu items are excellent, but for all the times I've eaten at this cute little taqueria, I have tended to stick to the same items -- I just like them so much! read more

We were in town for a wedding and looking for a yummy taco spot. This hole in the wall has some bomb ass tacos!!! We went this morning for breakfast and they did not have barbacoa ready, so I changed my order on the fly. Ended up with three types of tacos - carnitas, al pastor and chorizo, egg and cheese. The carnitas was knock yourself socks off delicious! Easily the BEST carnitas tacos I have ever put in muh belly!!! The al pastor was very tasty. I felt like the chorizo was different then what I was used to. But still really good. I actually wondered if they made their own after tasting it. Maybe they do! This family is KILLING IT!! At the moment with COVID, they are take out only. I would throw down money and bet this place is packed in the mornings and weekends under normal circumstances. They also do tamales year round!
