A nice little local market and deli. We stopped in for lunch and grabbed the Italian on a baguette and the Ham & Swiss panini -- both were great, fresh and flavorful, exactly what you want when you just need a quick, easy meal. Portions were good. We each ate half and saved the other half for later. The store itself has a lot going for it too -- good produce, prepared foods, and a deli counter with plenty to choose from. Nice to have a neighborhood spot where you can grab quality ingredients or something quick and ready to eat. Glad we got to stop by and check it out. It's the kind of local spot you want to support, and we'll definitely be back to try more off the menu. read more

This is a cute, little grocery store with a deli, fresh meat & seafood, prepared food, wine etc. It can be a little pricey (but everything seems that way today, $10 for a small plain Caesar salad. But I got the Caprese sandwich ($14) on a baguette (toasted) and it's so good! I came back the next day for the same sandwich. Everyone is very polite and helpful as well. read more

Stopped by the Potomac Grocer while in the area for an appointment today. Surprisingly of all the food spots in the area, this was one of the highest Yelp ratings. Looking at the reviews, I saw that the place offered take-home meals as well as a deli. Apparently people loved the chipotle chicken salad sandwich, so I decided that was going to be the thing to try. I wasn't super blown away, I found the chicken to be a bit dry and bland. But I will say man did they PACK that sandwich with chicken! I mean they did not skimp! I also saw one review that mentioned getting it on a baguette so I did, although personally I found the bread to be a bit hard. BTW the chipotle is SPICY! But I do have a low spice tolerance so take that with a grain of salt. They had another option for the chicken salad which was the tarragon, as well as lots of other deli sandwiches. I was curious to try the soup of the day, potato leek soup, but decided not to get it. They had a variety of packaged soups and salads along the refrigerator. It seemed like a pretty popular place on a Sunday afternoon, so while I didn't love the chicken salad sandwich personally, maybe they have some other yummy options. read more

Yesterday I bought 2 pieces of the Dijon tarragon salmon which cost $35. When I arrived home to warm up the salmon, it was dry and tasted old. I hadn't been to Potomac grocer for a long time because of similar experiences. But I thought I'd try again. Won't be going back. The salmon was unedible but the $12 mashed potatoes were fine. I'm unsure why this place just can't get it together. read more

This place isn't cheap, but the food is really good. Great option for prepared food to go. I love the turkey sandwich on a baguette. The made-to-order salads are tasty. My husband likes the Al Fresco one; it's spicy. My toddler enjoys their cocktail meatballs, guacamole, and mashed potatoes. We haven't tried much of their desserts yet -- I do like David's triple chocolate chip cookies. We always get one when we stop by. read more

For the amount I paid for these shrimp I'm absolutely disgusted. They're the DRYEST shrimp on planet Earth. I've never seen such nice jumbo shrimp be cooked to leather like this. I'm pretty sure they took the cocktail shrimp (which are obviously cooked) and grilled them (double cooked) because the guy reassured me that they were just cooked today when I asked if there were any fresher ones because I was skeptical. The char isn't even proper. It turns sandy in your mouth like you're chewing charcoal ash. I tried to be optimistic and drown them in cocktail sauce, but they still taste like gritty cardboard covered in sauce. I wish I could return them but I drove 40 minutes so it's not worth it. This was our go to picnic place and seafood dinner place but the whole family agrees, when you charge top dollar, you can't lie to the customer. New to potomac! Thank goodness there is a new place to eat around here! This place has definitely turned into my favorite place to eat in town, great for lunch. ALL the sandwiches are good with fresh soft bread. Fresh ingredients for the sandwiches and salads. The salad are delicious, fresh quality veggies, with homemade dressings. What I like is that the salads are unique and different from salads anywhere else. The Greek steak salad is a must try. They have different soups of the day and so far I've tried the chicken noodle and the corn crab chowder, both are delicious and not too salty. read more

This was a pleasant pit stop on the way to the Glenstone Museum. My son and I were satisfied after splitting a sub and chips. Potomac Grocer is a lovely little grocery store located in the middle of Potomac. It is like an indoor farmer's market. Almost all of their items are locally grown or produced so what they have is very limited. They have: - Fresh, local produce, marinades, and milk from local dairy farms. - Ice cream/ gelato: They sell the best! Moorenkos and Talenti. Both are addictingly delicious! - Prepared ready-to-go food (Chicken dumplings, empanadas, pastas, salads, etc). They also make sandwiches and salads. Their tomato basil penne pasta with spinach is delicious! - Fresh meats and seafood section- great selection for grilling! They also sell frozen lobster tails for $20. - Baked goods: They sell some baked goods by Carla Hall. Try their Red Velvet Whoopie Pie! It's really good. The magic bar makes an awesome treat too! - Their dry goods shelf has Fisher's Popcorn and also gourmet dried pasta, dips, and sauces. It's on the pricey side of things, but everything is fresh and great quality. Every time I've been here, the employees seem very friendly. Really great place for tasty treats. Have discovered this place (finally) after coming to MD since the mid 90's. They have a nice selection of beer and wine some of it chilled. Fresh meats and fish look really great as well. Prepared foods include things like chicken and citrus salmon as well as sides like soba noodles. They will make you a sandwich or pizza and have some unusual items like a jar of peaches in vanilla syrup. We've sampled all of this during the lockdown and it is all very solid. They manage well with safety protocol - masks and all - and stay friendly throughout. Check it out! read more

Hubby & I went in for some small loin lamb chops, but when the person behind the counter didn't even know what that was ( reason for 4 stars rather than 5), we walked out with 2 crab cakes, corn salad, and a chopped salad.....all absolutely delish! I was impressed that the salad dressing came on the side. Only problem is that staff could have been more knowledgeable and went to help someone else without answering our questions. read more

I swung by to grab lunch from Potomac Grocer, not quite knowing what they offered, but extremely happy with what I found. The market itself is small, but filled with high quality food. They offer counter with very fresh looking meats and seafood, freshly made sandwiches, some grocery products, and a large case in the middle of the market filled with prepared foods to-go and desserts (cakes, cookies, etc.) I ordered two avocado eggrolls and a small size of the smoked bacon and corn salad. Loved every bite of each dish. I'll definitely be back often for lunch and other goodies. Update: came in and got the Chipotle chicken salad sandwich for lunch and it was A++. Fun little grocery with a family feel that has an interesting selection of premade and made to order choices. I've had their pizza, salad, and a sandwich and all were great. I have visited virtually every fish monger in the DMV and Baltimore and Annapolis, going as far as Springfield in VA. We eat fish 5-6 times a week for dinner. While I will from time to time find an individual fish species that is very fresh at one of the other fishmongers - universally none of them compare to Potomac Grocer. Max the Fishmonger will have approximately 8-10 types of fish available. ALL of it is extremely fresh, the freshest available in the area. He will not accept anything but the best from his suppliers and routinely declines the fish that is presented to him. I will give a nod to the Lobster Maine-ia for their lobster as my go to place, but while they do have some very fresh fish from time to time, it does not compare to Potomac Grocer. If you love fish, and want the freshest fish in the entire area day in and day out - go to Potomac Grocer. read more

This is not your typical grocery story, it's a very small grocery store and only offers a small selection of foods. I have shopped here a few times now, and it's mainly for the yummy cookies and chicken salad. The Chipotle chicken salad is by far my favorite chicken salad, Also the fresh baked peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies are amazing. Some of the staff are friendly, some could work on customer service. I drove all the way from Fairfax, VA over the weekend. This is the best small, upscale grocery in the universe. I have been going there for 5 years . I just devoured a pint of their vegan mushroom soup. It is epic! Why do I love this store so much? First, the staff remains wonderful even in the COVID age. Second, their seafood is simply the best. Not surprising since the owner was a fish wholesaler, and Max, the head fish guy has been the best in the business forever. If Oprah ever tried their crab cakes, she would get them here rather than G&M restaurant near BWI. Prices are fair considering the quality and their potomac village location. read more
