Had lunch there and we were underwhelmed for sure. Chips & salsa are not fresh and cost $5. I'd rather buy a $5 bag of Tostitos they would have tasted better. I had the Ranchero Enchilada which is cheese enchiladas covered with oretga chilies, chile rellano sauce and a big dollop of sour cream. It was mostly chilis, not much cheese and the side of refried beans were mediocre at best. My husband had the Casita tacos, and he wasn't impressed either. I ordered a Cadillac Margarita in the rocks, no salt. It was delivered with tons of salt, so much so that my first sip was straight salt from the bottom of the glass. It was warm and way too sweet for a Cadillac. I couldn't drink it. We landed in Avalon and were super hungry, this restaurant is just around the corner and can be found easily. The ambiance is super cute and the decor as well. They have yummy cocktails and would highly recommend the pina colada. We ordered guacamole, burritos and fajitas, the food was fresh, made to order and tasted excellent. Took a cruise recently and one of our stops was on the Island. We decided to stop here for a quick lunch after looking at the shops. When we first walked in, there was nobody at the front to help us. I finally saw a waiter in the back who noticed us, but did not help us. Finally someone came over to seat us. We asked for water and got bottled water. Can't remember the reasoning for it. Actually took over 15 minutes to get our "water bottles". A waitress came and asked us several times if we wanted to order something yet...even though we barely got a chance to look at the menu. After she came by a 3rd time, I felt obligated to order someone for now. So I got chips and salsa, which wasn't complimentary. usually they are at most places. We finally placed our order. I got a burrito and my boyfriend got some tacos. We both didn't enjoy our meals. Did not finish it or take it for leftovers. I really just had the chips and salsa. Was disappointed. Salsa was good. The bathroom was not very clean and smelled. I could not wait to get out of there. Also, looked like someone peed on the floor and the trash was overflowing. Do not recommend at all. We ordered chicken taquitos and they brought us beef taquitos because they didn't have chicken but didn't ask us if it was okay. The beef quesadilla was way too heavy and the sour cream was chunky and when we asked why it looked curdled they said it's just got it comes? Huh?? The decor is super cute but if you look around the seats are torn and walking out of the bathroom we could see the server using his fingers to scoop the sour cream and guacamole on the plate. Their salsa is straight out of a jar of El Paso salsa, salsa should always be fresh at a Mexican restaurant when it's that easy to make.They don't even list the price of drinks on their brunch menu, way over priced! I would like to preference a few things before I begin... 1- I love, Love, LOVE and eat Mexican food, A Lot, from a lot of different Mexican restaurants 2- I will order a Cadillac margarita even if it's not on the menu, because the ingredients are there 3- The waitress appeared to be running around. Now that I got that out of the way, let me give my honest review. My husband, son and I got off the boat and immediately knew we wanted food, our staple, Mexican food. So of course, the first place we see is this restaurant. We go in and ask the guy at the front desk if they have a kids menu, he hands us one without any other questions and continues about his business. After several minutes later, he comes back to see us. When we get to our booth, I flipped the menu over and tell my husband to order me a Cadillac margarita while I go wash my toddlers hands. There is a line and two stalls, so from the time I get to the line and back to the table at least 10 minutes passed. So I'm assuming my drink is already at the table. But once I get to the table, no drinks, no water, no chips and my husband tell me no one has even approached him to order. We sat there for so long but I started looking up another Mexican restaurant on the island we can go to, but just before I was about to make a suggestion, our waitress comes up to us. Honestly I don't remember her name but I'm not sure she gave it to us. We sat there for so long we already knew exactly what we wanted, so of course we ordered everything. The waitress brought us chips and salsa, bottled waters and then our drinks and food. Honestly it didn't take that long. We ordered two margaritas, a sampler with Taquitos, calamari, cheese quesadillas and chicken wings (a strange combination) and a side of rice for the baby. Our drinks were watered down and I can't tell you what type of tequila they used on my Cadillac, it tasted like chemicals. They was barely any calamari on the plate and the babies rice was from dry. Hell the best this about the food was the warm tortilla chips. Just look at the photos. What I know as someone who frequently dines out, restaurants owners do not, DO NOT, need to skim down their staff or quality of food, due to rising cost. I know prices are increasing and higher wages are being forced, but I can guarantee it's worth it, not only will you get quality workers, you'll get dedicated customers. We already planning out next few summer trips to the island and I hate to say it, but this won't be our stop. read more

Went to Mi Casita with my family today. It was busy and the vibe was noisy/chaotic. The service was somewhat inattentive but the server was pleasant when we interacted. The chips and salsa were good but cost $6. We had three burritos and one person a plate of enchiladas. Everything was fine, not good and not bad. It was passable. We came in for breakfast cause the Pancake Cottage was long wait. We usually go to Coyote Joe's for Mexican in town. I was very surprised at the good service and yummy Mexican breakfast of this place! We had vegetarian omelette and two orders of carne asada and eggs. The breakfast potatoes on my plate had chorizos in it cause our server didn't know that I don't eat meat. He offered to bring me some Mexican rice which was nice. The veggie omelette was so flavorful and yummy, steak and eggs were so good as well. The service was very friendly and attentive the entire time. Came here after one of my Catalina tours around 3pm on a Friday. Restaurants are typically very busy around 5-7pm. It was rather busy for an afternoon and it took awhile to get service but the food still came out pretty quick once we ordered. I saw the mediocre reviews about this place and this is my conclusion: If you get non traditional Mexican food you might be disappointed. But if you get any of their traditional plates, soups and stews and especially the margaritas, you will be AMAZED! I had the pozole and Chile rilleno plate (and yes I finished both) my husband had the mojarra fish plate. The portions are only slightly smaller than on the mainland but I was still full and happy regardless. This is one of the few places where a margarita doesn't taste too liquor-y and just plain tasty (still got buzzed though, don't get it twisted haha). Try it out! read more

We've been here twice, the first time service was horrible and food was overall bland. We went again this trip (not sure why) and the service was much better but the refried beans were so salty that the kids wouldn't eat their burritos and I left my beans on my plate. My chile rellenos were good although different than I'm used to. The draft beer we ordered had an odd smell, like glasses weren't cleaned well or something. Stopped by to have lunch here while exploring the island. The restaurant is very loud, making it hard to have a conversation. We were a party of 5 and all were dissatisfied with our meals. Chips and salsa is not included, and you must pay for them. We ordered guacamole at $14 and it stated 4 scoops. Well it was 4 cookie dough sized scoops. The kitchen messed up a couple of orders. Niece asked for beans no rice, and she got a plate full of rice. I asked for no beans on my burrito, and it was all beans. Had to send it back, after having to ask for our waiter several times, a waitress was annoyed and took it back. I received a subsequent burrito full of cheese, very little chile verde, and a spoon full of rice. All the food was not very good for being a California restaurant. I was saying up the road, about a 1 minute walk, and was recommended this eatery to try after I completed the Avalon 50-miler. Apparently, there are other "Latin" eateries I could have tried, but the recommendation was mostly for the margaritas the food. Service: Fast and barely any wait Food: Meh, nothing to scream back to my family in Mexico about let alone when compared to how I cook. I am trying to save your money, please do not come here for breakfast. You will probably only come here because there's no wait time but theres a reason for that. As a Mexican, this is by far the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Mom got an overcooked omelette, dad got the world's smallest and saddest piece of steak with the coldest hash browns, sister got a burrito with absolutely no flavor, and I got a chorizo burrito that tasted only like bell pepper. After reading the reviews for this restaurant we were a little reluctant to eat here but we rolled the dice once we were greeted by Oscar inside. He did an amazing job explaining things and understanding what we wanted to order. We went light with the sampler platter and an extra order of chicken wings cooked extra crispy. Everything was wonderful!! We didn't try a full meal so I can't comment on the rice and beans but the items on the sampler platter were great! We had quesadillas, taquitos, chicken wings, and calamari on that platter. The salsa was great, we had both the mild and the spicy, and the chips were crunchy and warm. I was really hungry when arriving to catalina, but the burger here was just not to my liking. My mother had gotten the camarones al mojo de ajo and she expressed how the beans tased canned, and how the rice was wet, tasted like water she said.
