Ah, good old Robert's Liquor. This liquor store has been here for a long time. I remember coming here in the early 2000s, usually before hitting up one of the bars on the same pier. This store has a sizable selection of liquor, as well as your standard convenience store fare. I would normally buy a small snack (i.e. energy bar) to hold me over throughout the night. This store would normally be closed by the time the bars close up for the night. This store sees a lot of locals, and most people and workers here are chill. No funny business is tolerated, as HBPD keeps a close watch over the pier area. This is a convenient stop in the pier area, if you want to pregame it or get some snacks, come shop here. read more

I went into the liquor store a little after midnight last night to purchase three water bottles. The cashier then told me that I owed him $16!! I said "how much are the water bottles?!" I could tell that I caught him off guard and he began to try to come up with an explanation for the astronautical price. (Please note that I was sober but most in the store at this hour are not.) After telling him that the prices of the waters were not listed that high, he changed the price without saying anything else and wouldn't even look me in the eye. Not sure if overcharging people is a usual game he plays? Just be sure you're paying attention before handing over your payment. read more

Rum Drinkers, don't bother. There's nothing worth noting here. Wine swillers and vodka sippers will take heart knowing that all their bases are covered. They do have Dill Pickle flavored Kettle Chips, so the trip here wasn't a complete bust. Besides, it's conveniently located next to all the bars by the HB pier. read more

Absolutely a rip off. I had a few minutes to kill before a luncheon, so I decided to go to Robert's Liquor to find a quick snack. I found a Slim Jim beef jerkey (about 8-10" long) and decided to break my diet. They charged $2 for the slim jim! Absolutely rip off! The clerk probably decided to make up his own prices on the spot. Avoid this place at all costs. The racism runs rampant. My boyfriend just asked for CHANGE. QUARTERS for his dollar. Yet the Asian woman cashier refused to give him CHANGE. Even though he was making a purchase, she told him to get change, it "depends on what you buy." We spent $40+ dollars and come back to the cashier. My boyfriend asked, "Can I have my change now?" The lady said "don't give me that dirty look." And my bf said, "that's not a dirty look" and just walked out. She ended up giving me the change as she refused to help him or give him change. I'm sorry but who refuses to give money for MONEY. NOTHING off your back. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. read more

Horrible experience I was on my rode my bike And it was a very hot day I was actually overheating I needed to get something to drink and a quick snack I am a road cyclist my bike is extremely expensive he told me to leave my bike outside I was merely just going to lean it gently So I could keep an eye TOM the manager refused to let me do that and said too bad you should have a lock And would not let me purchase anything I explained to him I wasn't feeling well he didn't care. I hope the rest of the cycling community bans this store. He should be ashamed of himself. read more

Awesome people work here. Friendly, courteous, helpful. Come here All the time for my lotto tickets. Can't get enough. The prices are over the edge here. Smart locals don't shop here. Otherwise get your lottery tickets and go. Can't complain for buying lottery tickets. 5 stars for the service I get. Kind of find it funny people complaining about prices. Lol I don't shop in Beverly Hills because I can't afford to. But have no problem here. These are typical prices in areas around the country that are frequented by tourist. I'm treated very well here. Spent time at the beach this weekend and did not want to pay a premium for drinks to be crowded outside for "patio seating" at nearby options. Came to Robert's Liquor after lunch and found a good selection of drinks, got my brown bags, and off to sand I went. Thank you to Jan and Jose for always being so nice! I've came here for many years whenever I was on hermosa pier and even though things are pricy it make sense when you right on the pier.. I feel like they always treat me well and greet me with a smile! I will always appreciate them respecting me and loving to see me when I show up! I am here to just write a huge THANK YOU! I feel like if someone remembers me and treats me with love even when they don't see me as frequent it means a lot. Major overprice items. Be careful! No prices on items. Once, you get to the cash register the Asian old guy will just give you a well rounded price. He doesn't scan the items. For example, I grabbed a Kamboucha (typically $3-$4). He charged me $6, no scanning, no receipt, no nothing. They guy behind me got a water and a small rice crispy treat. The asian charged him $5. I guess he feels that since he is Hermosa Beach he can charge airport prices with no prices on the items. He can change the price on the fly. I guess he thinks everybody around here is rich. Bad business guys! Stay away! Don't buy from people with shaky ethics. read more

Not a really great spot at all to stop by for anything. The guy overprices on every single thing. A small bag of ice cost me over $4! A 7lbs bag that usually cost me $1.50 any other store. Now it was the nearest store that had ice so the next day I got ice from another place and like I mentioned, the 7lbs bag of ice they had there was under $1.50. I was skeptical about overpricing from other reviewers but take their advice. The Asian guy there was very rude and also didn't scan anything like the other items my friends bought which were also overpriced. read more

They've got a variety of liquor to choose from & that's good enough for me! I gotta say though they very much do have overpriced snacks. It's also usually packed since it is super close to The Strand and everyone who doesn't stock up before getting to the beach stocks up at this spot. Roberts Liquor might have very well been my first liquor store experience in the South Bay. I moved to Hermosa Beach at a young 19 years of age. I immediatly got a jobby job at Bank of American on the Hermosa pier. Fu*kin killer right? Hot guys, hot girls, what more could a single 19 year old ask for? Well, Roberts Liquor supplied me with many lunches, coffee breaks and sun block needs for years. The older gentleman who works at Roberts sitll remembers me and my sister, and of course, asks about her every time I come in. 'nuf said. Basically Roberts is just the same as all other liquor stores except the staff will remember you forever. Or at least for 11 years in my case. Love ya! read more

I wish I could give negative stars. These guys are serious SERIOUS jerks. And talk about price gouging!! If you can at all avoid it, DO NOT GO TO ROBERT'S LIQUOR. Most expensive liquor store I've EVER SEEN. $14 for a 6 pack of Corona. They are incredibly obnoxious too. Plus they have ridiculous debit card and credit card minimums. I wish the Hermosa Beach city council could boot these guys and put someone in there who is town friendly. Unfortunately, they have a prime piece of real estate. Walk a block up to Abe's liquor. Much nicer and a little cheaper... Or better yet walk another two blocks up to VONS. If you're buying a single bottle of wine, that 15 minutes will save you about $15 to $20. You have to spend at least $10 if you make a debit or credit purchase. They don't take expired food off the shelves- I bought something in March 2012 that was expired November 2011. When I called to notify them to check their food for expired dates, they didn't even say thank you. I'll pass on shopping here again. read more

Very friendly staff and I just got my favorite bottle of Chardonnay, Cuvaison at a very reasonable price. It's right by the beach and Hermosa pier and has an awesome retro (well 90's retro) beach mural on the back side wall, really cool and worth checking out.
