Solid and cheap taco place in the South Bay! I had a friend in town who loves Mexican food and found this gem through social media. Parking was super easy in the lot. I ordered the 3 Street Tacos with Grilled Chicken, Carne Asada, and Carnitas for $10. Super cheap, and all were standard good. They also come with complimentary chips and salsa. Service was fast and efficient. Great quick spot.

Ordered a carne asada burrito from here. Arrived very quick, very fresh. Was on the cheaper side for the quality. I've definitely had better in LA, but quite good for the area.

First time here and I'll definitely be back for taco Thursday! Cheap and delicious! The tacos were fresh and delicious. The chipotle sauce on the fish and shrimp is spicy but good. The Al pastor was delicious! Some places taco Tuesday have wimpy tacos but definitely not this place! Tortillas were packed. Service was so friendly and attentive. Inside is super cute too.

It was my first time here. Loved the interesting decor. I heard it was remodeled a few years ago. I ordered an Al Pastor Street Taco and a Baja Fish taco. Both delicious along with a Lime Margarita. Service was really friendly. Parking in the mini strip mall lot.

On Tuesday I got to try the chilaquiles here and they were by far the best I have ever had. The sauce was so flavorful, the tortilla chips fried to perfection, and the beans a great addition. As usual the staff always treats you like family. It's the perfect place to have any meal.

We checked out this spot for their Taco Tuesday night, and overall, it was a pretty good family outing. They had a Taco Tuesday menu with $2.50 street tacos and $4 house margaritas, which was a nice deal. The place busy but we didn't have to wait for a table. We did wait about 15 minutes just to get menus, and it was definitely hot inside, like the AC wasn't quite doing its job. The waitress, though, was super friendly once she got to us, and we appreciated her warmth. The asada fries were decent, and my carne asada wet burrito was pretty good. The chicken taco salad my husband had was probably the best of the night, the tostada was crispy and soft, and the chicken was flavorful and perfectly cooked. My son's pork tamale was ok, a bit hit-or-miss in the pork flavor but the masa texture was so so good, the carne asada taco from the special was just okay. We did have a little incident where a drink slipped out of the waitress hand, it ended up on my daughter, so she was pretty wet, the waitress was really sweet and apologetic, and these things happen. The biggest downside for me was that they had no kids' menu, which is a big letdown for a family-friendly place. On the plus side, they did offer unlimited chips and salsa, and the salsa had this spicy almost pizza-like taste, which was kind of fun. Overall nice place with cute decor and vibe.

Solid and friendly neighborhood Mexican spot. Tamales were good, ditto on chips and salsa. Kids loved the freshly made churros. The wait staff were very friendly and remembered the kids names too! Highly recommend for an easy and delicious meal.

This Mexican place became my most favorite Mexican restaurant so far! The place is small and really cute with authentic decors, even the sink in the restroom is cute!! So far I've tried their tacos, chile relleno, enchiladas, taquitos and tamales. Tacos are ok, not very significant flavors or anything. However, other stuffs are really tasty, especially rice and beans. This is my opinion but if the Mexican restaurant serves you good rice and beans, then their food gotta be great. Jamaica is really fresh, little too sweet for me but it's easy to drink and taste good. Their complementary chips&salsa are really good, also the hot sauce that they give you I believe it's homemade is really tasty. I'm so happy I found this place! Only thing tho, they have taco Tuesday deals, so if you are like me, not fan of waiting for long time then avoid Tuesdays!

I found this spot a few years ago and totally forgot about it until I was reminded by my search for Mexican food and am glad I got reacquainted :) the restaurant itself is a bit hidden behind a gas station in a decent size plaza with ample amount of parking. There were plenty of tables available when I came around 5:30pm but after 6:00pm on a Tuesday it got packed and a line started to form. We ordered carne asada, al pastor, and fish tacos from the taco Tuesday menu and also a special vegetarian burrito. The taco Tuesday tacos: carne asada was soft and juicy, the al pastor was exploding with flavor, and unfortunately I let the fish taco sit for too long and it got soggy so I definitely recommend eating that first. It was still good and a bit on the spicy side. The only thing is the tacos are super tiny so you maybe want to eat a lot more ;) the veggie burrito with extra guacamole and Chile ranchero combined. It was really good and tasted authentic. The meal also include side of salsa and chips. Overall: I'm glad this place popped up and I got to revisit. Owner is incredibly friendly and helpful. We will be back again soon :)

    Inside Decor

Mezontle sits in an unassuming plaza with 7-Eleven and a gold jewelry store. But their inside decor is very unique and authentic to the cuisine. It certainly adds a nice touch to the experience. The service was great and the food was pretty good. We ordered their California burrito and the Carne Asada burrito and both were pretty good. One downside to their burrito is they don't evenly distribute the filling and your bites into the burrito can vary in meat, rice, beans, etc. And I wish they would wrap their burritos a little tighter. The overall taste is great though. Mezontle also offers free chips and salsa, which is a nice touch. There's plenty of parking in this plaza so there's no headache.

The bumpy areas are melted styrofoam. It went into our soup which my baby and 6 year old ate.
    Jocelyn P.

I brought home 2 caldo de pollo (chicken soup) and fed it to my kids. I discovered after we ate that the styrofoam cups the soups were in had melted into the soup. I called the restaurant to ask them to change the containers they are using for the soup in the future as it's clearly not suitable for hot food, but the person who answered the phone just asked me if I needed a new styrofoam cup. I was very alarmed that they weren't worried that we had just ingested melted styrofoam because of their packaging. Understand that your clientele here would pay a few extra bucks for containers that don't melt with hot food but would not go back to a restaurant where they made you eat styrofoam melted into your food.

Hard tacos with house salsa (shredded beef)
    Melinda B.

I was very impressed with my meal here. The server was very nice and attentive. The chips and salsa were fresh with very good flavor. I ordered two hard tacos with shredded beef. I loved the taco shell. It was sturdy and didn't fall apart after bites. I really liked the shape. It fit perfectly in my hand and was easy to eat. I think I remember wishing there was some other aspect to the tacos, like salsa or creamy sauce, or like a guacamole salsa because they were a little bit dry. I used the table salsa to pour on top, which was delicious, however for $5 a taco I wished there was another salsa included. I also tried their horchata iced coffee and that was delicious. I would return.

I really wanted to love this place. I read all the glowing…read morereviews and convinced myself the negative ones were probably just misunderstandings... but wow, I had it completely backwards. First, the restaurant itself is undeniably cute and cozy, tucked away in a corner of Hermosa Beach. Our first impression was honestly great, and we were excited to try it. Our reservation was at 5:00 PM, but when we arrived, the staff was still inside having what looked like a team huddle or group therapy session well past opening time. At first I thought maybe I got the hours wrong and they actually opened at 5:30. Nope -- 5:00 was correct. I understand pre-shift meetings happen. But maybe do the motivational speech at 4:50 instead of making customers stand outside after your posted opening time? They finally opened the doors around 5:10. Once seated, our server introduced himself by saying he was also one of the chefs, and apparently everyone dressed in white both cooks and serves. I didn't really understand the concept, but honestly, I don't care who brings the food as long as the food is good. These are what we ordered: SQUID -- This tasted like it had been marinated directly in seawater. Painfully salty. I genuinely did not understand the dish at all. Boiled squid with egg salad? Why? The portion was tiny, and we were hungry, so we basically used the mussels tart to dilute the salt enough to finish it. MUSSELS TART -- Actually delicious. No complaints here. BISTRO SALAD -- This was honestly shocking. It was SO sour that it was practically inedible. -- we literally take straight lemon shots every morning but this dish was hard to eat. This wasn't "bright acidity." This was weaponized vinegar. Bitter, aggressively sour, and tongue-numbing after one bite. We had to send it back because it was simply not edible. CABBAGE -- Flavor was good overall, but parts of it were so burnt that I genuinely questioned whether it was intentional or someone forgot it existed in the kitchen. Maybe it's culinary art I'm too uncultured to understand. FISH DIANE -- Delicious. No complaints at all. What ultimately made us decide we won't return wasn't even the inconsistent food -- it was the attitude. They still charged us for the salad we literally could not eat after sending it back. Then the couple next to us asked to keep one menu because they planned to order more later. One of the servers told them not to leave it on the table because she didn't want the menu to get dirty. The menu was a single flimsy printed paper menu. Not leather-bound. Not handmade parchment from the 1700s. Just printer paper. The whole experience felt oddly pretentious for a place serving burnt cabbage and acid salad. Some dishes were genuinely good, but the hospitality felt nonexistent and the food was wildly inconsistent. Cute restaurant, but definitely not somewhere we'd return to.
