A couple of weeks ago, my family and I dined at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse. We ordered a wine which we enjoyed, so I went online to see if I could find a store which carried this product. This is how I found out about "Manhattan Fine Wines". When I was in the area, I detoured to visit this store. It was easy to find, and there was plenty of parking in the shopping center. It is a smaller shop (in terms of square footage), but it is well stocked. More importantly, the internet lead was accurate and the wine I was looking for was in stock. The store owner is doing a good job of using the internet to market his inventory. There is a lot of wine in this store that I have not seen in other outlets. And the individual I interacted with (the proprietor?) was knowledgeable of his inventory. This was my first visit, but it won't be my last. read more

Quality selection of champagne during a time when there is a champagne shortage! I was able to find both Billecart rosé as well as Billecart 2008 Elizabeth Cuveé in abundant amounts for a family party that I was hosting. Nice and helpful staff! The only concern I would raise is storage at the location. The sun comes barreling in through the front and I would worry that some of the harder to find wines that aren't often sought out might not be stored properly until they are purchased. read more

Joe, the owner is simply the best!!! Love this place! The other guys that work there are very knowledgable as well!!! I go in about once a week and sometimes just get a bottle, but if the guys have a deal like last week...it's a case. The variety of wines and sprits is perfect and well laid out. easy to browse and if the guys see you wandering, they are there to help and suggest wines. Last week I wanted a really nice Malbec for a friend. I drink Malbec's a bunch, but have never found the perfect vintage. I wanted the price to be in the $10-15 range (they never make you feel like you have to spend more) and they went right to Alamos. It has become my go-to Malbec. I was looking for a quality place to purchase wine from. The first employee behind the counter barely acknowledge me as he was to busy chitchatting with what appeared to be a friend of his. The other employee came out, no reaction from him either. So I ended making my own choice without being engaged by neither of them. Went to the counter and paid. Left like I went in earlier without being noticed, even though I wished them to have a good day. Just a glorified liquor store. Very disappointed. read more

Manhattan Fine Wines is amongst the best wine shops in Southern California, and I believe it is hands-down the best in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. I have been a customer for about 4 years now, slowly but surely becoming more acquainted with their great selection. It was important to me to have a great wine shop close to home as I moved back from Sebastopol (Sonoma Co.) in 2007 and needed my fix! No, I needed a place where I could at least have access to the same wines however. You can find RRV wines at Costco, but for one-stop with a great selection, you would normally find yourself looking up a wine warehouse or super store. A drive to Wally's or at worst, BevMo. Manhattan Fine Wines fills that role dutifully and beautifully. I like the service here. If you want recommendations or their pick, just ask. If you want to be completely alone, just do your thing and they will not bother you. They are a great help and have enough experience to be able to dial in on your tastes. (As the last reviewer mentioned, say you don't like maloactic in your Chard and they will understand) The selection is great. On the lower, mid, and high-end, they have a lot of great wines. For those that are after cult or semi-cult wines, come to MFW. They've got Sine Qua Non, Williams-Seylem, Kistler, Hundred Acre, Screaming Eagle, etc. I recently bought Black Kite, Littorai, and Radio-Coteau. The prices are reasonable. I've purchased wines here ~10% less than they charge at the winery. I've purchased wines at Costco even, to see them at MFW for only a few more dollars. They really make an effort to charge reasonable prices. They have quite a few QPRs, whether you're looking at domestic Pinots, Priorat or Rhones. You can stop here and buy Krug or Cristal, Cheateau Margaux or Domain Leroy, or you can bring in $20 and get a wonderful wine. I picked up a $20 Barolo the other day (a village blend, but still) that was great. My only complaint would be a minor one. When I want a Hermitage or Cote Rotie, or let's get crazier: a Washington red or a South African wine, I want to select from dozens of choices. It's purely space, and here they don't have enough to be able to offer that amount of choice. They pick their wines wisely, but still, some times you hear a name and you just want to run to the nearest wine place and pick it up. Still, they have the Kermit Lynches and Berkeley Imports. That's what I'd like to see more from them. Know your importer and implore your local shop to carry more from them. That's how you change the ruling perceptions. I can't say enough good things about this place. Other than the fact that I live in Long Beach and have to drive there, this store is perfect. In fact, the fact that I drive from Long Beach to purchase higher end wines from MFW should say it all. I just picked up a Nickel and Nickel Stag's Leap District Cab that would've cost me $85 at any other retailer, and they had it for $70. Their selection of whites was restrained only be the amount of floor space they had available, but they sounded like they'd be willing to bring a case of something in if it was reputable enough (I mentioned DR Stephens Chard, and they didn't flinch at my request to have them obtain some). When I explained I was looking for a Chard leaning more towards a Seavy and further from a Truchard, they knew EXACTLY what I was saying, and proved it by double checking that I meant lower acids, more butter, with a rolling but structured finish. You don't need to understand what I'm saying, you just need to get from it that these guys don't just sell the wines, they taste and KNOW them inside and out. I CAN NOT remember the last time I was at a retail store with this extensive a selection that had such knowledgeable, useful staff. On top of that, their finest of wines had the most reasonable of prices I'd seen in ages. I will hands down be back again and again and again. Thank you guys! I've solicited MFW numerous times a year for a bottle of wine or gift certificate since becoming involved in community philanthropy. MFW has never participated, always some excuse! I absolutely LOVE this place!!! Incredible wine selection. I prefer to support small businesses rather than big chains, so to have this little gem shared with me was quite a delight. They carry all of my favorites from simple table wines like King Estate Pinot Gris and Gascon Malbec to Gurgich, Hess, Flowers, Turley, Quintessa, Chateau Y'quem and more! These guys really know their wines, and offer it a few bucks cheaper than even the big wine stores. They have a good Champagne section and a small refrigerated room for their premium bottles. They are very good at keeping up with mentions in Wine Spectator and the L.A. Times. If you need the harder stuff, they offer a small but strong selection, including some labels are a bit harder to find. read more

The mall with Fedex/Kinko, Bally Total Fitness, CoffeeB&TeaL, Lindburg Nutrition and MacDonald, right? Next to a small pharmacy/gift shop? The goole map does not seem right..... Anyway, I like this shop. It feels like a smaller version of Los Angeles Wine Co, the another store that I love. What I like about this place is the tiny card sign indicating the rating and short description put on their featured wines. Excellent selection with competitive prices, many great Bordeaux values to be found in the refrigerated cellar toward the back of the store. Also lots of small-production California Pinot & Zin (e.g., Loring, Turley) and many options from reliable Southern Rhone producers (e.g., E Guigal, St Cosme), all at great prices. My only feedback to management is to keep the website updated with the current availability - I was excited to try a particular Burgundy on Halloween that was not in stock despite Wine-Searcher and the MFW website indicating it was. read more

When you dont want to deal with all of the options at BevMo, go to this great little wine store. The guys who work there know what they are talking about. Tell them what you like/want, and they'll want something perfect for you. Its nice and small so its easy to explore and find something that fits your price point and taste preference. There's even a room that is basically off limits unless you know your going to spend $100+ which I haven't dared to go into yet, but a lot of the local Manhattan Beach Dad's have become familiar with, check it out. This place was suggested to me by a waiter at Flemings, so you know they have the best. They also have a very nice selection of hard liquor. read more

Really nice selection of wines and decent prices (maybe 3-5% percent more expensive than BevMo). Low maintenance (folding tables w/ boxes instead of shelves), but I'm fine with that to keep prices down. My husband and I perused for about 20 minutes and weren't offered any help, but it was New Year's Eve day and try seemed to be restocking. On business travel in El Segundo looking for Carmel Road Chardonnay and found this place on the Carmel Road website. Only carried the Pinot and suggested another wine as comparable from a flavor standpoint. The result was something that tastes like BAD house wine. Very disappointing. Only reason for the second star was because they appeared to have a good selection and good reviews by others, but staff definitely doesn't know what they have. read more

I love Manhattan Fine Wines, formally Manhattan Liquors. I love Joe the owner and his staff Ken and Jack. They are always helpful. I blame them for increasing my wine knowledge - now I spend too much on wine. I've been to many wine shops around Los Angeles and while their are larger places to shop for the South Bay they are the BEST. His prices are always competitive, the staff is knowledgeable and they are always happy to help you know matter what your price range is. I've been to some places where they always want to upsell me. I can say to Joe or Ken - I'm on a budget this week and they will always find me something or if I am spending more on wine they will always find me the exactly what I'm looking for. They understand my palate and always suggest something I will like. Prior I would get frustrated at other stores and they would suggest something only to come home after spending a considerable amount of money and not liking it. Not here - they always get it right. I've send so many people to them - I even call them from Napa asking them if I would like a particular winery. It's small and compact and no frills but to me it's the best in the South Bay. read more
