To experience the Balkans in the D.C. area, drive to MezeHub. Park in the small lot and walk into a market and cafe. Seating is to the right where you can order popular dishes at the tables or pastries like sausage rolls from the counter. To the left is a market full of products from places like Romania, Serbia, Moldova, and more. Wine from the region clearly marked is in the back.

MezeHub is honestly the best Balkan spot I've been to in the DMV. Although it's a little on the pricier side, everything I tried was fresh, flavorful, and came out piping hot. Ćevapčići (5/5) - Juicy grilled beef sausages and onions on toasty somun bread, served with kajmak (clotted cream) and ajvar (roasted pepper spread). I can't believe I've never tried kajmak before... it was so whipped, fatty, and just delicious in the sandwich -- like a warm mix of ricotta and butter. The meat was tender and flavorful, and the creamy kajmak with the smoky ajvar tied everything together beautifully. Bosnian pide (4/5) - Resembled a pizza but with a thinner dough base. I loved the sudzuk sausage -- smoky, spiced, and so satisfying. It had just the right amount of sauciness and cheesiness, and it wasn't oily at all. Beef + potato burek (4/5) - Super thin layers of phyllo dough wrapped around a generous, hearty filling. It reminded me of spanakopita, but meatier and just as comforting. The food tastes so fresh and homemade, and you can tell they really care about quality. The service was also great, the staff walked me through the menu and answered all my questions. I was so curious about the different Balkan dishes and their processes, and they were so patient and helpful. The restaurant itself is big: a handful of tables, fairy lights, and tall ceilings made it feel cozy but open. A very cute, casual spot to enjoy your meal. Plus, it's attached to a Balkan market, so you can grab goodies to take home afterward.

Yes, I've been making a lot of trips to Rockville (Maryland) lately... and, while there, I'm making a lot of wonderful food discoveries! Today's find was a Balkan grocery called MezeHub, with a case full of hot house-made Bureks (meat or vegetable-stuffed pastries). The menu offers a host of other Balkan delights such as Ćevapi (house-made sausage), Pide (canoe-shaped flatbreads with various fillings... tasted and loved them in Istanbul), flatbreads, salads, and sandwiches. Today I got four Bureks: Beef, Beef & Potato, Mushroom, and Spinach-and-Cheese. At about $8 each, they're good value for made-from-scratch foods with quality ingredients. So if you love food from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia plus parts of Turkey and Greece), get yourself to Rockville and support this great nosh nook!!

Very excited to try this place out!

So if said I'd update this review after I tried Cevapcici (beef kebabs) or as Business Owner Doug called them, Cevapi (BTW, he's a charming dude who is a pleasure to chatbwith). Anyway, now that I've had it, I am happy to report that I am adding MezeHub to my six star list. The combination of the meats, sauces, bread, and onions are beyond description. Each bite is a harmony of flavors and I simply cannot get enough of it. I'm hoping to get a small gathering of Yelp Elites to an event here to share the secret MezeHub. If you've been eyeing this place to try it out, the time is now. I wish I'd done it years ago.

First time visitors. We had 2 Turkish coffees and shared a toasty cheese burek. The coffee and the burek were fantastic. Nicely decorated cafe and friendly staff. Can't wait to go back when we're hungry and dive into the menu a bit more. Loved the overall vibe of the place.

This is my second time visiting. Mezehub and it was another total hit. The Pide was crispy, cheesy, and meaty while still being lite and crisp. The Cevapi was an amazing sandwich with Akvar, Kamak, thin onions on homemade bread. The cevapi were bouncy and flavorful with a generous serving. The side fermented cabbage and pickle were epic .

Mezehub is an absolutely delightful place. The Balkan restaurant has a full menu of lunch items as well as a store full of imported foods. There are numerous table and some cozy sofas to enjoy the Burek (rolled phyllo dough) as well as Pide (wood fired flat bread) and Shwarmajun. Delicious. I cannot wait to go back.

Their payment terminals had some issues as one of them couldn't process my credit card nor even the cash I had. The food was amazing. Initially I thought my borek would be cold only to realize after my first bite that the borek was warm and there was a warmer underneath the tray where the borek was kept inside the display case. There is ample seating to sit and there is even a comfortable sofa section as well. There is great music in the background that almost me fall asleep while relaxing there on a afternoon. I can't wait to go back to try the other foods on their menu.

Absolutely amazing! My wife came running back to the bookstore excited to show me the place. The prices are good, but the food and custom service is phenomenal! We definitely will be craving the food here again. We got the ćevapčiči sandwich and have no regrets!

Order at the counter for dine in or take out. If you dine in, order and pay at the counter, get a number, and pick a table. The left half is a grocery store, the right half is the restaurant/ hot food section. The staff was friendly and was happy to answer questions I had about the food. If you walk to the back of the seating section you can see them making food. Also, in the middle of the store is a glass enclosed room where food prep happens. Many areas are also very selfie friendly.

This is a market and a restaurant. They have pastries and flat breads and pides of various types. I ordered a shawarmajun flat bread and it was delicious. I want to try a pide next time. The staff was very attentive and helpful. They have a huge space and a large variety of groceries.

Turkish coffee with a sugar cube and tiny stirring spoon (plus a little treat!) .... Mmm!

I love this place! I always feel so good when I get there. I find it warm, homey, with nice, friendly people -- everyone who works there is so nice! -- and great food in a really comfortable, clean, airy, breezy, open, spacious atmosphere with culturally cool decorations .... In the very few minutes it takes to get my eat-in meal order delivered to my table, I like to go shopping and stock up on snacks and all kinds of goodies, such as chocolate-covered bananas (I got three different kinds today!) and things I can't find anywhere else including horseradish in a metal squeeze-tube, plain-ish (salted, though) corn puffs, potato chips -- okay, yeah, these are things you can get somewhere else, you could say, if you want lots of preservatives and other unhealthy additives, sure, but these are different and better for you! Plus, there is a picture of a dog on the corn puffs! Not so with Frito-Lay! -- chocolate spread (I got one in a tube! It's nice, small and portable! So convenient, I can't believe it! Actually, a lot of the items here are really travel-ready!), blackcurrant juice, etc. A wide variety of delights is available on the shelves! When the monthly special of Truffle Cheese Flatbread (https://mezehub.com/products/truffle-cheese-flatbread) -- although there was also a different name for it that I don't want to spell because there are so many spellings possible! -- arrived, it was not only hot and in perfect shape, but a white-and-green checked paper had been chosen to put under it and it was all served on a perfectly-matching green plate that enhanced the look of the arugula atop the cheese, mushrooms and onions (I/ we got it as a vegetarian dish!); it was so pretty! It was a plentiful amount for two people who were not too hungry -- not to mention, every bite was super-soothing, and the decor put me in a really good mood, as did the deliverer of this delight! I also got a Turkish coffee -- I'm always so grateful when I can find that -- and had a nice discussion with the deliverer about various sugar-cube eating or drinking methods .... It was all delicious! (I've been here multiple times, and it always is!) There is parking directly in front -- closer than you can find just about anywhere, though it's only a few spots and that section of the parking lot may be full; the benefits of these close-up spots are convenience in terms of short walking and also carrying distance, but it can be a little bit of work to get out sometimes. There are also spots a little farther away. I never had trouble finding a spot, though! I highly recommend this place -- but only if you don't like boring! Break-down of ratings: Yumminess -- all the stars in the sky! Fun -- plentiful! Worth-the-trip-ness -- yes!

Delicious food (could do better with the presentation and assembly) Excellent customer service and a very welcoming, chill ambiance. Definitely going back.

The meat platter, a salad, a pistachio cake, and a Turkish coffee.

When we walked in, we thought it was gonna be packed because there were no reservations on OpenTable however they were able to see us right away. A very nice touch to add a stem of Rose for the women. I would say that I gave it a lower star rating not because the food was bad. It was actually delicious, but probably the experience itself. The restaurant felt chaotic, and even though all the tables were not completely packed of course there were flowers everywhere people gathering with grandmother's mother's children, etc We were seated in a two people table and all the top past dishes started to pile up very quickly. Instead of monitoring, the progress of the finished dishes and removing those dishes due to space constraint, the dishes came from the kitchen, almost on top of one another, and at one point I had to hold a dish in my hand in order to make space to put a dish on top of another flatbread pan/dish, making things super chaotic. Also dishes had to be put on top of the menu because in order to order additional food, you need to leave at least one copy of the menu at the table. Overall, again the flavors and taste were good, though I might have had similar dishes from other places, and my partner commented that some of it is actually very close to the Capital One landing at DCA. I would just say that it was more due to the chaos and just the way that all the dishes piled up on top of us we felt like we were we had to eat super quickly so that we could stack dishes ourselves and create room at the table. Also, when serving the dishes were not kept level and basically was slide to the side of the dish, making presentation off

I chose Ambar for my group, and I'm very pleased with our selection. Food Most of our group had dietary restrictions. Several of us were gluten free, and one person was both nut and seafood free. Ambar did an excellent job curating a menu that worked for everyone without making anyone feel like an afterthought. We opted for the Chef's Table experience, which included a spread tasting with veggie sticks and a variety of dishes that were clearly labeled and thoughtfully prepared: * Bean hummus - GF / DF / NF * Ajvar - GF / DF / NF * Balkan salad - GF / DF / NF (one prepared without feta cheese) * Baby carrots - GF / DF / NF (one prepared without tofu sauce) * Roasted peppers - GF / DF / NF * Cauliflower - GF / DF / NF * Baked beans - GF / DF / NF * Roasted lamb - GF / DF / NF * Stuffed pork belly "Sarma" - GF / DF / NF * Brussels sprouts - GF / DF / NF (one prepared without yogurt and bacon) * Seafood platter Everything was flavorful, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. The meal was so delicious that I didn't even manage to get photos of everything, which rarely happens for me. Just know we dined very well and left completely satisfied. Service The staff was wonderful from start to finish. From the event team member who served as our account manager, to the chef, to the servers and wait staff, everyone was attentive and accommodating. They handled our dietary needs with care and professionalism and made sure our group felt taken care of throughout the evening. Pricing We paid a set fee that we were able to negotiate, and the final rate wasn't too bad for a group experience like this. Just keep in mind that there is an admin fee, a 20% gratuity, and taxes added on top, so be sure to factor that into your planning if you're booking a group event. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend Ambar for group dining, especially if you have guests with dietary restrictions. They made coordination easy, delivered great food, and created a memorable dining experience for our team.

It is a $24.95 flat price offering an appetizer, entree and dessert for that price. (Only available Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday from 5-6:30 pm). There were about 6 choices each for appetizers and entrees and 3 for dessert. My companion had a mussel appetizer and I had French Onion soup. My soup was a great example of the classic preparation. Bubbly and browned cheese over a deeply flavorful broth of onions and a slice of French bread. My companion loved the mussels. As to the entree I had what was called Beef Diane, a twist on the classic Steak Diane. It consisted of tips of filet in a delicious gravy flavored with cognac. My companion had Rainbow Trout and was very happy with it. For dessert we both had cheesecake with strawberry sauce. A good example of a New York style cheesecake. Both entrees were served with well cooked mixed vegetables. The portions were not a scaled down size but normal size. The meal comes with fresh baked toasted bread served warm. Delicious. The service was attentive which was to be expected because there were only 3 tables occupied. A complimentary shot of a what I think was kahlua was served at the end of the meal. The atmosphere is lots of dark wood and a classic bar. Great food and a great experience. Don't pass up this great value!!

Because of an unexpected change of plans, we decided to have a weekend dinner here, and it turned out to be a great decision - based on the food and service. What really worked for us was that the restaurant has a few outdoor tables, and the outdoor seating is dog-friendly. First, the restaurant has a pretty extensive menu with diverse options. I will admit that I was a bit overwhelmed when the waitress mentioned all of the specials for the evening. It seemed as the list kept going, going and going. Also, the restaurant has a dinner special for about 35 bucks that includes either a 3 course meal or a 2 course meal + a glass of wine. For my dining pleasure, I went with the baked (or maybe it was broiled) flounder that was served with potatoes and green beans. Overall, I thought my meal was absolutely delicious. I do wish the portions were slightly larger. Overall, I thought the service was absolutely wonderful. Our waitress was very friendly and constantly checked in with us to make sure everything was going well. Although we visited around 5:30 pm on a Saturday, I was a bit surpised with how crowed the restaurant became around 6:30 pm. If you are planning to visit around this time, I highly recommend making reservations even though this section of Wheaton can be relatively quiet. Also, the restaurant seems to be very popular with the eldery community. During our visit, I'd say the average age of diners was somewhere in the 60s.

You have a menu of maybe 30 dishes. You can order as many as you want for a set price (50 bucks or so per person). The dishes are served in very small portions which facilitates everyone having a bite or two then moving on to the next dish. Finally, everything was good. We had a party of three and we shared maybe 13 or 14 dishes. It would be VERY difficult to pick the top 3 favorite dishes because all of them were contenders.

I'm thankful it happened early in the morning and no one was seriously injured. I hope that the owners can repair the damage allowing them to reopen this location! My understanding is that they have two other locations in the DC area. During our visit, our service was friendly, quick and efficient. We had the all-you-can eat brunch for about $37/person. We didn't elect the bottomless mimosas though I was seriously tempted! We ate inside since I was worried about the chilly morning, but the enclosed patio looked delightful. I kinda wish we'd eaten out there! Noise levels inside were manageable. The food was wonderful and some dishes like the flatbread pizza were larger than I expected. I'll say I think bottomless brunches are best enjoyed by a group of 3 minimum, ideally 4-6. For two of us, it was hard to sample as much as we'd like, especially if we want to try different things. One gets full faster than you'd expect and I hate to waste food! A couple dishes that stood out to me: the little donut holes were a treat as was the white flatbread. The beet tzatziki served with pita bread tasted amazing! I'm less of a poached egg person, so I can't comment on those options. I didn't take pics of each dish, too busy enjoying them! Definitely worth working AMBAR into your brunch rotation!

We started with olives, pickled peppers, garlic bread, and fingerling potatoes. The olives were great because each one tasted distinct, and the peppers had a lot of flavor. The garlic bread was crispy and went well with the neutral olive oil. The potatoes were crispy, salty in the right way, and came with a good aioli. I also liked that they were pre-cut or slightly smashed, which felt like a thoughtful touch. The steak with noodles was excellent. It was more like tender beef than a traditional steak, but the marinade was so flavorful. The lemongrass, garlic chili, basil, and Thai flavors worked really well, and the sauce was amazing without being overwhelming. The whole fish was my favorite dish. It was tender and fresh inside, but incredibly crispy outside. You could actually hear the crunch when cutting into it. The tomatillo salsa was genius, fresh, a little grassy, and perfect with the lightly salty, buttery rice. The salmon with yogurt and pepper was also very well done and had great crunch. The fried oyster was delicious too, with cornbread and a beautiful presentation on rocks. The only dish that felt a little plain was the shrimp with Thai curry, which was fine but not as special as everything else. Service was great, the ambiance felt fancy, and overall I loved this place. The prices are upscale, but the food is incredible.

They were moderately busy and let us know to head up the stairs. They escorted us to our table. My husband ordered the French Riviera cocktail which was really good. For our appetizers - we started with the Rabbit Sausage and the Tuna Tartare - both were delicious - definitely recommend. The Tuna Tartare was cut into pretty large cubes though - I do wish it was slightly smaller but the flavor was really good. Both my husband and my friends got the Short Rib Ravioli and my friend also ordered the Baby Spinach Salad. I really enjoyed the Short Rib Ravioli and my friend said she also enjoyed the Baby Spinach Salad. Our ravioli was delicious but my friend did indicate this his was slightly undercooked and the ravioli was a little tough. I ordered the Seafood Cioppino. While I did expect bread to use for the Saffron Broth, I ordered it on the side for an upcharge. I wish it was a little more toasted and warm. The Seafood Cioppino itself was pretty good but not sure if I would order again as it wasn't very filling by itself. I also ordered a side of the Spinach & Oyster Mushrooms in Garlic Butter. It didn't have too much of a garlic flavor and just tasted like sauteed Spinach and Mushrooms. Overall, things were good and as it got busier, service did have some lags. I liked the warm ambience of the restaurant and would consider coming back trying some of the other items on the menu.

It stands among the more refined renditions in town. A plate of escargots followed--classically prepared with garlic butter and toasted bread. If you enjoy the French/Belgian classics, then this is as good a choice as any. The cuisine features sauce - lots of it - in almost every dish. You will find it in the escargots, the duck confit, and the steak. And of course the mussels are bathed in it. But hey, you came to indulge, did you not?! You could choose broiled salmon and salad, and still be happy though. I want to like this place more than I actually do. The food is not mind- blowing. The service is a bit impersonal. Something is missing from the tableau, je ne sais quoi. The highlights of my meal were the outstanding french bread, which is served warm, and an excellent glass of Chateau Neuf du Pape, chosen by the waiter. These framed the meal, like accessories that lift a so-so outfit. Let yourself be taken by the overall impression, not the individual parts.
