I find it odd ... I have been coming to BLÜM for almost a year now. I get my wife a regular combination of her favorite wine and a hand held bouquet of flowers. Every time it's effortless and easy to stop in on my way home and is always a home run. What strikes me as odd is that I showed up this last time disheveled with tacky clothes on from my work as I hadn't had time to freshen up before hand and was treated completely different. The price of my usual purchase was quoted to be double what I had normally spent. When I asked about it, I wasn't given any explanation, just had the price tag repeated with the blank stare or perhaps a flat affect which mimicked that of someone who sees those lesser than as objects rather people with individual experiences. Rather than get mad or upset, I managed to catch a glimpse of how I looked and presented myself in this shop and realized I was not welcome here nor was I of the type that should be in such a place. After saying I would take my business else where if this was what was preferred I was told okay and then received a cold shoulder sealing the deal that this was no longer part of my routine. I visited this store today and was initially impressed by its presence from how it looked from the outside. I walked in with a positive attitude, expecting a welcoming environment. However, my experience was very disappointing. There were three employees present (two women and one man), and when I greeted them, no one responded. I then asked what type of store it was, and the only answer I received was "a store," which felt dismissive and unhelpful. The overall atmosphere was uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I left feeling ignored and honestly, disrespected. It gave me the impression that I was being discriminated. which is never okay. Customer service matters, and no one should feel unwelcome when simply walking into a business. I hope the store can reflect on this and do better moving forward. We're in a time where respect and good service should be the standard. read more

Tucked in a small mini group of shops off PCH, this charming florist and gift shop has a museum of fascinating wines from around the world. They specialize in organic, natural wines and boutique wineries, and you can find most any varietal your palette desires with prices that work for all budgets. I left with an intriguing cabernet franc from Slovenia. You can also buy exquisite floral arrangements, candles, books, and more. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. I'm told they're having tastings soon, too. Plus, the other venues nearby are worth checking out: Prime Pizza, Offset Coffee, and Just Massage. Know, too, that they have a monthly wine subscription. The staff was super kind and courteous, and the floral arrangement? GORGEOUS. With so many floral shops charging a premium for a basic arrangement, Blum stands out as the supreme choice. This cute small wine, flowers and gift store is a welcome addition to El Segundo! They specialize in organic wines from smaller producers and even have wine and flower clubs to join. I quickly found a birthday gift of wine and chocolates. Supposedly going to start tastings as well. I only wish they were in downtown El Segundo instead of that random strip mall on PCH that is hard to get in and out of, driving let alone walking, seems more for the folks working in those towers next door than actual residents. They should take advantage of all the PCH traffic and get a street facing sign as currently you would never know they are there plus participate in DTES events such as the art walk to garner resident awareness and support. read more

Pretty neat place. And right next to Prime Pizza which makes for a good matchup. Blüm has high-quality, organic wines from all over the world. The owner was super helpful, giving me a tour of many of the wine options. I came home with three nice bottles from three different countries that I'll be enjoying with company soon. Highly recommend for the wine aficionados. I didn't really check out their flower options on this visit, but they had a lot of really nice flowers and other gifty items as well. Wow! So impressed with this shop. I used to drive 45 minutes to Silverlake to buy a nice flower bouquet, but they were nothing compared to Blüm's, and to have it in the South Bay near my home is so crazy fortunate on my end. My wife loved her valentines flowers from here, I'll definitely be coming back each occasion. I'm new to natural wines but I had some really great bottles they recommend ("Do Nothing" was my favorite). It's exciting to get introduced into this whole Natural/organic/biodynamic wine niche -- very refreshing and not expensive. Very happy to have this new energy in the South Bay! read more
