After 4 years, I have given this place another try. The food has much improved. I opted for the vegetarian mushroom enchiladas with mole sauce and they were very tasty. I also got the smallest on the rocks margarita at 10.99. It still came with 2 orange slices, a full lime slice, cherry, paper pinata, blinking light, and two straws. The margarita was good if a little busy. The food arrived hot and quickly. The place itself is an entire festival ride. From the decor to the loud music to the cheesecake factory size of the drink menu. We saw at least 5 drinks come out with sparklers ablaze atop them, sang happy birthday twice with a chorus of waiters and a drum, and were constantly hearing the rising inebriation of other guests. Let me be clear: this was fine IF you know what you are getting into. This place is a sensory overload and if you aren't paying attention, I am sure you are 80 dollars deep into a fishbowl margarita topped with shrimp and a meat stick wondering where your pants have gone. You go here for a carnival, not a nice intimate dinner. Do not bring sensitive grandma, bring "rides a harley" grandma. read more

I visited the Cincinnati location on 6th Street for lunch today, and unfortunately, I don't see myself returning anytime soon. I told my server I didn't want a full lunch special--just a chicken quesadilla with a small amount of pineapple added. There was very little pineapple included. I also ordered a queso and an iced tea. While I wasn't surprised that the queso cost $5, being charged $4 for an iced tea felt excessive. I was also charged $18.99 for the quesadilla. The server took my credit card before I saw the check, and when it was returned for signature, I asked about the pricing. He explained that grilled chicken costs more and that I was charged extra for the pineapple, though there was no separate pineapple charge listed on the receipt. My lunch total came to $30. If these unlisted upcharges are standard practice, I don't plan on returning. read more

I went here for my 21wt birthday and it was a blast!! Of course my birthday always falls on a Bengals game day, but we were covered with plenty of TV's with whatever game the dads and moms wanted to watch. Their customer service was absolutely wonderful and the staff was so attentive and funny. Of course I had to get the biggest margarita I could drink by myself and it was so yummy. Food was delicious and most of my family had plenty of food to take home due to giant portions - good thing it reheats well! It's my 3rd time here in the last week or so. My experiences have been better each time. Today I'm with 3 kids and my adult daughter. I wish I could give this place zero stars. The staff was very friendly, no complaints there. The problem arises when you go to order a classic marg on the rocks and they bring out a carnival candy store in the biggest glass I have ever seen and charge you $20 for it. Lunch for 2 ended up being $100 with 2 meals and 2 margs. The margs weren't even speciality margs on the menu. The ambiance is loud, colorful, lively, and fun with wacky art installations and bright decor all around. The staff match the energy with their friendly service and VERY lively birthday celebrations. The food menu is overwhelmingly large, so go in with an open mind and some extra time to look through all the options. We got the grilled shrimp plate and the Texas dip, both of which were fresh and full of flavor. The drink menu also has over 30+ Vegas style crazy creative margarita variations. All in all, if you're looking for a good place to maybe embarrass a friend on their birthday or just unwind in a lively group setting, this place is a must try! The fact some of these reviews call this quality Mexican food is insane to me because it has no flavor. The drinks are what people go there for - they are big and over the top - some come in collector glasses - some have a whole candy store on them. I ordered a basic small pineapple margarita for $9.99 - it came out with a pineapple and candy straws. I asked for sugar on the rim - it had none. It tasted like pure tequila - Idk why they called it pineapple because I couldn't taste a hint of pineapple anywhere. My boyfriend got the cotton candy drink which is $22.99 for a fishbowl with cotton candy, a sucker and half of a candy counter on top with strawberry vodka and a strawberry margarita shaker on the side - not really sure what about that is really cotton candy besides the garnishes but he said it was good just expensive but it was strong! My boyfriend's sister got the $35.99 queens margarita which was served in a large bottle of patron with a travel bottle of 1800 as a garnish on top and more candy and fruit - it was a 3 layer frozen margarita - also strong. Even with the potency of the cocktails they could drop the price tag if they got rid of all the candy that isn't really needed on top as it doesn't add anything to the drink. I got french fries which were basic and tasted fine but didn't come out that hot. My friend got the birria tacos - they were good but not $20 for a plate of tacos with no sides good. I have no idea why this place has only 3 stars. People just be cranky and high strung. Everything about this place was amazing from the decor, to the service, to the food and drinks, and the prices. They are super friendly and quick and now they have even more locations than ever. You get so much for for the price and they have some huge and fancy drinks. Very authentic tasting food as well. I had tried 3 different tacos and all very flavorful. One thing I hate about some taco places is when they don't have enough sauces or juiciness from the meat. If your meats not good then you need to add in flavor through veggies and other things and these tacos are little flavor bombs. I want to come back for day drinking margaritas. The margaritas we ordered were huge and expensive but did not skimp on the alcohol. We had a party of 4 between 3 checks (my cousin and I billed together-and arrived shortly before closing). They were accommodating. It did turn me off a bit that our server took it upon herself to add gratuity of 18% which is stated to be included for parties of 6 or more. The atmosphere is incredible. The mariachi band plays for birthdays celebrated and the lucky birthday guest get a drink with some flare (as ordered by their friends) The only reason it was not 5 stars for me is they do not have a waitlist to be seated. It is first come first serve including the bar. They don't ask your party size you just wait in the doorway hoping people inside finish their dinner soon. Mi Cozumel is a go-to spot for me and my husband. We often bring family and friends here when they come to visit. They recently had a menu change and added some new, delicious items like flaming hot cheetos elote. It's so good that I now feel like I have to get it and the original elote! My husband and I really love the Texas Dip-- it is enough for a whole meal. I recently got an order of grilled shrimp and though the shrimp was done realllllllly well, I wouldn't order it again due to price. Mi Cozumel is known for their bright decor and MASSIVE drink menu with MASSIVE drinks. They have jumbo margs and drink towers. Each drink on their menu is a curated experience and usually has remarkable elements like rubber ducks, candy, shot bottles turned upside down, etc in them. The one rather large negative to a dining experience at Mi Cozumel is the birthday celebrations are the loudest I have ever heard. They use many instruments, including drums, and party favors to sing "happy birthday" to guests. It is really over-stimulating even for people who like a loud party vibe. However, because the other elements of the restaurant are great and it is always clean and service is on point, I will continue to be a loyal customer and recommend giving them a try. read more

Food is always good but make sure you ask for an itemized receipt. I always have to make sure to bc they love sneaking things on the bill. Today I came in with my family to treat my father to lunch. He loves their fajitas. On our way out my husband realized the bill was off because it was high so I told him to ask for the itemized amount so we can see what happened. And sure enough, the gratuity was already tacked on. 18% gratuity for a table of 3 and a baby. I'm happy we seen it because we were going to leave a $28 tip. To me it just seems unethical to assume we weren't going to leave a tip. I know when I was a server we wouldn't add on gratuity unless it was a table of 7 or more. We had drinks my cousin had Coco Loco margarita, I had the patron margarita with bottle in it and other cousin has Tito's Margarita with bottle in it. We would go back just for the drinks. My daughter, nephew and I went to Mi Cozumel in Finneytown for lunch. The front of the restaurant was clean and the inside was very festive. The music was lively, and even better, our server was very friendly. He answered our questions and stayed attentive the entire time. We all ordered the 3 taco dinner: Mine with all shrimp, my daughter's with pork, beef and chicken, and my nephew, who had 3 with chicken. When our food arrived, the aroma was fantastic. However, when I took my first bite...it was not very good. The food lacked flavor and was bland. I tried putting a bit of green salsa on it, but it made my food spicey hot. My nephew didn't like his food either and wanted me to try one of his tacos. The chicken was so tough and bland, had to put it down after two bites. I was unable to finish it, because it just wasn't good. I love the hospitality of the staff, the music and how clean the place is. Their opening in the old Applebee's spot has been long anticipated - since even before the pandemic. Unfortunately, their final unveiling has left much to be desired. At least initially, this place has been a hotbed of activity, which is not all that comforting considering the tacit risks you are taking dining in during a global pandemic. Mi Cozumel is not a beacon of cleanliness. For this reason, my experience has been limited to take out. The expectations walk in step with the price and Mi Cozumel is as expensive as some top tier restaurants you might find downtown. Meals for two including a drink each topped $100 and while nobody would complain about the quantity of food received, the price point is far greater than I would expect from a family-style Mexican joint. Additionally, I found the basic food quality to be average or substandard when compared to most other comparable Mexican restaurants in the area. My seafood burrito was a chore to eat; the soup was edible, but uninspired; the margarita was decent, but doing the math it must have cost about $15 or more. More simply, there just aren't many upsides to what is offered here. I'd be willing to try some other dishes and give them another shot, but with their prices, it likely won't be soon. read more

I live within walking distance to this location, and it's the only Mi Cozumel I've been to. I generally will not review a restaurant on a first visit unless it's amazingly good or amazingly bad. I would say I've been a handful of times. After reading through the 1 and 2 star reviews(where the real info resides), I see that they are not concerned about a positive experience that makes you want to come back. Like a few other reviews, they are rarely busy, and no matter what time/day you come the parking lot is mostly empty which is not a good sign. The menu is pretty much status quo for most Americanized Mexican food. It's a little on the pricey side, but most restaurants are post pandemic. All the female servers do not speak english and simply know the few words needed to take an order or cash you out. I will say the male servers are a little better and seem to be enthusiastic most of the time. They do rush your order and don't provide ample time to review the menu. Last time I had two waitresses ask for my order within 30 seconds. They have a festive party like atmosphere and pages upon pages of over the top drinks. They charge a lot for the drinks due to the novelty of how they are served ex: bath tubs. The food is standard for a Mexican rest. I've never been disappointed except my last visit. I order cheese dip and street corn. As soon as those items came out, my entrée was right behind within a minute. I suppose this could be partly on me for not specifying that I wanted apps first and hold off on the entrée for at least a few min. I guess I assumed too much. No biggie. If you are looking for a festive party place with huge drinks, this is the place for you. They do add gratuity when you reach $100 order. If you are looking for more of a family friendly place, this is not the one. read more

Came back for dinner service from my last review. We were seated right away and received chips and salsa quickly. The service was much better than our first visit. My wife ordered the chicken fajitas and I had the Macho burrito which was with chicken and steak. The owner was standing back when the person was raking our order so I don't know if she was new but she hesitated on answering my request but the manager shook his head with approval. We received our food faster than last time and it was still very good. Why I gave this a 4 star rating s because I didn't know who was waiting at our table because multiple people kept stopping by at first and at the end of our dinner but no one checked with us after our food came out. I was supposed to have jalapeños and it was never placed on my burrito. Also it took a while to get refills. At the end my wife's asked for a box and the waiter didn't bring one. The manager stopped by and we asked him and he brought one. The same waiter came back and we asked for the bill and it took awhile. What I did notice is that he was going to multiple tables and he probably forgot because he had too much going on at once. I do have to mention that when he came back for refills he asked the table behind us if they wanted refills which got us worried because what if he mixed up the cups. Luckily they didn't need any refills. I will come back and try something different next time but them being new, I am sure there will be some kinks in the service and I had to laugh at the plastic utensils. read more

I traveled 2 hours to check out this restaurant! I had read a news article talking about all the different margarita flavors and this place definitely held up to the hype. We got the margarita tower with 5 different flavors even though the waiter told us we could have as many as we wanted. We also each got our own speciality drink which was probably a bit much for the 4 of us but we wanted the whole experience. The drinks were all very good and very strong. The presentation was also 10/10. I did want a different type of drink that had a vodka vapor bubble. The waiter misunderstood and brought me something else. It turned out that the other drink I wanted the machine was down so I went ahead with the current drink. Overall a very pleasant experience. The food was good and very plentiful. During the entire meal our waiter wasn't't around much at all. Which is the reason for only 4 vs 5 stars. We had already planned to be there for several hours but if you were expecting a quick trip, this is not the restaurant. Thankfully we were very content with the drinks and all the food that we didn't have to worry about tracking down our waiter.
