Took a cruise recently and one of our stops was on the Island. We decided to stop here for a quick lunch after looking at the shops. When we first walked in, there was nobody at the front to help us. I finally saw a waiter in the back who noticed us, but did not help us. Finally someone came over to seat us. We asked for water and got bottled water. Can't remember the reasoning for it. Actually took over 15 minutes to get our "water bottles". A waitress came and asked us several times if we wanted to order something yet...even though we barely got a chance to look at the menu. After she came by a 3rd time, I felt obligated to order someone for now. So I got chips and salsa, which wasn't complimentary. usually they are at most places. We finally placed our order. I got a burrito and my boyfriend got some tacos. We both didn't enjoy our meals. Did not finish it or take it for leftovers. I really just had the chips and salsa. Was disappointed. Salsa was good. The bathroom was not very clean and smelled. I could not wait to get out of there. Also, looked like someone peed on the floor and the trash was overflowing. It was not to loud in there and they had music playing. I would love to go back to the Island, but we are not sure if we want to come back at this time.
I was at mi casita 2 days ago and I have to say that food it's a 5/10. lack of flavor and way to dry. Service it's good in the way that the staff it's very kind and attentive but our food came first than our drinks (cokes) Ambiance it's great. The place it's really cute.
Do not recommend at all. We ordered chicken taquitos and they brought us beef taquitos because they didn't have chicken but didn't ask us if it was okay. The beef quesadilla was way too heavy and the sour cream was chunky and when we asked why it looked curdled they said it's just got it comes? Huh?? The decor is super cute but if you look around the seats are torn and walking out of the bathroom we could see the server using his fingers to scoop the sour cream and guacamole on the plate. Their salsa is straight out of a jar of El Paso salsa, salsa should always be fresh at a Mexican restaurant when it's that easy to make.They don't even list the price of drinks on their brunch menu, way over priced! The drinks were the only good part of the meal.
Definitely one of the best asada I've ever had. The steak torta OMG is mind blowing, I'd definitely go back there to get me another bite of it. Nachos and tacos were good too, but no salsa?? Customer service was very attentive too. They'd come up and ask how was everything every few minutes.
This has to be my worse Yelp review ever. Rice was cold and looked and tasted like it was frozen and just left out to thaw out and be served . No flavor on rice . Enchiladas lacked sauce on top. Flavor and texture on enchiladas were 5/10. Only savory part of dish was the beans. Our server kept forgetting our drinks order and wasn't servicing our table unless it was to order more food. Please save your money and go eat somewhere else and make sure you Yelp it before going!!!!!!
I would like to preference a few things before I begin... 1- I love, Love, LOVE and eat Mexican food, A Lot, from a lot of different Mexican restaurants 2- I will order a Cadillac margarita even if it's not on the menu, because the ingredients are there 3- The waitress appeared to be running around. Now that I got that out of the way, let me give my honest review. My husband, son and I got off the boat and immediately knew we wanted food, our staple, Mexican food. So of course, the first place we see is this restaurant. We go in and ask the guy at the front desk if they have a kids menu, he hands us one without any other questions and continues about his business. After several minutes later, he comes back to see us. When we get to our booth, I flipped the menu over and tell my husband to order me a Cadillac margarita while I go wash my toddlers hands. There is a line and two stalls, so from the time I get to the line and back to the table at least 10 minutes passed. So I'm assuming my drink is already at the table. But once I get to the table, no drinks, no water, no chips and my husband tell me no one has even approached him to order. We sat there for so long but I started looking up another Mexican restaurant on the island we can go to, but just before I was about to make a suggestion, our waitress comes up to us. Honestly I don't remember her name but I'm not sure she gave it to us. We sat there for so long we already knew exactly what we wanted, so of course we ordered everything. The waitress brought us chips and salsa, bottled waters and then our drinks and food. Honestly it didn't take that long. We ordered two margaritas, a sampler with Taquitos, calamari, cheese quesadillas and chicken wings (a strange combination) and a side of rice for the baby. Our drinks were watered down and I can't tell you what type of tequila they used on my Cadillac, it tasted like chemicals. They was barely any calamari on the plate and the babies rice was from dry. Hell the best this about the food was the warm tortilla chips. Just look at the photos. What I know as someone who frequently dines out, restaurants owners do not, DO NOT, need to skim down their staff or quality of food, due to rising cost. I know prices are increasing and higher wages are being forced, but I can guarantee it's worth it, not only will you get quality workers, you'll get dedicated customers. We already planning out next few summer trips to the island and I hate to say it, but this won't be our stop.
1. Food- all three of our dishes were pretty good. I liked the white beans, chili verde was good as well. The margaritas were just ok. Funny flavor not my thing. They are big probably need more alcohol in the drink. 2. Service was quick ( restaurant was empty at the time we went). Waitress was very friendly 3. Ambiance- well it's a Mexican restaurant haha. Overall the food was good but the price point was over board for Mexican food. Three plates , three drinks 160.00 including tip. Too much for Mexican food
Mi Casita was actually a pretty legit Mexican spot here in Avalon, with a good Chorizo con Huevos burrito that hit the spot. Pepsi instead of Coke prolly' would work in Mexico, but otherwise, this place gets my authentic thumbs up
We came in for breakfast cause the Pancake Cottage was long wait. We usually go to Coyote Joe's for Mexican in town. I was very surprised at the good service and yummy Mexican breakfast of this place! We had vegetarian omelette and two orders of carne asada and eggs. The breakfast potatoes on my plate had chorizos in it cause our server didn't know that I don't eat meat. He offered to bring me some Mexican rice which was nice. The veggie omelette was so flavorful and yummy, steak and eggs were so good as well. The service was very friendly and attentive the entire time. We will be back for some more yummy Mexican soon!
Little cosy restaurant the food was ok but the service was pretty good they have a full bar and a tv so you could watch the games wile eating or just have some drinks
Came here after one of my Catalina tours around 3pm on a Friday. Restaurants are typically very busy around 5-7pm. It was rather busy for an afternoon and it took awhile to get service but the food still came out pretty quick once we ordered. I saw the mediocre reviews about this place and this is my conclusion: If you get non traditional Mexican food you might be disappointed. But if you get any of their traditional plates, soups and stews and especially the margaritas, you will be AMAZED! I had the pozole and Chile rilleno plate (and yes I finished both) my husband had the mojarra fish plate. The portions are only slightly smaller than on the mainland but I was still full and happy regardless. This is one of the few places where a margarita doesn't taste too liquor-y and just plain tasty (still got buzzed though, don't get it twisted haha). Try it out!
HUGE margaritas and average Mexican food. Someone approached me to ask what I got so I guess the carne asada is the move? It was good though - just not the best Mexican I've had and there are definitely better restaurants on the island
Wife and I had pleasant time. She ordered a quesadilla--why, I am not sure since she is from Tamazula de Gordiano, and I had the shrimp and chips. The shrimps were good, but my wife said the quesadilla was awesome...weird since she generally does not like them. I had a Bloody Mary...4/5. BUT I am asking a Mexican restaurant to make a non-Mexican drink. Overall, a good experience. The ambiance was awesome. They have two stories...nice big windows that let sunlight and breeze in. Service was a little slow at the beginning, but got better. Check it out when in Catalina!

We landed in Avalon and were super hungry, this restaurant is just around the corner and can be found easily. The ambiance is super cute and the decor as well. They have yummy cocktails and would highly recommend the pina colada. We ordered guacamole, burritos and fajitas, the food was fresh, made to order and tasted excellent. We really enjoyed the service and the warm corn tortillas. The rice had a nice flavor too. Overall loved this restaurant and the views too! read more

My first stop upon arriving on Santa Catalina Island was this Mi Casita. I ordered a pineapple margarita, pina colada, and chicken fajitas. Everything tasted fresh and the service was prompt, but be aware that the prices are on the higher side, which seems to be the norm on the island. Overall, a delicious and satisfying meal. read more

Always up for Mexican food and heard good things about Mi Casita.We were sat immediately on a busy Saturday afternoon. The service was decent and our food arrived fast. I ordered their carne asada plate and it wasn't bad.Good flavor and modest portions. My fiancé ordered their shredded beef burrito. She had no complaints. The prices are on the higher end. We did love their panela cheese appetizer. Super delicious. Also enjoyed their michelada mix. Overall a good experience. read more

Burn it to the ground. I mean it. Worst food and service ana and ever. Filthy dirty. They allow dogs to lick food crumbs off the floor. Our order was all mixed up. They for got our drinks. Food was very cold. It was right out of the refrigerator on a worm plate. One thing they didn't forget to add a 20% tip on a party of seven. That's probably the only way they can get their tips. Very lucky I didn't get food poisoning. They should get zero stars. read more

Basic Mexican restaurant in Avalon. $5 for chips and salsa. $14 for guacamole which you basically have to make yourself. Also the person for the guacamole was terrible for the price. I don't recommend. The salsa was delicious though. They got my order wrong as I asked for no beans since I'm not big on them. They gave me beans, but when I told them they brought out extra rice. But still, some of my dish tasted like beans. Anyway, the food was as you would expect. It was decent. Enchiladas were ok. You have to pay extra for lettuce and sour cream on top. Basically, they charge you for every little thing that should come with the dish already. read more

We were in a hurry to go catch a boat and we stopped in here The food was good the service was a little slow. My granddaughter found a hair in her food. But it wasn't a long hair it was like it fell off the mustache. Either way I would give this place another chance. Drinks were good atmosphere was nice. Only 3 stars because of the hair and the service was a little slow and we were the first ones in there. read more

I really thought we were in for a great meal here.(I was wrong) instead of making frying the shrimp the way your supposed too( they steamed it instead with small portions and after asking for a glass of water- instead they sell you bottled water-WTF! We're already spending a lot here. How petty can you get?(p.s.the carrots were not fully cooked!! Us 4 will not return here. read more

I am trying to save your money, please do not come here for breakfast. You will probably only come here because there's no wait time but theres a reason for that. As a Mexican, this is by far the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Mom got an overcooked omelette, dad got the world's smallest and saddest piece of steak with the coldest hash browns, sister got a burrito with absolutely no flavor, and I got a chorizo burrito that tasted only like bell pepper. I only ate half my burrito because I was hungry but I wish I didn't. The picture will show you a nasty chunk of chorizo. On the positive side: waitress was friendly. 04/13/24 9:30am read more
Mi Casita, translates to "my little home." The ambience of this establishment truly does give you the illusion hat you are walking into a Spanish ranch style household that is welcoming and exciting. The prices are a little bit the expensive side for Mexican food, but expected since this establishment is in the middle of downtown Catalina Island. I'm giving this restaurant a three star because though the rice and beans were good, but the bloody Mary I ordered tasted like one day old cocktail mix in bloody hell. Really good food, decent portions for the price and relatively speaking to other places on the island. I personally found the service to be quite slow and it took a long time for orders to be taken but the food came out fast. Something to note is they don't have water for free and only has bottled. Still, food was nice, just keep in mind wait time and lack of water read more
My husband and I stayed practically beside the rest. The last day, we went for a brunch. The restaurant is really beautiful, the service is friendly, but the food nothing special, pretty good like small restaurants in San Fernando Valley. They charge the water, bringing a bottle. If you want a Mexican brunch, it is the only choice. I recommend to try for lunch or dinner, maybe the plates are better. read more

Not the worst food I've ever had, but far from the best. This time on the island we were searching for some new favorites because Mr. Ning's is gone, as well as the Pic Nic Fry. I love mexican food, so we figured we'd give it a try. Really mediocre food, not terrible, but just plain. Their signature drink was good, the "Cozuela", but that wasn't enough to make the meal something that we'd eat again. On a bright note, the service was good and the waitress was friendly, but the rice, beans and basically everything on the plate was under-seasoned and bland. read more
