Introduction including Milwaukee Sports:…read more Final of 3 reviews representing 3rd quarter of 2021 in scrapbook series is Brat House. In September 2021, I went on a Chicago/Milwaukee vacation. I attended 3 baseball games: White Sox, Cubs, & Brewers (in chronological order) on 3 consecutive days with my friend who joined me for the vacation. Of the 3 baseball games I went to my conclusion is Go Brewers! My favorite basketball team, Phoenix Suns, where I'm from before living in the DC area the past 15 years, lost to Milwaukee Bucks in 2021 championship, which was disappointing. But I was happy for the Bucks as they seemed to be a nice team and was glad it wasn't Lakers, Knicks, or Spurs. Speaking of the Bucks, Milwaukee Brat House is right by where the Bucks play in what they call the Deer District. Experience: My friend was a bit crazy. He wanted to go to a baseball game a 4th consecutive night for a 2nd time in a row for Brewers. As great of time as I had, I wanted to see other things in Milwaukee. So, I drove around the around seeing various things. Then, I was trying to figure out what I wanted to eat for dinner and gravitated to the deer district area. I walked along Doctor MLK Jr Drive, a nice corridor with various bars & restaurants. I settled on Milwaukee Brat House. I ate outside as it was pretty busy, was hungry and just wanted to eat. I ended up getting a bratwurst and cheese curds. I think they had BOGO beer as I had 2 beers (as pictured). Brat was great, but I stopped eating pork not long after; so I'd probably get a standard hot dog. The #1 selling point for me was getting cheese curds. When in Rome in Wisconsin, I wanted more cheese curds. They were awesome! The beer was great too; I purposefully picked some local beer company. The server was nice & helpful too. Overall, a great choice.

It was a busy location, which is always a good sign, but the service kept things moving. The giant pretzel was excellent--crispy on the outside with just the right amount of salt and perfectly soft on the inside. The variety of dipping sauces made it even better. The cheese curds were also delicious and are a must-try if you're visiting Wisconsin. The bratwurst was very good and full of flavor. Overall, everything we ordered was enjoyable, and I'd definitely recommend stopping by Milwaukee Brat House if you're in the area.

This might be the food cart with the most aura I've ever seen…read more Rick and James have been operating on this street corner by the Chase Building since 1999 and provide not just excellent service, but also an astonishing variety of meats. I was just expecting the regular hot dogs ($4) and Polishes ($7.75), but then they show me around to the VIP section of the cart where they had Hungarian sausages, Cajun sausages, Linguisas (a Portuguese sausage I'd never even heard of that apparently goes back to Roman times), and many others. They also provide drinks and chips, and even as I was standing there they had a small crowd of return customers and loyal patrons. I decided on the Linguisa with some brown mustard, ketchup, and onions, wrapped up to go. $7.75--a little more expensive than other hot dog vendors in the city, but when I got back to the office I wish I had ordered 2. Good lord it was good.

I found the perfect place in 3rd Street Market Hall, just a block and a half from my conference hotel. I loved the food hall and had two lunches and one dinner there during my stay. There is plenty of seating. The people at Dawg City were incredibly nice and made me feel like family. Service was excellent. I opted for their Classic, which was a beautiful, meaty beef dog topped with mustard, ketchup, relish, and finely diced onions. It was outstanding! Every bite had the topping mixture. Yum! The fries deserve their own paragraph-crispy with a delicious seasoning blend, which I dunked in ketchup. Pure heaven! It takes a lot to impress me-i've eaten a lot of hotdog and fries in my time-but Dawg City would have to be one of my top best, for both the food and the experience!

**July 2025: Wednesday Lunch Visit**…read more While I was researching iconic food in Wisconsin I came across an item called Butter Burger which sounded so decadent and delicious. My friend and I were only exploring Milwaukee for a day so we wanted to make sure that we picked a good spot to try this region favorite. AJ Bombers came up consistently ranked on top for really great burgers. We came on a weekday so parking was pretty easy, but it is metered street parking. The restaurant is located at the corner of a large building and since we arrived right at opening we were seated right away. We ordered the following -Cheese Curds $9 - These were delicious. Nice and crispy, almost had an airfried texture to it so it tasted healthier than others that I've tried -Bomb Butter Burger $14 - The meat was very juicy and overall a good burger -Milwaukee Burger $12.50 - This was a fantastic burger and I think I preferred this to the Bomb Butter Burger. The flavors were more balanced IMHO -Tater Tots and Fries: The burgers all came with a side and I enjoyed both! They were freshly fried and served hot. The tots made me feel really nostalgic since those were things I remember eating growing up. The unfortunate news is that this restaurant despite all the accolades will be closing later in 2025. It's served Milwaukee for 16 years and while I'm bummed that they'll be closing their doors later this year I'm glad that I got enjoy one of Milwaukee's best. I haven't been in years, but it was sad to see that they don't give out peanut like they used to and they were not all over the floor. There was a singular waitress there but she was nice and checked in on us. I ordered the Milwaukee Burger. I loved the onions on it and added tomato to it. I thought the burger itself was ok. Not too much flavor, I wish it was a little more pink. It would've been better if the bun was more toasted as well. I ordered onion rings, fried pickles, and cheese curds. Cheese curds and onion rings were really good, but the frickles were huge and every time I would take a bite the pickle would come out of the batter and I would be stuck with the plain batter alone. Overall loved the ambiance and I was miss Aj Bombers and its history.

Friendly vegan spot (5/5 Green Stars) If you're visiting…read moreMilwaukee then a visit to E Brady St. is probably worth your while - a few interesting spots here, including Twisted Plants. I wanted to support my vegan brothers and sisters and, having being on the road (actually on Amtrak, so rails, really) for a while, I was craving some protein. Following the advice of the friendly staff members, I opted for an order of "Drummies" (Dazed & Confused) to maximize my protein intake. I ended up eating it in the restaurant and thought the vegan drumsticks were delicious with the two homemade sauces provided (ranch and chili). This dish is pricier than most of the others ($15, compared to a more reasonable $4 for fries or $10 for vegan mozzarella sticks) but memorable. The place could do with a few tweaks in terms of décor/atmosphere but the friendly staff helped make it a nice experience. I'm also rating the Twisted Plants 4.5 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on the following: * Everything on the menu - savory food and pastries - is vegan. * Most of the food packaging is compostable. * Staff members are happy to tell you what's in your food. The drummies that I ordered are from Lily's Vegan Pantry - made in Taiwan from soy and seasoning (no palm oil). * Cookies are from local vegan entrepreneur, Bunny's Bite. * It fills a useful niche of craveable vegan (elevated) fast food. Next time I want to try the Crispy Chik'n Salad (made with organic greens) as it's one of those dishes I never tried before I went veggie.
