Jeff was my barber. The haircut ended up fine, but he seemed a little timid and parts of his technique had me question whether he was a new barber. READ IF GOING DURING COVID: They don't use actual aprons like most barber shops use. They will use what looks like saran wrap, and doesn't even go to your knees, so hair gets all over you. Jeff used a brush half the time to brush hair away from my head as he cut, and the other times he would use his fingers/hands. First weird sign to me. Second, hot hair blower to blow the hair away. The last two barber shops I've went to they used cold hair blowers. Third, is when I was done, there was more hair on me than there was on the ground. The haircut was fine, barber did his job, but the efficiency was a little spotty. read more

If it was possible to give a 0 star to this place I would have. Worst barber and worst haircut I have ever gotten. Despite pointing out the clear issue with the haircut, the woman who cut my hair yelled and denied and hit my head! Terrible service. A guy tried to fix it and was clearly incompetent. Despite the uneven haircut and the bald circle in the side of my head all I got was "I'm gonna have to charge you anyway." Beware of this place. Avoid it like the plague. DO NOT RECOMMEND, Awful job and bad service by the salon and the barber named Joe.The haircut was very uneven and beard wasn't shaved/cut properly for which by the way I was charged. When I called to politely let them know, Instead of a simple apology for a crappy job done and telling me that they will be willing to fix it; all I got from him (not to mention the attitude) was he doesn't know what I'm talking about and that he didn't charge us for the beard and only charged for the cut. Well first off, no one told u not to charge for the beard secondly I rather them charge me double the price and do a good job. And by the way this is a service we get done every 2-3 weeks at another salon and not only they charge the same price as them but our usual salon does a great job, but we wanted to give this place a shot since it's closer to our home. MGM is a family own barber shop that has been trimming hair in Sterling for two generations. I have been a customer for most of them. The barbers are friendly and the prices reasonable. I moved to Ashburn 8 years ago and drive by a dozen other shops to have my monthly trim at MGM. read more

This barber was very friendly, he kept a conversation with me the entire time and cut my hair exactly how I wanted. He restored my faith in good barbers and let me know to bring my friends. I took my brother in and he also was very satisfied. To be blunt, the owner is a great barber. read more

Always a good look here. Coming from a man that used to cut his own hair, well worth getting a cut here. Carl, owner, really comes through w/ the skills and as does his staff. They've been around for a while and you know that has something to be said for itself. MGM is a pillar in the community. Been in Sterling for over 30 years. Carl's father used to trim my hair when I was a kid when I'd tag alone with my Dad. To this day my Dad, brother and now my husband go to Carl every other week. If I had a son I wouldn't trust anyone else to cut his hair. read more

I'm no hair expert, I can't tell you what I want but I know if I like what I get. I've been going here for about 2-3 years I believe, mostly going in and telling Carl I want it short but not sure how. I just tell him to take it away and make me look good. I've never left unhappy. Carl and his crew are extremely nice and easy to talk to. I never feel uncomfortable while getting my haircut. They're all great at cutting my hair. I always go to Carl but when he's not around or busy, one of his employees does the job just as well. They don't take credit cards which I can't say is an issue since there's an ATM right outside so I always can grab a 20 and get a fresh cut. I'm 35 years old and have been going to MGM since I was child. Even when I was off to college, I'd get a haircut from them whenever I was in town. They're all good people and have been doing a great job for a long time, so I don't mind making the extra effort to get to them for my haircuts (sometimes it takes me 45 min just to get there in traffic, but it's worth it for me.) read more

Carl and Joe are great barbers. I have gotten my hair cut here for over 30 years. The three barbers are fluent in english. They can carry on a converstation with their clients in english. They have TV's that are tuned into something other than CNN with subtitles. A great selection of magazines and did I mention they speak english? My son still goes there before and after the long hair stage of life. The guys really do a good job and you will enjoy the ambience of a family run barber shop. They open at 0930 and in some cases earlier, just give a call to see if Carl is in early. Well worth the route 7 hassle to get there. read more
