Chicken Salad Sandwich on Baguette April 20, 2024
Joyce Y.

Stopped by the Potomac Grocer while in the area for an appointment today. Surprisingly of all the food spots in the area, this was one of the highest Yelp ratings. Looking at the reviews, I saw that the place offered take-home meals as well as a deli. Apparently people loved the chipotle chicken salad sandwich, so I decided that was going to be the thing to try. I wasn't super blown away, I found the chicken to be a bit dry and bland. But I will say man did they PACK that sandwich with chicken! I mean they did not skimp! I also saw one review that mentioned getting it on a baguette so I did, although personally I found the bread to be a bit hard. BTW the chipotle is SPICY! But I do have a low spice tolerance so take that with a grain of salt. They had another option for the chicken salad which was the tarragon, as well as lots of other deli sandwiches. I was curious to try the soup of the day, potato leek soup, but decided not to get it. They had a variety of packaged soups and salads along the refrigerator. It seemed like a pretty popular place on a Sunday afternoon, so while I didn't love the chicken salad sandwich personally, maybe they have some other yummy options.

Corn and crab chowder (does not come with bread on the side, must purchase separately)

New to potomac! Thank goodness there is a new place to eat around here! This place has definitely turned into my favorite place to eat in town, great for lunch. ALL the sandwiches are good with fresh soft bread. Fresh ingredients for the sandwiches and salads. The salad are delicious, fresh quality veggies, with homemade dressings. What I like is that the salads are unique and different from salads anywhere else. The Greek steak salad is a must try. They have different soups of the day and so far I've tried the chicken noodle and the corn crab chowder, both are delicious and not too salty.

Potomac Grocer is a lovely little grocery store located in the middle of Potomac. It is like an indoor farmer's market. Almost all of their items are locally grown or produced so what they have is very limited. They have: - Fresh, local produce, marinades, and milk from local dairy farms. - Ice cream/ gelato: They sell the best! Moorenkos and Talenti. Both are addictingly delicious! - Prepared ready-to-go food (Chicken dumplings, empanadas, pastas, salads, etc). They also make sandwiches and salads. Their tomato basil penne pasta with spinach is delicious! - Fresh meats and seafood section- great selection for grilling! They also sell frozen lobster tails for $20. - Baked goods: They sell some baked goods by Carla Hall. Try their Red Velvet Whoopie Pie! It's really good. The magic bar makes an awesome treat too! - Their dry goods shelf has Fisher's Popcorn and also gourmet dried pasta, dips, and sauces. It's on the pricey side of things, but everything is fresh and great quality. Every time I've been here, the employees seem very friendly. I like stopping by to grab a few items when I'm on my way to or from Great Falls. Definitely check this place out if you are in the area!

I really like this place. The only reason it isn't 5 stars is because of the high pricing. But the fish, meat & MTO stuff is really good

Sandwiches were amazing. Staff was helpful. My son and I located it while in the area looking for something locally owned.

Their crab cakes, Asian slaw and flourless chocolate cake all were great - the chocolate cake was a model for its kind to aspire to.

I have been frequenting this establishment since I was a child (I'm now almost 40). I started going…read morethere in the mornings with my dad; he would get a cappuccino and a croissant, and I would get a hot chocolate and a muffin. Ralph and his son Jon owned the joint back in the day. Unfortunately when Ralph passed away, Jon feared the level of commitment to keep the shop up; he already had a life of his own and a family. So, he sold "The Market" to a different family. My dad passed away and, between that and the original ownership being gone, I went on a hiatus from there; it was almost four years - cold turkey with no amazing food - before I went back. Well, my first experience with the new ownership was so lovely! The menu had not changed at all; they still had all of the amazing, custom deli sandwiches printed on the menu. They still had the same decor littered throughout the establishment. There was still a vast wine and beer selection to the right, and they still served that really creamy, flavorful soft serve during the Spring and Summer months. What made me the happiest was that, despite the ownership being completely different, they honored the integrity of the original business owned by Ralph, because they knew that's why the place was packed on the daily. Well, after having frequented this amazing place for nearly three decades, I've now created a lasting memory between me and my son. He absolutely loves "The Market", and it is such a special place for me to pass down a morning tradition that I used to have with my dad. Thanks to everyone who works at "The Market on the Boulevard"; the Cabin John Club is the best sandwich I've ever had in my life and, because you have had the torch passed to you, the daily packed deli and cafe has continued to remain so. If you haven't visited this local gem, I highly recommend it. My only suggestion is this: try and go during a "non-peak" time. The parking in the little outdoor mall that houses "The Market" is extremely limited and, during lunch and dinner, parking is a luxury. However, even if you have to wait to park, the sandwiches and soft serve alone will make it all worth while.

Only get the sandwich or Korean food! All the other items are unmarked and they make up an…read moreoutrageous price at the register!

This review is for a take out order in March of 2026…read more All of the food was very good! The wagyu burger was very flavorful. However, the proper burger with a runny egg and bacon was a top 3 DMV burger. The ribs hit the spot and the sauce is a nice all around sweet bbq sauce. The honey Sriracha wings were also great. More honey and less heat from the Sriracha than I was expecting. The truffle Mac was very good. I see why it's priced at 14$. At first I was like that's craziness but after having it. It's worth the price. Very good meal for the family for around $120.

A three star rating isn't bad, it's average, and that's what I thought of this place. French onion soup had potential, the cheesy toast with it was good, but then the cheese in the soup was melted to the bottom of the toast & not broiled like you'd expect. The truffle Mac & cheese was great! My burger also had potential, but was slightly undercooked for my taste. Taken with liberty was ok, but was just missing something, maybe a side of au jus or crisp lettuce instead of arugula. Fries were hot & fresh, nice and crispy. Also got a CUBANO "TORTA" MILANES to-go because they were out of brisket, but that was just eh.

A bit dark, but modern with decent music playing not-too-loud. Went to the counter and there was a nice variety of bagels available. I ordered an onion bagel with veggie cream cheese and a large coffee (my usual when I'm comparing a new place to my usual joints). The server took my order and gave me a number. I got my coffee from a coffee bar offering Light/Medium/Dark Roast, Jamaica Me Crazy, Kona Macadamia, and Decaf. There's also sodas, iced coffee and tea. My food arrived pretty quickly and was served open-faced. I was really impressed by the size of the bagel and the amount of cream cheese. And the cream cheese looked like it was packed with veggies and flavor. The bottom line? Delicious bagel. Bigger isn't always better, but the bagel has a nice crunch on the outside and is not too doughy on the inside. (They say they use "ultra-purified New York water - not sure if that's really a "thing" that contributes to the flavor/texture, but obviously it didn't hurt.). The cream cheese was creamy and very delicious with bits of carrot, scallion and garlic flavor. I make my own veggie cream cheese - this is one of the better I've had at bagel shops. It's not crowded here at this time and it's a pleasant place to hang. I don't know what it's like when it gets crowded. The coffee (I got the medium roast) is very good. I got a large, which was dumb for eating in since free refills. Dummy. Ha ha. The workers appear conscientious and seem to get along well. There's comfortable seating inside and some outdoor seating. The price point for the bagel and cream cheese - under $5 - is good. I like this place. If I lived closer, I'd be a regular.
