Went here over the weekend with some college friends who were in town. Some of us had glasses of wine and some of us did the wine tasting. The selection was very nice and we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. They also have charcuterie plates for purchase which rounded out the experience nicely. Husband & I wanted to do wine tasting for Valentine's Day yesterday & found this place on Yelp as we were in the area. Glad we dropped by bc they had old world wines which we love. The ambiance was laid back & they had outdoor seating. Weather was breezy & beautiful & wanted to sit outdoors but it was full so we sat indoors which was nice as well. There was only server & she was hustling & bustling so we had to wait a bit but we didn't mind. The server apologized for making us wait & checked up on us a few times which I appreciated. We opted for 2 tastings each mixed in with 4 white & 4 red wines. The tastings weren't spectacular but good enough for a small pour. I like that they serve a variety of new & old world wines & service was excellent & that's why I rate this place a 4 star. The price was reasonable for the tastings & we ended up buying 3 bottles of French wine to take home. I would definitely come back bc they mentioned that they change their tasting menus weekly. I had often passed by with the intention of trying the wine here. A lot of locals tend to stop by at the street-facing outdoor patio. I came here specifically to listen to some live music from a local musician. My friend and I each ordered the wine flight which we both enjoyed. This shop does happen to sell a few food items which is convenient as a small charcuterie was just what we needed as we had skipped dinner. Despite my ignorance as a non-wine connoisseur, I did like the selection of the flight. It was a pleasant evening on the patio before the sun set meeting locals with their dogs. I typically don't mention others in my reviews but the butthurt people who had a marginal (BAD) experience during a busy day or felt slighted because they weren't "acknowledged" make me laugh. I've been to Uncorked several times over the years and while sometimes it's been a bit disjointed, I've always left satisfied. Whether it was a tasting, a quick stop in for a gift purchase, etc., my experiences have been pretty good. Now here's the kicker... I'm thankful to have this fun little spot in the neighborhood and I don't expect perfection, the lowest prices around or even a perfect experience every time. Huh? Yup. It's a small, locally owned and operated place that's hustling to stay in the game - and I love that. I also love the outside seating and views of the sun going down over Hermosa. Uncorked is a very quaint wine shop located in close proximity to the Hermosa Pier. They offer a wide variety of wines (various price points and varietals), tastings and a gift shop. I tried a tasting which included a total of 8 wines to choose from to create my wine-tasting experience of 4 selections for $20. They poured the tastings in small glasses and then I tasted on my own and followed the tasting notes on the menu. The only reason this is a 4 star vs. a 5 star is due to the fact I tasted on my own and didn't get much information about the wine from the staff. This may be due to COVID-19 changes though. I browsed the gift shop after my tasting and purchased a couple of wine related gifts for friends including beach related wine stoppers and some wine signs. read more

I was excited to stop in at 6:30 pm on a Wednesday. Very busy, lively, nice music and cute space. After waiting unacknowledged for 15 minutes I finally asked if could taste a glass of red wine. Convo went downhill from there. I was handed a wine tasting list like I should know exactly what's going on. She then glared at me impatiently waiting for my answer l. I said "ok red wine flight please". I was quickly scolded that I had to have a seat. It was busy so was confused where to go. I was told I needed a seat and basically go find one. I was clearly by myself and was not made to feel welcome whatever. I was so uncomfortable I walked out. Never to return again! I'm an event planner and would have bought wine items for clients there. My husband and I went there for an afternoon wine tasting. To say we had an amazing time is an understatement. The atmosphere was very warm and inviting. Jane, our hostess/ sommelier was incredible knowledgeable and friendly. She was super personable and friendly. She recommended great wine for my husband and I as well as cheese that complimented it so well. Afterwards , Jane was able to recommend places for us to eat that we're on walking distance of Uncorked. We ended up at The Brews Hall a short distance away. While at the Brews Hall, the bartender came to our table as we received a phone call. Turns out we left our credit card up at Uncorked. How wonderful is that?! Not only did Jane call the restaurant she recommended to us, but she also has Jeff, (the owner) offer to walk it down to us! That's incredible . Customer service on a different level. Oh, Uncorked, How you've stolen my heart - and possibly my liver. You can't beat the vibes of this small hole in the wall in Hermosa Beach. Not only do they serve up unbeatable wines, but this shop also sells fun and quirky drinking accessories, plus a variety of CHEESE. We stopped by on a Saturday night with a couple who are frequent uncorkers. The service was absolutely fantastic, and the owner did a great job of recommending wines based on our preferences. While no wine would ever be denied, Uncorked also allowed me to customize my tastings to solely whites and roses since my infant palate doesn't venture too far into red territory. We have patronized this business many times previously and just tonight around 6pm as Fiesta Hermosa was winding down, my wife stopped in with my 2 year old daughter. We were over at the Birria taco spot that doesn't have a restroom. My wife had known the business to be friendly the last time we came in so she thought we'd be able to have my daughter use the restroom. There were a few patrons on the patio but the inside was empty. My wife politely pleaded with the older woman (was this you Kathleen?) if my daughter who was on day 3 of potty trainer could please use the restroom. The woman angrily retorted, "Absolutely not!" Does Jeff still own this business with Kathleen or is she a new owner? Kathleen keeps responding as Jeff to reviews and it's confusing. I understand during the fiesta that it is likely busy and non patrons are told there isn't a public restroom but I find it extremely heartless to not allow a 2 year old to use the bathroom. You were 2 once as well and should have a bit of a heart and be able to bend your rule for a little girl. We will never patronize your business again due to your inability to sympathize with a young child. Thankfully the kind woman at Fritto Misto had no issue with her heart. read more

We stopped by here several weeks ago and did a wine tasting with 2 of our friends. And this place is so cute! It looks just like a standard wine store, however they have tastings and even have a wine club that you can sign up for, that our friends are members of. This was the first wine tasting that I had done, so I didn't really know what to do. I said to just give me the same wines that the other guy was drinking. I didn't hate anything that I tried, so as the first time really drinking wine, that's a positive! We chilled here for a few hours and got some cheese and crackers, which I was told was really rich and creamy. Great time with friends! read more

Stopped by for happy hour on a Thursday night with a few girls. It's a very cute little wine shop with a surprisingly wide selection of wine! It started getting slightly packed and people were standing around doing some wine tasting as well. There is a big table in the back & we brought our own cheese & crackers (they let you do this!). There is a small fridge with cheese that you can purchase as well. The 2 staff members that helped us out, Anjilla & Nancie, were very friendly & informative! Happy hour prices are amazing. Went here with the wife when she wanted to do a tasting with a friend, wines were ok but nothing special. There is limited room at the bar so we sat at one of the tables in the back, and with only one bartender we felt kind of ignored as she spent most of her time with the people sitting at the bar and ringing up walk in customer purchases. Short version: A cozy wine shop offering a variety of wine, gifts, tastings, and even bottles you can take to neighboring restaurants for free corkage! Elaborated version: Uncorked is my go-to wine spot in the South Bay...and, to be honest, it was my go-to spot even when I was on the West Side. They have a good selection of wines at different price points, accommodating pretty much any wallet. You'll often find the counter full of people tasting, as they offer a reasonably priced and always-changing tasting (I think it's usually five wines, and they even offer a beer tasting as well). Pretty much any time I come in here I enjoy a tasting, where you can chat with the staff or other friendly customers. I see some of the reviews complaining about customer service, which is sad and odd to read. I'm a fairly shy person, but I've always been helped out here and the staff is very friendly. Service *can* slow down a bit if there are a lot of people tasting, but I would say that's been a very minor issue. My favorite perk here is that a lot of nearby restaurants offer free corkage for 1-2 bottles of Uncorked wine. In other words, you stop by here, pick up a bottle of wine, and take it to your restaurant to enjoy. What started as a great day ended in complete disappointment at this place. If I could give it a zero I would. My wife and I stopped there for some wine tasting and very much enjoyed our time there. We even met another couple that we got along with great and will get together again in the future. Our waitress even made a comment on how people meet others there.there was a sign on the table that started $20 minimum per person and 2 hour limit, we met the requirements and even asked the waitress if we needed to leave soon, she stated we could stay another 20 minutes, I asked if we purchased additional wine could we stay longer and she said yes. 2 1/2 hours total time had gone by and I just purchased another bottle of wine and spent over $150 dollars. You may ask why zero stars if you had a great time? Then came out "Daryl" I believe that's his name, guy probably in his 60's longer grey hair and told us we needed to leave, I advised the waitress had said we can stay and hadn't finished the wine we purchased, he then briought out the wine and set a clock on his phone for 10 minutes and we needed to leave after that and we should never come back. Imagine that paying customers told never to come back again!. He treated us like criminals in front of all the guests, the table next to us said to forget about it as they heard us talk to the waitress that said we could stay. My wife was so upset she left crying . Daryl threatened to call the police to kick out paying customers . We have never been treated so bad in our lives. Daryl is a disgrace to customer service and needs to be fired! In this economy places like this need all the customers they can to stay afloat, I hope the owner takes this seriously and reaches out to me. read more

I gifted the premium wine club from Uncorked for my husband when we were still dating years ago. With the club we receive 2 reds (you have an option of red and white as well) each month, with one free tasting at the pick up, and $10 tasting whenever (special events sometimes excluded). We love the club and we love Uncorked as it has become part of our Hermosa community. When we first joined I didn't know much about wine, but my husband is a connoisseur. After years of being together I've gotten up to speed, but one of the many great things about Uncorked is its very approachable if you're unfamiliar with wine, but the staff is also extremely knowledgeable if you're well versed in wine too. The store is well curated with many additions not mass distributed at most price points. The owner also makes his own wine which creates a special touch (I really like his sangiovese and GSM). Friday nights often have a theme or the actual wine maker there. We especially love that the team at Uncorked has come to know our tastes and let us know about new things in the shop we'd be interested in. All and all its a very charming place that is easy to enjoy! read more

I love this place. It's a great little wine shop that does tastings. My fiance and I have been there several times for the tastings which are great. We enjoyed it so much that we were convinced to join the wine club. I don't want to sound like an advertisement but the 2 bottles a month, and optional one free tasting (during off-peak days) are a great deal. For people like me who enjoy, but don't know much about wine, it's a perfect place. The staff are so friendly and helpful that they make us feel like we are friends coming over to their home for a glass of wine. They explain the wines and talk in-depth about them, making me feel like I walk away with a little more knowledge than I came with. I also find the crowd that gathers there for the tastings are very friendly and pleasant as well. Check it out for a tasting, if you can go on a Monday-Thurs (it's less crowded). Also- if you buy a bottle there, you can bring it to most of the local restaurants for free corkage- that's a bonus. read more

Well whadddaaayakno! Some nice wine-tasting near the beach! The moment you walk in, you are in the cozy, rustic shop portion. In the center, you see the wine-tasting counter. Past that, elevated by a step or two is the seating area. Kinda romantic for dates. Tastings were good. Staff was nice and fairly knowledgeable about their products. Parking: There is metered parking along Pier, but if you don't mind the walk, there is free parking towards the residential area by the basketball courts on Valley Dr. Good place, no complaints from me. Still have to come back for future visits so that I can give more accurate accounts of this place. As with any review of any business: If you walk in with unrealistic expectations, you're going to spoil your own experience and satisfaction. These wines come from all over the world, and it's a casual wine place. They're fairly knowledgeable of the wines they feature, but to expect them to know all the details like the back of their own hand reflects more on the Yelper than the business. A terrific little place at the top of Pier Ave. where you can have a nice tasting, pick up a good bottle, and strike up a nice convo with the locals of all ages and stripes. The first time I went, I picked up a bottle of Tamber Bey Rubicano, and co-owner Jeff asked me if I'd tried it. When I told him I loved it, he immediately gauged my taste and proceeded to show me a bunch of other things I'd like--and I definitely did. I'm not a fan of typical Pinots, but he showed me two meatier ones from small vineyards that I loved (Missing Leg and Cima Collins). Which bring up my tip: If you like a wine there, BUY IT. Right away. Because they often have unique selections from small batch wines that will probably be gone by the end of the weekend; coming back for it is not an option (but they will try to order it for you). At least I went home with a free glass, except the guy behind the counter told me it was really cheap. Though that might be true, the comment was a bit of a downer. Ha. I was in Hermosa for the weekend and thought I would give this place a try. From the outside the place appeared very inviting and cute, but after browsing the selection, the customer service was less than and unwelcoming. The two women who were running the shop that day were semi standoffish and did not seem to care about customer service. After asking a couple simple wine related questions, the two women did not seem interested in answering or helping out. I thought I would try there tasting flight, and again customer service was seriously lacking. They could not tell me very much if anything about the wines, handed me a glass, poured the wines into the decanter and just left it on the counter, going back to what they were ordinary doing. Uncorked offered wine tastings at a Yelp event that my wife and I attended last night. We were very impressed with the expeirence. Jeff put a significant effort into designing a well-balanced tasting that was appropriate for the event but also nicely balanced between whites, reds, varietals and meritages. If you ever find yourself in a "rut" of wine boredom, they can help cure that while expanding your wine IQ. They have events coming up that feature wines from Morocco and Hungary...I never even knew that there were wines in those places! He's definitely a foodie as well, so if you're planning your own special event, you have another reason to pay Uncorked a visit. I expect that you'll walk away with just the right wine mix customized for your event. In addition to being very knowledgeable, Jeff is also extremely personable, which definitely helps to make the overall experience very enjoyable. I really wanted to like this place. Cute shop for sure. We tried their 5 wine flight and were completely underwhelmed by all 5 wines. They drank like $8 bottles aside from the Renwood Zin which was a little better but not much. The girl helping us shorted us a bit on the last pour (we knew because all 4 previous wines allowed us 4 small sips... but this one was just 2-3...) and I walked out thinking "why would you short a customer and save the owner 30 cents while making the customer feel gypped - knowing that it was our first time at the shop they should be working to make you love it... but no. Saved the owner's 30 cents instead. We won't be back. Shop owners take note: you have one chance to impress a new customer... don't blow it with short pours and C+ grade offerings. Impress us :) that's what we are hoping for. We drink and evaluate a lot of wine and these wines were all tight and unforgiving examples that people who don't know wine might be talked into buying.. nothing more. I even heard the fellow working behind the counter taste the second wine from the flight and say "hm.. not really my thing" and pour it down the drain. On the other hand if you go to Friends of the Vine you will receive a very healthy pour of close to 3 oz and the wines will all be reasonable if not exceptional. Sorry uncorked. Need to choose better wines and watch the skimpy pours when trying to woo new clients. read more
