It was my first time at Royal Barber Shop. Walk-in welcomes: I walked in and hair dressers greeted me nicely with a big smile. The vibe is chill and relaxing. The quality is decent. Service requested was a haircut. Hot towel included was nice. It would be nicer and better for a haircut is shampoo after cut and retouch any hair out of line. Amy cut my hair. Amy took the time thoroughly to cut my hair. My head shape is tricky and Amy did quite a great job with the haircut. I will give Sara a try to see how it goes! read more

Do Not Go Here I walked in with a clear style request, explained exactly what I wanted, and even showed a reference photo and video. Instead of listening, she kept nodding and repeating "yes sir, yes sir" as if she understood--only to completely ignore everything I said. The blending was way too high, the transitions were sloppy, and she was moving so fast that it felt like she just wanted to get it over with rather than make sure it looked right. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere else. You're paying for a service, and at the very least, a barber should listen to their client. This place clearly doesn't care. read more

I got a really uneven and poorly cut haircut for $22. I guess I get what I pay for. It's probably the worst haircut I've had in 20 years. Hair is still all around my ears and the hair on the sides of my head are all uneven. This is a disaster. I'll probably shave my head when I get home. read more

I know of loyal customers living in Ashburn and also of those living outside of Ashburn who are only happy to make the trip out just to enjoy the complimentary hot towel service/shoulder massage that accompanies their handsome haircut. Got a special request? The barbers are so attentive and accommodating! My sister's coworker is especially sensitive on one part of his head and requires careful attention there. The head barber/owner always remembers without him needing to remind her and takes care to cut his hair perfectly. They are all about awesome customer service here. Prices are totally reasonable (under $15) and if you happen to schedule an appointment or walk-in while one of their specials is going on, then you'll get an even better deal. Best way to find out about specials is by looking for flyers posted inside the shop or by following them on their Royal Barber Shop Facebook page -- probably the most convenient way! There's actually a summer special going on right now... $12 haircut for men during the weekdays from morning to mid-afternoon. Lunchtime trim, anyone? Haha. That's the other thing, if you're a walk-ins type of person, your best bet is to walk-in during the week. Weekends are busier, but it's not impossible to get a chair. If you go here once, you're likely to become a regular before you know it! I'm always sending all the men in my life here. Overall this place is good & I love Sarah. I've been going here for over 3 months. All the stylists generally do great, however, Annie and Mina are awful. I've had both of them once and each time I asked for a medium skin fade with longer hair on top. (Nothing too difficult to ask) Today I ended up with a haircut looking like a mushroom cloud- poofy and unevenly long on top and sides that were super short at a #1 guard. I told Annie that this was not what I wanted at all and tried to show her how I wanted it all evened out... After this I end up with something even worse:( A really high uneven skin fade that was way above my ears. And on top I looked like beaker from the muppets. My brother first referred me to this barber shop. Although it was out of the way I was willing to give it a try. I now go here for haircuts for me and my son even though we have closer barber shops to our house. They are extremely friendly and a very nice atmosphere. My son also enjoys the play area. The biggest selling point for me was that unlike most barbershops where they have 1 or 2 good people, all of the barbers I have had here are excellent and consistent. Although some are faster than others, they all get the haircut done the right way and it doesn't feel like a gamble no matter who cuts my hair at this shop. read more

Absolutely my favorite place to get a haircut in the area. Actually we drive out here from Reston! I have had my hair cut by three different ladies; as they work different hours and days. That said, I am not sure how the staff arranges their workweek; as the "days off" sign does not seem to match the person working in the station. First time I came in on Tuesday and got a great cut. Fast forward 5 weeks and ready to come back. Came back on Tuesday, as the sign in her station said she was off on Wed. No one working her station, but the lady in a station marked as being "off on Tuesday" gave me a cut. Either was the cut was good, but first and third time were the best. I guess I should ask for a name at some point, so I know whom to request, but these ladies don't talk much (actually not at all during cut). The price is fair for the time and quality, so I tend to overtip for the service. I will miss this place when I head back home to IL after my project in the area is complete. read more

I took my 5 year old twins this shop. I was nervous as my kids are not receptive to many strangers and don't particularly enjoy haircuts. We were immediately greeted with smiles and kindness. Best kept secret in Ashburn. 13 dollars for a haircut, hot lather shave, and eucalyptus hot towel service. I've had about 5 different people cut my hair there and they have all done a terrific job. Probably had about 20 haircuts here and I've only had to wait for a seat for longer than 10 minutes two times that I can remember. Pretty decent. I'm not sure about all the 5-star reviews, but I also don't understand the 2 star reviews either. I mean, this isn't an upscale place; it's a $14 haircut. I feel pretty good about the haircut I got: the lady that cut my hair was nice, the price was reasonable ($14), she appears to have done a good job, etc. There is definitely a communication barrier, but I've found that to be the case at three recent barbershops I've gone to in the Ashburn area. The place was clean, the people were nice. I don't really understand the hot towel thing that many barbershops are doing now, but it's an interesting touch and they do it well. Summary: It's a nice place, but don't expect something stunning. This place is not trying to be Roosters or the Old Towne Man Cave, so don't expect some upscale experience.
