This place is so cool! Walking in I could smell all the spices. It's a grocery store that has fresh foods, but also a variety of spices, breads, nuts, desserts, and more. There's also a hot bar section where you can order a variety of sandwiches, wraps, pizzas, and even dips. We got the cheesesteak and chicken Shawarma wraps both were delicious! I've eaten a lot of cheesesteaks in life and this is in my top 3 ever. You can find great online reviews of them which is why I ordered it and didn't disappoint. In fact, I was still skeptical until I took the first bite. Great seeded bread, tons of cooper sharp melted in with a massive portion of ribeye. Also got onions, peppers, and mushrooms mixed in and it was so good. This is up there with Soko and Angelo's. At first I was concerned that it was kinda small, but it's so packed with meat, I could only eat half. Got full off the fries which were also solid. Ordered from DoorDash this evening. First, the delivery went smoothly, but - oh my gosh - the food came in large, fancy cardboard boxes that made us each feel like we were receiving a very nice gift (see pics). And the food was very good. I got the Combo #2 Koobideh and Chenjeh with rice. My partner got the chicken kabob with bread entree. We also got a side order of hummus and a side order of Salad Shirazi. All of the meats (the beef, chicken and ground beef) were well prepared and flavorful. And I'll note that the beef and chicken both were moist (sometimes, kabob meats can suffer from being dry and tough). The rice with my combo was good and the bread with the chicken was a nice portion and tasted good. Each entree came with a portion of Salad Shirazi, which was good snd tasted fresh, as well as a container of yogurt. Each portion also came with a grilled half onion, a grilled hot pepper and grilled tomatoes. The tomatoes were good - honestly, not sure what to do with the huge onion and pepper. For me, smaller onion and pepper would have been fine - I feel like I'm likely going to compost most of the onion and pepper. The portions are huge and we will finish our boxes tomorrow, likely at lunch or dinner. I would say that the Hummus was "fine" but not great. I came here because I was lured by pictures of the saffron soft serve ice cream on Instagram. I stayed for ghormeh sabzi. So let's start with the ice cream. The cone was so large that I kind of tilted it so that the dog could take a look at it and ended up, dropping the cone on her face. So I went in and got a second cone. The ice cream is very, very saffron flavored which I love but my American husband thought was very weird. The only thing in my perspective that would make this better was crushed pistachios as a topping. I will tell you, Iranian ice cream is an acquired taste, and not very many people enjoy a savory sweet kind of ice cream, but I love it. My Husband did order the ghormeh sabzi and it's by far the best gourmet Sabzi I've had other than homemade. It comes in this small almost tin can and has the right mix of kidney beans to beef and it just the right amount of soreness. I ate it without the rice. It was just that good as a stew. We also ordered the chicken and koobideh combo, that came in a very, very fancy takeout box. Like I'm telling the kind of boxes you get when you buy designer purses I have expected a dust bag in there. The koobideh was quite good. I'm not sure about the chicken kebab. It was kind of dark meat and not as flavorful as I expected. We did order tadiq on the side. It's the kind of tadiq (which for those of you who don't know is basically layers of burned rice that you put the stew on top of ) that I would call the dentist special. The real reason why there's so many Persian dentist is not only because of parental influence and pressure, but also the sheer amount of cracked teeth in our population due to the consumption of tadiq. If you're brave enough, it's delicious. Go for it. If you have some extensive dental work, I would exercise some caution. This is like seven layer TADIQ. so numerous reviews mentioned this place is pricey yes it is but for the quality I can't complain. And it has a fantastic grocery store inside. This review is for the made to order hot food, not the groceries. We went n because I had seen this on somebody's IG post and we were in the area. I loved it. We waited for a while for the koobideh kebab plate. Unfortunately there's no seating area, but it came nicely packaged in a cardboard box along with the yogurt dip (I think) and a small side (cucumber) salad. We were so hungry we just went to the car and sat and devoured it. The kebab was so juicy. How did they make it like that and so tender with ground beef??? Rice was warm and buttery. I loved the grilled onion and tomato, perfect with some char. I could not handle that pepper though, so for non spicy food folks, it'll hit ya! Would 100% return! read more

They moved to a new location last year. Before the movie, We were huge fans of the place, and you bought almost all our Persian groceries from there. But now, everything is twice the price of what it used to be, and the food isn't as fresh. I'm not sure if the management team changed or what, but the service was much better in the past. Last time I came, they didn't have the double chocolate cake as pictured in my previous review but I still got another chocolate cake and it was still good, (but the double one is fantastic, can't beat that). I finally ordered from the deli and I ordered their chicken kabob and it was really good! I'm only giving 4/5 stars just because I have higher standards for chicken kabob and while here it was good, it wasn't the best I've had (personally speaking). It is still worth it to try though as my place in mind doesn't have charred vegetables as this place does, which is a nice and delicious touch. Literally many times after church I let husband know let's go see Mona and say hiii and get food from Gourmet BazaarMona has been so amazing us the first time we walked into the grocery store. She is so kind and such a beautiful welcoming owner. She even let us sample food since it was our first time. She always greeted us everytime we came and made us feel so welcomed. Mona made our day every time we come. She greets you with such a sweet motherly voice and she is someone with a big and beautiful heart to her customers. My husband and I always get so much food everytime we go. The kabobs, rice entrees, curries, appetizers, cutlets, salads, deserts!!! Oh my gosh everything is delicious!! Please please please support this business!! They are so kind and the service is top notch!! They go out of their way with their food, with their service. Efrain served us today and he was so kind explaining the dishes and food items. He also shared what goes best with certain things. He packaged our food so beautifully. This Mediterranean food store has everything you could ever want! I came here only to buy date syrup for a baked chicken dish, and let me tell you how difficult is to find this product in local stores. I found at least 8 different brands here for a reasonable price and ended up walking out with so many more things! Their fresh made Nazook pastry and Gata pastry filled with walnuts and cardamom is divine. Perfect with coffee or tea! Lots off fresh flat breads to choose from, pickles and olives galore! You can choose from a large assortment of cookies, nuts and dried fruit. I really like that the fresh cookies are packaged and nuts/dried fruits are behind a closed counter - NOT out in the open like some other area stores in which I've seen other customers dirty hands going in to sample the nuts. I haven't tried the hot prepared foods, but it must be popular because there are a lot of people putting in orders. I did try some things from the cold prepared food case. I have to sadly say that the vegetable patties were dry, under seasoned and spongy. The Kashk-e bademjan eggplant dip, was delicious and prepared in-store. This would be a great place to go if you're having company and need to grab some nice appetizers and casual sweets. Don't forget to look in the glass jar appetizer section where you'll find lots of eggplant dips and appetizers. I also have to say that the store is the cleanest & brightest I've ever seen in my life! They're incredibly well stocked with every type of canned, jarred, and fresh Mediterranean food you would ever want. Lots of brands and types of food you would only find overseas. They also carry an abundance of Kosher products for those that may be in need of. This is the type of store you walk in only to buy one or two things and walk out with $90 worth of groceries! LOL. As soon as you walk in, your eyes will light up with all the choices. All I can say is wow! Got takeout for kubideh and chenjeh kabob combo, plus a side of fries. If I had known how generous the portions would be, I would've skipped the fries. The food is good, but is held back from a 5 star rating because of how salty some of it is. The kabobs could be improved with more spices and a little less salt, but are still appetizing. The pickled vegetables and mast-o musir (Persian shallot yogurt) on the side are salty to a degree that they're inedible without being accompanied with rice or something tasteless to balance it out. Maybe I got an exceptional batch or something, but if the chef thinks the level of salt I encountered was appropriate, they might want to get tested for high sodium levels. Funnily, the fries were undersalted. My gut is if you stick with the Persian specialties, you'll be rewarded, but the generic sandwiches, pizza, and other foods might not impress you. read more

We were curious about Gourmet Bazaar as Rich eats a lot of Mediterranean style lunches. We had an errant in Rockville to perfect time to visit Gourmet Bazaar. Apparently they used to be in a smaller location but have moved into a much larger space on Rockville Pike across from Marlo Furniture and near the Roy Rogers. As you enter the market there is a small section with fresh fruit and vegetables. We picked up a bag of spinach. There were a lot of sauces, spices and teas, many with labels in other languages that I couldn't read. I picked up a bag of lentil dry soup mix. It was delicious. Unfortunately the same brand's mushroom and tomato mixes were pretty dismal but I will definitely go back and pick up more of the lentil mix. Rich loves Zatar so we added that to our cart. From the refrigerator and freezer cases came feta triangles and stuffed grape leaves. In the snack aisle we had to try some candies and corn nuts. A sign in the window of the Bazaar says "House of Kabobs". I thought it was a separate entrance but we finally figured out it was the carry-out area in the back of the market. We ordered a chicken kabob with rice and a Greek salad. This turned out to be probably the most impressive carry out order I've ever seen. The rice and kabob were in a reusable container. There was a separate container of pickled vegetables and one of sauce. These items were all tucked into a heavy cardboard open box. The portions were very generous and the Greek salad was huge. We got 5 meals out of our carry out. We are looking forward to going back again. read more

So many things to try! The store is very bright and organized. Once you walk in, you'll see a small but good variety of fresh vegetables and fruits. There is quite a frozen selection, many dried goods and tea, Turkish coffee, and spices. I tried this pistachio nougat snack and enjoyed it. I'm not a nut aficionado, but there was a very nice looking selection of nuts in the front of the store. I look forward to trying some of the hot food next time! read more

I just have to say, I've been a Persian in moco most of my life, and we've had some babgerstas restaurants...but when I first had gourmet bazaar my dad had brought it to me and I was absolutely taken by their presentation alone, AND the food was PHENOM?! I was truly wowed. So I have gone to the establishment to order a couple more times and saw it was like yekta, a food cart out place and store with foods, cheeses, Persian spices and breads. Yum! But my fav part- the meal options, they are traditional grandma meals, not just kabob. And each and everyone truly tastes phenomenal. I think ghaimeh and ghorma sabzi prob being a couple most populars! But if I'm the mood for sandwich, try kotlet or the infamous Iranian chicken salad sa which, oolvia (pronounced oolvieh). My last recommendations are to not forget to stop by the ice cream (in the freezer room with bread). Our traditional Iranian gelato ice cream and traditional rice noodle refreshing ice treat, mmm mmm mmmmm!!! Both are essentials! It is a great Persian supermarket with great service, we tried their food. Sosis Bandari (spicy hotdogs mixed with potatoes) and Sambose and Gheymeh. Hot dogs and Sambose were not that good but i liked the Gheymeh, it also comes in a very neat looking to-go package which was nice. We also tried their Saffron cone Ice cream which wasn't that great. If i go there again i would definitely try the Ghormeh sabzi this time. read more

Location Instructions: Ya know the Ledo's on Rockville Pike? The one that just was renovated and has new management? The one across from Best Buy? And the old BMW dealership that I felt was built like not too long ago... but for some reason they've decided to move/abandon it? So in that shopping center ( yep! The one with Crisp and Juicy and Sushi House) there is a little downstairs portion where Thrive Yoga is. Right next to Thrive Yoga is Gourmet Bazaar. This store is a model of using a pretty compact space in a very smart and efficient way. There's a lot packed into this little hobbit hole including but not limited too, spices, jams, tahinis, fresh produce, refrigerated produce, feta by the pound, and so much more. But there's also enough room to move easily around, and they have small shopping carts for your shopping pleasure. I was in the hunt for dried mint and turmeric for an Afghan dish I was making. And I also didn't want it to cost me an arm and a leg at like a Giant for 1 oz. Enter Gourmet Bazaar! Their spice selection was pretty legit. I was also in the hunt for whole sumac seeds that I could grind and place on top of hummus. I didn't find whole sumac seeds, but I did find a medium grind on sumac which I haven't found other places so I got that. The store workers were very friendly and knowledgeable. I asked if they carried fresh chiles as I walked around the produce a couple of times and didn't see any. The man named a few other things in the store that had chiles but was able to to tell me outright that they did not carry them. Overall, a wonderful shopping experience. BP and I walked in just to check this place out while waiting on our food at Sadaf's. We were both impressed by how well organized the market was and the variety of products sold. The market carries fruit like plums and oranges, but also traditional Middle Eastern snacks and foods and drink. My two favorite purchases were the whole wheat Maamoul (date) filled cookies and Hosbes' Kakao Kremali Grofret (coffee chocolate wafers). -1 star by the lack of excitement or customer service by the owner. We walked around the EMPTY store for 15 minutes and still were never greeted, not even when we were making the purchases. read more

The kabobs are bland and unseasoned. The rice texture is good, but again no nice aroma and taste that you get at other kabob places. The packing is an unnecessary waste of cardboard, please save these resources. Just put everything in a bag. For the price, other kabob places on Rockville Pike are way better. read more

I decided to give this place a try after not stopping by the last time I walked by. It's tucked on the bottom floor of a two story complex, but once inside, I was blown away. It's much larger than I expected and very clean and well organized. Fresh produce greet you when you first walk in and items are mostly all identified and labeled with prices. You might be able to find slightly cheaper items elsewhere but then you'd have to go elsewhere. The draws for me were the baklava and halva. I didn't care for the halva (first time I've tried it but many times I've seen it) and the baklava might be a bit heavy on what I think is cardamom, but it hasn't stopped me from enjoying most of it. There are aisles of items like gherkins, tahini paste, tea, coffee, chocolates, snacks, juices, breads, cookies, etc. All were so neatly arranged and easy to reach. I ended up picking up some snacks and coffee. In the back is a "bakery" but I would describe it as a table with presumably fresh-made bread. I was amazed when I walked into the store, it looked like a very luxurious Mediterranean grocery store with a vast inventory from all over the Middle East and Mediterranean area. The selection of hot and cold food was amazing, especially their kabobs. Their Koobideh is out of this world. They also make their own bread on-site. The carry-out presentation is amazing. I stumbled upon it while waiting for a group headed to dinner at A & J in the same strangely configured shopping center across from the BMW dealer. Gourmet Bazaar is a fantastic low-priced high-quality Middle Eastern food market tucked away a few stops north of DC on the red line. I stumbled upon it by accident, but have returned several times to stock up on hard-to-find products. Some of the highlights of my purchases are: 1. Saffron & Rose pistachio ice cream. This is Persian ice cream at its creamy best, and if you haven't tried this type of ice cream before, give the Breyers a rest and see what heavenly flavors a mix of saffron, rosewater and pistachios creates. 2. Freshly baked pitas and wraps. They are as close to authentic Middle Eastern breads as you can get on the East Coast. I buy them to freeze immediately so that I always have a good supply for hummus and dips. 3. Middle Eastern pantry essentials. I make my own hummus and need good tahini to get it right, and Gourmet Bazaar delivers -- they have many varieties of tahini. They sell a great assortment of dried beans (such as chickpeas), spices (ground or whole), hot sauces (canned harissa from Lebanon!) and other goodies. 4. Pastries and desserts. I was overwhelmed by the large assortment of halva on sale, and will certainly have to return for several trips before I make a dent in the options. They also have freshly baked baklava, spice cookies and other pastries. 5. Vegetables and fruits. They carry Persian cucumbers, which are smaller than the huge English cucumbers you get at most grocery stroes -- awesome! These cukes are the best for a delicious parsley, tomato and cucumber salad. They have eggplants, tomatoes, onions, grapes, bananas, oranges and a huge fridge stocked full of fresh herbs: Parsley, cilantro, mint, etc. If you live in the area or if you have a hankering for delicious and reasonably-priced Middle Eastern goodies, Gourmet Bazaar is worth a visit!
